Review Visit: November 14th, 2024 Maybe not THAT grand... The short trip to Eau Claire was coming to a close and I needed some food before I hit the road home. Around the corner from where Tim lives is a cafe he's been to a few times. We took the short stroll there to get some breakfast and coffee in us. We popped in after the major breakfast crowd and before the lunch crowd made the small cafe packed. We took a seat towards the front by the window so we could get some natural light to go with our meal. Our waitress was a hoot. She was professional but really chatty and we all quickly got on the topic of horror movies, spooky things, and the love for reading. I got the house coffee with a biscotti stick to go with it. Tim got a latte thing. The waitress forgot my biscotti but quickly brought it over when I asked her about it. As for our meal, I ordered just the french toast and Tim got a full course meal. I wanted to eat somewhat light as I had the long drive but... when I say I got french toast... it was the most basic two slices of french toast I've ever had. It ended up tasting decent but for $8.49, it just felt like it needed to some with a side of protein or eggs or something. Tim said his The Grand Gatsby and Bread Pudding was good, even if he doesn't care for Mango, which is what his Bread Pudding flavor was. The biscotti was really good, even better dipped in the coffee. The coffee itself was your typical drip coffee that you'd find across the country. Not great but not bad. It served it purpose. While it was a bit of a letdown that my last meal before heading home was less than stellar but the memories made at the cafe (and the whole trip) are one you can't put a rating on. With that in mind, if we visit here again in 2025, I will definitely get a more substantial meal than two meager slices of french toast. read more

My wife and I stopped in here during our latest trip to Eau Claire. It appears to be on a street that time kind of forgot, but it's the cutest place. It would fit right in as a movie set for a love story. It's laid back and a perfect spot for a nice chill lunch. Anyway, GAC is very literature themed, from the wall border (book spines) to it's sandwich names such as the Scarlett Pumpernickel and Tale of Two Chickens. We swung in here for lunch based on our criteria of non-chain, highly rated on yelp and proximity to us. I ordered the Scarlett Pumpernickel sandwich with a side of their Soup du Jour (Minnesota Wild Rice) and my wife got the Pesto Chicken Salad. Both were amazing. The soup was hearty and filling, and my sandwich was just as good as it's description: grilled slices of tender corned beef, spicy dijon mustard, sauerkraut & melted swiss on pumpernickel bread. My mouth is watering just thinking back to it. My wife's dish was absolutely loaded with chicken and the pesto chicken was delicious. The other salad ingredients were very fresh. They also have a ton of flavored coffees, which I didn't try. That's just not my thing. America needs more eateries like this. I'm sure there are thousands, but maybe I just need to find them. So, the next time you're in Eau Claire and need to grab a bit, head over towards the UWEC campus to slow down and grab some food. read more

I grab breakfast here about once a month. I am a firm believer that they still make the best eggs Benedict in town. The Hollandaise sauce is smooth and well seasoned, the poached eggs are always done correctly, and the service is always good. They do occasionally have issues with staffing, which can create some delays in terms of getting service. But generally speaking the service is quick, efficient, and unobtrusive. read more

Servers were nice but almost MIA. The coffee was awful (think weaker than Denny's) and the cream came in a bunch of little containers. The iced latte was obviously just cold weak coffee over ice, and the latte cost NINE FIFTY (oatmilk was subbed for a dollar). The french toast was extremely mediocre and the hashbrowns were not good and a very small portion. The butter also came in little packets. So wasteful and odd, seeing as this is a breakfast place. Nestled in a small old town shop at the outskirts of downtown Eau Claire's tourist district, the grand avenue is quiet ,cozy breakfast favorite. The crowd is a mix of older retirees and families. They offer a wide variety of speciality coffee and tea options as well as house blends. The location is a bit cramped in practice, but warm and inviting. The wait staff often calls their patrons by their first names, which exemplifies their ability to maintain repeat business. I will typically get the standard eggs, bacon, toast & coffee. This runs around $7 and I can expect to be eating within 10 minutes or so. If you are looking for a "staple" location for breakfast that is better than McDonald's, this is one of those spots. It's also just down the street from the court in house, a historic pub in Eau Claire. I might recommend getting breakfast here and walking half a block down for a bloody marry. read more

