The menu offers a good variety of appetizers and entres with generous portions of tasty foods. There is a salad bar, which I particularly enjoy and their seafood chowder was really good. Service was attentive, personal and pleasant. The bar area, separate from the restaurant, looks clean, comfortable and inviting. We had a very pleasant lunch. A comfortable experience. I have to say, this was a bizarre experience. It was a holiday weekend, and they were totally booked up, and also short staffed. It was our first and only time there, so I'm banking on that they were a little off their game. So it took about 20 minutes for us to get water, or a waitress. Then it took what felt like 3 minutes to get our apps and/or entrees, which came about 2 minutes apart. Big portions, so we didn't get dessert. But I will say that the food was excellent. The 4-star rating is mainly for the portions and service. I'm not saying that the food was crap, but just manage expectations and treat this more of a casual pub scene, rather than fine dining. The first time I came here, I actually did not eat or drink anything. That's because as I perused through the menu, the restaurant lost power from a thunderstorm. So they basically could not serve food for an unknown period of time. I thanked them for being informative and kind and moved on to a different spot for the evening meal. I decided to return a second time. The wings (Buffalo and garlic parmesan) were well-fried and flavorful. The risotto had too much balsamic vinegar on top, and the rice tasted a little sweet (think rice pudding). Both were turnoffs for me, and felt fortunate that it wasn't my order. My husband and I stopped by for dinner after a lovely day visiting MAs MoCA and the Clark museums. I am gluten free and was surprised to find a Restaraunt that seems to have so many GF choices and options. We found both the food and the drinks delicious! My husband is not gluten free, so he has been enjoying New England food such as traditional fish and chips. I was getting jealous. At the Trail House they focus on Gluten Free options. I was able to get: GF New England Clam Chowder. Wow was that super rich and tasty- big chunks of clams and fresh veggies. And creamy herby soup. Gf Fish and Chips (finally). The cod was great fried in a light crispy coating. My husband chose aGF crispy chicken with maple bacon sauce and mashed potatoes. Even though it was GF, he said it was wonderful. Let's start with what went well...outdoor seating was enjoyable and the coffee (Chris Coffee) was the best thing we enjoyed. Martini too sweet. Menus had old specials in them, our table number was mixed up with another's. The beet salad was smothered in dressing and not well presented. Service was average. VEGANS BEWARE. Trail House advertises that they cater to among others, vegans. We called in advance and they confirmed they could veganize almost everything on their menu. Today we went in for lunch - the only thing on the menu that was "vegan" was a portobello burger served on a brioche bun. They had nothing to substitute for the brioche. And nothing else on the menu that could be made vegan. They did make us a plate with the portobello ( tasted fine) but we wouldn't have gone if we'd known we had only one option. read more

I stopped in after work for a quick late lunch and my margaritas...Amy was my waitress and she was awesome. The server bartender was polite, but seemed to focus on people who seem to be "regulars" even though I was seated before them. We wanted to love it, but it was just alright. To be fair, I didn't get what I had ordered and I am sure that this contributed to my disappointment with my meal. We started off with a mock-tail, the berry one with ginger beer. It was beautiful and delicious!! I had ordered the chicken sandwich on gluten free roll with the side sale. My mother ordered a special which was a grilled ham and cheese with a side salad. Unfortunately, when my meal came out I actually passed it to my mother because it was visibility ham...and the waiter corrected me and said no this is the GF roll. I was disappointed, but my partner and I have both worked in various kitchens and we do not send food back. It was just ok and barely warm. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased with the size of the side salads that replaced the traditional fry route (based on our choice). The food was fresh and vibrant. The service was prompt and attentive, maybe new? They didn't seem to know the menu well, and special descriptions weren't great, and the detail of getting my order wrong. The system to pay was awkward...they swipe your credit card and while they hold the phone you sign and select your tip- I think it probably negatively impacted their tip because there is no time to think and typical rounding up to even numbers,etc. was not an option. We went to celebrate birthdays but there wasn't much of anything to celebrate here. This place came recommended to us from a colleague who's been here multiple times, so we thought we'd give it a try. TLDR: strange ambiance, not great service, & bad food. Trifecta in a bad way. I didn't take any photos because I was thoroughly annoyed. We made reservations, which I would recommend if you choose to come here. They were pretty busy for a Saturday night. There may have been an athletic event at Williams because there were mostly students and their families. The table spacing is fairly minimal and you will feel like you're sitting on top of people if it's busy. The interior is a mix of a "woodsy" rustic cabin and an attempt at a nicer bar area. The chairs are alright, not the most comfortable, and we witnessed a couple of people (including a waiter) trip on the gray rugs they have down. The drinks sounded good and didn't look half bad, but ultimately failed the taste test. One was sent back entirely. This is likely due to an inexperienced or poor bartender. Unsure if someone else would make them differently, thus creating a different experience. The food was absolutely terrible. Apps: fried pickles, baked Brie & bacon wrapped scallops. The fried pickles were nowhere near crispy/crunchy. They were hot so I do think they were made fresh; probably issues with the batter/method of frying. The house made dipping sauce wasn't bad. The bread for the baked Brie was alright but the Brie itself was not. Just tasted poor quality. The scallops were ok. Entrees: roasted half chicken, lobster Mac & stuffed shrimp. Everything was incredibly BLAND and dusted with parsley. The "garlic" mashed potatoes that came with the chicken tasted nothing of garlic. The chicken itself was indeed a half, so large in portion size, but we found it to be pink in many portions throughout and swimming in some sort of gravy. It wasn't dry for this reason, but too moist. Whatever they call a cheese sauce for the Mac was an absolute disgrace. Mac and cheese should be creamy, hot and salty. This was none of those things and not flavorful at all. I picked out about 3-4 pieces of the lobster only. One spoonful of the Mac was enough for me. I didn't touch it after. The shrimp were large as advertised, but also not flavorful whatsoever. The crab stuffing was subpar. Obviously, we opted to not order dessert. Service; our waitress was a young woman, and I'm sure a nice person, but not the most attentive. Our drinks took at least 15 minutes to arrive and this was before the wave of people came. There was no offer for a follow up/different drink when one was sent back. Most of the meals were not boxed up and thrown out - there was no inquiry of how the food was/if anyone wanted anything different or something else. The waiter who only brought our food over seemed much more personable. No one was stiffed (as we believe that's unfair and rude) but their billing system offers 20% as the lowest option. That's usually reserved for much nicer restaurants and one would hope for exceptional waitstaff. All in all, it was a poor experience and we will not be returned. Our bill was $174, pre-tip. Absolutely not worth the price. We'll have to check out another spot for birthday celebrations 2.0. read more

