It was cute. Very short experience...maybe 15 minutes for $40+ so I don't really think it was worth the money, especially after waiting an hour in line. The sets were nice and detailed but the sound was subpar. Even with a microphone it was difficult to understand the lobby actor and with the TV going off inside the parlor the curator/explorer guy was hard to hear also. I really wanted to enjoy the experience. It just seemed really cool to walk through an actual haunted space and had live actors jumping out at you. There was a chance to experience something paranormal. But factoring in the long waits, prices, false advertising, etc...The Mortuary didn't live up to many of our expectations. Let's start with the tickets and wait times. Tickets are purchased for specific time slots and the website even says that they implemented this so people wouldn't have to wait up to two hours. Unfortunately, that's exactly how long the line was when we arrived. And then there's a worker walking up and down the line promoting sales of the VIP ticket to skip the line. That just didn't sit well considering the website advertises time slot tickets having no wait. It just felt like they were trying to milk as much out of it as possible, which they probably were. So because we didn't factor in the two hour wait time into our schedule, we decided to just purchase the VIP tickets and eat the cost. Right before entering, there's a couple of workers who explain the rules while the time is counting down for the next group to enter. It's nice that they try to add a gap between each group so you experience everything as is. I've always disliked amusement parks where they just let a continuous stream of people enter and then you see where the live actors are hiding in front of you. Without giving much away, the beginning was pretty scary because I didn't know what to expect. There are plenty of dark hallways and corners. But as we went through the house, many of the rooms had loud music and overdone decorations. It just took away from the appeal that the place was actually haunted. The jump scares were good though, I'll give them that. Overall, it was a fun 20 minutes but mostly disappointed by all the reasons listed above. They host a version where it's completely blacked out and you walk through with a flashlight and that sounds really interesting. But I'm not sure I'd recommend this attraction to anyone unless they fix their time slot ticket system. read more

After buying tickets and reading up on this place online, I started to get pretty nervous after seeing the building used to be a real mortuary, and supposedly has real ghosts. I guess I set my expectations too high, as I ended up being a little disappointed with the experience. Part of what made me so scared going in what the idea that this place could really be haunted given its past. Going through the house though, it felt very commercialized and just felt like a longer version of the smaller haunted houses/zones at Universal's Horror Nights. I do think the actors did a good job avoiding the braver people in the front and instead trying to scare those in the middle of the group, or sneaking up on those at the end. The whole "multi-floor" experience didn't really add much in my opinion. The stairwell areas were brightly lit with no decorations, and regularly-dressed staff members rather than actors for obvious safety reasons. This was probably more just a result of having to build the experience around the building's existing layout. The building is also surrounded by a small cemetery, but it just felt weird to me seeing the tombs right next to a commercialized haunted house with the long rowdy lines, blasting music, and animatronics. The line and ticketing system could use some work. They advertise online that they use a virtual queue line system now, so "there will no longer be long 2 hour waits standing in lines." They supposedly limit the number of tickets sold for each time slot, and the time slots correspond to when you should get in line. However when we arrived during our designated time, there was an extremely long line and we were told the estimated wait time would be about 1.5-2 hours. We ended up paying extra to upgrade to VIP to skip the line since we hadn't planned for such a long wait given what they said on their website. The virtual queue time slots sound like a good idea in theory, but the reality was there didn't seem to be anyone enforcing these time slots, and people probably could've purchased tickets for a different time slot and just hopped in line whenever. Overall, nothing super special and just your typical haunted house experience in my opinion. The experience itself is relatively short and may be worth it if you come on a weeknight with no crowd, but on a weekend with long lines I would say it's better to just skip this. read more

