Consistently rated one of the top haunted houses in the US, 13th Gate always knocks it out the park! They work year round on their detailed and amazing set designs (i actually spent more time looking at those than even trying to enjoy the spooks and scares). The actors are pretty good. We missed some of the features due to how our group got mixed with a slower moving couple who awkwardly held up things and kept pulling off to the side. I like that they have some actor engagement in the line... i feel like there could be more bc you really are just standing there. They added more bathrooms for the line, so that was nice. I appreciate the security in and around the house. This particular year (and perhaps previous years as I haven't been in a few), the whole thing ended pretty suddenly and lacklusterly when you just walk out into a store selling shirts.... no ending fright, nothing to really make it end memorably. We enjoyed the various places to take pictures across the street, and they always have some talented bands playing. I hadn't been here in years! It is still an awesome, spooky experience. My sister and I went on the Thursday before Halloween. We waited about an hour and 15 min in line. It wasn't too bad and the weather was nice. All of the rooms were very spooky and I got a lot of good scares. Thankfully we weren't grouped with any belligerent people (there was more than a few in line). We had a great experience. I found some house keys in the haunted house and security was very helpful with receiving them after I exited. Love this place read more

This was a huge disappointment, we haven't been in at least 5 years & were super excited to go back again. Take my advice and save the huge cost of attending I was actually bored walking through the 13th gate this year. The "actors" seemed lazy and there were very few of them. This is truly one of the best haunted houses Ive been to. Im not any Connoisseur of haunts, nor have I traveled to all of them throughout USA, but I can confidently say this is worth your money. The best one I had been to before this was cutting edge, and its on a different level. I like that it was mostly just me and my girlfriend walking through the rooms. We rarely ran into someone else or had a group follow us. There were rooms that I wish I could have stayed in for an hour, because the attention to detail and the craft involved with special effects was worth studying. There were plenty of frights, but there were moments where I was just simply awestruck (especially with certain animatronics). There were plenty of actors and moments where they timed it just right for you to see a story unfold. It was an extra touch I wasnt expecting but only enhances the experience tenfold. This is a jam packed 30 minutes and I would recommend you visit, even if you have to drive for a few hours to get here. With that being said, I want to fully acknowledge some things. Their ticketing system is STUPID! You have to cross the street to get a ticket, since the front door doesnt handle that. If you didnt know any better, youll be standing in line, only to find out you have to leave the line and lose your spot if you came solo. Luckily, if you come in pairs, its easy enough for someone in your group to hold your spot. The line is filled with loud and obnoxious teenagers. If this is too much for you, then consider getting a VIP pass. I was at the tail end of my vacation, so I didnt mind standing in line for an hour and 45 minutes before getting into the haunted house. we also showed up at 6:40 and the line was bonkers. It only got worse 30 minutes later. This was on a Sunday early in October. I can only imagine how busy it gets closer to Halloween, or on a Friday/Saturday. Parking is cash only, but if you get there early enough, there is actually plenty of parking in the surrounding area. I went last night with my friends. We waited an hour and a halfish in line before we made it, so not too bad of a line, especially for Friday the 13th. While you're waiting in line some of the actors will walk by, which was cool. I was pretty scared to do it after a traumatic haunted house experience when I was younger, but to be honest, the waiting room inside was spookier than the actual contents? Like most of the jump scares didn't get me, especially after we caught up to the group in front of us and they triggered the jump scares first. But the feeling of dread of being jump scared and looking around each corner in order to try and find the actors or props was the scariest bit. The sets were pretty cool, but I was in flight mode so I didn't really get an opportunity to admire them all. There were some gory rooms, and also some safe rooms to catch your breath. My friends who didn't want to go in the haunted house went to the concert, which was pretty good according to them. The Pros: Amazing haunted house with great sites throughout. The actors and props make for such a realistic experience. It's not a 5 minute walk through so the value is seen throughout. Nice to also have options outside the haunt to keep the night going. And although parking is paid parking there seemed to be many close by options. The Con: my only disappointment was the false advertising done in the long wait lines. Posters advertised a VIP club that would allow VIP entry at General Admission prices to participating haunts, so we left the long line to go across the street to purchase VIP tickets to only be informed this option no longer existed. So at the point upgrading was our only option because the line we left had more than doubled. read more

