The pizza here was really good. I would definitely get it again. We got the pickled pizza and it really tasted unique. The crust was nice and crispy. I could definitely taste the pickle in there too. We also got the Japanese pancake, which was really good to add a good amount of flavor to it. I was unique from the pizza and it didn't feel like they were reusing different flavors and drinks. We ordered a dirty martini, French 75, and the Jessie Pinkman to start--great cocktails, but the standout was definitely the espresso martini (legit the best in town) we ordered to cap the night. We started with the short rib pizza--delicious and generous for the price, slightly greasier than expected but would order again. We did restaurant week and had the Caesar (tasty but a little overdressed) and the fingerling radish salad. The poached potatoes were really just boiled, and the crispy lardons weren't actually crispy. For mains, we had the mussels (flavorful red sauce, but the mussels could've been fresher) and the sweet pea linguine (delicious sauce, noodles were a bit too al dente and the lardons again weren't crispy). We were hoping for the risotto, but it was unfortunately unavailable. The cheesecake dessert was decent but still partially frozen. Service was a bit slow and disorganized--we were asked if we were ready for dessert before we got our entrees--but they comped us a round of drinks, which we appreciated. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Scranton. My husband spoke of this place for years when we lived in Florida, and now that we are in Scranton, we visit regularly, and I often suggest it to my clients. The service is great and personalized, and the food is consistent and delicious. They are also both willing and creative with dietary restrictions - we enjoyed a plain cauliflower crust in replacement of bread to enjoy with the spinach & artichoke dip. Bonus points for non-alcoholic spirits, and an imperceptible transition in ownership, at least from the consumer side. Thank you for leaving things they way they were. Silly to some, but I would change the coasters. If mentioning the group is necessary, I would suggest the 16th Ward by TFG - I think it currently distracts from the immersive experience of dining in a restaurant, and does little for the marketing of the restaurant itself. read more

The only thing I personally was just ok with was my drink. It is pricey but overall worth it. We ordered a spinach and artichoke dip for the table and it was huge and delicious! Made a reservation here on a Friday night at 6:30pm. Last time we came without a reservation and couldn't be seated. They are super busy but now I can see why. My wife and I went there for dinner, we usually like to sit at the bar to eat. The both of us were standing at the bar waiting for seats that two nice women told us we could have as they were leaving shortly. I ordered two cocktails and while waiting for them to be made a gaunt,emaciated old woman with a gray haired bowl cut hairstyle who seemed to be some sort of hostess or manager told me there is no standing allowed at the bar. After saying that I pointed out to this malnourished sickly looking woman the two well dressed gentleman less than 10 ' away from me who were STANDING AT THE BAR. She mumbled something unintelligible to me and I told her " no problem" we would be leaving without getting our cocktails. We will never return and I will tell everyone who ever mentions or asks about this establishment to stay away if that's how they treat people on their first visit. My wife and I who dine out often will never go there again. This woman is a terrible representation of the establishment and should never be working as a greeter or host with her disposition. read more

Truly incredible place, food and drinks were all fantastic. Apparently tonight was a brand new menu. We had the dumplings appetizer which was delicious, I had the beer muscles which was incredible and my wife had the salmon which was also incredible, for drinks I had one of the best manhattans I've ever had and my wife had the jalapeño cucumber margarita which she greatly enjoyed. Service was fast and friendly and we left satisfied and feeling like we got great value for our money. This is a don't miss of your in the area. While out of town I went to this restaurant. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into a cute bar and grill. I sat at the bar, and Mike was my bartender, and he was great. He made me the best vodka martini. For my meal I ordered the chicken curry dish. When it came it looked delicious but when I tasted it, it was bland. They were so gracious to change the dish. I changed it to the shrimp scampi, and they seasoned it to perfection. The bill was affordable, and I had a pretty decent experience. read more

So tonight was our first night at the 16th Ward. We got lucky and got a two top outside on the street. Beautiful night. As far as staff, the woman who checked us in was wonderful. Our server was very enthusiastic and very pleasant. They happen to have two amazing IPAs on top. Our Portago appetizer was fantastic and the Cubano was amazing. The only negative, and you know it's a somewhat subjective negative, is this place is quite pricey. We shared one appetizer and one Cuban sandwich and we each had a couple of drinks. Two beers and two wines and our check was $100 bucks tipped out. Wonderful place. Loved it but we wouldn't be regulars here simply because it's a pretty expensive night out. read more

