On the aspect of diagnosis and the followup: They are very transparent, helpful, and polite. I have a Lenovo Legion PC. It worked completely fine one night, and in the morning it wouldn't turn on at all. Turns out, it started storming after I went to sleep, and some power surge killed my GPU (yes, I had a surge protector and the PC was off). I took it to them and they had it diagnosed within the day. They tested all of the parts, and called me with all of the information they had acquired so far. Replacing the GPU was a sudden expense, but any questions I had, I called them and they helped from start to finish, and were respectful with me, my hardware, and all other aspects. They installed the new GPU for me and everything seems great so far. My PC is in the same, if not better condition after being with them for 4 days. For both diagnosis and installing the GPU, the grand total was only $120, which would have been much higher had I gone to another repair center. The GPU itself was much more of a hole in my wallet, so I'm keeping that price private. The only negative experience I had with them was their diagnostic price is still set lower on their website, but I believe the increase is a pretty recent change, so I don't blame them for lagging on updating it. Stephen was transparent, understanding, approachable, and made me feel like my computer issue was his issue too. I'm tech-savvy in some ways, but I know very little about the inner workings of computers. After spilling some (very little) water on my brand new MacBook Pro one night, I called That Computer the next day when it didn't turn on. I had a huge 2-day job interview in San Antonio. A big presentation, and my flight was 2 days away. Ultimately, the store couldn't fix my computer - the board was fried...but I will enthusiastically recommend to anyone who has computer issues. Stephen listened to my situation, asked me questions, and explained my options. I wasn't hysterical, but I was distraught so I asked him if he would help work through my options (rent a laptop? Buy a new one? Wait patiently hoping this one could be revived in time?) He was extremely open with me about what he (or any computer person) would be able to do for my Mac. He helped me work through what I should do given my situation. I felt fully informed, and despite my lack of knowledge re: computers, he never made me feel stupid. His immediate advice helped me make the best decision without wasting money and time. The second he realized it couldn't be resuscitated, he called me so I could make other arrangements. I find it extremely fishy that my GPU fan was unplugged after I had them disassemble my pc and ship my parts to me. Nearly impossible for this to "just happen". I talked to Stephen on the phone and he was short with me. You'd think when you pay someone $150 to disassemble a PC that they could at least do it the right way. The thing I don't get is why even go through the trouble of doing this. I think I found out why it took you guys "longer than expected". You spent a half hour taking apart my GPU heat sink only to unplug the fan and then reassemble. Petty much...? I want to love this place and recommend it to my family but it seems it's no different from most other mechanics and PC repair shops. I trust them as far as I can throw them. If I wasn't experienced with PC building and knew what was going on I would have been out a $400 GPU. This place does one thing right and that's nerd culture. Though I imagine it's not profitable enough to afford the lease on their new storefront. Looks like they have resorted to shady business practices to close the gap. I brought my Toshiba computer to the Computer Store after being told by another store that they could not fix my computer and that they could not even order the parts for my PC. That statement was made in less 10 seconds after which he directed me where in their store I could purchase a new PC. I decided to go only 0.4 mile to That Computer Store. As soon as I walked in the store I was greeted and asked how they could help me. Unethical business. I paid $50.00 to diagnosis my laptop in July 2021. Then paid an additional $176.00 to have the keyboard replaced. I noticed some of the keys were slightly sticking as soon as I brought the computer home. All keys were operable but I was not able to fluently type. I brought the laptop back to TCS this past Wednesday to see if they could fix the problem. TCS contacted me the following day and told me that the new keyboard may not be under warranty since something had been "spilled" on it. I again explained to them that the keys were sticking from the day I picked up my laptop from them. They went on to explain that I would possibly have to purchase ANOTHER keyboard. This was unacceptable and I went to the TCS after work to pick up my laptop. Now many of the keys are not working at all and the caps lock is permanently stuck on the on position. You can see in the pictures that the cap lock appears to have been pried up. These keys WERE WORKING when I dropped it off at TCS the day before. My laptop is now inoperable. Since TCS does not allow customers to email them, this is a he said/she said situation, and I have nothing in writing. I am so disconcerted by the disreputable service I received from TCS that I will be requesting a credit card chargeback and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. PLEASE do not use this business if you are looking for your electronics to be repaired because in my case they did not repair my laptop, they destroyed it. read more

