Came here during a girl's ski trip weekend as we were staying in Bennington. When we walked in, there was live music playing. Exciting! We chose a booth next to the door as all of the other full booth tables were taken. Busy! I do not advise sitting next to the door in January; it was pretty cold. Our waitress was rather friendly and seemed like she could've been a good addition to girls' night out but we ended up going home after dinner. I ordered a cranberry mule off their winter cocktail list which was served in a cute Ketel One mug. It was also Delicious!! My friend had a cosmo and said it was very good, dry, and "not too sweet not too alcoholy." We split the arancini which was AMAZING and the winter salad off the specials menu, which was also very delicious. For dinner, I had the mussels fra diavolo which was spicier than I imagined it being but still good. I even liked the mussels which isn't typical for me. It was served with a buttery and soft garlic crostini and linguini, but I could've just gotten it with a loaf of bread which I'll admit I was curious to try. We really enjoyed the live music and were a little disappointed when he left for the night and no house music started playing. The silence left a small hole in our experience. Overall? Great night. We liked the restaurant enough that we considered going to their sister restaurant across the street the following night, but ended up just having our leftovers from 421. Ordered take out because we had a long day in the car. We ordered through their website which was super easy and they texted when the order was ready. We got the pizza margherita; I added prosciutto. The Italian Trio pizza, a large Caesar salad, and arancini. I didn't snag a pic of the arancini because we inhaled them from were so hungry from skipping lunch. The arancini were superb. The atmosphere was fantastic with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a large open door that made the inside feel airy and spacious. Service was prompt and very friendly! At our table, we tried the pepperoni and mushroom pizza--loaded with toppings, full of flavor, and a crust cooked to perfection. The shrimp scampi with rigatoni was another standout: 6-7 colossal shrimp (so big we had to cut them in half!), paired with a creamy, garlicky sauce that clung to every noodle and shrimp. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the burger, which was good, but not quite great--it lacked some flavor and felt a little flat compared to the other dishes. That was the only thing that kept us from giving a full 5 stars. Dessert completely redeemed the meal: the chocolate lava cake was perfectly moist, rich, and indulgent--you'd never know it was gluten free! Stumbled upon this restaurant while on a weekend trip in Vermont. It turned out to be just what we needed. The seasonal cider beer was so good! Pizza. Forget everything else. Went to dinner here, vs. their sib restaurant Madison (tho... might've been a better experience), which is across the street. Typical bar style decor. Booths and tables. Ordered pizza, burger, and pasta bolognese... pizza was fine (as good as you can get in Bennington); both the burger and pasta started out ok... 3-4 bites in... I asked for soda and water refill. Super super super salty. My coworker and I chugged water like crazy after our dinner. Funny thing, we managed to finished our food - while powering through a blip of a storm with a good 15 mins power outage. So yea, thankful for the wide windows - didn't have to fumble through the dark finishing our meal. lol Service was fine, it was just hectic and weird trying to either pay by cash or card but no power... so had to hand write your numbers in... but then the power came back on the very last minute, all good. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy when we arrived (Labor Day weekend + Garlic Town festival), and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes for a table. I ordered the Margherita pizza and a garden salad. Both were good, and the portions were huge! The beer menu is extensive with 20+ choices of draft beers. Such a great spot with fantastic and friendly service and good food. Love that they have lots of gluten free options like the dough for the pizza and the bread substitutions. I got the steak frites and a small Caesar and both were delicious. The steak was cooked well and had that grill taste to it. The fries were truffle Parmesan and crispy and well flavored. Who knew Bennington had a garlic fest? Not us! We made plans for Bennington to be a meet up spot between old college friends. we role into town and were greeted by garlic fest! Well we did not attend the festival, we did eat off the garlic fest menu at 421. 421 just opened. They were staggering seating. we waited 10 minutes but they seated our party of 9 so we were thankful! It was a specialty menu for garlic fest. No worries, we love garlic! We shared garlic knots. Not the best I have ever had but very garlicky and large. Could have been softer and warmer. I went with a steak and cheese sandwich. It was braised short ribs, smothered in a sauce then smothered in cheese. I have to say- EXTREMELY HEAVY. I couldn't do it. I ate my short rib with a fork and left plenty to go to waste. It was flavorful but just too rich. Their fries were just ok. I did try a pineapple cider- me likey! I also tried the cheese pizza as a leftover. Too thin and nothing special. This place has a great location on the main drag, modern decorations plus open door concept for nice days is always a win in my book. The staff was kind and the menu had great offerings. My wife and I were visiting for a memorial service and decided to have a little date night in town. This place had great live music as soon as we stepped in. The menu was a little short, but the food was phenomenal. We ordered the Lebanese beef short rib stroganoff, which was some of the best stroganoff I've ever had, and the shrimp scampi, which was also very good. To be fair, it's hard to mess up scampi, but still. We had food for the next day as well because the portions are HEFTY. Love the food. Only complaint I have is when it's busy there is nowhere to sit and wait. I used to not mind waiting but I use a Cain to walk and have to sit. The last time my wife and I went it was busy and the hostess would not let us sit telling us the chairs up against the wall were not for sitting. I could not stand that long so we had to leave. Fantastic food, friendly service, dog friendly outdoor seating. They don't accept reservations but we (a party of four) and my dog walked right in for an outdoor table on a Saturday evening a little before 6p. We were there for dinner vs drinks/beer as none of us are big drinkers. We started with two serving of the grilled beef kofta kebabs drizzled with a spicy sauce. They were seasoned well, a bit more rare would have been our preference, nevertheless tasty. Two of us had the beef stroganoff over papparadelle and two, the grilled bourbon salmon over a farro, green apple, arugula salad. Both were outstanding!! Chose The 421 Craft Bar & Kitchen because the food is good. We knew everything we wanted to order, so we wouldn't tie up a table too long. Maple Mustard wings with a side of Alabama sauce, Linguine with meatballs, Salmon, boozy grape skewers, and drinks. It's Saturday, it's busy we knew there would be a wait. Host said 30 minutes. I asked if we could sit in the chairs along the wall near the bar. I was told no those aren't for sitting, they are just extra chairs. No other option was offered, she seemed annoyed we were there, very unwelcoming. My disabled Veteran husband can not stand for 30 minutes. Not the romantic date I wanted, we left. read more

