If you're looking for a hometown, dive bar.. this is it. It's a casual hangout with high-top tables, a pool table, and a dart board. They offer beers on tap, alcohol, and food. They have a music box where you can pay a little for a whole lot of music and fun. You can see that it has frequent visitors by their conversation and comfortable manner. Hi brow is great. I came on a Monday at 1230pm. Very chill older crowd and great drinks. Bartender was very polite and kept a perfectly balanced check in on us. She would ask us if we needed a fill at the right times. You can play tunes with Ami jukebox. I can't wait to come during the weekend and see what it's like! My second time here and my husband and I had a fun time. Our bartender was Autumn, I believe. I could be wrong but she was tall and had blonde hair and afew necklaces. I rate things based on what they are. Are dive bars five star establishments? No. But is this a five star dive bar? You decide. Before diving into the negatives of why this location gets a one-star from me, I will say that this is a prime hotspot for people who are looking to get into the regular dive bar scene in the Inland Empire and Claremont area. A lot of regulars from bars in town, including staff at some of these locations, go to this bar. They do have a jukebox that allows you to control the music from your phone, so that is very convenient and fairly affordable. They're also open to the regular late night hour of 2 a.m., so this can be a good after spot if your location closes earlier. I really enjoy dive bars, and I understand that they don't have the same high standards that you get from some of these craft bars that have been opening up all over Southern California and the rest of the country. Like many other dive bars, this location features a restroom that is never clean, a vibe that could be described as surly at best, and absolutely no drink menu. The bathrooms (or bathroom I should say as each gendered one features only one toilet), are unacceptable. One night there was puke all over the mirrors and the back of the toilet. Two weeks later, and the puke was still there. One positive that you get from dive bars is a colorful staff. A place to go where you can just say who cares, I'm here to drink. What you get from Hi Brow however, is a group of people who really don't even want you there in the first place, and don't mind making it known. My personal experience is having the bartenders leave the bar, go to my table, and ask for my ID....several times. There are usually a couple girls working, and each one has done this to verify my age. I respect the law, and I absolutely get it. I even understand that this is my experience every time I go to Hi Brow, despite practically being a regular. What makes the experience go from awkward to mortifying is on a separate night, by someone I have shown my ID to before, being told to leave because there are no underage people allowed at the bar. I understand that sometimes younger patrons can look too young. But there's a reason you ask for ID before assuming. My advice would be to go to this bar if you want to meet locals. Go to this bar if you need somewhere to go and everywhere else is closed. Go to this bar if you just want a true dive, and are looking for some grit. Avoid this bar if you want to be treated with any amount of respect by the bar staff. read more

I'm a Single Mom who works 2 jobs and the Hi Brow is walking distance from my home. This use to be a great place for me to go after work around 11pm to unwind and meet my Best Friend. But there's a new ridiculous rule regarding fraternizing.... And now no employees can have friends in the bar when they work.... My issue is the inconsistency. Because the bartenders still have their girlfriends/boyfriends visiting. I've been in Customer Service for over 25 years and my advice to the owners of this business is to invest in a secret shopper. And I'll probably be back . . . but with some qualifications. It's a dive. As divey as they come. Small, dim, pool table, glimpse into the back storeroom. It felt like I was the only nonregular there. One guy said "Hi" to me, and I thought I was about to be hit on; but no, "Hi" was just "Hi." The music was a little too loud for conversation, but fortunately conversation was not what I was there for. The bartendress took my order promptly and professionally. Now here's the thing: My drink was hella CHEAP ($8), hella BIG, and hella STRONG. Only moderately tasty -- the underlying gin was not of the highest quality -- but passable, let's say a B-. RUDEST BARTENDERS EVER! Good grief.. 