Just saw their new show, Tales of the Macabre. AMAZING! So much fun, great acting, wonderful drinks, incredible sets, and awesome makeups! The Mortuary never disappoints!

    Welcome to The Mortuary.

It mightve been over in 30 minutes, but ages later im still reeling and feeling from it. Set in an actual funeral home with body preparation on site, and a real NOLA raised cemetery outback, this a truly epic haunted house. You go up and down and up and down through the funeral home until you reach the basement, i wont spoil it, but all is not what it seems. We left the place screaming, crying, and laughing in exaltation. What a wonderful experience. Top two haunted houses ive ever visited.

The inside is very well set. Lots of cool animatronics, sets, and solid number of scare actors. The issue is going in with such a large group is not scary. You are able to see the people in front of you being scared. Also, I had a group in front that screamed at everything so the actors focused on them. Maybe it not scary at all. Would have like a few jump scares. It is spooky being next to the cemetery. Overall cool experience to do once.

Okay I'm going to give an extremely honest review, but I'm ALSO going to tell you what to do if you'd like to make the most of this experience! For clarity: my group did the 2021 theme: INFERNO, A journey to hell. I, personally, didn't find the Mortuary that scary. I am an easily frightened person who loves the occasional adrenaline rush, but what scares me more than anything is ~atmosphere~. Eeriness. A creeping sense of dread. I've seen haunted houses nail this, but the Mortuary is less focused on this element. They are more in to loud noises and jumpscares, which definitely does the trick for some people! If you're one of those people it's in your best interest to be THE FIRST person in line, or approximately 5 people after that, or at the very end. Why? This gives time for the "scares" to reset. I was 3rd in line, and clearly saw the people in front of me get frightened by the jump scares. Some of the jumps waited for me to pass, but in those moments I was already on guard since I had just seen someone else get startled. If you want to really feel the rush, try to be the first person in your party. The second issue is that actor quality greatly varied. Some folks were IN the roles: and they were great. Even if I wasn't particularly frightened by them, they made the atmosphere so much more believable, and the experience more enjoyable. Others...not so much. Actors who don't commit can kill the vibe instantly. Lastly I'll tell you my favorite part of the experience as well as a warning. There is a portion of this year's scare that occurs 100% in the dark. This was my favorite bit. The sense of dread as you're blindly feeling the space in front of you, not sure what you'll touch or where you're going at all, is great. However it's definitely an accessibility issue for some folks, so be warned! Lastly be sure that you're capable of walking on stair cases! And don't worry: nobody will jump out at you while you're on them (this was a concern for me lol)

We went on a Wednesday at 8:30pm. No lines, smooth entry. The employees were friendly and on the inside the team did a great job with their acting/animations. The decor and spooky atmosphere was top notch. It went by quick. I wish it was longer seeing that it was $30 per person. 4/5 stars.

Went for Halloween-y during this pandemic. Located in the heart of mid-city this site has off street parking as well as a mini parking lot. I would for sure try and find street parking. This year they had allotted times for ticketed purchases and the wait wasn't long. They provided signs and guidelines as to where to stand and how far everyone should be apart. This year they made it interactive and let us guests hunt down the zombies. There were clear instructions on how to hunt down the zombies, how to clear the site and how to proceed. It took us about 30-45mins to complete the whole house and we exited through the basement. I love the fact that they made it Covid friendly and changed it so patrons could still feel the Halloween spirit. 10/10 would come back!

This was the best Laser Tag Haunted House ever! You heard me right. Laser tag in a haunted . The mortuary converted an old asylum into a haunted house for both Halloween and Christmas. We went to the Christmas one to shoot evil elves and Krampus. Soooo much fun!! Characters would jump out and you would have to shoot their collars. We did not kill Krampus but pretty sure his collar was blocked lol Everyone was in character and at the end the team was super nice and delighted to hear we had a great time. Well worth the money for a new adventure.

I REALLY loved this year's visit! It's their anniversary, so it's a very cool combination of their scariest scenes from the past ten years.

I REALLY loved this year's visit! It's their anniversary, so it's a very cool combination of their scariest scenes from the past ten years. We went early to beat the crowds, but being smart and buying our tix online and going back again Halloween weekend. The best part of it was, they do NOT touch you and no grabby, satanic stuff like some of the other haunted houses in town. It's suitable for even smaller well-behaved children (if they can hack it) that is. The special effects, lighting and animatronics were totally cool and the costumes looked really professional. I can tell the actors are really into their characters, which make it believable. I'm a horror film fan and can honestly say they "got me" pretty good in there when I thought I was "on my game." The staff and security is nice, professional and really on the ball. They managed the huge crowds with no problem. I didn't feel like I was in a "cattle call." They kept it interesting with zombies, vampires and ghouls roaming the grounds.

It would be nice if someone did some pest control. We were absolutely ripped apart by fleas or mosquitos or chiggers or something waiting to purchase tickets; which also made the whole annoying process more irritating. Once in line, things were better. There's no kind of entertainment like line actors or even a video screen so dull but, the line moved pretty quickly and we only had about an hour wait. The sets were really well done and the atmosphere was great. The make up was terrible. Several times I was looking at an actor and just thinking 'what is going on with your face'. I know this was opening weekend so maybe they just haven't settled into their roles yet but the acting was also pretty bad. Many seemed to think the best way to scare people was just standing in front of them and screaming. One girl actually said 'help me'. Overall I enjoyed it.

