I had high hopes for this place because of great reviews. Why this place got anything above a 2 star is beyond me!!! My mother and I had a TERRIBLE time here with serious lack of service, the poor quality of afternoon tea and food. First of all, I indicated that we were doing Mother's day couple of days late So I requested a private, good table for tea on the phone as well as on Open Table. We had a reservation at 2:30, so we got to Allis around 2:22. No one was available at the front, and 3 servers were all passing us by and just staring for about 10 minutes. The bell desk agent at the Soho House stepped in and said "you know, by now, it's probably good idea to just choose your own seating." I said I have a afternoon tea reserved, and had to hail down a server. She proceeded to ask for my name, checked it on the tablet, and proceeded to give me a lunch menu. I told her we are there for Afternoon tea, and she goes "oh" and gets new menus. Then she asks me to wait to have the table prepped. This was now about 15 min after our arrival. There were hardly any people, and only 2 tables of 1-2 people on the first floor eating or drinking. Few others were just lounging with their laptops (so, no. They were NOT busy). Then we were escorted upstairs where we were seated right by the stairs. Not private, not cozy, and kind of dirty. Apparently there is some remodeling going on on the second floor, so the whole time we had to listen to banging, sawing, hammers, drills, etc. about 15 ft away from our table in front of their kitchen!!!! We had to hail down a server, who didnt greet or come to us, order and never get our food, just our tea. Asked for our food and was only given for one person, then hail down a Manager who went to check and brought us the second person's food after 25 minutes of the first one. Never refilled on any water or tea water, the food was dried up and gross, the tea was tea bag (yuck). We barely had 1/3 of the meal and asked for our check. I was so angry that the whole experience was just in the toilet, but my mom was too nice to say anything to such crappy day....I felt terrible for insisting on trying this excuse for a restaurant. I came home only to get an email from Open Table saying "sorry you did not make it to Allis". What???? They didn't even mark that right....and I had to make a formal complaint to OT for the seriously lack of service and the worst quality of service and food I experienced in a very long time. We ended up asking for table from a non-host, asking a bar cleaning server to please take our order, get our food from another runner, asking for my food from a manager, and ask for check from yet ANOTHER person. Seriously, the WORST experience ever. I regret even trying this place, and those of you who thought the afternoon tea and food is even decent here should REALLY try a real high tea. I recommend Drake or Peninsula hotels for these. This place is absolutely not worth it. read more

Gluten Free Review: went to Sunday brunch here & it was great! They did not have a specific gluten free menu, but the staff was very knowledgeable about what could be made gluten free and what could not. They had gluten free bread, so almost any entree on the menu could be adjusted to be gluten free. I ended up going with the gluten free eggs Florentine. My entire party & I all enjoyed our food. Give me a gorgeous space to relax. One that's decorated with a perfect blend of industrial chic and opulent lavish decor. Give me all the velvet couches and tufted armchairs. Give me crystal chandeliers and mid century modern sconces mounted on unfinished concrete walls. Give me books and candles. Give me bars to sit at that makes me feel like I'm in a romantic film or novel from the 60's. Give me the option for a pot of many different varieties of loose teas and high tea service, some drip coffee, a stiff cocktail for happy hour, nosh, even a fresh pressed juice if I so desire. And I'm in love!! This place was the loveliest, most "Instagrammable" spot to escape for afternoon tea with my daughter on a crisp, rainy autumn day. It was perfect! So much that I didn't want to leave. EVER!! While the $45 pretty little tower of tea cakes and pettifores looked so delectable, I've been watching my sugar and opted for just coffee, but made sure to make a mental note of it for another date and time! My daughter indulged in a modern white ceramic pot of the chocolate banana tea, which has no caffeine making it a perfect choice for the littles. Not to mention it tasted like a melted chocolate bar!! It was unreal! I wish they would've sold some containers of it and think they should definitely consider doing so. She also enjoyed a flaky croissant glimmering with butter. She was a happy kiddo and had some tea leftover, which they gladly poured and refreshed in a to-go cup for her. I on the other has an espresso Americano. It was actually a tad too bitter, which is hard to believe as