Good pizza. Was visiting from Green Bay You never know what to expect when you don't know someone in the area who can refer a place to you. Read the reviews on their website and seemed decent but you can't always trust reviews. Food was delicious, server was friendly. We came in on a Friday evening around 4. It wasn't busy at all and never really got too busy. Our server was extremely good, Cassie. She was so attentive to our needs without even coming to the table. Wonderful service! We ordered wings, medium...crispy with the sauce on the side. Battered mushroom, delicious and hot. Then we got a meat pizza. Great amount of toppings and adequate cheese (hubby loves cheese so he was satisfied). My only complaint is the service fee on the bill. A week ago we called to see how long of a lead time was needed for carryout pizza. The woman said 50-55 minutes, so we placed our order. We arrived an hour later and were told it wasn't ready. We had traveled from Illinois and had two small children in the car. They took an ADDITIONAL hour to give us our food. They gave us gift certificates, so although our kids were crabby and we were frustrated, we went on our way. Today I called to explain our situation and ask how far ahead I should order. We ended up picking a time while on the phone and then went about our day. This evening the pizza was ready on time, but the server was not wearing a mask two days after Governor Whitmer's mask mandate. In addition, she was wearing a t-shirt that said, "I'm not wearing a mask and I'm not scared" on the front and, "Fuck you, Whitmer" on the back. This behavior is appalling, trashy, and unprofessional at best, and downright hazardous at worst. If we hadn't been using a gift certificate, we would have turned around and left. The pizza is okay at best, and definitely not worth the poor service, excessive wait time, and trashy "political" statement during a global crisis. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

Ambiance: Fairly standard bar with a closed off back room that could accommodate a live band. The bartender seemed to be running the whole place with a guy in the kitchen so service was a little slow but still very friendly and accommodating. Food: I shared 3 strombolis with my family. They were huge and packed with delicious fillings. The Italian was my favorite as it tasted like a standard combo pizza, the veges even still had a little bite. The pepperoni was also tasty with hand-cut pepperoni that had a little kick. The sauce for the pepperoni was fairly standard, I've had fresher and more flavorful sauces but it wasn't bad by any means. The philly stromboli was surprisingly good with thin sliced beef that had an authentic philidelphia flavor. The biggest flaw was that parts of dough were either burnt on the bottom or undercooked, especially at the ends. Once you avoid these parts, the strombolis were good. 2/3 of each can easily stuff a hungry person and 1/2 will leave you comfortable full. Mother in law had a burger served on a ciabatta bun but unfortunately was well done instead of medium rare like requested. Overall the food is pretty good but far from gourmet and with a fair amount of imperfections. Still, it's probably better than most non-chain options nearby. read more

We stopped here late in October and there was no wait. We say at a booth in the bar. The booth was cozy but held the four of us. We ordered the stuffed mushroom caps (stuffed with crab and cheese) and spinach and artichoke dip as appetizers and both alerted so good. You get four medium size caps with the mushrooms and a small bowl of dip with lots of bread for the spin dip. I recommend both. They were both delicious. We ordered the shrimp Alfredo, personal ham and pineapple pizza, bone in wings with hot sauce, and pepperoni Stromboli. Everything was pretty great. I was impressed with the Alfredo. It wasn't just a white sauce but really tasted like it was done right with melted cheese. The wings were also really great the "hot" sauce was spicy with a hint of sweet. The Stromboli was so great the dough was perfect. It was loaded with lots of cheese and pepperoni and they have a good red sauce. The atmosphere was very cozy and not busy. They have a pool table in the bar area. I would recommend to sit in the bar area and if you have four people to choose a bigger table but other than that, it had great food and it was a good time. Came here for lunch with my dad while visiting. The place was very busy as indicated by the number of snowmobiles in the parking lot. It only took a couple minutes to place a drink order and I recommend the draft beer because it is served ice cold and at a great price. It did take more than 15 minutes to place our order but not long to get once we placed the order. I'm not complaining because they were extremely busy. I had an Italian grinder and added the fries. GET THE FRIES! They are hand-cut and fried perfectly. The sandwich was large enough to share or take home half for later. I saw a lot of great dishes going past my table and will definitely come back to try their homemade calzone. Trust. read more

There didn't seem to be much to choose from dining wise while driving through Manistique, but I am thankful for Yelp and that we found this place! It was on the 4th of July so it was empty, but since the food was so good, I am still surprised. Our party was 4 adults (big eaters too) and we were able to share 2 strombolis they are that big! I would say they were about 18 inches long and if the dough is not made from scratch in house, they have an excellent vendor because even the dough tasted great. We ordered the Italian Stromboli and the pizza Stromboli and we would definitely recommend both. We also had the deep fried cookie dough bites (WHAT?!). The order was on the smaller side (I think we got 6 of them) but they are very rich so you don't need more than that. read more

Our first dining experience in Manistique, and not a bad one. The place isn't much to look at from the outside, but it has a certain old school charm inside. The business doesn't seem to believe in masks during COVID, but we wore ours and just trusted in the judgment of the locals. Together we had the walleye, the fried shrimp, dinner salads, hot wings, chili, and the dinner bread. All were very good or great, except the fried shrimp may have been a bit overcooked. The wings and bread were probably the highlights. The service was very good, and the cook even showed genuine interest in watching out for certain food allergies. Overall, probably not a 5-star place, but given the locale and the nature of the place, 4 stars seems about right. Tip: the menu prices (already a bit steep) are for cash. They add a 3+% fee for plastic. Signs are on the wall, but not overly prominent. Not a big deal to us, but we don't see that too often, so we felt it worthy of noting here. read more

Best Stromboli I've ever had. Hand made, full of toppings, generous amount of cheese, and some of the best dough I've ever had.

