Had seating for our group of 8 and service was average. Food had a good price to portion. Appetizers were good and easy to share with a large group. We had the crawfish, clams and , pretzels all cooked perfectly and tasted very good. The entrees were mainly steaks and seafood with a small selection of both. There a lot of specials and they are always changing. Today i got the rainbow trout stuffed with crab dressing. It was cooked to perfection and it was a huge portion that came with vegetables and rice, it tasted amazing and was very rich in flavor. All 8 of us really enjoyed our food and plan to come back. What an ordeal! My good buddy and I were looking forward to sitting at the bar for a drink and an order of raw Oysters. I had been there a few weeks before and greatly enjoyed them. On the way we called to see that if they indeed had Oysters but were surprised with the responce asking if we had reservations. Although we told her we would sit at the bar, she all but said NOT TO COME, because there was no room. This is a place that has most of there early business from the Nick Stoner Golf Course, as it is called the 19th Hole. Knowing this we pressed on as it was only a little after 5 PM and expected that room would open up when the golfers left. And we were right. Upon sitting, there was a definite air of indifference from the bartender , Trystan. She apparently was the same one my friend had spoken to on the phone. (She obviously did not wish to work for her pay, so the fewer people she had to serve the better for her.) After 20 or 30 minutes she finally took our orders, a gin and tonic for me, tonic for him, and our anticipated two dozen raw Oysters. After asking if we wanted them fried or raw, she went on to say that the kitchen was very busy so, if we wanted anything else we should also order it then, but only from the appetizer menu, (of which there were several items not available.) Strange. Therefore we also ordered a basket of homemade potato chips and the bacon wrapped scallops (both of which were pretty good, by the way, except the chips needed salt). Much as I was afraid of, both the chips and Scallops came in a few minutes. But no Oysters. In fact a server came out to the bartender shortly later to tell her not to order Oysters from the bar. Parties on our left and right were served their Oysters, but we waited. An hour later I asked what happened to our order. She went back to the kitchen and returned with "our" Oysters that were swimming in melted ice, but worse, they were covered with a minuet sauce (vinegar and shallots), when we objected she said that's how the kitchen made it and we should have known. Huh, when was that told us, I said to her. I then told her to take these back and deliver what we ordered. She became very defensive AND abusive saying, she doesn't take orders from a "GrandPa" and further used every four letter expletive from the gutter to describe just how she felt. I asked to see the Owner and she brought over "her lawyer friend" instead. We paid for what we ate and drank and left. She told us "don't come back". Not likely, but then again I may want Oysters again. read more

We made the drive up to listen to some music and have some of the seafood they have been advertising on social media for weeks. We got there and the weather was beautiful. Low 80's. A touch humid but we can deal. We ask if we can sit anywhere and the waitress says "sure, are you planning on ordering food ? I don't think we are taking any more orders". She goes in the kitchen and sure enough, they aren't taking any more orders. This at 2:30. Not at 10 and they are trying to close the kitchen. In the middle of the afternoon. The waitress did say we could drink, but we sat around for over 30 minutes listening to the band warm up and she never came back. This wasn't our first experience here. We were coming here several times a summer for a few years then their prices went through the roof. My recommendation ? Go someplace else !!!! ANYPLACE ELSE !!!!! There's a couple other good places up that way. And a couple in Amsterdam and Gloversville. And I'm only giving even one star because it's required by Yelp. read more

I've been coming to this area every summer since I was a kid and Nick Stoner's has always been here. The restaurant part has undergone changes over time but all seven of us headed over for dinner this summer and it was DELICIOUS. It was Mexican night so in addition to their regular menu, they featured some tacos (street style with cilantro, onions, and a corn tortilla), nachos, and chimichangas. My brother's girlfriend got a meatless chimichanga and it was gigantic and amazing. We also got wings, bbq chicken and pork sandwiches, quesadillas etc. quite a bit of variety, all very tasty. We asked about a side of jalapeños for some spice and instead the chef brought out a salsa verde with habanero that certainly did the trick. He came out later to see how we liked everything too, which I've always thought is a nice touch. Arrived last night at 8:45. Sat at the bar and was asked if we were there for dinner. We said yes. Bartender said they've stopped serving dinner because the kitchen was too hot. We were disappointed because if you know the area, there aren't many choices. And it was almost 9pm. We ordered drinks and about 5 minutes later, as we were saying we couldn't believe we couldn't get dinner and we didn't know what we were going to do, this waitress who was dripping with sweat walked up to us and started screaming that we should go into the kitchen to see how hot it was and that someone could die working in those conditions. I told her we came there for dinner and we don't have too many options in this area. She said there were tons of places up and down the road where we could eat. Really? At 9pm near Caroga Lake?!? First of all, we were standing by ourselves at the bar having a conversation and she walked by and heard it. You should not stop and scream at people in the condition you were in. Secondly, you run a restaurant. With a kitchen. Maybe they need to improve their ventilation. They definitely need to improve On their staff. You lost 4 locals business last night. Thanks to the bartender who offered us the salad bar after the sweat dripping waitress was finished venting about her shitty job, but we declined. We also declined to speak when she was 2 feet from us yelling. This is not our first time here. We've eaten there plenty. Last time we were there we ordered a medium rare steak that came out blue...three times. We finally just boxed it up and put it on the grill at home. They also never brought us an appetizer then charged us for it. Never wrote a review or complained. Not that big of a deal. But to have an employee personally attack you in your face, not acceptable. All the staff is family so I'm sure she was not spoke to about her behavior. If I did that when I was a waitress, I'd be escorted out of the place. Instead, her coworkers stood there dumbfounded. The male bartender gets a 5 star review, by the way. We usually eat at the bar and he has always always been nothing but pleasant and professional. read more