espresso is already bitter and I usually like it! Having just spent the summer in Europe, I may have been a tad spoiled there....with the price as well. $4 for the espresso cup, $4 for the croissant. Oh yes, I'm not in Europe anymore. The days of .90 croissants and €1 cups of espresso are long gone. I was a tad taken a back at first when I received my check but the ambiance and service was so top notch, I wound up not caring at all. This is such a wonderful place for so many things...to get some reading or work done, have a first date, meet up for happy hour, pre-night out cocktails and more! They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch and high tea. I love the versatility! They also have live music every Tuesday from 6pm - 9pm and Happy Hour Monday thru Thursday from 3pm-6pm. If I lived in town, you would definitely catch me here hiding out any and every chance I could! I'm definitely coming back for one of their tempting cocktails and some brunch, which looks delish. I wish I could come back for their tea time, but I ordered the smoked salmon bagel, it was $15 a little high price but it came with a lot of smoked salmon, and my friend got the eggs and toast with smoked salmon on the side for an extra $6. The Allis is a lovely little brunch spot. We had a party of 6 and no reservation but were still able to get seated, so props to them for great customer service. The seating is cozy and comfortable and the whole aesthetic is wonderfully put together and perfect for a bit of a bougie brunch. Service was fast friendly. The food itself is pretty good, my only complaint is the protein comes in small portions. The smoked salmon is not too salty when eaten with the rest of the meal and everything is plated beautifully. I had really high hopes for the Allis, it having been on my to-go list for a while. I went on a Tuesday at 11:30 for lunch with three others, and the place was pretty empty though there were quite a few people on the ground floor doing work and getting coffee. I got the lunch combo with the leafy green salad and the haloumi cauliflower and both were so good. I'm usually not the type to go for a vegetarian option, but I'd get this again and again. While it didn't seem like a lot of food, the combo turned out to be really filling and was definitely enough for lunch. While the space and food were both great, I was a bit disappointed by the service. We rarely saw our server during our meal and when we were able to flag her down to ask for something she would sometimes forget, making us have to wait even longer. I would understand if the place was packed, but considering how few people were there I was pretty surprised. I've been here twice for brunch, once for afternoon tea, and once for dinner. Service has always been great - they are attentive, friendly, and willing to answer all questions about the menu. Brunch - the dishes and the restaurant itself are very photo-worthy. Their offerings are not SUPER unique but they are pretty good! I've gotten the Allis breakfast, which was super healthy and had a lot of variety. I've also had the egg white sandwich alone which was very very filling and good as well. Afternoon tea - this is probably the least pricey afternoon tea in Chicago. I do recall thinking the assortment was kind of small but I think it is reasonable given the price. I do remember enjoying it but nothing really stood out to me. Dinner - I was quite disappointed. The dishes were not as tasty as the brunch menu items, in addition to not being very unique. Cool spot for a drink, it's really cute inside. They have a bar downstairs and a seating area for dinner as well. There is also an upstairs with another bar and more seating. Very spacious. We stopped in for a quick drink. I got "A lady never tells," which was sweet and really easy to drink. The flavors reminded us of jolly ranchers almost. My choice, the refreshing Mallorca Melon, tantalized my tastebuds with sweet notes of citrus and melon. Lovely. Shortly after receiving our tea, we relished an assortment of savory finger sandwiches and satisfying desserts. From the tangy lemon tart to the rich chocolate cake, the scrumptious food complimented the tea well, and was just enough for two people to share. On Saturday, my friend and I tried the sparking afternoon tea at The Allis. This place has been on my bucket list for the longest time. The place was nicely decorated and had lots of big chandeliers. Kind of like 19th Century hotel meets old industrial warehouse. To drink: I had the wild chai chocolate banana tea, which was very light and tasted like drinking banana bread. I think this is my new favorite tea. I also had sparkling rose´, which looked very pretty. Plate 1 had sandwiches: Salmon, egg salad, and cucumber. I think the salmon and cucumber were my favorites on this plate. Plate 2 had scones with clotted cream and strawberry/raspberry jam, zucchini bread, and coconut macaron. The scone