Love this local place. Good vibes, cheap drinks, and shuffleboard. Tip the bartenders generously and make some friends while there.

My wife and I were in town on vacation, and we were looking for a restaurant that had some vegan options. I messaged the restaurant via their Facebook page to ask if they had anything vegan on the menu. I received this response: "Hi there! We can definitely accommodate! The ramen is vegan, but we are tweaking the menu that is posted online so there may be several more options than not posted. But, we can also create something special on the fly! Thanks so much for coming in!" As it turns out, though, the curry ramen was made with chicken stock, according to our waitress. She went to talk to the chef to see if he could recommend anything. My wife and I could hear their conversation, and we clearly heard the chef say, "I got nothing for them". Really? A chef in a nice restaurant couldn't come up with anything vegan, not even some pasta with marinara or a quick stir-fry? My wife and I were there early, right around 5:00 PM, and there was literally no one else in the restaurant, so it's not like the kitchen was busy. Surely the chef could have whipped-up something vegan if he wanted to. The waitress was very nice and quite apologetic. My wife and I ordered drinks and then went down the street to another restaurant that had two vegan options on the menu. I'm giving barVino two stars just because the waitress was really nice to us, and it wasn't her fault.

We like tapas style restaurants as we're light eaters and you can try many different dishes if you choose. We shared the PEI mussels in white wine sauce and the Fried Polenta and both were very good. They have a good selection of beers to choose from if you're not a wine drinker. I would come here again when in the area.

My family and I are staying on Schroon Lake and we were looking for a nice place to have dinner…read more The restaurant is very nice inside and has an awesome view of the Adirondack mountains behind it. The waiter was very friendly, attentive, and personable. Although the menu is very limited, all seven in our party found something appealing to order. The appetizers and dinners arrived in a timely manner. The food was absolutely delicious. The thick cut, locally sourced pork chops were amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The prices aren't cheap, but the great food, drink, staff and atmosphere made it worth it!

For the days they aren't open for lunch they have a sandwich bar + paper bags so you can take lunch with you. It's good quality sandwich stuff too - ham , turkey , roast beef; Cheddar , American ; 3 different types of breads. And condiments! Dinner reservations should be made in advance if you want to eat in the 5-6 range. We were here often since it was easier. We enjoyed our meals. Likely since it was close to Labor Day their kitchen staff was dwindling (and not sure Covid has done to their restaurant staff experience in general) so patience is everything. When we visited there was one cook. Their burgers and salads and soups and fries and kids meals are all very good. They have great beer / wine selections. There's no point to drive an hour away to eat every night when you have a great place right there. But definitely don't forget to make reservations :)

The worst food my family has ever had as a collective experience…read more Came here during a trip to Long Lake. This place has the best ratings for local restaurants and the Long Lake hotel was quite expensive. Wish we would have went there. Ordered a pound of wings for appetizer for table. Eating them along made me wish I didn't come. All the bones of the chicken broke as we ate them, and they were rubbery as hell. Pretty sure they were cooked from frozen, and they tasted disgusting. I got the full rack of ribs. They were OK flavor wise, but the meat was tough and had to be pulled from the bone because it wasn't soft. The "sauce" that came with it was gross. My older son ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese. He said it was disgusting and could barely finish it. He said it tasted old and microwaved. My youngest got the kid's pasta. The sauce tasted like straight up vodka and was weirdly watery. He enjoyed his "homemade" Mac and cheese, though I'm not sure how homemade it was. Tasted like boxed Mac with shredded cheese added. Finally, my wife had the feta cheese dip and miso soup. The miso soup was fine, she said, but the feta dip--or white water, as she called it--was also disgusting. And to top if off, we paid $112 to eat what we did. We will NEVER be back to this place. Try elsewhere. This place will only disappoint.

Cloudy, rainy, foggy, not the best day to be traveling to the Adirondacks when the Fall colors are…read moreat their peak. Surprisingly enough, there was a spot along the Northway just outside of Warrensburg that still managed to show off its rainbow sherbet of colors. Our objective, however, was to meet my sister in Chestertown for dinner at O. P. Fredricks. Arriving at 4 PM when they opened there were already a few people in the bar and in the dining room. They don't take reservations, so it was wise to arrive early. By 4:30 there were people waiting for a table. The atmosphere inside is truly Adirondack with hewn wood beams and paneling. Before I forget, the chairs are really comfortable. The menu was surprisingly, large. In addition to the evening's specials, which included three entrées, there were a dozen shareable appetizers (emphasis on "shareable"), four salads, 19 regular entrées (all accompanied by a fresh salad and bread [we never received any bread, but I didn't see it served to other tables either]), four steaks, at least a dozen different handheld sandwiches, quesadillas, and a kids' menu. There is a full bar including a half dozen drafts. Our beverages to start were a Wolf Hollow draft Camp Out Stout ($8), a Saranac Ginger Beer ($4), and a glass of Mondavi Chardonnay ($7). The portion size of the Baked Brie ($11) was truly shareable. The brie was warmed without being runny, served on top of a tasty garlic bread made from pressed hamburger bun slices, and topped with a melba sauce. It was so delicious! Just like the appetizers, entrée portions are large. We each took half of ours home. My sister was very pleased with her Seafood Stuffed Portobello ($26) - the stuffed portobello was broiled and topped with shrimp scampi and, as all of our entrées, served over the house rice pilaf. My wife's Scallops Rockefeller ($31.95) included sautéed scallops (oddly on one side only), mushrooms, chopped bacon, and baby spinach, finished with an anisette flambé, and served over the previously mentioned rice pilaf. Another tasty dish. My choice was their Jambalaya ($28). It was a delicious combination of sautéed chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, mixed peppers, onions, and diced tomatoes mixed with the ubiquitous rice pilaf. It had just the right amount of spiciness for my taste to make it a thoroughly enjoyable meal. To wrap things up, we shared the Maple Bread Pudding ($7) with cups of coffee ($3 each). The bread pudding was moist with just enough maple flavor to satisfy a sweet craving. Service throughout was very attentive and friendly. Did I mention how comfortable the chairs are? And yes, their rice pilaf does go very well with everything. We're looking forward to a future visit. UPDATE: The Jambalaya is soooo good the 2nd day, I suggest you order it as takeout to eat the following day. And they are even nice enough to have removed the tails from the shrimp before the dish is served.
