Convenient location near UW Stout - their hogie sandwiches are offered hot or cold with multiple meat and topping options. The hogie bread isn't too think. Their soup options rotate - I loved the chicken dumpling and tomato basil. They also have coffee and ice cream - I tried their coffee flavored ice cream and it was delish! Excellent, fresh food served quickly. If you're here for the food alone, you'll be satisfied. The service, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. We came in as a group of 10 and moved two tables so we could sit together. Rather than a polite conversation, we got a sharp scolding from staff, followed by a taped-up, handwritten sign behind us saying "Please do NOT move tables. Thanks," as if we were an exhibit on what NOT to do. Several staff were visibly annoyed, tossing down food and muttering complaints within earshot. It's a strange psychological dynamic: expecting customers to follow unwritten rules, then resenting them when they can't read your mind. Also, talking about people behind their backs while still expecting their business? That's a bold move for a place that supposedly values community. Their reason? That their old wood floors might be damaged--which is ironic considering the floors already look like they've seen better decades. Great food, but the vibe soured the experience. A classic nostalgic must stop for Menomonie! Graduating from UW-Stout years ago was an incredible experience and aiding to that experience was the coffee house and sandwich shop which is Acoustic Cafe. I recently revisited the town and am pleased to announce the menu has rarely altered which means all the same items I grew up on still exist! Ordering takes place standing up and the food will get delivered to your table. I recommend the half hoagie sandwich because it's basically a foot long cut in half and is a very good size. There are varying meats you can use or even hummus and an amazing sauce drizzled on top. Don't sleep on the nachos either as they come smothered in cheese with optional salsa and sour cream on the side (yes, I recommend getting both). Typically there are rotating soups advertised on the big chalk board and the chili is a classic one that I enjoy. As far as drinks go, there are all the standard coffee ones and even ice cream. The ambiance is warm and friendly. There is beautiful natural lighting and greenery spread across the entire space. Come enjoy! You will leave with a smile for sure. read more

Great independent sub shop located near the university that we literally stumbled upon (with the help of other yelpers of course) as we were determined not to have another fast food lunch along the highway on our way back to Minneapolis from Madison. Menu is a bit confusing but we ended up each getting a sub that had some amazing sauce/oil on it that was not like anything else I've had in the "sub category" - in fact it is a disservice to even call it a sub as it was close to the best sandwich I've had in a long, long time. Will definitely have to keep this one in mind for our next road trip. read more

I've been coming here for years now. Overall, sandwiches are always good. Always. Bread is so so so good, I get hoagies with everything on it and it's so perfect. Coffee is not good there tbh. I've conferred with friends and they agree-- I'm not crazy. I don't like the nachos, I don't really like their soups too much (the chicken wild rice is pretty yummy tho). I literally just come here for the sandwiches and that alone is enough to give this place 4 stars. Oh their hot chocolate and apple cider are also amazing!!! Hot chocolate especially is very comforting on cold Wisconsin nights :--) water is not free you have to pay for bottled water. Sad. Some of the student staff are really nice, but the older people who work are kinda mean... one time a friend and I got food and drinks and spent over $25 (a lot for a college student lol) and a third friend was studying with us. This friend had to use the bathroom and the staff asked "uh.. are you going to BUY something..?" And then finally let her go to the bathroom. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I love the acoustic cafe! I've been frequenting here since the start of my undergrad in 2011. The hoagies are stupendous and I always get the raspberry French soda. If not that, they have awesome lemonade and local root beer! They also serve local IPAs and other beers. My only complaint is that the owners frequently come off very crabby and it's rather off-putting. The quality of food and atmosphere makes up for it though. read more

You can mix and match the choices with their deals for 1/2 salad 1/2 soup, or 1/3, 1/2 or full hoagies, etc. They also have delicious smoothies and ice cream! Their bakery items are so good as well! I got the cranberry white chocolate scone and chocolate chip banana bread. The scone was my favorite! I don't live in Menomonie, just work there at Stout, so I don't really know all that the town has to offer. My guess is that Acoustic is probably one of the better places to get a bite to eat or a coffee. I'm not a big coffee fan, but do like a café au lait with sugar. The only thing I've not liked is that their hot sandwiches are microwaved, which makes the bread limp. However, I think I'm an old 30-year old fuddy duddy and that this place is probably good with the kids, with their rock and roll music and long hair. I do like the building in which they're located. I think it's a former Masonic temple. The place is old, wooden, and has a gas fireplace, which is nice to sit by in the winter. Large glass windows face two streets, so it's still bright enough despite the dark decor. read more

The atmosphere is pretty neat and cozy. It seems like a nice place to work on some homework or relax and read a book for a bit. The music is trendy and isn't too loud or too quiet. Perfect place for a conversation with some friends. I didn't eat anything, but I had a cold press iced coffee with caramel flavoring and it was pretty tasty. Amazing experience as we were passing through town for lunch on a Saturday! The gentleman taking our order was top notch - walked through menu options and accommodations to appease children, put my fountain soda in a to go cup so I could enjoy the rest on our drive to Minneapolis, and had a smile the entire time! Went to this cafe yesterday for the first time and loved it. The portions are huge, and for only $4.60 you can get half a hoagie (which should be considered a full sand which) because it's cut into two rather large portions. The prices are very reasonable and the hoagies come with a great combo of toppings, including their "special sauce" you just tell them what kinda of meat you would like and what you don't want on the sand which.