The wait time is extremely long, getting VIP tickets as definitely worth it. They also have a blood bank drive parked on the side of the line, if you give blood you get for VIP tickets. It's not tickets to get into the park it is just the upgrade. They let a lot of people in at the same time, so there is really not a lot of surprise scares, but the attraction and decorations are pretty cool. It's almost a 40 minute walk through the whole place, So it's a very long haunted house. Great make up, And costumes. read more

So while I think it had good effects none of us could see most of the attraction. My best friend bought 13th gate tickets for my birthday! It was one of the best things she could have ever done! We absolutely LOVED IT! We give it a 10/10. We were so surprised as to how long the actual walkthrough was. Not at all what we initially thought. We thought it would never end. Lol. There were so many different elements to the attraction and the whole thing was really impressive. We also visited Necropolis. I was not too impressed by this particular attraction. Only because we went into 13th Gate first. Necropolis would have been a good warmup leading into 13th gate. But all in all we definitely enjoyed ourselves. Hands down an excellent Haunted House production. Excellent job by the crew, actors, and all those involved in making the experience a great one for consumers. This is the 2nd consecutive year I have gone to the 13th Gate with my girlfriend. Great experience for people of all tolerances to horror and gore, whether you jump at first sight or just laugh at it all (me). The amount of attention to detail is astonishing and is well appreciated. I hope they continue to add new rooms and themes as well as have actors and actresses who are good at improv when a person speaks back (also me)(hope y'all don't hate it). I will say I did miss the second park in the Acropolis offered in 2017, but the Carnevil theme was definitely on point. The Axe throwing and escape rooms were also a nice touch. I will return, and would recommend for anyone stopping in Baton Rouge this time of year. Get there early, drive around to find free parking and bring an empty Dr. Pepper can to receive $5 off a ticket! The consensus is in- 13th Gate does indeed live up to its stellar reputation as one of the country's top haunted house attractions. Venturing through the 13 horrific realms of 13th Gate is guaranteed to get you in the Halloween spirit. Be prepared for the never-ending, terrifying nightmares that you will be wanting to awaken from! Our group of 12 opted to visit both 13th Gate and Necropolis and spent a total of 1.5 hours waiting in lines and walking through the attractions. We arrived right before 11:30pm on a Friday night and purchased general admission tickets at the booth. I would advise coming during off-peak times to have the best experience and not worry about running into other groups inside the haunted house. And ladies, please leave those heels/sandals at home- wear comfy closed toe shoes. Since we arrived at the later end of the night, we went to Necropolis first. Walking down 13 steps into an underground cemetery and navigating through the maze of crypts was definitely eerie. Every twist and turn lead to scary surprises, and the monsters of the night catch you off guard, leaving you screaming and running for your life. 13th Gate mesmerized me in the most frightfully horrific way. The elaborate attention to detail in each realm was outstandingly life-like and transports you to a Hollywood horror movie set. The actors really embraced their characters. Their corresponding costume and makeup allowed them to successfully deliver the ultimate scare experience. You really do start to wonder when the nightmare of horrors will end. I don't scare easily but I admit being scared a couple of times that night. One negative was the timing between groups. We ended up catching up with the group ahead of us, which lessened the anticipation of being scared since we could hear their reactions. I know it was pretty crowded that night and they probably wanted to shuffle all the people through before closing. Some parts were really dark and it was hard to see the path. No worries on getting lost though because the monsters will guide you along the way as they scare you! Visit 13th Gate if you dare- only the brave will survive! read more

