I walked into That 80's Bar fully aware of its mixed reviews. A lot of 1-star complaints about strict rules, bad service, and the overall experience had me wondering if we were making a mistake. But our friends and my wife and I wanted to catch up somewhere with live music, so we gave it a shot. At its core, this place is exactly what it claims to be--a loud, divey 80's-themed bar with a dance floor, a DJ, and a live band. Drinks were basic but fine--no craft cocktails here, but that's not what this place is about. The crowd was mostly in the 30-50 range, with some younger and older. The vibe was definitely high energy, and for a lot of people there, it seemed like a fun, let-loose kind of night. The Experience: Crazy loud. Between the DJ and the band, it was LOUD--like, can't-hear-your-own-thoughts loud. Maybe we're just getting old, but we left when our ears couldn't take any more. Past Action Heroes were a wild ride. The band was high-energy and kept the crowd going, but for us, the constant sex jokes got old fast. Funny once, maybe twice... but after every song, it felt like overkill. The dancing crowd didn't seem to mind, so maybe that's just us. The atmosphere is what you'd expect. A dive bar with neon, a packed dance floor, and a crowd that's mostly there to party. If you're looking for a chill spot to sip drinks and chat, this isn't it. The Not-So-Great: No food + no re-entry is a bad combo. If you won't let people back in, at least offer some bar snacks. Rules matter, but so does customer experience. The no re-entry thing makes sense from a security perspective, but it doesn't make sense for customer satisfaction. They bent the rule for us, and that made a difference. They've been beaten up in reviews, but some complaints are valid. I can see why people either love or hate this place. The energy is great, but the policies and volume level might not be for everyone. Final Take: Honestly, this is a 3-star place for me, but I'm giving it 5 stars because they broke their own rule to accommodate us--which tells me they actually do care about the customer experience. Plus, I think some of the 1-star reviews are overly harsh. That said, management should take consistent feedback seriously. Would I go back? Maybe, with earplugs. Would I recommend it? Depends. If you love loud music, high-energy bands, and don't mind some over-the-top humor, this might be your spot. If you're looking for a more balanced, relaxed experience, this probably isn't it. Either way, if you go--eat first.

I haven't been to That 80s bar itself. Only twice for The Tron Speakeasy and the Evil dead speakeasy. Tickets are limited online and reserved timed so come early so you have enough time to enjoy your stay at the speakeasy. You're ticket comes with one drink token. Parking is either street or a swamp meet parking lot across the way. The Evil dead speakeasy had to be one of my favorites. The characters they hired and the whole theme. I love horror so I would definitely do it again according to a theme I enjoy.

I don't recommend coming here. If you go to the speakeasy next door, they will literally watch you if you come next door to the 80s bar, and then cut you off in drinks. They told my friend she's cut off because she's intoxicated. I didn't realize we had a drink limit if we do both. Apparently we don't but they're cutting us off regardless. It's her birthday and they're ruining it. They said she's intoxicated yet she is in heels, has not fallen, hasn't even tripped, hasn't done anything sloppy. Hasnt dropped a drink. This is incredibly unfair. Aside from the mistreatment of my friend, the drinks are still wack. 4 drinks here, two at the speakeasy and I'm sober lol this is ridiculous. $120 later not including two entrance fees you would think I would have a buzz. If you want good music and bad drinks this is the place for you

Is this 18 and over my daughter just turned 19?

    sorry, 21 & over only

    When is karaoke?

    Every Wednesday night

What time is good time to be there to get a table?

    I'd say 8ish

Are people able to reserve for a group for birthdays?

I went there for my friends birthday and we were told they don't take reservations :( sucks I know. Just get there early enough to save tables and seats.

Does it Normally get packed for a Saturday night around 9 or 10?

No joke and I had to experience it for myself.. on a Saturday you have to get there as soon as they open. It gets so packed that as people leave they let the same number of people in. The security will even tell you to get there early. Really fun…

Is it only 80's music? Are there hip hop nights?

It is only 80s music however they will have the occasional rock en espanol vs 80s night or Selena tribute nights.

Is there a cover for Saturday nights?

There is a cover charge on fridays and Saturday's that range from $10-$20 depending of VIP is offered or not but usually $10 and cash only for cover.

    Is it just English music?

Depends on the dj but usually yes

    Is it casual?

Yes, it is very causal. Some people dress up in 80's wear too!…

    What is the entrance fee?

    $10

This year we got the usual great lineup but instead of the DIY style show in a parking lot, Professor Vic moved it to the Cathedral. Located right off Garey, The Cathedral is tough to miss. There's plenty of street parking on Center St and there's also a small parking lot across the street. This used to be a YMCA but it looks like an old church with dark wood flooring, high ceilings and stained glass windows. A very cool venue. How did it sound? Loud. Extremely loud. They also had a huge video board which gave each band a little extra hot sauce. There were a couple of bars in the back and you could also order food. It's air conditioned in there but between the heat (100+ outside at the time) and the amount of bodies inside, it was at least bearable. Mosh for Youth was great as always and while I loved the DIY ethos in the past this felt like a leap forward. The sound, look and venue made this feel big time. I hope future MFY shows take place here...until they maybe outgrow this place too, which would mean more scholarships for the kids. Highly recommended!

Plenty of parking spaces, it opens at 7pm so it feels early when it's still light out. They play a lot of oldies, 80s and 90s songs. I kind of felt out of place not knowing a lot of the older songs. Younger folks might have a tough time following along the songs. If you want your song played it's like a $20 payment unless no one is there and you might get away with under $20. You can put in special requests at the beginning of the night to highlight someone's birthday and they might get called up on stage. Or pay $100 and get to sing your song on stage. While the venue looks ginormous, the seats are extremely uncomfortable. There is very little space left for you to stand up and dance. There was a guy in our row that had to constantly get up to go to the bathroom and we all had to leave our row and empty out into the aisle to let him through because that's how tight it was. My husband, who is 6'3", was extremely uncomfortable because his knees kept knocking into the metal seat in front of him, so he had to angle his leg into my space just so he wouldn't cramp. While that was the case, I appreciated the ushers clearing the aisles by having all the other attendees move back into their seats (folks spilled out into the aisle to get more room to dance). It made going to the bathroom easier. Without these ushers, it would've been utter chaos. I hope they can update their seating because it's a basic component of a concert-goer's experience. It would be such a shame if their neglect of their patrons continued.