Came on a Wednesday evening. Party of 3 seated immediately. Very cute inside. They had the garage doors open to let in fresh air. Nice drink menu including a wide variety of beers. Limited NEIPA, but a nice selection. Ordered the bread & tomato oil appetizer and the kimchi pork belly sliders. Pork belly sliders were amazing. Nice flavor and perfectly cooked. Could have used a little more kimchi. The bread app came with a HUGE serving of the hot tomato oil. Great for dipping pizza crusts if you order pizza. Main dishes were a NY cheese pizza, Cuban sandwich, and Bahn mi. Cuban was really good although I was a little disappointed as the menu said pickled red onions, but it was just the usual pickles. Still tasty. Never received my side salad. The Bahn mi was cold and I am all for undercooking my pork a little, but this was bright pink. Flavors were good, but just wish the pork was hot and you know....cooked. Pizza had a great flavor but super soggy. Guess this comes down to preference on style, but I much prefer a crispy crust. This was more like soup. More like a 3.5, but good enough for me to nudge it up to 4 stars. read more

On a whim we headed to Bennington. What an amazingly fun ( and delicious) find! Great craft cocktails and fresh beer. Tapas to share or full meals. I had a beautiful rocket salad with golden beets and other delicious addons. We also had homemade gnocchi " Mac n cheese" ( ask for a side of bread for cheese sauce dipping). We should have stopped there but didn't and the pumpkin bread pudding is unbelievably good! Our wait person - AMAZING! Made us feel like old friends. Really class act. Great food. Fun vibe. Fun night and good food. I could have eaten a barrel of the blistered peppers. Order the Mac and Cheese (which is gnocchi in a three cheese sauce and is terrific) The empanadas were totes tasty. The Arancini and The lamb pops were really good too. The chicken wings were just too BIG for me and the bbq sauce wasn't enticing. My friends liked them. It was a little odd that they served the same sauce with the peppers and the empanadas. The waitstaff was so great. Friendly and knowledgeable and fun. So, for just a month in, both front and back of house hit a home run. My friends loved their version of a sidecar and some of their other cocktails. The beetroot martini--not so much. Great job so far, and even more potential to improve. 421 gets a lot right: the lighting, interior design, chair comfort. The service is super friendly. It's a hip energetic vibe. Love the wine and beer on draft - and the selections are outstanding. I've been 3 times now; the two inside experiences I was freezing (August) and other guests were bundled up in jackets as well. The food was mostly tasty. I would love to see an expanded menu and some options for light eaters. All of the portions were way too big for us. How about offering a half portion on some menu items? Excellent food and great drinks, lots of local taps. We are two adults and a 10 year old. We ordered house made tots, salad with feta and beet dressing, house made fries, and a small pepperoni pizza. Plenty of food for us. Tots were delicious, with pieces of bacon and a tasty garlic dipping sauce. As for the salad, I really don't like beets. But, the salad was amazing and I can honestly say that the beet flavor added something that I totally enjoyed. The pizza is top notch, all the way. We were driving through the area from Stowe, Vt to Hancock, MA. Since it was dinner time, we thought we'd check out our options. The first place we stopped was out of mashed potatoes, hard to have Bangers and Mash, so we moved on to this place. It had a nice vibe and some outdoor seating with heaters. Moderately full so thinking food was probably good. Which out of the 4 meals we ordered two of them that we ordered and received were wonderful. Two in our group ordered pizzas, after an hour long wait for our food we learned that the pizzas were never made. Since we had another hour to drive, we asked what the other two could get that would be quick so we could expedite the meal. They came back and said macaroni and cheese. Which one person said it was good and the other didn't like bread crumbs in Mac and cheese.... So the whole point that makes this better, while we watched the tables who sat after us get their pizza and eat and we watched our waitress flirting with somebody else that worked there she might have noticed that we didn't get our food and others had.... Secondly, the $12 pizza orders turned into $16 Mac n Cheese, we were charged for the Mac and cheese at full price. No discount for any part of the meal. So overall, food was decent, they were sort of busy but we were sat in after a 10-15 minute wait. When we left there MAYBE half the restaurant was full and it looked like most tables were eating. In the days of not enough people to serve and cook so have some patience, we did and never said a word other than trying to feed the two in our party that didn't get served. Would have been nice to have a bit more customer service from the two that were making googly eyes at each other. read more

There is a nice list of craft cocktails in addition to a good selection of beers. The Maple Manhattan was my choice, very good, but very sweet! For dinner the Short Rib Stroganoff was my choice. A good size piece of short rib over Pappardelle pasta with button mushrooms in a creamy sauce and it was delicious. A spot worth a return visit if in the Bennington area. read more