Was pulled in because we saw a few outstanding mentions of the place in past articles about their farm to table dining and delicious food. There must have been a change in management since those articles were written because the food here was exceedingly mediocre at best. Most of it felt like the typical pre frozen dishes you would get at a some sort of restaurant depot they you stick in the frier and serve hot to customers. Service was incredibly slow - I think we spent close to 2.5 hours getting through our meal even though it took us less than 30 minutes to eat. Decor still looks modern and clean lodge house vibes and their outdoor dining had some nice fire pits going.... So if your just looking for a place to drink some beers in a nice looking restaurant, go for it. But if you're looking for some good eats, I'd probably pass. read more

We went there on a Saturday afternoon in October so of course it was busy. We sat outside. My wife and I are both former restaurant people, so I was afraid it would be too busy to have a good experience. I didn't get the servers's name but she had multiple tables. I really wanted to like this place. Looks cute from the outside and great service, but food was mediocre considering the high prices. And the inside trends more towards the shabby than the chic, unfortunately. Average entree dish is $30 and for that price, you can really eat farm-to-table well in many Berkshire restaurants. For example, order the $25 pasta "primavera" which consisted of package baby carrots and some limp asparagus (not in season either). The $35 salmon was way undercooked and underseasoned with same underwhelming sides. Look elsewhere if you are looking for good food and value. read more

My husband and I stopped in and sat outside on Saturday for lunch. The restaurant has a delightful outdoor area! Unfortunately, service was absolutely horrible. As we continued to have horrible service, the host and manager strategized how to shove more tables in to accommodate more customers instead of moving folks inside or having a wait. My husband literally had to move to the other side of our table to allow other patrons to sit at their table. Our waitress was busy accommodating other customers in the upstairs patio and neglected us constantly...we had to ask the host for ranch dressing and another waitress for another round of wine....twice! So, so frustrating!!!! Moving on to the food...the beet and goat cheese salad was delicious. The chicken salad on a croissant was tasteless and I would not recommend. If you check in on Yelp, you'll find a half price dessert coupon. I hadn't eaten at a restaurant in person since March of 2020 until eating on the patio at Trail House Kitchen and Bar during my post-vaccination celebratory weekend trip. I'm happy to report it was a great experience. The food was so much better than the same old food I've been making at home for a year and a half. Even if it hadn't been the first meal out I'd still say that the food was delicious. As a group we ordered the kids burger and fries, the kids chicken bites, a creamy pasta topped with salmon, and the chicken paillard. Anything fried (and I tried everything) was perfectly crisp and light. We only ordered soft drinks so I can't report on the bar but some of the area tables were drinking some pretty attractive cocktails. The place is located in a refurbished old house (former NoCo Pastaria) on the Mohawk Trail (MA 2) west of Stop & Shop and near the Appalachian Trail, hence the name Trail House. The cuisine served here is creative American with healthy options in mind including vegetarian and gluten free choices. The ingredients used here come from local suppliers, a farm to table concept. They offer small plates & appetizers for sharing, soups, salads,burgers, split bread sandwiches, large plate comfort entrees (steaks, seafood, chicken, pasta, and a good selection of desserts. Daily specials are offered too. The prices here are moderate, most sandwiches $11-$12, entrees $14-$28, desserts $6. They have a beer, wine and cocktail list and also have a children's menu too. I stopped by Trail House for brunch recently. I was seated in the bright dining room, in a comfortable cushioned seat with a soft pillow to rest my back. They also offer outside patio dining in nicer weather, which was the case during my visit. For food, I started out with the Chicken Parmesan Bites ($8), which had soft boneless breaded chicken pieces (deep fried) sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese & parsley, served with a zesty marinara sauce. For the entree, I ordered the Broccoli Cheese Quiche ($14) served with a side gorgonzola pear salad. The quiche was fluffy and the crust was flaky. The salad was fresh. For dessert, I ordered the Cider Donut with Ice Cream ($6). The cinnamon sugar cider donut was topped with scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce, a great ending to a great brunch. Overall, I enjoyed the food here, portion sizes were not excessive, and the service here was prompt and friendly.
