Hands down the best restaurant for any Asian food in Rhode Island. I was surprised to see so much variety on the menu. For appetizers, the crab rangoons are a must try. They were crispy and filled with delicious cream cheese. Another great appetizer is the chicken wings, which were juicy and flavorful. As for the spring rolls, these were nice and light. The vegetables tasted fresh and I loved the sauce that came along with it. My favorite dish here is the pad thai. The noodles were sweet and savory. There were lots of bean sprouts and meat. The pad see uiw is a close second. For both noodle dishes, you can choose your choice of meat. The house special fried rice comes with shrimp and is also delicious. Everything came in a generous portion. If you want something to drink, I recommend the thai tea. Their thai teas are made from scratch and are not artificial. You can clearly taste the tea flavor without there being too much sugar. Service was excellent. The place looks like a small mom n pop shop. My family and I moved into the neighborhood recently to find this local gem close by. The owners are lovely people and so kind. Our first time ordering I inquired about the dumplings as I have a picky eater in my house. I wasn't sure if he would approve so I didn't order, but the owner threw an order in anyway for us to try. My son was over the moon and they've been a staple in our order ever since. Now onto the food... The chicken satay is always juicy, fresh, and well cut. The peanut sauce is equally as delicious and flavorful. My husband and I love the panang curry! It's consistently full of fresh cooked vegetables and chicken is well portioned. The curry is seasoned well and honestly one of the best I've had the pleasure to try. The restaurant itself is clean with ample parking outside. Inside is also quite clean, organized and an easy pick up process. There's a young lady working there now who is new but she fits in well with the wonderful owners. This place is the real deal. Very good food! As soon as you walk in the door, you see it's small but comfortable, very clean and well decorated. The service is prompt and nice. I had the tom yum soup, vegetable salad with peanut sauce, spring (aka fresh) rolls, and vegetable stir fry. It was excellent. No complaints whatsoever. The salad contents were fresh, crisp, colorful and tasty. I will be back again and again. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

I was extremely disappointed, given the amount of positive reviews that I found on Yelp and Google. However beyond my foodbeing prepared quickly, and not being too expensive, everything else was a disaster. My food was burnt and I found three different items in my food that did not belong there. Came here from out of state to get some lunch before hitting the road. The food was super delicious and the portions were great for the price. The waitstaff was helpful for suggestions on what to eat based on what our table liked, and the place was open and bright. I was very surprised how authentic this place is for Thai Food! I'm going to break this review down to sections. Location and parking: the restaurant is located at a little plaza with plenty of parking. Very convenient with no time wasted to park. Atmosphere: quiet, and standard restaurant decoration, average for atmosphere. But overall the restaurant is clean. Food: this is the best part. Their Tom Yum Soup is very authentic, not like most places I have been, I don't understand why some thai restaurant put so much tomato into the Tom yum soup and make it very sweet almost like a tomato soup, Thai star doesn't do that, good amount of seasoning and spices. The Fish Cake and chicken wings Appetizers are must tries! Very authentic and taste like the ones I have eaten in Thailand. Remember to ask for the spicy homemade hot sauce if you like Spicy! It is very spicy! I love the yellow curry at the restaurant, authentic, brings a bit of sweetness and let you pick out the spicy level you wanted. Great place for takeout. I stumbled upon this place when looking for some takeout one night while my husband was out. Since he doesn't care for Thai food, I thought this was a great opportunity. I searched for local places and this one popped up. I placed my order online and headed over. The restaurant is very quaint, and the woman at the counter super friendly. The food came out hot and was still piping hot when I got home. The order was tasty and seemed to have fresh ingredients. Certainly tasted healthier than any Chinese food your can get. (What I was really looking for was Gui Chai...a chive dumpling often mistakenly called scallion pancake) Tom Yum soup was weak--2 tiny shrimp Here is the big disappointment; Pad kee mao--also known as "drunken noodle". They served it with thin, spaghetti noodles! When I brought this to their attention--that this dish ALWAYS has wide noodles, they replied "We always make it this way." (Equivalent to ordering pappardelle in an Italian restaurant and getting angel hair!!!) Mmmmm. In addition--it was bland, sweet. DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