It mightve been over in 30 minutes, but ages later im still reeling and feeling from it. Set in an actual funeral home with body preparation on site, and a real NOLA raised cemetery outback, this a truly epic haunted house. You go up and down and up and down through the funeral home until you reach the basement, i wont spoil it, but all is not what it seems. Let me start by saying... I am TERRIFIED of haunted houses...& this one adds that level of "actually" being haunted! Built in the 1800s and used as an actual mortuary for years, and situated next to a cemetery, this place adds that extra fear factor. With that, I absolutely LOVES the mortuary. It was incredible !! I was scared, it's long, the actors are COMPLETELY devoted to the act, and the decorations were out of this world. You go up & down 3 floors and in the basement.... The inside is very well set. Lots of cool animatronics, sets, and solid number of scare actors. The issue is going in with such a large group is not scary. You are able to see the people in front of you being scared. Also, I had a group in front that screamed at everything so the actors focused on them. Maybe it not scary at all. Okay I'm going to give an extremely honest review, but I'm ALSO going to tell you what to do if you'd like to make the most of this experience! For clarity: my group did the 2021 theme: INFERNO, A journey to hell. I, personally, didn't find the Mortuary that scary. I am an easily frightened person who loves the occasional adrenaline rush, but what scares me more than anything is ~atmosphere~. Eeriness. A creeping sense of dread. I've seen haunted houses nail this, but the Mortuary is less focused on this element. They are more in to loud noises and jumpscares, which definitely does the trick for some people! If you're one of those people it's in your best interest to be THE FIRST person in line, or approximately 5 people after that, or at the very end. Why? This gives time for the "scares" to reset. I was 3rd in line, and clearly saw the people in front of me get frightened by the jump scares. Some of the jumps waited for me to pass, but in those moments I was already on guard since I had just seen someone else get startled. If you want to really feel the rush, try to be the first person in your party. The second issue is that actor quality greatly varied. Some folks were IN the roles: and they were great. Even if I wasn't particularly frightened by them, they made the atmosphere so much more believable, and the experience more enjoyable. Others...not so much. Actors who don't commit can kill the vibe instantly. Lastly I'll tell you my favorite part of the experience as well as a warning. There is a portion of this year's scare that occurs 100% in the dark. This was my favorite bit. The sense of dread as you're blindly feeling the space in front of you, not sure what you'll touch or where you're going at all, is great. However it's definitely an accessibility issue for some folks, so be warned! Lastly be sure that you're capable of walking on stair cases! Went for Halloween-y during this pandemic. Located in the heart of mid-city this site has off street parking as well as a mini parking lot. I would for sure try and find street parking. This year they had allotted times for ticketed purchases and the wait wasn't long. They provided signs and guidelines as to where to stand and how far everyone should be apart. This year they made it interactive and let us guests hunt down the zombies. There were clear instructions on how to hunt down the zombies, how to clear the site and how to proceed. It took us about 30-45mins to complete the whole house and we exited through the basement. I love the fact that they made it Covid friendly and changed it so patrons could still feel the Halloween spirit. 10/10 would come back! read more

This was the best Laser Tag Haunted House ever! You heard me right. Laser tag in a haunted . The mortuary converted an old asylum into a haunted house for both Halloween and Christmas. We went to the Christmas one to shoot evil elves and Krampus. Soooo much fun!! Characters would jump out and you would have to shoot their collars. We did not kill Krampus but pretty sure his collar was blocked lol Everyone was in character and at the end the team was super nice and delighted to hear we had a great time. Worst haunted house I've ever been to. Hour and a half wait, they put you in with 5 of 6 other groups of random people at the same time. Haunted house etiquette 101. The whole thing is over in 5 minutes. Complete money grab. Save your money, go to New Orleans Nightmare. I thought it would be fun to take the kids here. It wasn't, it was disappointing. The actors did a good job but it wasn't as impressive or as long or as scary as 13th gate. They do everything inside a house in new orleans so there are a lot of loops and turns. read more

I REALLY loved this year's visit! It's their anniversary, so it's a very cool combination of their scariest scenes from the past ten years. We went early to beat the crowds, but being smart and buying our tix online and going back again Halloween weekend. The best part of it was, they do NOT touch you and no grabby, satanic stuff like some of the other haunted houses in town. It's suitable for even smaller well-behaved children (if they can hack it) that is. The special effects, lighting and animatronics were totally cool and the costumes looked really professional. I can tell the actors are really into their characters, which make it believable. I'm a horror film fan and can honestly say they "got me" pretty good in there when I thought I was "on my game." The staff and security is nice, professional and really on the ball. They managed the huge crowds with no problem. I didn't feel like I was in a "cattle call." First time here was in '09. Second time here was last night and it is definitely not worth the price of admission ($25). There won't be a third time. I was hoping for bigger and better things than my visit two yrs ago. Nope. It looks much better and intriguing from the outside than what actually takes place inside. Did my first Mystère escape room with a group of friends and it was definitely one for the books! They would usually only allow a party of 12 people in a room, but they were able to accommodate an extra person with us. With as many people as we had, we all did the Ghost room and failed miserably. We made it to the 3rd room, but learned there was a 4th room and also learned that it was definitely the hardest room in the building. The building is well decorated and seems to fit all the themes set to all the rooms. Any experience with riddles would help tremendously throughout your experience. If you get stuck on a certain thing for a long period of time, they give you a clue to help lead you into the right track. I'm definitely going to find myself back here to solve that ghost room and try out the others in the future!. read more

I loved the year when they did circ du fear. I never screamed and got genially frightened as much as then but tonight....... we just left and I wish I could get my $30 back. First they crammed about 20 people in at a time and we ended up in the back/middle of the group. The front got jump scares and it didn't effect us by time we got to that point or the people behind us got the scare and we missed it. I waited all year for this. The actors weren't enthusiastic at all except for 2-3. I am a serious horror fan and this experience almost brought me to tears not because of fear but from disappointment. read more