was my favorite on this plate. It was light and flaky, which was yummy. Plus it paired nicely with the light clotted cream and jam Plate 3 had desserts: creampuff with raspberries, rich chocolate cake, lemon curd tart, and a mini red velvet cupcake. My favorite was the lemon tart. It was very bright and lemony tasting. Overall, the food and tea were delicious! However, the only cons were the service (although two of the servers were very good). The main waiter was not very attentive. Also, the main waiter did not explaine how their afternoon tea works. My friend and I split one tea tray (consisting of 3 plates), but the food was just enough for one person. In other places and in London, tea tray would be perfect for two people. read more

A friend of mine saw this place on Instagram and I'm not saying that's why we ended up in Chicago, but... we did end up here for brunch at her insistence. Anyways, as the photos show, the Allis is gorgeous. The interior, which looks like it used to be a warehouse, features a chandelier-lined, two-story ceiling and shabby-chic furniture. (I must have counted 10 different styles of armchairs, each one plush and comfy!) We were seated upstairs, overlooking the main space, and what a view it was. With the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows and the sounds of laughter and chatter as everyone enjoyed their meals, I could not think of a more perfect brunch setting. The food itself was excellent as well. I ordered the shrimp and grits special, which was one of the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. The polenta, made with white corn, was creamy, smooth, and perfectly seasoned. There were maybe 6 big shrimps - definitely a generous portion. And the poached egg, though I would have preferred it with a runny yolk, was a lovely topping. The shrimps were coated in what tasted like pesto, and with the generous dusting of red pepper flakes, the shrimp and grits tasted almost like how I imagine Italians would interpret the dish. The Allis should add it to the regular menu so everyone can enjoy it all the time! Service was friendly and fairly attentive. The waiter came by to check in on us a few times, and he noticed that my fork wasn't really jiving with the shrimp and grits and brought over a spoon. I did feel that the brunch menu was a bit limited - just about every dish was some riff on eggs (egg sandwich, eggs benedict, french toast, shakshuka, eggs any style...I basically just listed their whole menu), and if they hadn't had the shrimp and grits special, I'm not sure what I would have gotten (probably something eggy). One of my favorite places to get coffee/tea, do work and catch up with friends in the city, especially in the winter. The Allis is so cozy and chic with a intimate but vibrant ambience. I've been here multiple times for different occasions: high tea, brunch, dinner and coffee. I highly recommend getting any of the teas and pastry; however the brunch foods I had were nothing amazing and a bit pricey so I suggest sticking with what they are known for. The high tea experience was very lovely and at $45 a person, very reasonable compared to other high teas in the city. I chose the chocolate tea and it was so delicious and actually tasted like a light hot chocolate if you add a tiny bit of cream and sugar. Other call outs are the finger sandwiches and lemon tart. I'm had dinner here before too and I really enjoyed the whole roasted cauliflower which was so tender, flavorful and filling and the French Onion soup which was filled with Guyere cheese and crunchy croutons. My one main complaint is that although there are always many servers working at all times, service can be slow and disorganized. For example, on multiple occasions they have forgotten to give someone at my table silverware or it would be hard to get someone's attention but I see a group of servers standing there talking to each other. read more

Located in the Soho House hotel, The Allis is one cool spot. The space is simply amazing; the high ceilings, large crystal chandeliers, floor to ceiling windows add an air of sophistication. The modern art on the exposed brick walls helps to balance things out to create an environment like no other. The ambiance is perfect for sipping tea, a cup of coffee, pressed juices or even a craft cocktail or two. You decide, as it's all available here. In addition to an array of beverages there are light meals and pastries on the menu. On my visit I went with the craft cocktails (of course I did) and was not disappointed. The Soho Mule was quite tasty; made with 42 Below Vodka, house made ginger syrup, soda and ginger candy. The ginger candy adds a nice twist to the drink. I also tried the Eastern Standard (Grey Goose, lime, sugar, cucumber, mint) which was refreshing. Service is just what one would expect of place like this; friendly and attentive. Favorite meal=Afternoon Tea! While I try to find any