I scrolled down and saw one potential customer share her experience about her mom having cancer and having to share her mom's measurements with the owner- only for the owner to say the measurements were all wrong. I came in with my fiancé to look for an áo dài, and we absolutely hated our experience. The first thing the owner said to me was, "Why is someone so skinny picking a husband so big?" I thought it was an odd thing to say, so I laughed it off. While my fiancé was trying on his áo dài, I asked if I could try on something backless. She responded, "You're skin and bones. Why would you want something backless?" At that point, I was completely turned off. Why the constant body shaming? Then, once again, she brought up my fiancé's size. Lady, what is your problem?!? I texted my fiancé (he was in the fitting room) and told him I wanted to leave, so he hurried up. While I was standing there, the owner said, "Why don't you look for an áo dài?" I politely replied that my hands hurt and I didn't want to look. She then said, "Well, you've been on your phone the whole time. Maybe if you get off it, it won't hurt." Ma'am, I HAVE LUPUS and was having a flare up. My hands were hurting so badly that I couldn't even check in or take photos... something that's very rare for me, which is why there are none. I just wanted to get out ASAP. Thank goodness another couple came in (so we can leave and not deal with questions), and needed help, because she was rude to them too. They wanted to buy a brand-new dress instead of one from the rack that everyone had tried on, and she told them it would be $30 more. It wasn't even the price... it was her tone. Once again Thanh thuy went above and beyond to create the perfect custom ao dai for my wedding. My engagement dress was beautiful but my wedding ao dai was even better. I live in Louisiana and provided her with my measurements as well as some photos for inspo and she was able to mail me my dress so I did not have to physically go to her store. I ordered my dress in July and she finished it at the end of October. Communication was through text the whole time and she was very prompt. Honestly, when you're not a typical 0-8 size, it can be hard to find a kind seamstress to work with that doesn't comment on body size. She had many ready-to-buy or rent pieces in smaller sizes, and she was very helpful in helping me pick out details I liked to customize my ao dai as I could only fit into 2-3 bridal pieces. The ao dai turned out amazing, and I used it for both our wedding and separate tea ceremony. I really wanted something that was a bit more modern and could complement my figure (god knows ao dais are not kind to most body types). It was nice being able to look and the owner (Thuy) is very friendly. She helped me narrow down my search and gave me some recommendations as well. I think for the style I wanted, it was worth the value and I would come back to check out new styles for tet next year. So happy that I was able to work with Thanh Thuy over text messaging and sharing my measurements with her to create my dream ao dai. I wanted a modern take on my ao dai, in white and silver tone for my tea ceremony to match our wedding styling, so happy that she was able to bring this to life. I needed a last minute qipao / cheongsam for my wedding on 2nd of August and I was searching far and wide for a place that could create a custom qipao / cheongsam for me when I found Thanh Thuy Ao Dai!! I am from Singapore where it would be easy to find something like this, but it was suprisingy difficult to find in Orange County. I saw all the amazing reviews and immediately gave them a call and went in the next week! The owner, Co Thuy, was soooo lovely! When I showed her all the inspiration photos, she gave me an album to look through and together we came up with the color, pattern and design. The price was also very very reasonable for a custom made dress. I went in for one more fitting after the initial measurements, and she let me choose embroidery pieces to put on the dress. Even though it was already June, she was able to deliver the beautiful Cheongsam the week before my wedding. It was BEAUTIFUL! I loved the split-cape and the train so much.. I paired it with some red heels and a hairpiece and it was perfect. I originally was going to do my first dance in another dress, but we ran out of time for a change on the day itself so I ended up dancing in this dress! I tied the cape around my waist, picked up the train and danced. There had been an option for a bustle but I didn't think I was going to dance in it so I didn't add it... We were all having fun banter between us all, and Co Thuy joined in on the fun as well. What started as a shopping trip turned into a genuinely enjoyable experience. I called Thanh Thuy to see if she does wedding dress bustle. She assured me she has sewn bustles on many many occasions and it is easy. It was a disaster. She sewed 2 small clear flimsy buttons top/bottom and 2 on the sides that were not able to hold the train. The buttons kept undone due to heavy weight and my daughter ended up holding the train most of the night. Thanh Thuy may be cheap but not worth it. Thanh Thuy is a designer genius. I had a vision and she brought it to life. No one had my dress and I am able to reuse for other events (the train is detachable!). My husband also received many compliments on his ao dai with the subtleness of the design and reusability for other events. We're from AZ and flew into Santa Ana to her shop. In total, we made 3 trips including the initial brainstorm & measurements in Feb'24. Though she said she could have had everything done by the 2nd fitting (May'24) we chose to come out one more time so it's closer to the wedding for her to tailor closest to our wedding weight (Aug'24). Separately I had her create an ao dai for me back in 2016 for a wedding, still get compliments to this day. Came here looking for some wedding outfits. We had been to several other places before we came here trying to look for some outfits for the maids of honor and other family members. We were finding that a lot of other places would have great selections for the bride but for everyone else the choices were lackluster. However, when we came to this place the choices for everyone else were a lot better with more selections and better designs. The person there was also really helpful in finding a great outfit for everyone and also providing a very competitive price. We ended up renting several items here and we were surprised at how low the price was given that they also alter the clothing to fit the person too. Based on the Yelp starring system, this "2/5" indicates that this experience "could've been better." I would have to agree with that. Reading the prior reviews on the place, I wholeheartedly wished that this could have worked. I have also had raving referrals from friends too. So now, I'm speaking from my experience as a bigger girl that can understand Vietnamese, but can speak very little. AKA not Asian size and an Americanized Viet. But after a couple minutes... not really an attempt to know us or ask us many questions. They just redirected us to some sort of catalog book. After some browsing, I found some ao dais that I wanted to pull inspiration from in order to create a custom ao dai. They had me try one on for size, and shocker, it did not fit. But now having a better idea, I knew that we were going to have to get it 100% custom order from scratch. I asked for a card so we could be in contact via text. I texted days later about getting a customized ao dai for a wedding. And my interpretation is that she wanted me to come back to the store to look for the ao dai. I messaged back stating I was already there, but could come back if needed. From there? I was ghosted :(. Should I have tried harder to communicate? Sure. But, I don't think getting an ao dai should be THIS DIFFICULT if you are known for your stellar customer service. I knew I wanted to custom order my Ao Dai here from the get-go. Co Thanh Thuy is SO good with her hands in making beautiful, beaded, custom, detailed ao dais for any occasion. I had a specific idea and color in mind when we were planning our tea ceremony and wedding. After a few sentences and pictures, she knew exactly where I was going. She's easy to work with and she works fast too - I thought I had to place an order a year out but she asked for me to come back 5 months before the event. Midway through, we had to change directions with the color of the dress and although it was abrupt, she was understanding. As the weeks grew closer to our date, we would text her every week or so to make an appointment for our fittings. Every time I went in, more details were put on the dress(es) and they came out beautifully. I have known her for a couple years since my family goes there every year for our Tet Ao Dai's. We started the process around March 2024. I showed her specifically what I wanted since I am very much very detail oriented and she listened to my feedback and changed things for me. All the outfits had sewn in cups which I requested just to make the days easier when it comes to changing.
