If only the service had not been terrible, it would have made for a decent evening. I came here with my girlfriend at around 7 on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly, but that was the only thing quick about our dinner at Thai Smile. It took about 10 minutes before the server took our drink order and another 10 to receive them. Our appetizer took another 25 minutes. It became clear that there was some sort of problem holding up everyone's food because nearly every table in the house was complaining. Several tables got up and left without receiving food or drink, even though they had been seated before we arrived. While we sat waiting for our food, I saw a line of at least twelve people accumulate at the door. None were seated because the employees would not bus the empty tables. However, the employees were very eager to collect the tips from their tables. They were much less excited about actually taking care of their patrons... After waiting for over an hour, our entrees were ready. I will admit that the food we received was delicious, but it did not make up for the terrible service and wait time. read more

Tasty! The red curry tofu was delicious, and a comfortable level of spicy at three stars (1-3 they call "American" spicy and 4-6 is "Native Thai" spicy). I agree with other reviewers about the service -- they could use more wait staff. We weren't in any hurry so it wasn't a problem, and when the Singha arrived at the very end of the meal, they apologized for the delay and didn't charge for it. I really do love this place, mainly because of the service and convenience. People there are friendly and the atmosphere is one which makes you feel nice and welcome to the room. However, food wise is about average for the prices during dinner time. Lunch time is different, the prices at lunch time matches the quality in taste. Nevertheless, this is my go to Thai place if I crave Thai food while in downtown. I have tried the noodle dishes and they were okay, a bit lacking in flavor, but still okay. The curry is my preference, particularly the pineapple curry with jasmine rice. Things seem consistent here, which for many restaurants in downtown, is quite convenient. All in all, I won't say do not go here but more of, go here during lunch but be prepared for sudden price surges during dinner. read more

This was unquestionably the worst service we have ever had at any restaurant. These positive reviews are astoundingly questionable. There were a total of four tables being served throughout our entire hour spent at Thai Smile. Of the five people eating at our table, 3 dishes came out cold and one dish (which was a duplicate order) was prepared as a completely different dish. The server took 15 full minutes to return our reheated dishes and never came back to the table! We literally had to stand at the kitchen door to request service, which again, our request fell on def ears. Our glasses were never refilled and sat as empty as our hopes for a decent meal, let alone a semblance of service. The table behind us stopped the only other server(because the server we both had never came back) to request to-go boxes. She literally went into the kitchen, grabbed her coat and walked out the door without so much as a word. We only wish we had followed directly behind her and perhaps we could have turned an otherwise terrible experience into a tolerable one at another restaurant. read more

The food is delicious (when your order is correct), but the service is pretty bad. A colleague and I went for lunch today and were seated, then waited about 5 minutes for a confused server to take our drink order. As soon as he left, another server came by and asked for our drink order and if we were ready to order (even though we had just got menus). I ordered the Pad Woon Sen with shrimp, and my friend order the same with chicken. Over 30 minutes later, our server brought out his food, then over 5 minutes later brought mine. I was two bites into my entree, when I found several pieces of chicken mixed in with the shrimp and noodles. Health issues limit me to seafood, so I got another server's attention, who suggested that maybe I had ordered it with shrimp and chicken (seriously?). She got our server, who blamed the mistake on the kitchen, and asked if I wanted them to make me another one. I informed her that we had already been there for almost an hour, and I didn't have time to wait for their slow kitchen, as we had to get back to work. She took the entree off of my check, and offered a half-hearted "Sorry", and said nothing else. I managed restaurants for several years in my younger days, and would have never let a customer leave after a bad experience without doing whatever I could to make things right. I'll keep an eye on this page to see if their service improves, but as it stands, I won't be dining here again. read more

After a long day of moving to my new home in Chattanooga, my mouth watered at the thought of piquant green curry and succulent fresh rolls. Hallf way through my green curry I discovered a rather large larva-like bug with a mysterious dangling appendage. The food is great! I have loved every vegetarian dish I have tried so far. Lately their service has been kind of slow. I am not sure but for about 3 times in a row, we were sitting there mostly for over 25-30 minutes before we were helped with our order. Very recently our team from work went there for holiday lunch and it was over an hour after we ordered that our food arrived and that too one order every 5 minutes. I would probably understand if they were short staffed during the holidays but delay in service has been happening quiet some time now. I would give full points for the food though! read more

Thai Smile is still my favorite Thai place in the chattanooga area but I've been having some issues with them lately. It seems like they make up their business hours now. There have been times they are listed as open on yelp and google but they're closed when I get there. There are times when I try to call in a pickup order, I call 3 times over the span of 15 minutes and no answer only to drive by and see that it is open. Last but not least the past few times I've ordered I get my usual 4 spice level and it has been as spicy as a glass of milk. My wife and I got the Panang Curry and the Pad Thai both at spicy level 2. The range is pretty comical with 1-3 being for Americans and 4-6 for Native Thai. I like a little spicy and our server said that 1 was no spice so we went for the 2. I wasn't sure what to expect when I was one away for the maximum recommended for Americans, but one away from no spice. Next time I would get a 1.5 spice (if that is even an option), since it was a little too spicy for us. Each dish was $11 plus tax, but the portions were generous and the service was pretty good. read more