I don't have a lot of experience with haunted houses etc but this was fairly well done from a structural point of view. The buildings and maze and props all well done, actors were fine not great. What I don't like beyond the add-on pricing was the fact we got here as they opened on a slow Tuesday night before just before Halloween. They coral you into different lines depending on the level of ticket you get. The basic entry had only about 50 people in front of us. Even though nobody was in the fast pass lines they didn't send people in efficiently or speedily. They made people wait and what should have take 5-10 minute took 45 min +. No bathroom options once you get inside. If you need to go as I didn't not expecting that wait for so few people you need to back out through the line to the porta potty outside and then swim your wave back through the line which at that point had grown 4x due to their inefficiency . Apparently they are trying to prove a point if you don't spend up to any of the higher price points they WILL make you wait even if there are no fast pass ticket holders and no backup. Once inside it probably only takes about 15-20 minutes to go through. Parking while easy the night we went but unorganized and people were parking behind cars to where they couldn't get out so be mindful how you park. Was it fun? MEH it was ok. Was I scared? Not at all, but got a laugh out of it. Overall it's too expensive, not well organized and punish you if you don't fast pass. I wouldn't return.

We meet up at the Voodoo Lounge, where there is a ticket office in the back room. We didn't live the bar--smelled a little bit like a sewer and the hurricanes were super sweet and kind of weak. But we did have but one get one, so wasn't that upset. The tour was great. We saw some interesting, haunted places and heard the history behind them. We didn't linger too long at any one place. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, although he may have been a tad bit too heavy on the Catholic Church jokes. The tour ended at the LaLaurie house, and our guide shared a story about a little girl on who was recently on his tour who started crying and asked why there were dead people on the balcony. Spooky! I was so intrigued by what he said that I started looking up stories about Delphine LaLaurie and the haunting of the house. When I got home, I even started watching season 3 of American Horror Story, which has the character Delphine LaLaurie (accurate? No. Fun? Yes!). This was a fun way to spend the evening. There was an obnoxiously drunk guy on our tour, and our guide handled him well.

She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.

We're veterans of Lollapalooza Chicago, we were prepared, wearing our worst tennis shoes and let them get destroyed. We will, no doubt, wash them and save them for our next fest. The walk from Uber was a bit longer than we anticipated. It was easy entry through security without bags. The craft beer tent, Brew Dat has good selections for a fest and was covered by a large canopy. Prices were what you expect at a music fest. Staff was super friendly and some were costumed. We waited about 15 minutes for the haunted cemetery. It was not very scary but it was cool. Actors did a good job. Modelo had a cool pavilion with activities. I took advantage of the free face painting. House of Blues was a great area, with music and spicy shrimp po' boys for $9.00. If it were not so muddy we would have looked at the other food options but the rain and mud got old and eating under a tent was a much better option. Bonus points for the cool HOB VooDoo fest bandanas they gave with purchase. Guns N' Roses headlined Friday night, played for 3 hours and surpassed all expectations. Slash is still so very cool. Damn. Bishop Briggs keeps improving. Not sure who was playing in the HOB tent but damn it was a fine sounding high energy performance. Grandson was a fun surprise as was Brandi Carlile. Merch tent had some great stuff, priced as expected. Lines were not bad. I wanted to buy a poster but couldn't bring myself to spend the $$ for something that would likely get soaked in the rain. I would have liked to walk around and see more, but the rain and mud were too much after a while. Getting an Uber out was a cluster but they were trying to keep it somewhat together.

As a huge fanatic of all things Halloween, and following their page on instagram, it was presented that it would be heavily Halloween themed. But it was lack luster. There were of course festival goers dressed up which is fun but they did not put much creativity into decorating it as so. The line-up was good, had a variety of genres, big names and underground names which is appreciated. When I saw one of my top 5 fav bands Modest Mouse, the sound quality was not good. I barely could understand what Brock the lead singer was singing. I have seen them live in the past at the Miami Beach Jackie Gleason theatre and the sound quality was crisp. One of my top annoyances was the unexpected quick sand-like mud that covered about 60% of the park. It was uncomfortable and irritating to constantly maneuver thru not only the mud but the tremendously big crowds, in which the crowd was also a disappointment. I thought everyone would be friendly but not so and immature which I think the all ages welcomed is responsible for this. The layaway option was great even though they tact a $10 fee for it. And enjoying 3 days for just $180 was great but with what was left to the imagination, that is a reasonable price. The wrist band, which is another $9 mandatory fee got mailed to me, and its pretty. And I liked how you can sync your credit card to the bracelet via their app to make paying for drinks and food easy. Variety of food was extensive, there was something for everyone. I tried a caprese crepe and it was nasty! The tomato was watery and it was all I tasted. The pesto had no flavor and the cheese was rubbery. Would I come back to New Orleans? Hell yeah! I fell in love with that beautiful city. Would I return to Voodoo? Absolutely not. And I actually keep forgetting I even went.

Maybe part of the mistake was booking a ghost tour in the French Quarter after dark, but even with that expectation, this experience missed the mark. There were easily a couple hundred people packed between the bar, sidewalk, and parking lot, with no clear direction or organization. Total chaos. There was a long line that I assumed was for drinks, but it turned out to be for wristbands. No signage, no guidance, no communication. About five minutes after our scheduled start time, I was convinced our group had already left. Eventually, someone came out and started calling groups, but it felt completely disorganized. Once the tour finally got going, it became clear this wasn't really about ghost stories, it was more about drinking, joking around, and keeping things light.