The last time I had problems I called this store and they fixed my old laptop and had me back up and running in no time. They changed locations but still have the same great service. They are more than willing to offer assistance really fast. Today my laptop took a dump and I couldn't get windows up on the screen. I took it to them and he fixed it right there. He wasn't going to charge me either. But, I've been having trouble for some time so I let him keep it to do a computer tune up for $50. Better than having to but a new laptop. These guys are awesome. That Computer Store has been my go-to repair store for years now, and there really is no comparison between them and chain tech places attached to retail stores. The atmosphere itself is fantastic- enough so that my wife, who has social anxiety, walks in with me and feels completely comfortable and at ease (not a normal thing for her while out or meeting people!). It feels like a game store meets a tech store. We have had relaxed and enjoyable conversations with the many interesting and knowledgeable personalities there, and we feel like they really care about what they do and enjoy being both a community hub for the geek-inclined and repair mecha for those in need. They don't offer what we don't need: they give us genuine and straight up good counsel. We sincerely believe they are trying their best to offer us the services we need when we need them, and since I have some tech knowledge they have even outright told me when (if I felt secure and comfortable doing it myself) that might be a better option. I can build my own computer and do my own installations, but it is a high stress process- we do not have a ton of finances, so it is a relief for me to know they are around to call on. I recently had them do an installation for me, my computer is safe in their hands. Customer Service: 5/5, everyone there is friendly, shares our geeky interests, and the techs are knowledgeable, open almost all week, EXTREMELY good turnaround times for us and we can trust they will not leave us hanging- I don't have to pester them to make sure my computer is being worked on! I can't emphasise HOW IMPORTANT this fact is!!! Integrity: 5/5, they've gone above and beyond to make sure we are taken care of and get only what we need. Price: 4/5, they aren't 'cheap' but they're not any more expensive than a place like Best Buy, and they certainly offer more for it! The prices are pretty standard, and while I couldn't afford it frequently- they do their job well enough that I don't have to come frequently, except perhaps for the good company or an upgrade! Overall: 5 stars, best computer repair store I have ever gone to (and I have been to a few). If you are going to a chain store - you're wasting your money for less service and value. Very prompt and friendly service. I tried 2 other stores in my area; one was for sale and the other was closed on a Saturday at 1130. I googled computer repair after sitting in Best Buy for 15 minutes with 3 other people waiting in front of me, which led me to That Computer Store. I got a call that my computer was ready on the same day and picked it up the next day with a fresh tune up and my user profile reset (which had completely locked me out after an update). Took my personal laptop in to "That Computer Store" on a Wednesday because I dropped it and broke the hinge. I spoke to them on the phone first and described the situation. They assured me they could fix a broken hinge. I took the laptop in and again, after examining the laptop and the broken hinge, they assured me they could fix it but they'd probably have to order parts. After some processing they said they needed $50 for diagnostics (which I paid) and they took possession of my laptop and advised they would contact me about the parts needed. The next day (Thursday), they called my home and advised "the hinge" needed to be replaced (which essentially is what I told them) and they had to order parts (hinge and back plate) from some outfit in California. They told me they needed me to come in and pay $80 for "the parts". I went straight down on that Thursday and paid the $80. I called for status the next day (Friday) and was advised that "the parts" were on order and they would be shipped FedEx ground. "The parts" would likely be delivered the following week around Wednesday. I called back the following week on Wednesday and was advised "the parts" had not arrived yet but were "in transit". I called on Friday morning to inquire about status since they had not called. They advised that "the parts" arrived this morning, and that were going to try and replace the broken parts and repair the laptop today. They would call me when they were done. Later on Friday, they called me to advise that the part replacement was complete but that the computer was not fixed. I pressed them to explain how that could be. They advised that they only ordered and replaced the back plate, and not the hinge, and that the hinge was in fact the broken part that needed to be replaced. I was infuriated. They had lied to me about what parts they had ordered. They demonstrated incompetence after I told them the hinge was broken and they decided after diagnostics that only the back plate had to be replaced. They hadn't told me about their errant conclusions following diagnostics and left me believing they had ordered a replacement hinge and a replacement back plate. They also advised they had to order 2 hinges in order to replace the 1 broken one. And that I needed to come down and pay them $100 more for the hinges. Did I mention, I was infuriated. So I went down to the store and spoke to the Manager, instead of the Technician who had misled me and mis-diagnosed the laptop problem. I told the Manager how infuriated I was, and why. That is, the Technician disregarded my information that the hinge was broken, and then didn't tell me that they didn't order the hinge. The Manager did not admit the problem with the lies, but did admit the Technician made a mistake. The combination of "incompetent Technician" + "lying Technician" + "Manager who refused to address the lying Technician" + "Manager who never once offered to solve the problem" led me to conclude "That Computer Store" would never again get my business, and that I would warn my friends and neighbors to "stay clear". read more