3 girls with their noses up in the air, refusing to serve us, telling me and my friends we had too much to drink when we literally ordered ONE drink from them. They were so condescending and I'm convinced one of them kept my friend's credit card. Never experienced such a thing, especially at a seedy, dirty bar like this. I honestly think it's because my friend is gorgeous and skinny and was getting a lot of attention from some of the "regulars" -- cute young guys coming up to her/us (as guys usually do) and not paying attention to the miserable troglodytes behind the bar. Went early morning to catch a soccer game. The staff was super sweet, so accommodating, really went out of their way to find the game on a weird channel. The barkeep was a carbon copy of George Carlin, complete with the biting humor and the gravely demeanor. Hilarious and downright lovely. I've only been coming to the hibrow for the past year and let me tell ya the entire staff is super friendly and very attentive. Jason is an awesome bartender, think that's his name, very friendly, as is everybody else in there. Also shout out to the new kid Alex who works there because he was taking care of everything with a house that was packed. Been here a few times. Stopped in tonight (Tuesday) for a few drinks with friends. Love the location & idea of the bar. Tonight was karaoke night. No real complaints, as we heard a lot of decent singers. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars, is the music is a tad TOO loud for a Tuesday. Like turn it down 2 notches. Horrible, nasty, dirty place, has hookers and homeless people. Michelle the bartender serves drinks to customers who never should be behind the wheel of a car. It's no wonder one of the regulars ran over and killed someone and didn't even know until the next day when she was back at the Hi Brow. I really wanted to not believe the other reviews of first timers and came in with an open mind. One of the main reasons I came is because I was in the mood for some greasy bar food... No kitchen, menu or anything else in sight. I walk up to the bar and patiently wait for a young female bartender to even just take 2 seconds from the meaningless drunken conversation with a regular to acknowledge she sees me. The other reason I came is because I like to play the CA Lottery Hot Spot (Keno) for fun. I scan a couple tix from yesterday and discover $16 of winnings. I finally ask the bartender if she could cash them for me and also get me a vodka tonic. She rolls her eyes, reluctantly takes them and without the most minimal effort comes back and tells me the machine won't scan them when I literally just did it myself. She gives me my drink with a look that also came with the words "I do have people sitting there at the bar so you'll have to move now". If it weren't for the fact the drink was actually decent this place would've gotten 1 Star. And even that's generous since I to go to the liquor store next door to cash my tickets. Instead of earning my business, Hi Brow just convinced me to grab some liquor store food, cheaper beer, and cash my tickets instead of waste my time in such an unwelcoming place. Shame... I remember the first time I saw the centerfold of a Playboy magazine. I didn't know what I was looking at, but I knew I liked it. That's how I feel about the Hi-Brow. A dive bar requires dive people, and that's what this place has in spades. It was one customer's birthday and the bartender made him a blow job martini and put a book of matches in it for the candle. Look at the pictures here on Yelp to see it for yourself. The patrons seem to all know each other. You may feel like an outsider, but not for long. They are friendly in a dive bar kinda way. A few patrons thought we were cops and we played along. The waitress and bartender come around to chit chat with you. We sometimes make this the last stop when we have nights out and want "just one more" because it's so close to home. By now, you can probably tell that it's a very divey dive bar. It's the kind that reeks of spilled beer when you walk in, but you stop noticing as a few seconds as your senses adjust and the loud music, dim lighting, and fun atmosphere overshadow it. Drinks are ridiculously cheap; between $4-$6. Try the Breakfast Shot, which is 2 shots in a row. I know one includes Jameson and I think syrup, and the other is orange juice and bacon. The bartenders are all friendly, fun, and chatty. They brought us lots of water without asking, saving our lives for the next day, and seemed like they were having fun, which of course helps everyone in the bar to have more fun. I think they have karaoke nights, too. Overall, it's a fun place! read more

The bartender was so rude to my friend about her ID. my friend showed her , her real ID AND her tribal ID because she's Native American. She was so rude and responded "I'm not stupid I know what that is" she obviously didn't since she didn't know it's a government issued ID. We've never had an encounter like this especially with a white women coming at her about her Native American tribal ID with her government name. So ridiculous it sobered us up so quick. The woman working on the night of 4/2 needs a reality check on what Native American IDs are. So rude that white women will talk like this to people of color.