Atmosphere is great, service was great! Drinks were awesome! We ordered the brew house sample, not a big fan. Shrimp were cold, mozzarella sticks were not cooked through and mushrooms did not taste good at all. Fries were really good. Jalapeño poppers were good too. Wouldn't order the sampler again. Husband had the western burger, he liked it said it was good bar burger. I had the cheese steak hoagie. The steak was good, I didn't care for the bun. It wasn't toasted as I would like it. We went to this restaurant twice in the last two weeks. The first time I had a Cuban sandwich which was outstanding. My daughter had the mild wings which were very spicy. When asked about the spicy wings the waitress said they always come that way and people always say they're spicy. Why don't they indicate on their menu that they don't have mild wings? The second time we went was on a Saturday about 7 PM. Most of the tables looked as though they had already been served food when we entered and were seated. Before we ordered the waitress told us that the pizzas were an hour and a half wait. We ordered hamburgers instead because we didn't want to wait that long. We ended up waiting an hour for our food and nearly everyone in the restaurant was gone by that time. The cooks in the back looked to be either new or just slow from our vantage point at the bar. read more

This bar/grill was an interesting little spot in Manistique, and you can tell it's been around for ages. Listening to the conversations of others in the restaurants, it appears to be a favorite of locals. I like to support local joints, so I figured it was worth a shot. We tried to order the warm crab dip with fresh bread as an app, but they didn't have any crab in stock. The next app we asked for also was not available. So we got cheese curds, which were tasty, but it was a tiny portion (and several of the "curds" were just empty fried batter). The waitress said that they were known for their pizza, so my husband and I decided to give it a go. And the pizza...was pretty disappointing. The sauce tasted like it came straight from the tarnished can, and the sausage was really tough/gummy. I had a piece, and ended up feeling lousy all night. My husband enjoyed the pizza more than I did, so we took it along to our hotel to have as leftovers (they give pizza to-go in a paper bag, not a box?). But when it came to actually eating it later...he had two bites, and said it was worse than before. It's possible it was just an off night in the kitchen, but we were underwhelmed by what we got. That being said, we thought our server was friendly, and service was pretty good. I hate to give poor reviews to places in remote areas, because I know they really rely on tourist foot traffic. We came here after 9pm on a Friday in October 2019 because they were the only place still serving food and it was the best decision we made. The staff were all friendly and wonderful and you won't be disappointed with the prices or the portions. Ordered the chef salad and it's enough for two meals, easily. They have good sized pierogi and the husband and I each got an order since they were only $3.99 each and they gave us 5 each so we had some to take home. You'd never expect the type of food you can get here by the way the building looks from the outside, but I read the reviews on here & I'm glad I did! Our server/barmaid was extremely friendly & accommodating. We went on a Saturday around 3ish on June 24th, the place was empty except for two bar customers. We left around 4:30 & several other people came in to sit at the bar & one couple at a table. It was very clean & tidy (bathrooms were too!) & the prices were reasonable. My husband & I split a cheesesteak stromboli & their hand-cut fries. Don't let the price of the stromboli scare you because it was well worth it!! Really tender ribeye w/ onions & a gooey melty swiss cheese w/ a delicious crust that was the perfect thickness. The hand-cut fries were delicious also. My friend & her husband tried ours & ended up getting one for them to go for a later meal that evening because they liked it too! They split a side salad which was the equivalent to something you'd get at a high end restaurant. It was a spring mix kind of lettuce & they got blue cheese dressing which had huge hunks of blue cheese, was delish! They also split the Back 40 Chicken Sandwich, which they said was yummy also. I wish we could have went there the next day for cocktails & split an appetizer because all their appetizers looked amazing! There's always a next time :) P.S. Their drink prices were great also ($3 for a Beam & Ginger Ale in a decent sized glass w/ a generous pour...can't beat that!). read more

My wife, daughter, and I were traveling through the U.P. And stopped in Manistique for a few nights. We searched out a pizza place and found the 40 Bar & Grill. What luck! The food here is really good! We ordered a pizza, fried green beans, cheese sticks, and Perogies with sour cream. Absolutely no complaints. The staff is friendly and hard working. The food is great! Needed a place to eat in the way back from The Big Spring and found this place. NOT what we expected and we were bery pleasantly surprised. The food and service here great. AWFUL!!! Three of us stopped for lunch while taking a break from camping on a stormy rainy afternoon. There was only one group of people in there already and they had already been served so they weren't busy. We placed our orders for a grilled cheese, chicken wings and cheese fries and a chicken sandwich, fried. First off the chicken wings were cold, and the cheese whiz looking stuff on the fries was barely melted. The grilled cheese was burnt on one side and snow white on the other. The chicken sandwich was the final straw. The waitress told us they made a mistake and made a grilled chicken and not fried, no biggie, but they didn't even bring it out I would have eaten it anyway rather than wait. They just said they were making a new sandwich. When I got that, I cut through the burnt bacon, and the un melted cheese to a half RAW chicken patty. DISGUSTING!!! They comped the chicken sandwich and grilled cheese and offered to make me another sandwich, but seriously, they couldn't even manage a grilled cheese, I'll pass. The food poisoning on a bun just turned me off that place for real food. They do a decent pizza but the other stuff has been hit and miss, and the raw chicken was the miss to make me go elsewhere from now on. read more
