Take off your sunglasses. This restaurant is DARK, bordering on depressing. The entire decor would definitely benefit from a brighter light source. We were there at lunchtime on a Monday, which is typically a slower day for restaurants, but we were only one of two tables yet there was no real enthusiasm by the wait staff, two women with seemingly no mission. My daughter and I pressed on, however, having a craving for Thai cuisine. I had been here many years ago and found the food to be good but the service to be subpar. I've traveled throughout Asia extensively over the years so I find this complacency at this particular restaurant and anomaly. The food, however, was excellent. We ordered the duck with in a curry sauce, explaining my allergies to alliums. The meal was well presented, well seasoned, and allium free. So they earned back a star for that. My daughter ordered glass noodles with chicken and vegetables, which also was presented very well and extremely tasty. She was very pleased. We stuck with water, but I would've enjoyed being offered a pot of tea, even at a price. We were there for about an hour and saw two or three takeout orders, and one other table will be seated. Very slow indeed. There was a lot of downtime for the weight staff, but they didn't seem to feel it important to check in on us. That's a shame. So here's where we stand: five stars for the food and the value. Three stars for the atmosphere. And unfortunate two stars for Service. Finally tried here fully, rather than ordering a few app to go. Staff was pretty friendly and pretty quick take your order and appreciate they refilled my water without me asking. As with most Thai restaurants I been too, very clean and beautiful decorative inside. For the food, the beef satay was delicious, the meat was tender and juicy, the veggies were crisp and fresh, only knock would be the peanut sauce should been more smooth and not so thick, since it came off as being made hours ago. For the kang karee curry, wish it way more spicy since it was mild at best, but I will give credit they crisped up the potatoes before bathing them in the curry so they were not mushy, shrimp was pretty plump and soaked alot of the flavor, as for onions and scallions did not taste them since the curry buried them. For combination fried rice, it was pretty good, plump shrimp like curry, with tender and juicy chicken, bits of imitation crab in large cuts. The vegetables were bit mushy in the rice and not all that great and did not get why there tomato slices in the rice. My friends and I stopped here the other day for a late lunch and I have given this review a three start because of the experience of my friend's meals. My meal was delicious: I ordered the fried wontons and the vegetable noodle soup. The portions were VERY generous and I wound up taking most of the soup home. My friends however did not have quite the same experience. The spare ribs did not have flavor or good color and they came on a plate of tiny ribs, one inch wide with perhaps one bite of meat. Initially I had a rib 'order to go' for my husband and just looking at my friend's order, I cancelled it and ordered something else. The biggest turn off for my friend was that his entree came in a porcelain bowl that had not one, not two but THREE chips. Thai Spice needs to do better than this if they are to stay in business. I've ordered take out from here for a few years and I never review places generally, even when bad, because I know stuff is hard out there for folks and we're all doing our best, but today was insanely bad. I decided to treat myself and eat in. I was the only person in there, and the two servers were staring at their phones, barely acknowledging me, and then I realized, halfway through waiting, they were sniffling and wiping their noses like every fifteen seconds, loud, snorts -- AND THEN ONE WIPED HER NOSE AND TOUCHED MY PLATE TO BRING IT TO MY TABLE. I watched her do it. She smeared her hand under her nose and then turned around and brought me my plate. was so nauseated, I bolted, out the door, leaving cash on the table, because I was literally gagging and didn't want to get into it. I probably shouldn't have paid, but I dunno, the food was there. i just couldn't eat it. It took about twenty five minutes to get my lunch. I was served a strange soup before that, with barely cooked veggies in it, and they had on CNN with the news on blast in front of me. Unsanitary and beyond gross. I hope I don't get sick. I was really excited to try this spot. I decided this would be the day I try the green curry, after putting it off for so long. I've heard great things about Thai green curry and decided I would take the leap and give it a try. I was very excited. I ordered summer rolls as an appetizer. They were pretty standard. The flavor profile was the norm. The dipping sauce was just delicious. The shrimp was sliced super thing though. I definitely wish there were bigger pieces of shrimp. I've had other summer rolls with more shrimp in them and definitely enjoyed that. Now for the green curry. I selected medium heat but definitely could have taken it up a few notches and gotten it spicy. I love spicy food but didn't know just what to expect. I have to admit that I was disappointed in the green curry. I expected something very different. It was super watery. I expected something a bit more thick or creamy. The flavors also didn't taste very intense at all. Everything just tasted watered down. This was my first time trying it so I'm not sure if this is normal? I definitely wasn't impressed. The sauce accompanying the fried tofu was flavorful. Green curry was spicier than I expected, but was tasty! The pad thai was a little dry and had a weird aftertaste. I highly recommend this place when you are in the area especially if you are going to the walkway over the Hudson. Which is how we encountered this place. They are amazing with services. Our waiter was super nice and of course willing to explain everything we asked. We ordered the pad Thai vegetable spring rolls and the red curry mussels. Pad Thai was HUGE I'm telling you two appetizers and one entree filled both me and my boyfriend. We shared everything and left extremely satisfied! The red curry mussels are a must! We ordered thru Grubhub and our order came quick but it was wrong! We ordered Basil Fried Rice and there was no fried rice not sure what we got. When i called the restaurant they accused the driver of tampering with the food (which honestly is ridiculous) and then told me to call Grub Hub. The food was cold and not edible. The serving of pad thai I received here could well serve about 3 people. The food came out beautifully plated with nice decorations to make it look good. You can also control the spice levels on most of the foods on the menu so it was nice to have that option!! Ordered delivery last night and got violently ill within a half hour of eating the food I ordered. Before delivering, they called to say they were out of an ingredient in my meal but were refusing to swap it out with something else or accommodate much at all until we pushed back a bit. We were polite but the person kept interrupting us and was angry when we asked to sub the ingredient and when we inquired for why she out right refused to hear us out....The person on the phone was so rude and seemed mad so it's suspect that the very dish we were in a disagreement on gave me food poisoning. Noodles were ok, a bit dry but flavorful. Dumplings were the best part of the meal, and I would definitely get them again. We figured if they eat there then it must be good. And it really was! We had the pad eggplant in a chili basil sauce w/jasmine rice and the shrimp pad Thai, medium spice level. I love pad Thai in general and found their's to be a good one but the pad eggplant really had me sold. I also love when asian restaurants set down a bowl of jasmine rice with your meal. The aroma really is a beautiful thing. I happily ate away at the eggplant, tofu and the other veg that was stir fried with it (mushroom, carrots, onions). Our server was nice and prompt. It is really just fast food. Using green curry chicken as an example, the meat has no flavor, the green pepper is almost raw. What happens typically is that the chicken meat was precooked & the ingredients were cooked together just for a few minutes. We started with the curry puffs which turned out to be an excellent decision, as well as a spicy lime pork salad that was not quite as wonderful a choice. If you're on the fence, go with the former. In terms of main courses, the pad kee mao equivalent (they call it something else on the menu, but it's the wide, flat noodles in the spicy basil sauce) is good, and the pineapple fried rice is better.