excuse to inject caffeine into my body, I think I may like the actual sandwiches and sweets at tea better than tea itself. The Peninsula is usually my go to for afternoon tea, but I recently decided to switch it up for tea at The Allis. The Allis is located within the Soho House and the only dining area that non members can enjoy. Their Afternoon Tea may be the best deal in town at $24/person ($32 if you include a glass of prosecco). In comparison High Tea at the Peninsula is $55/person ($68 with prosecco). The sandwiches, sweets, tea and prosecco were all very tasty. My only complaint was the stomach ache I had later that evening for eating way too much. The atmosphere is a bit more casual than some other High Tea hotel experiences, but still great. Unfortunately, they aren't able to do a table for more than 15 people with the way they were set up, but did their best to accommodate my party of 18. Looking forward to trying other meals (and of course more tea time) at The Allis. Based on tea here and food in the members only restaurant at the Soho House I'm sure it won't disappoint. read more

I was meeting a friend here last week Tuesday & the overall atmosphere is always phenomenal. Of course, I was STARVING so I decided to go with the grilled cheese & fries. The waiter had mixed up my order so I had gotten a salad which was fine but the waiter also mixed up my friends order too. Maybe it was just an off day but they were able to accommodate to us accordingly. You will definitely get a mixed group of people but sometimes the people here are a little iffy.. We were sitting next to gentlemen who were completely bashing groups of individuals loudly next to us and the other side we were sitting next to normal businessmen who were very polite. Its always going to be a tossup when it comes to the crowd but with the ambience as beautiful as this of course you will have to test your luck. I would say if you want to bring more business.. definitely try for earlier in the day so people aren't as drunk and obnoxious. They DO have a check in offer for 2 free cookies (which is ALWAYS a plus). The interior decoration immediately took my breath away when we walked in. I wanted to take photos like a basic b for a while, but resisted to remain somewhat cool. I was expecting some oven-baked Brussel sprouts drenched in olive oil, but instead got it shredded with some cranberries. Say no to cranberries. When we walked in, the ambiance was so dreamy we were literally just in awe. They had dimly lit lights and just beautiful decor. While the space was big, the seating seemed rather limited or reserved. We got really lucky and were seated immediately at a table upstairs. We wanted something light before dinner and so we split a meat and cheese board between three people. I can't say I'm a connoisseur of any of the meats or cheeses so I'm just going to say there was a wide variety and everything tasted good. This is probably the worst restaurant I've been to in Chicago. Despite the glamour of soho house, the service was terrible. Water was never served, dishes were never cleared, and the waitress failed to do the bare minimum. When our food came out, our waitress Angelica forgot to place the order of our pizza. She denied that it was her mistake and was very rude towards us, telling us we did not place the order. I've never been gaslit at a restaurant before. When I complained to the host, Angelica came up and confronted me. I explained my disappointment, especially since it was a birthday dinner for my best friend, and she continued to give an attitude, rolled her eyes, and insisted she was not "being rude". Besides the service, the food was mediocre at best anyway, so I definitely don't recommend coming here. Maybe stop by for a drink at the bar but that's it. Wondering if you should try this place out? Well you better! There is no place like this in Chicago...it's beautiful with a line of gorgeous chandeliers across the whole restaurant! There's an open bar to the right when you enter and to your left are the couches/tables that you sit on On the right and left side of The Allis are two other restaurants, one's a chicken shop place and the other is a pizza place! Anyways, this place is beautiful and so well put together and elegant and just plain cute! My cousin, two sisters, a friend, and I went on Valentine's Day, and reserved for the Afternoon tea which was great with savory and sweet finger foods! So the tea platter special was so cute and actually kept me full without giving me that bloaty feeling! There were three finger sandwiches - egg/cucumber/salmon, there were also a bunch of two-bite desserts that were all fantastic and scrumptious! I swear this place makes you feel like your British and that you are a part of the royal family just having a casual lunch The service was great and was very glad to share more information about our platter and explain anything we needed to know! After