The good: The food is fantastic. I've seldom had better in America. They use fresh ingredients, the flavors are big, and there's not a lot of oil. The egg rolls are some of the best I've ever had, anywhere. The counter service was patient and friendly. The restaurant is *very* clean. The negative: It's counter serve, and they clearly want you to take your food and get the hell out of there. The seating is spare, the decor is spartan, and there are ZERO amenities at the tables. There's no water unless you pay for it. Want chopsticks? Here are some *to go* chopsticks. Oh, you want soy sauce? Let me get some from behind the counter. Well, my favorite Chinese Restaurant just went to , I'll never eat from there again. As always, I ordered the Egg Drop soup, after a couple of bites I thought hmmm this isn't like it always is, so I thought maybe a tiny bit of salt would enhance it. It helped some. Shortly after finishing our meal, I began to belch what i perceived as, rotten eggs. This lasted all into the night. So I was wondering if the soup was a day old or something? Then about an hour after we went to bed, I ran to the bathroom with the worst tummy ache & spent an hour & 10 minutes in there, thinking I was dying. Yep I was going at it with V & D ... I hate to gross anyone out, but that had to have been food poisoning. Today I caught up on my sleep & feeling better. Delivery by Uber was very slow to pick up. Sat on the counter for 45 minutes before the car moved and yet China House didn't do anything to keep it warm. Request me to contact Uber eats for a refund. Shrimp were rubbery, portions were small, rice was dry. Food would have been mediocre if it was warm. Do not waste your money. read more

I am so disappointed to see that China House has gone so far downhill. The wonton soup is a totally different recipe. The wontons are super gummy, pork filling dense and flavorless whereas it used to be fantastically flavorful. The rice was so dry, the kung pao beef was totally dry, almost no veggies, no sauce to speak of at all. Just a total disappointment and I'm sad that I wasted my money and meal here expecting it to be as great as it once was. I used to live right across the street from China house and would eat here weekly. I no longer would even recommend it for the occasional visit. Very sad. read more

I honestly would have never found this place if it wasn't recommended to me by a friend. But I'm so glad she found it because it's amazing. I will say the customer service was absolutely terrible the first time we came. The waiter was watching something on his phone and was not giving us any attention. But aside from terrible service...the food is on point. We pretty much always get the sesame tofu and Thai basil fried rice. There's a lo mein dish we tried and that was really good too. Had heard from a friend that this was the spot but I was not impressed. Going on a Saturday afternoon I expected it to be busy but there was only one other table occupied. That should have been my red flag to leave but my hunger was more powerful. I ordered steam dumplings as an appetizer, then orange chicken for my daughter and Szechuan beef for myself. They come out suspiciously quick, minus the dumplings. My daughters chicken was okay but I have to say mine was bland, not a hint of spice. Overall just not impressed. read more

Mediocre.....at best. Hot and sour soup, egg rolls were typical. "Twice cooked pork" wasn't....not pieces of stirfried roasred pork, just regular corn starch dredged strips of pork with some cabbage and huge chunks of bell peppers... maybe 2-3 ounces of meat. Got a "add in" of bamboo shoots, what I got was these yellow semi circles of some flavorless mass.... I worked in kitchens for 40 years and have never seen them before.... Beef lo mein was over cooked chopped up noodles, about an inch in length with what appeared to be some leftover Hunan beef mixed in. Honestly, the steamed rice was probably the best thing about the meal. And they did have real mustard instead of the packets. Be forwarned, online prices are more than in store ordering. read more

I had to wait 10 minutes before someone came to my table to take my order. I was really upset, have never had to wait or wave someone to attend my table. I ordered Mongolian beef and man it was sweet like a dessert. I sent that back and after 5 minutes they send the same thing out again just put some chilly in it. The server did not even bother to come back and ask me if I was happy with it or not. One of the worst experiences I had here in Chattanooga would never step back again, they might have saved on the dish by serving me the same thing again but they lost a customer. Had dinner at China House with some friends last night. The food was absolutely disgusting - probably the worst Chinese and Thai food I've had in a very long time. The pad thai was so spicy that it was unedible. I thought I was in a bad Mexican restaurant based on the chili-based spices. Needless to say, I sent the pad thai back - fortunately it was taken off the bill. The breading on the general tsao's chicken was hard and tough to work through. The dish was also spiced improperly. Our friend's dishes weren't much better ..... a discombobulation of spices and poor breading. We will never go back to this restaurant - neither should you. read more

I've had my fair share of take-out from Chinese restaurants and I usually expect mediocre quality with occasional suprising excellence. This place was completely terrible. We ordered: 1) Red curry beef. The sauce was nothing like red curry sauce. Just some glaze that tasted like beef stew. 2) Basil chicken with only bamboo and extra sauce. I received chicken with every vegetable under the sun and no extra sauce. 3) Fried cheesy wontons. They were crunchy on the outside, super doughy and chewy on the inside, and had no cheese in them. 4) Spicy Szechuan fried dumplings. These were horrible. Not fried, just chewy balls of dough with no filling. They were drenched in a sauce that tasted like nothing but peanut butter. Don't waste your money. At least eat at a mediocre Chinese restaurant. read more

I have been a customer at this restaurant for a long time, after tonight's experience me and my husband will not be back. We ordered orange chicken and shrimp with lobster sauce. When it came out it looked like soup and the peas and carrots were frozen. When I asked about item this young kid was not helpful in any way. We told him we didn't like it and just walked off. As we were leaving the restaurant one of the children made a barfing sound. We will not be back. Poor service..sorry it's under new management. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little girl before it was ran by new management. It was way better before. Took me awhile to like the food here again but they have improved the food tremendously since. Chicken and broccoli and general chicken are my favorites. Egg drop soup needs to be improved.
