    Afternoon tea
    Tejel P.

Went on Sunday for afternoon tea. Lovely spot for an afternoon tea of you are on a budget, but want to go somewhere nice. Parking is not an issue. Cost £12.50 each and we were served 3 sandwiches, 3 desserts and 2 scones each, with unlimited tea and coffee. We were pretty much full way way though, so the quantity is enough. At first the tea was not served strong, but they rectified this for us. After this, we had get up to call for assistance, which was annoying as it seemed the waitresses were pre-occupied at the back most of the time. We waited some time to pay and in the end we got up, paid at the bar which is opposite to the restaurant. We were seated in a quite cosy spot in the restaurant with a view of the Thames. We went for a girls catch-up and had a great time.

Quaint old hotel. No lift. Small hallways and staircases make for fun taking luggage up to the room. No air conditioning but the view from the room is great

Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!

Drawings all over the ceiling and wall -- unique spot and glad my colleague introduced us to Tummies! (Note - this review is for a visit in April 2017.) TUMMIES WARM BREAD - £3.45 Bread crusty on outside - just I like it! Served w/ olive oil, butter and pesto dip. Very good! LEMON & GARLIC CRUSTED COD FILLET - £13.95 Served w/ new potatoes, samphire & coriander cream. Very lovely. Cream helped add flavor. Expected fried fish but it wasn't fried. Great portion. Our server said this was a very popular dish. My colleagues ordered the Warm Chilli Salad (£11.95) and Roasted Rump of Spring Lamb (£15.95), and both enjoyed their entrees. DREAMY RASPBERRY CREME BRULEE - £5.95 Excellent and portion was bigger than expected. Overall great dining experience! My colleague who is a frequent diner mentioned they also have private dining rooms and cooking classes here too! FYI gratuity is not included unless 6+ people in your party.

The menu was quite interesting with plenty of bistro style choices. Service was reasonably good and attentive. The food was good - i had the warm duck salad for starters and it was excellent. The main course was huge... way too big. All in all, recommended for a casual night out with friends, family or kids. They also offer cooking classes and dinner at the chefs table fir entertaining groups.