Great food, music and casual atmosphere

The quality of the food and service at The 19th Hole has varied over the years along with changes in management. The current owners, Rebecca and Charlie, have done impressive work renovating the inside, building the best on-tap craft beer selection within 50 miles, and serving great food. The sauteed scallops I had for dinner last night was probably the best meal I have had at any Caroga Lake restaurant. My brother's open-faced roast beef had oodles of fresh mushrooms and onion and a delicious sauce. While only open for a week and still working on their menu and kitchen expansion, their vision and passion for excellence will likely lead this restaurant to be a true destination dining experience and earn them many 5 star reviews. Rebecca has a depth of knowledge of high-end restaurant operations and great instincts, and Charlie is one heckuva fine chef. I am looking forward to the upgraded wine list, on which they are currently working, and to many more fine meals there. The only constructive suggestion I would have is to upgrade their bread offering. The steamed-looking rolls they served last night are certainly no worse than any restaurant in the nearby cities, but I know they can do better. read more

Five Stars not in the Michelin Guide sense of haute cuisine, but in the sense of being one of the very best of its genre, and an absurd value. This is an old-fashioned roadhouse -- we're popcorn maker by the entrance door, picnic tables outside, middle-of-nowhere kind of place. It's beside a golf-course and picture-perfect lake (Caroga) in the middle of nowhere. To me, what makes the difference is the Barbecue. Co-proprietor Paul Kennedy slows cooks brisket, pulled pork and chicken in his own rubs and sauces, and starts serving at 6 until folks stop coming in. And the prices are ridiculously cheap coming from a New York City perspective. I can pay three times as much at Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem, wait five times as long and have something half as good. If your summer tour is taking you east to Saratoga, or north to the Finger Lakes and High Adirondack Peaks, or west to Cooperstown and whatever is else out west; it's a gem of a stopping place. read more

This was mine and my families first time being there and most likely last. When we walked in and asked the hostess for a table she replied, "eh it's kind of busy tonight soo", then walked to see if there were any open tables, she seemed panicky. We waited and she came back to say she just had to clean off a table. We were seated at a little before 7 pm. When our waitress came over to the table she asked what we wanted to drink , I asked if there was a cocktail menu and she was very confused...walked away to find an answer for us. But she brought back a co worker to have the co worker ask us what again...so I repeated myself and said cocktail menu. Again , they were confused. So We gave up and ordered one of their "special drinks" which they didn't even know there was. We ordered our apps at 7:10, did not get them for 20 minutes, which the calamari and mozzarella sticks were undercooked, marina was cold and flavorless. We ordered our entrees when the apps arrived, at 7:30. We did use the salad bar which was an ordeal in itself, items not labeled properly ? Plates dirty, bad lettuce. We did not get our entrees until 8:45.....OVER AN HOUR. Not to mention, the table next to us sat after us and not only got their entrees before us, but their server informed them there would be an hour wait for food when they sat down...no one told us that otherwise we wouldn't have ordered. After waiting an hour I had told the server our frustrations and At that point we all waited so long we were upset and lost our appetites. We asked for the food to go and then waitress said it would STILL be another 10 minutes.... we got the food to go and they comped our drinks... no one came over to apologize other than the waitress and we understand it is not on her...no manager or chef took responsibility and we felt like being the family environment it is, that should be a priority . We were upset, tired of waiting, and mortified that it in fact was not that busy and should not have taken over an hour to make our entrees considering 2 out of the 4 take maybe 10 mins tops to cook, so we are assuming they have one burner in the back?... not to mention we got home with our to go food, and they messed up all the sides, gave us corn instead of extra broccoli and never got the salted potatoes. I can say one steak out of two was good, the other was not cooked to desired temp and end cut full of fat. Cajun shrimp pasta had enough butter to put me in cardiac arrest. We didn't even get waters until a hour into us waiting for our entrees....Extremely disappointed and confused why no one knew what was going on... read more
