this place is 100% the reason why restaurants need to go back to pen & paper, rather than using handhelds. they make workers look like ipad kids, they get in the way of genuine server and guest interaction, and they make taking an order take 3x longer than it needs to. we were informed of where outside seating was, we were not guided and sat. after picking the only table out there, we sat for 10 or so minutes before we got menus. by the time a server came back, we had chosen our drinks & food. so they went to take our order, but we were outside so the server had a hard time seeing the screen. they had to position themselves away from our table to see. they slowly took the drink order. then I ordered the Turkey Panini. they tell me they just sold out. I asked if I could have it with the Chicken Breast instead (that came with their BLT). sure! but..... since they were on a handheld, and the item was sold out therefore they 'removed' it from the menu - he rings in the BLT and starts making modifications to it. but like.... you'd have to modify everything but the tomato. I have served for over 20 years. it would have been easier to ring in "Turkey Panini, sub Chicken" but now we're having this conversation of how I don't want the BLT bread, I'd really like the panini. and now they are asking me about what comes with the BLT vs the panini and it's this whole long situation that didn't need to be. pen & paper would have eliminated this whole awkward situation of fighting the handheld just to ring in something simple. my other two guests finally put their orders in. A french dip and a cheesy flatbread. fine, we're finally past the taking order part which felt like they were at our table for 20m. our drinks take 10. after another 10m they come back and says "bad news, we can't find the marinara...." not ran out. can't find. we say find forget it just keep the pizza cheese only and we'll see if our picky eater will eat it. he doesn't. they don't even offer to rectify or comp it. the restaurant is DEAD, there was 1 other table. so why did it take over 30m just to get our food? we hadn't seen the server again prior to getting our food, so we order another round of drinks when it arrives. we dig in, the food was fine. My sandwich was missing the cheese, but that's bc they rang it in as a BLT with all these mods. of course the kitchen is going to be confused. and the chicken breast was dry, with a lack of anything to combat that (pesto sauce, cheese). we finish our meals. we wait. we continue to wait. my partner had to go inside to ask for our check! they server says oh, they clocked out. but they'll help us. comes back outside with that stupid handheld. as he's fumbling with it, we tell him we ordered another round of drinks but they never came so we wanna make sure it's not on the bill. as we say this, the drinks come. we say fine, we'll drink them. you'd think they'd be comped. they were not. and our bill was $128!!!!!! for lunch! and we never got to see a physical bill to ensure we were charged correctly bc of those stupid handhelds. we only left $15 on $128 bc we were so disappointed in our experience here. we won't be back. and advice to the owners is to fix the handheld AND lack of service issue. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences we ever had. The flatbread (if you can even call it that) was awful. Thick pieces of mozzarella on a bed of tasteless tomato sauce on a way under cooked piece of dough. Chicken wings were cold with a supermarket sauce poured over them. Didn't complain or send anything back, just wanted out of there. The staff were working and sitting at the bar drinking. They would deliver an order and then pour themselves a drink and sit back down. Never saw anything like it before. I also can't leave out the barfly who was obviously overserved and obnoxiously loud as she received drink after drink. Be warned that if you go for free pool night, the locals take the table and do not share or give it up. Terrible experience. read more

My daughter and I went here for lunch on a Saturday and sat at the front window. We enjoyed the casual and inviting atmosphere. Our server Matthew was super helpful getting us exactly what we wanted (I wanted grilled onions on my burger). Located in the center of Bennington, Union South Pub & Provisions opened recently in an old coffee house space on South Street. This old long space was redone nicely (opem face brick walls in simlland has a full bar area in the front with seating at the bar, high top tables, 3 TVs, serving up to 16 beers on draft, can beers, wine, mixed drinks and cocktails. The dining room area in the back has tables and booths. They are also still renovating the 103 South Street space next door too, in 2023. The food menu looks pretty good which offers a variety of appetizers, entree salads, French onion soup, burger & sandwich plates, main entrees (pasta, steaks, chicken, seafood, pork loin), and a kids menu. They also offer specials too. It seems like they locally source a lot of their ingredients from Henry's Market in Bennington. The menu pricing is moderate here. On my way to NY, I stopped in for Friday dinner at Union South in Downtown Bennington. The place was very busy including in the bar area where every seat at the bar was occupied. I walked over to the hostess stand and they seated me immediately at an open high top in the bar area and was given a menu and specials list to peruse.. My server arrived to my table within 5 minutes with a bottle of cold water and glass. I already decided what I wanted and placed my order, which was entered in via a wireless electronic tablet, powered by Toast. For the purpose of this posting, I came hungry and ordered 2 entrees, which came out together 20 minutes later. The Build Your Burger ($17 plus tax) with choice of toppings (I picked out raw white onions, lettuce, pickles, bleu cheese spread) with a hand pressed thick grilled to liking burger patty (Angus ground chuck & short rib) on a toasted brioche bun. The burger was very good with a good filling flavors, especially with the rich bleu cheese on the bottom. The hand cut fries were a bit oversalted, but otherwise good with the burger. I also ordered the Pesto Chicken Pasta ($23 plus tax) served in a bowl with a mix of grilled chicken breast pieces, soft pappardelle noodles, blistered tomato pieces, baby spinach in a creamy pesto sauce with shaved parmesan & basil. This pasta dish was an excellent choice which had a good mix of ingredients and flavors, just enough, but not too rich to eat. The fresh tomatoes in this dish were hot and very, very soft. I would've probably used sundried tomatoes for chew and sweetness, which goes very well with cream sauces. After I finished both entrees, I was extremely full. The server offered dessert which was only tiramisu and a berry trifle, which I declined. The check total was $43.60 with tax and before tip. There was a big QR code on the check, which I was able to scan with my phone and pay the check online via Toast, easy peasy! Overall, though a bit loud and very busy at Union South, the food here was very good and the service was spot on. My server walked by often to check on things and cashing out was quick thanks to online pay. I would definitely check back here again for dinner since there were some seafood choices I would like to try including the fish fry and the clams & Henry's Market andoulle sausage over pasta. read more

Beautiful space, big bar , my friend had the brussel sprouts and a Cesar saladwith bacon, sorouts were under cooked nit crispy at all. I had fish tacos with truffle fries the fries were so good! My husband and I with another couple went for lunch today. I was pleasantly surprised. Extremely comfortable atmosphere ...burgers and chicken caprese were delicious. Staff were very observant and efficient. Burgers could be $2-3 cheaper but are not really out of line with other restaurants I suppose. Beer and wine were in line with other restaurants. I had a very decent pour in a beautiful wine glass. Beautiful bar with a few TV's. Decent music in background not overly loud. We will return. read more

My wife and I had a light lunch. The place was mostly empty. Service was very good: we were greeted at the door, seated without delay, friendly and helpful server.
