Keep things that were scheduled for months correctly scheduled. We were coming for a two day tournament for roller derby and they booked a MENS EVENT over ours forcing us to accommodate them. I signed up and paid for a school day off camp. After sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes on the day off, someone texted us that there wasn't a camp today despite the fact that all of us sitting in the parking lot had receipts and had paid for it. Now we don't have childcare, and all of us are late for work. I would not send your child here. If they are this unreliable, it would not be safe to send a child here. Never again. read more

My son had his 8th birthday party here and I could not have asked for anything better suited for us, the afternoon was perfect. Our coach and party host, Boston, was helpful, attentive, and tons of fun with a large group of 8 year old boys. The only reason it is two stars and not one is that it is convenient, not terribly cheap, and hasn't fallen down yet. I play soccer on Monday nights here and have for some time. The only reason I return is because my team keeps playing here. There are serious problems with cleanliness, safety and general upkeep. From a cleanliness standpoint, the place stinks. It has for some time. I understand that an indoor sports facility is going to have some odor, but there seems to be little effort to actually make it any better. The whole place smells like used hockey goalie pads. If you are familiar with that smell, it's just about the worst odor on earth. As for safety, this is where I have a huge issue. Equipment is not repaired to make sure that it is safe. When we had the last big snow storm, the bubble (where the turf field is) had to be deflated. It crushed one of the goals and damaged the lights. The goal was left damaged (and we played with it, paying full price) for weeks. It was bent and not safe to play with. One goal had an actual jagged piece of metal near the top. No one did anything about it until I emailed management. They don't inspect equipment for safety regularly as far as I can tell. The lights have been damaged for months. I have seen soccer balls hit the sharp exposed metal and pop. Also, there are pieces of equipment along the sidelines (metal framed goals and other dangerous obstacles) just inches out of bounds on the turf felds. If a player has a head of steam and runs into one, there are going to be serious injuries. The seams in the turf field are exposed. These are injuries waiting to happen. Despite addressing it with management, nothing has changed. When it comes to snow closure, they are very slow to close the complex for fear on missing out on revenue. We had a game scheduled during a heavy snowstorm and it was not canceled until 45 minutes before the game started! I was already at the complex. On top of that, it was only canceled because so many teams complained and said they were not driving in the dangerous conditions. The front desk staff is generally friendly and likeable but I just don't think many people care about the appearance or safety of the business. Management is in Maryland and are not on site to see the issues that face this place. read more

I was an avid customer for 10 years (and volunteer in youth sports programs) at 422. Unfortunately, I signed my boys up for spring roller hockey in March of 2020 and it was cancelled due to covid. Since then, I've gotten nothing but lies and double talk from the complex and their ownership group about getting my refund - it's been 14 months!!! It is sad that there is no integrity left in this world and that no matter how loyal a customer you are when you deal with businesses with no ethics or integrity they will try to take advantage of you. The saddest part is, if 422 had just been honest with me I would have gladly worked with them to get reimbursed at a later time if that would be a small part of helping them weather the pandemic. I've been playing here since it was Action Sports back in the early 2000's. Management has changed over, but it seems to be for the better. It's evident they're doing something right as they've grown immensely (this is not the only 'sportsplex' building they own from what i understand) It's now a complex with multiple surfaces for different activities and sports. 2 hockey regulation sport court surfaces, which serve inline hockey, lacrosse, field hockey, and even roller derby. Hell, i've even see dry land baseball training on there. They also have a state of the art bubble with grassy turf, a karate facility, and basketball court. Adequate locker rooms (plus construction for more on the way), good sized snack bar, plenty of events/camps for various ages, and birthday parties too. Staff is always friendly and seems like they take the time to know the regulars who always help to give back to the community here (players and coaches alike) read more

