What a nice little spot inside this building. First off, I recommend looking inside the bar area before being sat, as there is a much larger dining area in the back room with the bar. When you walk in, it looks like a very small tasting area, but the music is playing and it's much more to look at than the tables in the entrance way. Service was quite friendly and they are smart to have the tap list on a larger chalkboard right inside the door, so making up your mind on what VT beer to enjoy takes less time to decide. Had to order the spicy deep fried cheese curds and these were fantastic. Just enough spice and perfect little guilt-free bites of curds. Mmmm. For my meal, I decided on the Chicken Caesar wrap (one of their specials for the day) and was less thrilled about this choice. It was served grilled and hot, so a warm, thin layer of lettuce, with a grilled chicken (2-3 solid pieces) in there. Dressing was served on the side and the menu made no mention of any of this, so it was boring and lacked any real flavors unless you dipped it into the dressing very awkwardly. My buddy's chicken sandwich lacked any sort of flavor as well. Fries (both sweet potato and regular) were super heavy on salt. Beer was solid, so it washed down a very mediocre, salty meal after starting off with a bang with those curds. Bummer. I guess I'll stick with strictly appetizers on my next visit. read more

Found This place off the main path through Bennington thanks to Yelp. It was a bit late on a Saturday night but we were seated right away at a high top (my favorite). Crowd was pretty good for a later dining time and during Covid. Waitress was quick to take drink orders and they had a nice selection of local beers. We just went for apps this night. Potstickers, pretzel and the cheesesteak egg rolls. All were tasty but the egg rolls were the star. Tasty and cooked right. Potstickers had a great dipping sauce and were a nice mix of crispy and chewy. Only down side is that the entrance door opens to the outside and doesn't self-close. A few patrons left door open and the diners had to get up and close as it was bitter cold this night. Small parking lot but the if you need to park a bock away, it's a nice little walk. There were kids here and definitely kid friendly. read more

I have a soft spot for those who refurbish old brick factory buildings and repurpose them. Space is a little choppy. It's a chill place to just come for a nice beer as they have some great Vermont craft beers on tap. Two beers from Lost Nation which I swooned over. Staff is cool. If you've ever been to a neighborhood bar where people, and I mean everyone, is friendly? Then this is it. It's safe to get up to the restroom and actually leave your cell phone or bag at your seat and not have to worry. Clean, safe and a really good vibe. Brick walls, beers on tap that are well rounded and varied for all your needs along with a kitchen that pumps out food with a damn good taste that wants you to keep trying more and more. Space isn't choppy like some fool contended.. it was a bar, with a separate seating area for more quiet conversation and then there's another room that allows you to play corn hole or have a company function or small party. The beer selection was excellent a full range of styles and local, VT, and regional beers. My wife's burger was excellent. Great tasting beef, perfectly cooked with a nice crust on it. She had the Vermontah burger but it should apply to any burger. I wasn't as thrilled with my pork belly tacos or beet salad. The 3 mini tacos have a slice of pork belly, some cabbage slow, and what seemed to be jarred salsa, Plus a side of thick and hard to spread sour cream. The flavors didn't come together well and the somewhat spicy salsa overwhelmed any pork belly flavor. The beet salad was nothing special and the beets themselves had very little flavor. As other reviewers have noted the space is broken up into awkwardly shaped rooms as a limitation of the building they renovated. Service was good and friendly when we were there. I would definitely come back if I wanted a burger and beer, but I would be hesitant to order other things off he menu without positive comments from other Yelpers. 3.5 stars if that were a thing. read more

I've now been to the Tap House 10 times-- for peer meetings, business chats, family outings, lunches and dinners. I want to love this place, but the service is absent minded, the kitchen is small and super slow, and the mix ups are so regular that I can't go here unless it's just for beer. To be fair it's a two-star food place and a four star bar. If you want a good place to grab a local brew, check this place out. If you want a decent meal without an inordinate wait, head elsewhere. I hope they can get their food service up to standard soon. I'd like to go again for more than just a quick drink. read more

They have a great burger! It's one of the only reasons that I continued to go despite the terrible, but friendly, service. I can easily overlook one time where I wait 20 minutes just to be acknowledged, but I just went for my 5th visit and waited, waited, waited at a table. People walked by several times, I obviously do not even have a drink, and nothing. I left without anyone saying a word to me and there were plenty of open tables. They should have noticed. In the past, I have only had decent service once during lunch hour. Other than that, it always seems like it's everyone's first day but when you complain, they are very nice and apologetic. At this point, I have found other places with great burgers, but if I want a quiet place to read without being disturbed them i will be back. read more

Wow!! What a great stumble upon!! We arrived at around 1:30 with our 4 yr old. The "foyer" is NOT little kid friendly, it is a glass shop. We sat and were immediately met by the bartender, she was prompt and friendly. The food here was delicious! My husband and daughter split the fish and chips, they ate every, single, bite. I hate fish and chips and I really liked this! I had the Mac and cheese with tomato- so yummy. This was a meal in itself!! I couldn't finish half of it, just delicious!!! Very affordable. The Tap House nailed it - from day one. We've been in a bunch of times. Super friendly people working, excellent beer from CLEAN LINES, and the food is surprisingly good even though it's just warmed up. The chicken is especially good - damn. Everything is good. Really sweet secret gem in Bennington. They are tucked away on County Street in an ultra hip, industrial loft like glass house. They feature about a dozen beers-- mostly local and Vermont beers. It's small; less than a dozen tables altogether (with outside seating included), but it's worth the trip if you like beer. A handful of bar munchies are also available. read more

My husband and I stopped at The Tap House for the first time during a ride through Vermont. We love small towns and tap houses and we were not disappointed in the atmosphere, the beers, the menu or the staff. When we arrived there was a very loud, rude, vulgar party seated behind us in what is a small bar area. Apparently the Tap House was not their first stop. Adam, the owner, handled them very diplomatically without causing a scene and he was apologetic to other patrons. Thank you to wait staff and owners at the Tap House for great first impression! Loved the special kale salad of the evening in June - with creamy home- made garlic dressing, and fabulous, perfectly cooked pork belly.It was a 5-star dish, but alas, that preparation is not a regular on the menu. The next trip was not quite as impressive - with a pricey scallop special. The scallops were pretty fresh and cooked just about right, but there was a bit of grit in one or two of them and the presentation was sloppy. The generous six were served on a bed of creamed corn...not a terrible idea, but I think that risotto or creamy grits might have worked better. My friend fared better with a burger and greasy onion rings. The beer is good and the prosecco cold. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired...particularily the bad, loud music and noise. It's a bar that happens to have some good food. Please bring back the Kale Salad with Pork Belly! read more

On a whim, we made a trip to Vermont after visiting the Clark Museum. Our entire experience at the Tap House was a highlight of our day. We can't recommend the Pretzel Bites with Vermont Cheese Sauce enough. They were incredible! My friend had the Beyond Burger and loved it and I had the Beyonce Burger, which just melted in my mouth. Had a really nice sat night here with my wife. We both enjoyed the fish and chips with a side of chips and salsa and onion rings. Food was fresh and delicious. This is our go-to place when we need a kitchen break. Perhaps I shouldn't recommend it, as it is exactly as comfy as it could be right now. So, ok, stay away. Everything on the little pub menu is done just right, there are always a dozen craft beers on tap, everybody talks to everybody across tables, there's a meeting room and trivia night and really, it doesn't need any more customers.