The last two years I went it was fantastic. This year I was extremely disappointed. Complaints: The wait took just as long as my wait last year (2 hrs & 45 min), & the line was 3x shorter. The doors open at 6:30, & I was there for 7 pm on a Sunday. Also, when they start to divide the line a lot more people behind us went in before us. They section everyone off before you enter. Well a character goes to let us in, & asks, "Are you ready?" The girl in front replies, "No" so she put the chain back up & went to let all the other rows next to us go first. Added an addition 10 minutes of waiting. I was not happy about that. There were not scary characters outside going through the lines like before. It was hot as hell. They could afford to put more fans in the lines once you enter the coveted part as well as in the building. I have to say I didn't get scared once. That could be because 1. I was the first one in the line 2. I remembered some things from previous years 3. I didn't get to witness anyone get scared once we caught up to the group ahead of us, which is half the fun. I didn't find there to be as many scares either. Lastly, the ending was lame. Normally they scare you & people run out. This time we all just walked out. Pros: The costumes & characters are amazing. The themes in the rooms are fantastic. They added a Wizard of Oz portion, which was well done. I felt like I was walking through a museum (not scary unfortunately). It takes about 30 minutes to go through. Although I loved the graveyard across the street better, which they knocked down, I still enjoyed the new setup. They have ax throwing, clown dunking, escape rooms, & virtual stuff for $5 each. On Fridays & Saturdays they have bands & a bar. All in all it's worth checking out. Just expect a long wait. "The thrills, the chills and the spills"... we experienced them all! Oh the anticipation and an uneasy stomach leading up to this event made me one nervous nellie. The only way I told my husband I would go was if we went with a big group and that we did! We gathered for appetizers and drinks prior to the event to get relaxed and excited about getting scared out of our minds. Just looking at the website gave me the creepy crawlies, so I was not really looking forward to going. The last haunted house I went to was on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA and that scared me half to death! We spent a majority of the time in the dark engine room of an old ship with a constant invasion of our personal space, so the thought of another haunted house was not in the cards! Going with a group is so much better! Safety in numbers!! Anyway, my husband has been wanting to go to the "13th Gate" since we moved here and this year, we finally got a chance to go! So here is how it went down. Our group decided to go pretty early to avoid a super long wait. The lines were not that terrible. We still had to go buy tickets - the ticket booth was across the street from the haunted house and went by pretty fast. Want $5 off? Bring an empty Dr. Pepper can (each person in your group will need to bring one). Easy enough. Not everyone in the party needs to get in line, so if you are going with a big group one person needs to bring all the cans with them in a bag (for the # of people in your group) and that one person can buy tickets for everyone. Once we had tickets in hand, we crossed the street and went to the end of the line. The end of the line happened to be on the other side of the building (by the train tracks). If you end up there... wait time to get in is approximately an hour. Need to use the restroom, while in line? There are port-a-potties, but those are a bit dark on the inside, so go across the street to the "Brick Yard" across the street and buy a drink, so you can use the restroom! It's clean in there! There are actors dressed in scary costumes that will completely catch you off-guard and try to scare you in line... that creeped me out!! I don't like strangers in my personal space, but they cannot touch you! Upon the entrance, make sure you group does not get broken up... it can happen! Let them know you want to go in together! The sets were quite impressive and the actors never broke character! I got scared during several parts of the house... yes, people do pop out at you and some may not look real, but don't ever doubt they will move and try to scare you. Now, for the million dollar question... was it terrifying? Coming from a frady-cat, like me, it was not! By the time they opened the door to the outside, I was like... "that's it"? After seeing that kids were allowed to go, when accompanied by a parent and 12+ could go alone, I was thinking, how scary can it be? Many parts of it look very realistic. This is the best haunted house you will ever go to. If you disagree, go to it and get back to me. The sets are extraordinarily elaborate. The crew who build the house work on real Hollywood movie sets during the off season which gives you a clue to how realistic and perfect everything looks. Their first scene, The Hellevators, can very well compete with Disney's Tower of Terror Themeing. I have no clue how they fit everything inside their building. There is everything from underwater submarine sets to swamp areas. The staff has always been very "friendly." That's in quotes because most are in character so they might not appear very friendly at first, but they have always been helpful to me when needed. The line to get in is usually rather long, though they try to move it along as fast as possible while giving everyone the experience they deserve. My tip is to go early or go on a slower weeknight early in the season. read more