Recently went here for the first time, and I definitely enjoyed myself. Had the Soft Pretzel Appetizer and it was amazing how light it actually was. It was not heavy like your typical Bavarian style pretzel. The beer cheese was good, but the mustard nearly blew my sinuses out. Oddly enough, that is not a bad thing .. just should probably come with a warning. I also had the Steak and Frites that was on the menu. Easily one of, if not THE best steak I have ever had. Seasoned perfectly, and complimented well with the super acidic salad and homemade shoestring fries. The only warning I will give with this place is that you better like your food flavorful. There is a fine line between being seasoned perfectly and being over-seasoned, and to me it seems like they are teasing that line. If you can't handle strong bold flavors, then this may not be your cup of tea. read more

My husband is a trained chef. He advises that this one time was the only time we will experience the poor tasting non flavored food with bad service. My take: as we entered, the lady at the door was not welcome and just looked at us until my husband said hello, table for two...I am trained in retail and customer service. Her demeanor, lack of greeting, and non friendly, nonverbal spoke volumes. The place wasn't that busy, but we waited about 7 minutes before anyone came to the table (after Broomhilda seated us) The young man wasn't friendly or conversational. Brought water and said, "Are you ready to order?" Later, I heard another table being greeted with a more friendly tone and a list of specials. wtf??? It was the bartender helping patrons at the table next to us after he watched us not getting service for a while. After the non friendly guy took our order (we declined drinks at that time), it was a few minutes, and a more friendly woman with a smile asked if we wanted drinks. She gave my husband a couple of beer tastings so he could decide. She explained the types of beer and was a refreshing change and contrast to the other 3 employees ... Kudos Matilda for your service. Hopefully, you will go work for an establishment where all the employees make the customers feel welcomed. 2 of the beers were awful (the guy with the golden palate, my husband did not) Grateful for the service and ability to try them before committing. read more

Everyone is talking about 16th ward. So off we go. What a beautiful establishment. Love the look and feel. Service was amazing. Very attentive. This is the place to drink. Many beer choices and different hard alcoholic drinks. My husband and myself are not huge drinkers. I had a black widow. Definitely had vodka!! Now the food. Maybe we made the wrong choice. The menu had a bit of different choices. Not your typical choices. Again, something we aren't used to. We had the pierogis and dumplings as appetizers. They were yummy. The glaze on the dumplings was sweet and luscious. Pierogis were great taste and temperature. I chose the brisket grilled cheese on sourdough. It was good. Sweet and bitter. Balsamic vinegar in brisket. Sweet onions crispy. My fries were cold and greasy. Not good. My husband got the buffalo chicken pizza. Very rich and heavy. The crust was amazing. A bit greasy though. Unable to finish. The dessert was delicious. Can't remember the name of cake but it was dense, a little bit dry. Bananas foster poured over. Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be hot or cold. Trendy, decent atmosphere, and good food. We had the charcuterie board with the works (starts with the cheeses and we added smoked meats and olives). All delicious but I recommend you ask for a side of toasted baguette style bread slices to complement the crackers that the board comes with. We then had the house pizza, very good crust made in house and Cajun chicken pasta dish. All delicious and all pictured. Very pleasant servers, Chrissy and Marc, and the owner, Dmitri, bald man with the distinguished two-tone beard, seems like a nice guy, he also throws hands and will likely come to your table and welcome you. Only bummer is soda is per serving, no free refills for soft drinks. Nonetheless, I do recommend this place if you are looking for a casual pub in Scranton. This restaurant probably makes the best drinks in Scranton. I have yet to try any other location with drinks made as good. Just to set the scene: Finding this location can be tricky as there isn't a huge sign, but it's located near the end of the street with it's name on the window. Nothing super attractive or fancy from the outside. On first glance of the interior, the place looks pretty small. However, there's an upstair seating area with plenty of room. The hostess/servers are nice and the place looks elegant and clean. The hours are reasonable for this area and the time from being seated to eating is nothing unusual. Now back to the food/drinks. The drinks here are amazing. Dark n Stormy is my go to, and they make the best I've tried so far. Other friends have ordered whiskey sours in addition to other mixed drinks, and they all hit the right spot. Even more so, their specialty drinks are all great. Not one has been sent back or left glass full. We would love to know who their head bartender is because sheesh, we'd hire. Regarding the food, this place also has the best Spinach Artichoke dip we've ever tried. Their dip is a perfect blend of creamy cheese, fresh veggies and flavorful seasoning. If you've never been a fan of this dip, I highly suggest giving it a try. You won't be disappointed. The other appetizers are good too, but aren't our favs and nothing crazy to share. As for the other dishes, they don't have a huge selection here. The dishes are also pretty small (perfect if you're not trying to stuff yourself). However, what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. The dishes are crafted to perfection - great taste and all fresh. Makes getting an appetizer a great compliment if you want to eat swell. Lastly, the desserts are tasty too. Nothing fancy here. Just classic desserts that can fill any leftover room in that belly. Overall, this place has been our go for drinks and dip since we discovered it. Highly recommend. Just be careful - the pricing is reasonable but can definitely rack up if you enjoy one too many drinks ;) read more