If their fake ghosts don't scare you, then maybe their real ones will! The Mortuary is verified as actually haunted by the ISPR (International Society of Paranormal Research) as seen on TV. We had SUCH a great time at the Pirate's Cove Escape Room!!!!!!!!! We went with a bachelorette party, the whole process from booking (done online and in advance) to getting out of the room (woohooo we did it!!) was fun, easy (the booking part), challenging (the escaping part), and an AMAZING way for our party to work together and get to know each other. I could not be happier with our experience at the Mortuary Escape Rooms!!!!!! It is definitely worth the $$ and a great experience for all! I went with a medium sized group to try out the Zombie Escape room. The room is very well done and the Zombie plays the part extremely well. The clues are attainable, but still fairly challenging. The room is much smaller than I anticipated, especially for a max of 12 people. For our group, that included being combined with another moderately sized group and maxing out the capacity. It was VERY close quarters to work in and also VERY hot. It was still a very fun and enjoyable experience. The staff is wonderful and friendly. They make sure you have what you need for the game. Every aspect of the game is incredibly well thought out. I would give another room here a try! read more

Recently I was part of hosting an event at The Haunted Mortuary. Rarely is there a venue were the entire staff exceed their obligations to make an evening a raging success. Manager Ben Hulin and his on site staff, Lance, J.C., in house DJ Troy, and John who flew in to tech for the night from Vegas absolutely ROCKED! These guys were the BEST people to work with and I would highly recommend this venue to anyone wanting to hold an event that will stay in the memories of those attending. On top of the superior staff service the random sensory overload of the decor and themed spaces within The Haunted Mortuary sets the stage for a very unique special happening. The house sound system is by far one of the best in any setting far exceeding our needs, and we did utilize it, and equalling that of any major club you would find around the globe. I will be back if only to visit with everyone at the facility as I now feel I have made new friends. read more

I loved this place! My group did the Serial Killers lair (10 people) and we escaped it! We did get a few hints though, which were clever and helpful. As this was my first escape room, I don't have anything to compare it to, but honestly the props and decor were pretty realistic. It definitely was scary, but not terrifying. I almost wish it was a bit harder and even a little bit more frightening! (The Serial Killer's lair is the 2nd most challenging room, with the most challenging being the Ghost Lab.) Overall, I'm very impressed and would recommend it to anyone. Not to mention the place is next to a cemetery and is actually supposed to be haunted. Well, being from Florida and having access to Halloween horror nights and howl O scream at the major theme parks every year I'll be the first to tell you the mortuary absolutely measures up to both. I went on Friday night and the password was "cyborg" granting my party $15 admission. The house is large, the costumes and props are great and the scares are very good. My girlfriend and brother really enjoyed the mortuary and were very happy with the experience and would do it again. The house is much longer than any avg house in universal studios and close but not better than the "alone " House at busch gardens. However these parks run over $100 each easily per person . It's a little tricky to review the Mortuary without giving anything away, but I will do my best. The Mortuary is a very cool place to go for a Halloween scare. It is a walking tour through a former mortuary, and there is a cemetary on sight. As it was the season, and it is New Orleans, my party toured the Mortuary in costume. A word to the wise: Do NOT wear anything fragile, breakable, or larger than life. The space can get tricky to maneuver. Also, leave your masks in the car. Actually, I am not sure that masks are even allowed. Definitely check with ticketing or management if you plan to come in costume. Everyone in my group had a VIP Fast Pass from the website and we were first to take the tour! It was well worth the extra $10 to skip the line. This was my first haunted house, well, haunted mortuary, tour. It was bizarre, gross, fun, creepy and scary. I had laryngitis for 2 days from all the screaming! Lol... I want to go again! read more

I've been wanting to go to this place for years. I guess you can call me a ghost enthusiast. This year, I finally found some willing participants. The theme however, zombies. Hey, why not? Aren't zombies all the rage these days? So I gathered up some fellow Walking Dead fans and off we went. It was last Saturday (weekend before Halloween). We expected long lines so we splurged for the VIP SKIP THE LINE option (purchased online). Got there at 6:30. Was supposed to open doors at 7:00. Doors didn't open till 7:30. We were out by 8:00. So roughly 30 minutes, maybe less since we didn't get through the door till right after 7:30. Now the fun part of this review. First they allow about 8 people in a room that looks like a parlor. A man dressed in army type garb with a rifle yells at you to keep away from the zombies. Yeah ok, will do. You climb up lots of stairs and down lots of stairs. Uneven floors really play with your mind. Lots of strobes and tight spaces. Claustrophobes beware. I'm one of them but those moments were short lived and manageable. Some moments were too dark to see where you were going. That's when it's important to grab onto the person in front of you. You'll find yourself shuffling more than walking. Another cleaver way they play on the claustrophobes is the thick, black plastic-like paper blown by fans in both direction so you have to push your way through as it completely engulfs your body. Sounds scary? I haven't even gotten to the zombies. They come at you at the most unexpected times. No touching. They made me jump, scream and laugh.....at myself. Those creatures aren't funny. Hanging body bags and heads in some places. Some I didn't know were real until they were upon me. Amazing! Loved it! Can't wait for next year. Well worth the money spent. read more

