We stayed in the Berner Oberland in August 2025 and revisited Tham's restaurant in Murren several times! My wife spent her childhood in Malaysia and we first visited Tham's restaurant two decades ago before our son was born. We brought our teenage son this time and were excited to discover that Tham is still open in Murren and his food is just as delicious as before! His lovely wife is now working with him in the restaurant and both of them were very friendly and welcoming. We dropped by every chance we got even though we were staying across the valley in Wengen. Remember to bring cash only for payment. There is an ATM by the gondola/cable car station in Murren. The wok fried noodles with prawns were our favorite and our son's favorite was the fried rice with chicken and fried rice with honey pork. My wife also ordered the Assam Chili Chicken and enjoyed the yummy flavors. Excellent nourishment after our hikes! Delicious food, friendly owners and the best food to balance out our other Swiss food forays! We look forward to visiting gorgeous Switzerland again in the near future, especially the Berner Oberland - and we will definitely stop by Tham's in Murren the first chance we get! I don't know HOW this restaurant is rated 4.5 stars. Terrible service, terrible prices, terrible quality. Very poor service: old man running the restaurant was highly impatient and wife scammed us on price conversion -- tip: they only accept cash. The value is terrible. The equivalent of 60USD (50CHF) for a grease-soaked plastic container of fried rice (incredibly bland and tasteless) with a count of (5) small strips of chicken and a heart-attack-inducing greasy noodle dish, served with more salt than is in the Atlantic ocean. We tried to be hospitable and nice to the owner, but they responded with indifference, short temper, and annoyance. Insanely rude service, especially from the chef. Yeah, I understand, the prices in Switzerland are crazy expensive, but I wouldn't feed this food to my dog. Not worth $30 a dish. My tip? Don't go. Unless you want to be insulted and go to the least hospitable place in Murren. read more

This place only takes cash just to let you know. It is good, but not great. Especially when compared to other places that we have been to. We were able to try it and there is limited seating. We were able to sit outside, and the view is amazing. Don't get me wrong, still a pretty cool place. However, the places we have ate it just were top notch. The other reviews are pretty accurate. It tastes authentic, the egg role and egg drop soup is delicious. The service is good, and everything comes out in a timely manner. However, the pad thai lacked some flavor and maybe I should've asked for it to be spicier. We had the fried rice, and again the seasoning lacked on it. I mean it was good, but it didn't taste as fresh as some of the other places we went to. Good not great, and probably the best choice for asian in this small town. read more

Authentic made to order Chinese food. You even get to experience the husband and wife yelling back and forth at each other. Small dining room but plenty of room for what we needed. There's certain evenings of the week that this is about the only food option in Murren. They have a few good beers in bottles as well. Definitely recommend! read more

It hasn't been a day in Switzerland yet and Mink already wanted Asian food again. Personally I wanted local Switzerland cuisine but what she wants is what she gets. Walking around Murren we found Tham Keong. Mink was sold on eating at Tham Keong so we took a look at their menu. After weighing out what to get, she decided to order Wok Fried Noodle with Prawns and I ordered Wok Fried Rice with Chicken. While waiting for our order to be made, I asked for hot sauce in Chinese. The owners, I believe they were the owners, asked if they should just make the fried rice spicy. It was an easy decision so they made it spicy for me. We got it to go and ate it in our hotel room. Mink tried both dishes and liked hers more. I personally liked the fried rice more. They were both better than we expected for Chinese food in Murren. Mink liked it so much that she went back again to get Singaporean Noodles for another meal. On top of Asian food at this restaurant, they also over beverages and snacks. It is super hard to find Asian food in the Swiss Alps, so I was not expecting much when we ate here. However, this turned out to be an amazing / authentic Chinese meal, and probably the best food we had in Switzerland! The pepper beef was flavorful and the fried rice was a good complement to the saltiness of the beef. This seems to be a family run restaurant and they were all very sweet. They sell ice cream too which was nice to have after the meal. One thing to note, it is cash only, although they accept euros and USD (not at a great exchange rate however). read more

The owner came around a few times to check on our table and shared a bit about his history. The restaurant is not much to look at but boy we were pleasantly surprised by the food. When we passed by they were closed but my 4-year old grandson persistently knocked on the door because he was hungry already. The lady owner opened the restaurant and let us in to eat. This is a nice Chinese restaurant in Murren that we discovered on our way to train station. This was a welcome break as we were tired of cold cuts sandwiches and cheese during our stay here. The vegetable noodles and szechuan chicken we ordered was pretty good. I am only giving 4 stars for the small portion size for the price they charged. The food and service was excellent. Any Chinese second generation kid knows their first generation parents wants to have Chinese food when on vacation even if the location makes absolutely no sense. (Think... I dunno, Yellowstone Park, Yosemite National Park...big thumbs down on the Chinese food there.) But, having read the reviews on TripAdvisor & Yelp for Tham Keong I decided to give it a try, especially given that most places were closed down it being the off season and the only places to eat were at the hotels which were more expensive and not necessarily that tasty.. The actual restaurant name outside is called "Tham Snacks and Drinks" or something like that which confused me when I first tried to find this place. (Note: Google Maps is wrong, just ignore it, keep on walking down the main road in Murren and you will find it, decorated with red Chinese lanterns.) I was most pleasantly surprised by the dishes. I'm not typically a fan of Singaporean style noodles here in San Diego, but as we talked to the owner (who is also the chef), he was saying that his best dishes were the Singaporean noodles and the rice. Well, interested by this exclamation, we went back the next day and ordered the Singaporean noodles. Most of the ones I have encountered have usually been too dry or tasteless, with not much going on. Usually has a curry flavor. Well, I didn't detect any curry flavor (though it was there), and it was a bit spicy which really was a nice kick. Honestly I think it was the best Singaporean noodles I've had anywhere. All their dishes were pretty good. When they say spicy, they _mean_ spicy, because I couldn't handle the spice. I guess Europeans can really handle their spice, something I learned from going here! (Which was their black pepper beef) They were incredibly nice - the husband and wife. I'm not sure what the other reviews meant by their coldness but I didn't find that to be true at all. It's a one man show restaurant here, and the speed of which they deliver the dishes was pretty fast considering. So, if you like Chinese food, do give this place a try if you're ever in Murren. read more