This haunted house is spectacular!!! We went on a Saturday night and the line was wrapped around the building. Considering the amount people standing in line the line move smoothly and quick. I don't want to give anything away but I was beyond pleased with the haunted house and the theatrical production I mean it's awesome. The team has done it again! If you're looking to be totally creeped out - this is the place. We've been going for 5 years in a row and have never been disappointed. 13th Gate is one of the best in the country for a reason ...many reasons, actually. Here are a few: 1. Themes: each section is well-themed with attention to detail worthy of a Hollywood movie set 2. Acting: the characters truly come to life! Not only do they jump out to scare you, the actors taunt you and make it a fun and spooky experience. 3. Updates: every year there is something new! So even if you go all the time, you can still be surprised. This year my favorite new addition was the pirate ship! Complete with a gang-plank, rum-swilling pirates, a starry sky AND a real ocean (well, sort of - the boat was "on the water" - so suspension of disbelief lead me to call it an "ocean"). 4. Necropolis: the graveyard (a separate but totally amazing part of the experience) always adds to the evening's experience. 5. Logistics: Boring stuff like parking, lines, crowd control, security...they're...well, boring. But important all the same. Generally 13th Gate does a great job with all of this. The lines can be JUMPED by buying ($$) a VIP pass. Hint: save the cash and go early in the evening or on the first couple weekends that its open. The closer to Halloween you get, the longer the lines will be! On a busy night, be prepared to wait for an hour or more in line. Crowds and security never seem like an issue, but there are cops on hand in case anything happens and the security does include a metal detector (leave those knives and guns at home people! This place is scary enough!). Minus one star for the lack of reasonable restrooms (4 port-o-potties for all those people!?). Did the experience give me nightmares? I look forward to coming here every year! Usually you have to wait in a long line to get it, but they provide entertainment while you wait in line. Once you get inside they take you to the Hellavator. Then you go through the haunted house on your own. Sometimes you are with groups of people, but you kinda go at your own pace. The rooms are made up with some much detail. A lot of it looks so real! The people that work as the characters are really good and stay in character the whole time. It doesn't take very long to go through, but it's definitely worth a visit! read more

A clown came out of the ceiling at one point and I jumped back so far that I actually fell down and skinned my elbow...so yea...it's scary. This season I've been to 20 haunts including Universal Horror Nights, Knotts Scary Farm, 6 Flags, House of Shock, 13th Floor and this is the best. I should mention I enjoy haunts, but don't really scare easy. Heck if I jump twice from boo scares in a haunt the actors did an amazing job. With that said, my husband couldn't believe his eyes when I fell backward while legitimately screaming in Necropolis. I was also genuinely uneasy around one character in particular in Necropolis too. (Thanks a lot Dr. Who!!!!) There was one other incredibly patient and dedicated actor that "got me" when I thought he was an animatronic and he sent me jumping on my way. This may not sound like a big deal to the average person, but if you knew me you'd understand what an amazing job these actors did as well as the brilliance of the maze design ad application. It's incredible! Now onto The 13th Gate haunt in the building across the street from Necropolis. The best word to describe it, "WOW!" The attention to detail is insane!!! LIVE rodents and snakes...are you kidding me!?!? Amazing!!! The actors are great. The sets are better than Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights and that's a freaking movie studio! The 13th Gate is simply mind blowing. There's one scene that thrilled me beyond anything I could imagine. It felt like I had actually stepped into my favorite horror movie (technically the remake) and I couldn't find my boomstick anywhere. I don't want to give too much away, but the fairy tales were another favorite for me. Oh and London. Oh and the ice. Went on a trip to Baton Rouge and New Orleans during Halloween week in 2015, and the 13th gate was definitely the highlight of the trip. I was blown away by all the details put into this place. You can tell they put a lot of work into it. The automatons, the props, the details.. Everything is top notch. I would visit Baton Rouge again just to go back to the 13 gate. The sets are allegedly created by award-winning movie-industry production crew members, and it shows. The scenes are well-done, the ideas are unique (walking across a bridge over a pit of live snakes? Yes, please), and the price is very reasonable. It was the longest and probably the most well thought-out haunted house I've ever been too. That being said, as good as the sets were, one must always account for the human variable-- the possibility of bad actors. Some were great, some looked 16 and bored out of their minds. One was standing around and chewing gum. I can't say if this is a constant thing, as I've only been through the 13th Gate once, but every haunted attraction I've ever been to thus far has had at least a couple sub-par actors, so I wouldn't NOT go here on account of this. One final and very important note: if you go here (and you should), make damn certain you also go to Necropolis 13, the new haunted venue right across the street that's owned by the same people. It's only $10 more if you go to both, and it's the best haunted attraction I've EVER SEEN. Unforgettable performances by the cave man who quickly leaped in front of a patron and grabbed onto the wall, the exorcist disappearing and reappearing act, the lady who apparently sawed her arm off, and the clown who almost ran us over in a van. The 13th Gate - Necropolis 13 - Haunted Houses Near Me - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