Wasn't too scary, most of the scary parts are just when they try and work you up and trick you into thinking that it's something it's not... There is a section on the tour where there are inflatable dark walls that you have to push/feel your way through. You walk single file for the entire tour, actors never touch you, but do a very good job at getting in your face. There are different levels of the building that you go on, they have workers with flashlights that help make sure you safely get your way up and down any stairs (about two sets of stairs in different sections of the tour). At one point you are crossing a minor bridge that easily shakes--but there are handles every now and then. Very graphic with TONS of blood and guts! Would not recommend for children. Tickets are $25, and for the experience it is definitely worth it! 100% better than a school haunted house. Our tour lasted about 10-15 minutes. One thing that I REALLY liked was the fact that there are tons and tons of security guards, police man, guards and patrol people with radios that keep everything in check! :) I felt 100% safe. If you are big into scary, then this would be a 7 on the scale of 1-10... If you're a little bit on the scaredy cat side, then this would be a 9 out of a 10! :) really fun. Do expect a wait in line. We waited approximately 25-30 minutes before getting into the building. read more

Was pretty excited about visiting this place. Heard a commercial for it and couldn't get here fast enough. The whole haunted mortuary thing is kinda creepy just by definition. However, the rest of it is not so creepy. It's just a bunch of stuff laying around and in cases with a note as to why it is thought to be haunted. Most of it has been donated - a lot of dolls. The most interesting part was photos that appear to have ghosts in them. Downstairs is just a lame haunted house. There is a seance room, also hokey. There was a part where I was really hoping to be freaked out... there is a room haunted by a ghost named Marie. The tour guide said that occasionally a visitor will smell perfume or be overcome with sadness/moved to tears and each report is from someone who also named Marie. Well this Marie didn't experience anything, but disappointment. We paid to have a guided tour, but it just really wasn't worth the money. Speaking of -- they charged me twice and they gave me the runaround for a week to get a refund of the overcharge. Don't pay for the guide if you are just overly curious and feel the need to check it out... just look around and be done. Darn shame, too. It really had some potential. Both myself and roommate never received donation papers to look over while waiting...after an hour in the blood line were both told we could not donate bc of out of state tattoos within the year. VIP tickets were amazing - we were in in five minutes. I'd say this is a great haunted house for the no-liability, bring older kids crowd. It's pretty fast (short) for the price but the effects are excellent and the actors are strong. If you're as into haunts as me - you should do this as it's well executed and fun - but it's not going to scare you. There's not enough time in "scenes' to get into it; no interactivity; no puzzles or weird surprise options. If you want a classy haunted house that's not actually scary, more like a Disneyland ride, this is great. The space is amazing and I wish it were still open for non-Halloween tours as it is a real mortuary. This is no Delusion or Alone or whatever - it's kind of the high end of the mass market of haunts. read more

This event felt like a well done home haunt. The building is beautiful. The theme is a fun choice (7 Deadly Sins) however the execution was a little muddy. The event doesn't have a set starting time, so we arrived over an hour before they opened the ticket office and as we waited several people approached us looking for a staff member where there were none to be seen. There were a few neat effects and some beautiful sets, but the actors didn't seem to have quite the same skill set or passion as some of the other haunts I've attended. I think if you live nearby and have the extra time and money you should totally do this haunt. It has really fun moments. read more

We went to the Mortuary for the Zombie Escape room. I am not sure where to start!! The room itself was great. The props were well done, every detail was thought out. It was like being on a movie set! I HIGHLY recommend this room as the live Zombie adds a twist to the escape room - as his chain is loosened up more and more as time goes on. So not only do you attempt to solve the puzzles but also have to dodge a zombie or else sit out for a period of time. The only downside for me was the size of the group. They put 12 of us in the room and that was definitely too many which then made the room very hot. 8 people would be a comfortable number for that size room. Awesome!! This was the best Haunted house I've ever been to. Cool thing is, It's really haunted. Just adds to the ambiance. :) Can't wait to go again!! The only thing that really rattled Me was the bloodmobile parked right outside since I have a serious needle phobia....yikes!! Oh a word of caution!!! Beware of the toilet.