What an amazing find! The food was a breath of fresh air after a week of hearty German food. We got the Pad Thai and Sweet and Sour chicken and devoured it all. The couple who own the place are amazingly sweet and nice. Please be aware that they do not accept cards but do accept Euros, Francs and even USD. Although I was skeptical about the quality of Chinese food in Switzerland, I decided to try Tham Keong for a break from the rich Swiss food. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. It was simple yet delicious, exactly what I was looking for. I also got to try the black pepper beef, which was very spicy and flavorful. The service was also wonderful, as the owners are an extremely nice Chinese couple who have been living in Mürren for over a decade. They were very attentive and friendly, which added to my great experience. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in or around Mürren, especially if you're tired of cheesy Swiss food. One thing to note though - they don't take credit cards, so make sure you have some cash with you. They accept Swiss Francs, Euros, and US dollars. read more

After eating cheese fondues and wienershnitzels for a few days in a row, I was craving something different. On Yelp and Tripadvisor, I had read about Tham. Coincidentally, we were staying at Hotel Edelweiss just a couple of doors away so on our last night, we decided to give this place a try. I wished that we had tried it sooner because I would have gone back. The food was fresh so you tasted each ingredient and the spicing. It does run spicy relative to what the Chinese food we get in LA but so tasty. We ordered the Singapore Noodles and the black pepper beef. Both were delicious! I did not think that the portion size was small - unless you're comparing it to the mondo Texan dishes we get. Chinese or any type of ethnic cuisine in Switzerland is going to be expensive as ingredients are not as easy to source so don't expect Panda Express prices. Chef and his wife were both super engaged and friendly to us. May decide to go back to Murren over the other Alpine cities with this restaurant being a factor! read more

This place is small and not very fancy so you may be tempted to walk right by it. That would be a mistake. The food here is fantastic and the owners are very friendly. We arrived in Murren around 9pm on a rainy Saturday night, on the last cable car & train. We knew it was a relatively quiet town, but we were still shocked to discover the total lack of dinner options available to us at (what we considered to be) such a relatively early hour. Even the kitchen at our hotel restaurant had closed down for the night, despite advertising a closing time of 10:30pm. This was all very upsetting - we'd driven all the way from Paris that day and hadn't eaten in at least 8 hours (yes I know, #firstworldproblems). So we took to the streets of Murren, hoping to find dinner, and eventually made our way into Tham's Chinese. After being told by the last lingering diners that the restaurant was closed for the night, we left dejected, but the chef/owner proceeded to chase after us and offered to cook us dinner. After some halfhearted protest and our apologies for the inconvenience, we ordered the sweet and sour prawns, and a spring roll. Both were above-average quality, which I guess surprised us being in the Alps. I'm not sure if or when we'll be back to Murren, but Tham is certainly a place we'd visit again. read more

We are Asian American from LA, USA. We are spoiled with cheap and authentic Asian food. This is our 3rd weeks of our Europe trip. We came to murren switzerland for 2 nights & forgot to exchange currency Swiss Franc! Lucky THAM accepts US Dollar & Euros !! We ate here twice because it was so good and used credit card everywhere else. At lunch we started with the "Mix starter" (which is an appetizer of 2 wontons, 2 spring rolls, 4 chicken nugget) Everything was fried. Then we ordered Wok noodle with vegetables. Very good!! Fabulous "Chinese" (really what I think of as Chinese-American) restaurant run by a Singaporean Chinese couple fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and German. We were won over when we walked in during a rainstorm as a family of four was leaving, and the owners insisted that the family take one of the outdoor umbrellas with them to keep them dry on their walk back, reassuring them that they could simply return the umbrella the next day. The fried veggie spring roll was the best we've ever had; the hot and sour soup was wonderfully flavored, though a tad cornstarchy; the wok-fried noodles with cabbage and beef was spot on, not too oily, and flavorful; the green chili chicken was mild but tasty; and the red chili sauce on the table was just awesome (similar to a Chinese chili sauce with the full chili seeds, thick almost tomato red color, and chili oil on top). It was a nice break from all the schnitzels, fondues, and raclettes, wonderful though those are. read more

If you're ever in the mood for some very NON- authentic Thai food or a terribly rude chef, this is your go to. The Thai curry tasted like tom yum soup- it had no spice and minimal coconut milk. After very innocently asking the server if there was an order mix up we were approached by a YELLING chef stating he can't believe we didn't like his food (umm... what?) and that he 'can't custom create dishes for everyone'. Last I checked that was the point of ordering food at a restaurant (and paying CHF 23 for it) and not buying packaged food, right?