This is not really a fair rating about the Grand Cafe. Yelp reported it was open on Sunday, but it really isn't. Rural Sundays don't seem to be eating time in the rural U. S. We left I-94 thinking we wanted to try local Eau Claire fare, but no such luck. read more

I had a very positive experience at Grand Avenue during the three visits that I have had. Their seasonal almond joy drink was terrific I also love that they are being very considerate of folks during the Coronavirus season. I also really liked their home made granola, and I was able to keep it stored for a while to add to my morning yogurt and oats! My lady friend also got their chai latte and she was a big fan! They also play very good music at this place and the staff genuinely cares. I am looking forward to coming here more and more. read more

I like to support local businesses and this place is a quaint little cafe that focuses on fresh ingredients but our experience with the flavor, quality, cost, and quantity was not great. My husband, daughter, and I went here for breakfast. I chose the broccoli, red pepper, and cheddar quiche, my husband chose the eggs Benedict, and our daughter had the French toast. All three of us were not entirely pleased with the flavor or quality of our meals. Mine was luke warm and I had to put quite a bit of salt and pepper to enhance any flavor. My husband stated the eggs Benedict was doused in the sauce and it was too rich and the French toast was made of pretty thin slices of toast and my daughter said it didn't really have a great flavor. The price of each of our meals was a lot higher than we thought the quality and flavor delivered. For the two pieces of French toast they charge $8.95 and nothing else included in that. Mine cost $8.45 and the eggs Benedict was also $8.95 and didn't include potatoes or toast. read more

I always enjoy coming to this location in Eau Claire for breakfast but today was lunch. We each had an excellent entree as well as beverages. The Moby Tuna on a croissant with a slice of cheddar cheese, fresh tomato, romaine lettuce with a lemon and dill drizzle was perfect. Light and airy sandwich for a muggy day. The iced mocha frappé was the perfect pick me up today. The cheesy cauliflower soup had broken and was only like warm at best. Reheating did not help and made it worse. The grilled cheese with onions, mushrooms, mozzarella and cheddar cheese on pumpernickel bread was excellent. Minus the tomato but like them cold were left off by choice. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and sat at a table. At that time thier was only about 4 tables filled with customers. When we left they were customers waiting out the door to be sat. This told us we picked the best place. However, the food spoke for itself! We had some amazing coffees to start, then we both orderd different sandwiches to try that we split. I went with a sandwich called How We Won the West! It was a smoked turkey with peppercorn corned beef, with swiss, romaine lettace, tomato, mayo, horseradish sauce on fresh pumpernickel bread! Mmmmm. My wife had the Great Expectation sandwich which was like a turkey blt on fresh cranberry bread. Oh my word. I ended up having a very fresh side salad with my sandwichand the wife.had kettle chips. For dessert we decided to take home some cranberry bread pudding with some homemade butter sauce. This place is awesome. What a cute little gem of a place off the beaten path in Eau Claire! We stopped for a late lunch and were warmly greeted by the employees. Most everything seemed homemade including the Wild Rice soup I enjoyed with a side of fresh bread. My husband also had the Wild Rice soup, which was really hearty and well seasoned and a half of sandwich. Our server was very pleasant and attentive and made our experience even more enjoyable. It's our first time dining in since Dec 2019, and I felt safe and taken care of. Seating was limited to 4 tables, in the 4 corners of the restaurant, more than 6' apart. We tried the bread pudding, it knocked my socks off! Once we got through the mountains of tastebud tantalizing deliciousness. We watched a server from inside escort an elderly customer and what may have been his adult granddaughter to the curbside so he could safely enter the passenger seat.