I have been playing roller hockey at The Sportsplex for almost 9 years. I have always been pleased with the employees and customer service I receive. They have hosted 3 birthday parties for my nephews and have always been great! The open rink/turf time is a great way to improve my skills and meet new people involved in the same sport locally. I recommend The Sportsplex if you are looking to join a sports league young or old, it's friendly and competitive. Book a kids party, you won't be disappointed! read more

First of all the smell of the inside hits you before you even set foot in the door. The staff is far from friendly and when you ask them something, they seem bothered and usually don't know the answer anyway. The inside is very unkept and seems old and rundown. I signed my son up for inline hockey online and after being there wished I had checked out the place first. It was supposed to be an "instructional" game experience. In other words....no practices unless the coach makes time for them which, ours didn't. My son plays dek hockey so he does know the basics of the game however, they told him what he was doing was wrong and he got less and less time on the rink. I paid for instructional hockey and my kid played all of 3 minutes one game. The coaches are egotistical and only care about the win, not teaching the kids. read more

I've been playing hockey at the Sportsplex for close to ten years now. It was Action Sports when I started. They probably offer the best per season price for inline hockey in the area. And I can tell you, you get what you pay for. Crap. Somehow, the place is filthier every time I go there. Every inline rink has a dust problem, but this place has a plague. Clean your wheels regularly if you don't want them to grind to a halt. The locker rooms are cramped and filled with junk, and the benches randomly disappear. Even if I didn't play, I'd need to take a shower just from setting foot in the place. As for quality of play, this a great rink if you're an asshole. The leagues are supposed to be divided by skill level, but Gold players routinely play in the Bronze or even Copper leagues. They don't even pretend. As long as your team's check clears, the management will put you on the roster. So if you're not loaded up on ringers, you get to be the Washington Generals some nights while the Globetrotters skate circles around you. If you complain to management about getting blown out by overdog teams, they'll promise to do something and deliver squat. Most of the rink rats are buddies with the management and the refs, and they get treated accordingly. Speaking of the refs, they range from decent to pants-on-head incompetent. Some of the bad ones will literally make up a rule if they realize they've made a mistake. I once got called for high sticking because a dude hit himself in the face with his own stick. They have no sense of how to keep a game under control. When things get out of hand, they usually start calling penalties on the wrong team. A ref once tried to fight my team's captain instead of calming down a situation. Another one sent my teammate to the box for asking him a polite question about a penalty, then smiled and laughed when a dude on the other team cursed him out and threatened to kill his family. Again, it pays to be buddies with the staff. In short, this place sucks, but at least you don't pay much for the privilege. I keep playing there because I do enjoy hockey and I'm a cheap bastard. But if you have the means, I strongly recommend Marple Sports Arena or literally any other rink in the area. read more

Terrible complex and ran terribly. First of all it's absolutely filthy. There's mouse feces and grime everywhere. Plus the place has a horrid odor. It's like they've never heard of air circulation. If you play a sport there, there is no where to get changed. It's either you change on the bleachers for everyone to see, or you have to walk back behind the rinks to change in these DIY quickly thrown together wooden rooms which have nails sticking out of the walls. I guarantee this place would be shut down within 5 minutes if a code inspector took a look at it. It's also outrageously expensive. It's $150 for 10 games of hockey, which doesn't sound expensive but when you consider it's a running clock, the games are over in 45 minutes tops. They could definitely make it cheaper, since they charge you for 2 refs a game and more than half the time you only get one. Plus the refs are ridiculously inconsistent. One ref allowed a goal on a net that was pushed sideways because "our own player knocked it off". Anyone who knows the rules of hockey knows that this is not true. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Find somewhere else or save your money. read more

I've been involved with the 422 SportsPlex as a player, coach, and parent for over 7 years, and I can tell you that the facility and staff has never been better. Both the youth and adult inline programs are top notch. The facility is always busy with lots of activities going on. My kids and I love going to the facility, and we are there at least 3 times a week. Thanks for being a fun, safe environment for my family! read more