What I ordered and my rating for each item: -Pork gyoza: 3/10. They seemed to be premade frozen gyoza. The outside wasn't good and the edges were very hard. The dipping sauce for it was good (8/10). -Crispy fried tofu: 10/10. Perfectly fried. Peanut sauce was delicious (10/10). -Chicken pad thai: 6.5/10. I was disappointed with the pad thai. The noodles didn't have enough sauce so they were too dry and lacked flavor. Although the chicken was delicious and seasoned well (10/10). -Mango and sticky rice: 8/10. The only reason it wasn't a 10/10 is because there was no coconut cream sauce on the top of the dish. So it lacked a little sweetness. The sticky rice and mango individually were 10/10. -Side of peanut sauce: 10/10. A good sized side of sauce and tastes delicious. -Side of steamed jasmine rice: 10/10, but it is just white rice so kinda hard to not be 10/10. The total: $41.69. Which is super reasonable for the amount of food I got especially because they have generously sized portions. Service: 10/10. I ordered takeout and I was greeted instantly upon my arrival to the restaurant. The lady who checked me out was friendly. The restaurant was on the smaller side so better for smaller parties. First time ordering here. The food was made fast, delivery was on time but almost everything tasted like it was cooked in nothing but fish oil. Unfortunately it was so strong we couldn't eat two of the entrees. I hadn't experienced such strong fish flavor in a meal before. Legit Thai food! Everything was delicious and authentic. We ordered the duck choo chee (not all places sell this), was happy they had it. The sauce is legit flavorful with coconut hints, curry and mild spice. The drunken noodle was flavorful and good spice kick. The pad Thai was your delicious pad thai. My second time back today. I don't live in the area. I had the tamarind fish with rice. It was so fresh, hot, and crispy. Boy, did it hit the spot! Loved that I was aiming for a close by Asian restaurant and this one didn't let me down - both being Asian, we're picky about Asian food. We chose to dine in as we wanted to sit down at the place. Family run that stems off the restaurant on Chalkstone - haven't been there personally as of this review, but I've heard good things about there too. Our waitress, Nina, was very personable. She's an outgoing individual helping her parents in her free time. FYI, it's BYOB. Beverage: Thai Iced Tea, must try for any place offering it. It was well mixed with a subtle sweetness - definitely so great that my friend order one after trying mine. A passing grade for me as I'm picky about it trying it at so many places. Apps: Shrimp Rangoon, Steamed Mussels, Gao Lao soup - all fantastic. Well-cooked shrimp was a welcomed addition to the basic crab rangoon. The steamed mussel was served with in a flavorful broth that kept me sipping it with the mussels. The Gao Lao soup is a beef broth that was brimming in flavor with a nice spicy kick with your choice of meat - probably going to ask for it as a noodle soup next time. Entrée: Pad See Ew with flat noodles and Tamarind Fish, medium heat - the PSE was a great mix of sweet and spicy and the TF had a great crunch even under the tangy and kicking sauce - definitely get medium for that perfect kick. First and foremost the server was very nice and helpful. I find Thai restaurants to be a bit pricey for the portions, and this was no exception. However the taste was undeniably delicious. The crab Rangoons ranked among the best. The filling was creamy, crab filled,and you can taste the scallions. The coconut soup was good but could have been hotter with more stocky. The coconut shrimp were nothing special. The dumpling soup was insanely tasty and I could have eaten the large with a side of rice for dinner. I ate the Chicken Himmapha and I was very pleased. If you want the best Thai food in Rhode Island come here! My favorite dish is the Tamarind fish, which I basically get every time I go. It's a huge piece of fresh Tilapia, with fresh basil in a nicely spiced sauce. Their noodles are delicious as well. I just tried their Pan Fried Noodles for the first time and was blown away by how complex in flavor such a simple looking noodle dish could be. The vegetables were all fresh and the brown gravy the adorns the noodle dish made me want to get another order. The family that owns both the Thai Star locations are actually Laotians and have some great dishes on the menu, like the sausage appetizer, which is other must try. I can't wait to go back and experience their amazing Asian hospitality and delicious food again!!!!! read more

Omg the mango curry was so delicious. It had that perfect kick of spice. It came with Jasmine rice. I had their house special fried rice. That had shrimp in it and that was so good too. We had authentic Thai tea. I love authentic Thai tea. It has that little bitter tea taste that I like in a Thai tea. We sipped it within a few sips. I am not one to post yelp reviews very often but for Thai Star I just had to! I came upon them on a yelp search looking for nearby places to grab some soup (boyfriend wasn't feeling ). I ordered the Chicken Noodle soup with egg noodles and an order of the chicken wings..we were not disappointed! Soup was delicious and wings were finger lickin'. The food was so good, we ate from here two more times that same week, also trying it the house fried rice, spring rolls, and crab Rangoon. The fried rice reminded me so much of my trip to Thailand. Didn't taste like typical fried rice take out, instead had corn, pineapple and such great flavor. The food is delicious to say the least. Thai Star might be my new favorite Thai spot. read more