This was my second visit to Thai Smile in a month; after the first time, when the service was good but the food was merely adequate, I thought I'd give it another shot. Big mistake. The service was some of the worst I've ever encountered. We were promptly seated, but had to wait at least 15 minutes before a waitress came to take our order. Then we waited 50 minutes--that's right, nearly an hour--for two plates of fried rice, which was no better than the Pad Thai I'd ordered on my previous visit. There's a disclaimer on the bottom of the menu that says they will not re-make your order if it's too spicy. That is there for a very good reason. I've eaten here 3 times with co-workers, and each time the level of spice varies wildly. The first time I started at level 3, which is supposedly right in the middle of their heat range. My food arrived completely devoid of any spiciness, so the second time I tried a 4. This time, my food was barely edible as it was so incredibly spicy. The difference between the 3 & 4 would be more along the lines of the difference between a 1 and a 10 on any rating scale. Today, I was convinced to give it another shot, and I regret it. Ordered my food at the level 3 spice, and again, it was like licking the hood of a car that's been in the summer sun all day. I can't even feel my lips as I'm typing this. My face is tingling and my nose is running. I'm not a hot food aficionado by any means, but I'm not a spicy noob either. I enjoy some kick with my food, but this inconsistency is absurd. If you enjoy playing Food Russian Roulette, this is a great place to go. I recommend going with friends so at least some people will get to laugh at the poor schmuck whose face is melting from their insanely spicy food. But if the spiciness doesn't overwhelm you, the food here generally tastes good. read more

I have patronized this restaurant many times. Not because it is the best Thai restaurant, but because it's the only one near me. As Thai places go, the food is probably 3 stars. Today I ordered carry out over the phone, and I am told it will be ready in 10 or 15 minutes. I get there in 10 and pay, tipping 25%. I see they are pretty busy so I don't mind waiting a bit. I sit down and wait. 50 minutes after I made the call I go up to the counter again and ask if they've forgotten about me. The waitress walks to the back and immediately hands me the food which is cold and was clearly made when I called. A mistake I could have gotten over, but the waitress, without making eye contact, says "Chicken Rama? Okay bye." And then walks away. I did not have an hour to spend on picking up Thai food at lunchtime, and I regret ordering from this place. read more

The food was ok.. our first glass of Sprite was gross, the 2nd was OK. We were never asked if the food was OK or if we wanted refills of soda.. not once.. We ordered Spring Rolls and never received them. The Spring Rolls were still on the check, and I had to ask the cashier to take it off the bill. Terrible service.. there were no apologies. After a long day, I got takeout from Thai Smile before heading to my hotel room. When i got to my hotel, I found out they had given me chicken instead of tofu. based on their website, I ordered 5 orders of chicken satay skewers to pick up for a party. after I paid for them and received the order, I counted only 3 skewers per order. the manager said "sorry, our website hasn't been updated". she refused to refund my cash payment or ad 10 skewers to correct the situation. in my opinion, this is dishonest and poor management. read more

Thai food is one of my favorites and although I have had better Thai food at other restaurants, Thai Smile is good and it has been on the top of my list for casual restaurants in Chattanooga until very recently. I have been to Thai Smile or ordered take out at least a dozen times in the last year but had two really bad experiences in the last 30 days. About a month ago, we experienced really slow service and when we finally received our food, the Pad Thai which was supposed to have both chicken and shrimp had almost no chicken. I complained to our waiter who was pretty unwilling to do anything about it and in all fairness we did not want to wait any longer. I am willing to give anyone a second chance so I did not make a big deal about it. Then, last week, the service was even slower than the previous time. When we did get our food, this time the Pad Thai had almost no shrimp and it did not taste the same as it usually does. I complained about the service and the wait staff said the chef was really angry. I asked to speak to a manager but no one ever came out. I looked around and know that many people in the restaurant were upset about the service so it was not only me. Unfortunately, I will not be going back. read more

We have been coming to eat here for close to two years but it had been a couple of months since we came in last. Our last experience before this one was just OK the food had gone down hill the staff had gone down hill too. Apparently there has been another change of ownership and it's nowhere near the same food as what it was originally. I ordered the seafood talay which is a fairly simple dish that is supposed to be really good the shrimp is over cooked and probably freezer burn prior to being cooked the muscles taste like they are cooked much at all and the calamari is very rubbery more so than it should be. With this being a signature dish someone needs to kick the Cook in the taste buds. My wife ordered the crispy duck which should be called crispy fat. I know the duck is a fattier poultry but it was ridiculous how much was in the ditch not to mention the seasonings and sauces and were nowhere near what they used to be. We won't be coming back we will go to one of the other Thai restaurants in town that are much better not to mention less expensive and not have to pay for parking. read more