This is a very well done haunted house! To start off, we got in line around 6 PM for a 6:30 opening. We were outside until 7:30 PM and then got to the inside portion (which is air conditioned). Once we were inside, we waited about 15 minutes longer to start. Not a terrible wait for the general admission tickets, honestly. While waiting, there are some characters strolling about, so be ready for pictures. The staff while waiting is all very friendly, and the ladies taking tickets were particularly kind and inviting. I won't give anything away, but the themes inside of the different sections are fantastic - very diverse with every type of horror you could imagine, gruesome, violent, spooky, freaky, etc. You get your money worth on the walk through because it is about 30 - 45 minutes long. There are very well done special effects from lights and fog to various moving parts. Some of the walk through is inside, and some is outside, which also adds to the effect. What is important is who you are with and who is in front of and behind you. We were surrounded by kids on both sides who generally made us laugh, which lightened the mood. It probably would have been scarier without them, but still a good experience. Congrats to the staff and actors for putting on a great show. It is a really special immersive experience, and I'm glad we got a chance to see it for ourselves. read more

Visited the 13th Gate on October 30th with a large group (13) of adults and teenage mix. I visited this haunt last year with some adult friends and despite getting knocked in the head with a falling door frame that ended my night early (this is another story), we overall had a good time. This year I brought more friends and family in hopes of a good scare. We decided to split into small groups to make the experience better. Staff rushed many groups behind each other which caused you to be aware of the scares ahead of time. Groups were on top of each other and the whole experience was rushed. I knew things would be different due to COVID-19 guidelines but this was ridiculous. Price did not change so the experience should not have changed either. Would not recommend this year or next depending on COVID status. read more