We absolutely love this place. If you're going during the normal dinner time it's best to make a reservation. Their mixed drinks are amazing and the food is delicious and creative. I love their raw sprout salad with pistachios. It's soooo good. The last time we went we spent $93.86 before tip for four mixed drinks, two beers, a salad and a pizza. Service is very attentive and it seems as thought everyone helps each other out at the restaurant so you may have multiple servers check on your table. It's a very nice atmosphere. read more

The cocktails were exceptionally good-- the best we had in the area by far! The service was attentive. We were sorry we didn't get to try more of their menu as it all looked and sounded great. This place seems to be owned and operated by people who take great pride in serving fine adult beverages-- we could not have been more please! :). The inside is also very classy but it doesn't feel too formal. Definitely still a place to have fun. We would recommend it to anyone going to Scranton. read more

This is a really cool spot and definitely not something I would expect to see in Scranton, which is a compliment! The bars are made of thick, carved wood and if they're not actually old, they did a good job of making them look old. My friend brought me here since he wanted to show me the spot and have me try some of their cocktails. We were seated upstairs in a cozy spot close to the front of the building- would have loved to sit at one of tables closest to the windows as you get a view of the outside and the inside. My party started with cocktails and I ordered the Texas Sun which sounded delicious. However, one star gets knocked off because I don't LOVE mezcal so I asked our server if they could make it with blanco instead to which she told me that it was pre-mixed so they couldn't do that. I want my cocktails to be made fresh so I was disappointed to hear it was pre-made BUT I ordered it anyway (sans mezcal floater on top) and true to our server's word, it was a mild mezcal they use in the mix and I really enjoyed the drink. On my second round I went with the french 75- not sure if that was fresh or pre-made but it was also delicious. They seem to have an extensive list of drinks, from a rotating & impressive beer menu a wide variety of cocktails and wine. We were having dinner elsewhere so only had time (and appetites) for appetizers but we tried the dumplings and the spinach and artichoke dip. We loved the dip, thought it was fantastic, but my other star gets taken off for the dumplings which were mediocre and hardly had any flavor... something seemed to be missing. I definitely want to come back and try more of their food- I'm wondering if we just got the dumplings on an off night. We arrived early, 4:45, the restaurant was empty, but were told no tables were available, we sat at the bar and were asked to move, though 2 other people, a man and woman, sat after the bar after we. They were waiting on first. At that point we decided to leave. I will not go back and I will share this experience with everyone. Back for more! We were here on Saturday evening. First I made a reservation for 5:30pm. We had forgot that we needed to attend to a matter that wouldn't get us there for 5:30. I called the day of and asked if they could accommodate us at 6:00 pm instead. They were great. They said no problem but they had many reservations after 7. The person on the other end told me he'd call me back to try and shuffle things so we wouldn't be rushed out. I told him that it was fine as we could sit at the bar instead of holding a reservation up because it was in fact my mistake for making the reservation at 5:30 in the first place. He insisted on calling me back to help us out. He followed through and said that there was a cancellation and we would have the table as long as we wanted!!! We walked in and were whisked over to our table. We normally sit at the bar because I love watching the staff at work. They are excellent. So we ordered the cheese board with charcuterie. We've had it before and we keep forgetting how BIG it is. They give you 4 wedges of cheese. I mean these are big wedges. The meats are incredible. They either smoke the meats there or they buy them this way. Whatever they do.....fantastic. The board is accompanied with crackers, mustard, honey, and grapes. The only thing is I wish they tell you what the cheeses are. I guess I can also use my mouth and ask. lol. So we ordered that to start. Then right when our waiter brought it to the table we added a pizza and the butter bean hummus. I would say that it was easily less than 10 mins and the pizza and hummus was brought to the table. We had barely touched the charcuterie! This was not normal. One of the bartenders made his way over and introduced himself as the owner. I recognized the voice as the person I was on the phone with earlier helping with our reservations. He apologized that our 2 other dishes were brought out so quickly. He offered to buy us a round of drinks. I stated that was not necessary as it was fine. We understand stuff happens. People are human. But he insisted. So I was going to have my usual old fashioned. Dimitri asked if I ever had their Manhattans to which I responded that I haven't. He says, "let me make you one. Ours is different." And it was excellent. Very close to an old fashioned but different. This place will see us many many many many more times. This is becoming one of our favorites in the area. I do highly recommend reservations. We were here at 6pm and every table and all the seats at the bar were filled. Rarely have we had an issue getting a seat at the bar(reservations not needed)but tonight was different. I don't know if something was going on downtown or people are catching on about this place. Word of mouth and social media make it harder to get in but is great for them. Then asked if we could get two beers and sit outside where there were 5 open tables and he said no I'm not sure when people might show up and there were other open tables inside as well.