I believe that this is the best, most thought out, planned haunted house. I will start by saying I am not your typical haunted house goer. I don't get spoofed easily and remain unemotional. I am a haunted house actors worst nightmare. Enter the 13th gate. As a detailed oriented person I found the intricate work of the props, sets and cast makeup stunning. I don't want to give away too much about the interior because that takes away the fun. I will say that it is worth the trip from New Orleans to BR to go and it is worth the money. The house took us about 30-40 minutes to get through from start to finish. We also opted to pay for the VIP ticket to cut the line which I highly recommend. The line on a Saturday night can easily be 2 hours long and I definitely don't have time for that! With the "cut the line" ticket we waited a total of 5 minutes. They also break you up into small groups of about 10 so the group in front of you doesn't spoil the next scare. I was the first person in my group and I never saw or heard the group in front of us. This makes it more scary because you almost forget there are other people in the house besides your group. It allows you to take it all in and not get distracted. That is what makes the 13th gate different from all the rest I have been to. They put a lot of effort in the production value and really want you to experience it. While waiting in the underlit lobby, one of the guys I was with lit his lighter to read something on the wall. There were 2 security guards on the lobby, one bald, one with hair, neither in costume but in 13th Gate polos. Upon my companion lighting his lighter, the haired gentleman yells in a voice that reminded me of a power-hungry gym teacher with an a$$hole complex, "Put that lighter in your pocket or I'll take it from you!" My companion said ok and put his lighter away. My companion didn't back-talk this guy, didn't complain that he was being spoken to like a child, didn't do anything but try to read the picture on the wall. He would've used his phone but we were told repeatedly to put our phones away. We get to the front of the line and took our picture with Tilly. We were helped by Morgan whom we met earlier at the escape room. Both of these ladies and all of the cast in the lines and in the haunted house were fantastic! Make-up on point, polite yet firm, not rude and really just great! We waited in line for over an hour even though we were first in line. We never complained. We never made a fuss. Now... Imagine my surprise when I noticed the haired polo-wearing man from the lobby was following us... And not in the fun, ominous, haunted house kind of way. No. It was VERY obvious he was following because of the lobby incident. The lobby incident that I should point out only really required a simple "please put the lighter away", similar to how we were asked to put our phones away. But instead this guy decided to follow us around and ruin our haunted house experience. I counted him 9 times throughout the course of our walk-through and each time he was plainly visible and really ruined half the experience by being an obvious standout in his security polo while everyone around him is in full horror make-up. There were 5 of us that paid not only for the haunted house but the escape room. We drove from Lafayette. This was not an easy or cheap experience and it was ruined because one of your security guards decided that out of everyone there, the group of 5 sober 30+ year olds needed to be followed around like children. When we left, we saw an ambulance outside with a few employees attending to someone. I sincerely hope whomever that was is ok seeing as how 13th Gate was more worried about following us than attending to someone's ambulance-worthy medical needs. Also... My apologies to the cast for not being as scared as I should've been. Your security cohort ruined your performance by sticking out and being ridiculous. read more

I was really disappointed!It was ok not scary at all you hardly ever heard anyone scream. The set was amazing. You are rushed though so you miss a lot. The group in front of us was maybe a minute ahead so when we passed the scare didn't reset. If you want to be scared go elsewhere. This was my first time and I will not return. read more

Outstanding job. Pricey but worth it. We did the VIP pass because we drove from out of town and were not sure about the lines, still worth it. The initial effects were grand. The construction was well done and the characters did well. I think it is a must see. read more

We went to 13th Gate and Necropolis and both were really fun! I think it was worth the money to buy a ticket to both. We got there early, which I'd recommend, because it the line had tripled within 10 minutes of us getting there. We were lead in on time, but I was a bit disappointed that we still had to wait over half an hour for the night to start. The start of the 13th Gate is insanely scary. I almost shat myself in the elevator - even though I had a strong inkling as to what was going to happen. They really throw the fear at you in the first half of the journey. It was so, so well done. The rooms are strongly detailed and you walk through such a wide variety of horror-themed environs. I really liked that. However, I do think that it somewhat fizzles out nearer the end. My biggest regret was not paying more attention because I was too scared to look actors in the eye or linger in the same room for too long. There is so much to appreciate about the effort they have gone through to design and implement the house. The absolute BIGGEST negative is parking. It's a bit of a pain when you don't know the area or know where you can and can't park for free. I know they were towing whilst we were there. It would be nice if Midnight Productions could get hold of the parking lot across the street and let people park for free even if it is only with ticket purchase and validation saying you must leave withing 5/10 minutes of exiting the last activity you have paid for. The people in front of us also had their child with them who was probably under 6. I think that this kind of thing would truly damage a child. No matter how funny or cool you want you kid to be, it's probably best to leave them with a babysitter. read more

While the thirteenth gate is an interesting haunted house, the lines to get in (even on weeknights) are extremely long and stop arbitrarily. While this is an event that often attracts much popularity to the Greater Baton Rouge Area, I feel this event is not worth it given the long lines and the price. I feel there are much better events in the area that are more worthwhile. This is an overrated attraction that is not worth it. read more

This haunted house is a scam from the start. We arrived an hour early before it opened to reduce wait time and still waited over 3 hours. During the entire wait people were allowed to smoke and vape. Bathrooms were a disgrace. It was complete chaos with no crowd control. read more