walking around the Randolph Market for a couple of hours, my friend and I were hungry for a late lunch. The menu outside of this place caught our eye, so we decided to walk in. When it comes to eating out, I normally insist on making a reservation on Open Table if the restaurant accepts them. Due to the fact that our decision to eat at the Allis was last minute, I didn't make a reservation. The host on the first floor told us to sit downstairs, then a waiter came up to us and told us that those seats might be reserved and to go up stairs. The host upstairs asked if we had a reservation for afternoon tea, and then gave us a weird look when we said "no", and then took us back downstairs. Moral of the story: Make sure you make a reservation if you are coming here, even if it is 3pm in the afternoon and they aren't super busy. The food and tea here was fantastic. My friend and I each got brunch entrees, and I loved my smoked salmon and bagel platter. The smoked salmon was really fresh, and there was plenty of it on the plate. The bagel was also pretty good. I had the bourbon chai tea, and I was quite satisfied with this as well. The dessert towers that the waiters were carrying around looked delicious, and my friend and I would like to come back for tea and dessert sometime. In the beginning of our meal, the service was very quick, but our waiter disappeared after we got our meal. When we wanted our check, it was difficult to get the attention of any waiter. This aspect was a little annoying, and I am mostly only subtracting a star because of this aspect of my visit. read more

We came here for a Galentine's afternoon tea, and it was so cute and aesthetic in here! From the second I walked in, I knew it was a good choice for galentine- all the girlies were here and dressed up! And I love any excuse to dress up. We did the sparkling afternoon tea option, and got to try so many teas since all 4 of us got different ones! The tea set was so cute too, it made me want to buy one myself! My favorite was the yuzu peach green tea, but we also got the earl grey, oolong, and mint. We also got brut and rose, and the pours were generous! The towers were great too! I do wish there were some more savory options, since my favorite part were the little finger sandwiches but that was only one level. The salmon & cream cheese sandwich was probably my favorite for savory, and for the sweets the banana flavored dessert was great! I could eat it all the time! Visited the Allis on a Friday night after some happy hour drinks. The environment is amaazzzinngggg. It feels like you're sitting in a cross between a rustic library and a roaring 20's lounge. Would definitely recommend at least checking out the bar just for the vibes. Right off the bat I've gotta say there aren't very many options for us vegans (sadnessss), but there was a roasted cauliflower dish (ask for no yogurt!). It was probably the best cauliflower I've had in my life. Topped with capers and some sort of pesto and mint it was incredible. The roasted flavor penetrated deep into the cauliflower rather than remaining only on the exterior, and the entire cauliflower was soft all the way through. There cannot be enough said about the Allis at the SOHO. The dark wooden cabinetry, Violet velvet chairs, blue floral porcelain chinaware and chandelier light fixtures are my definition of class. Allis is a great lounge for enjoying artisan tea over finger treats. The basic afternoon tea consists of three trays of bit sized egg salad, cucumber+cream cheese, salmon sandwiches, banana cake, macaron, lemon tart, scone, chocolate layered cake and more! You can't go wrong with their loose leaf tea selection. All are a great selection. We enjoyed the hot chocolate pu'er and almond green tea very much. Will be coming back for more. read more

We traveled from Wisconsin to come here for my birthday and were so DISAPPOINTED in the afternoon tea. I have 6 people with me, but one person was diary free so we did the sparkling afternoon tea for 5 people which was $76 per person before taxes and tips ($400+ total). Our afternoon tea food were all packed into ONLY ONE tier stand (see pics). Since we were seated at a long table and only had one tier stand with all our food, there were several of us who couldn't reach and had to get up every time we wanted food. Were they too lazy to give us another tier stand or did they not want to do the dishes???? Our 6th person order her own separate meal which they forgot and we had to ask them to bring it out. Spending $500+ here was not worth it while you could probably get a better experience elsewhere. I would not recommend coming here with a group unless you want to keep getting up from your seat for food. read more

I came here for brunch with friends over the weekend. Although we arrived early, the Allis has a policy of sticking to reservation times. After hanging out at the bar for about 20 min, we were ushered to our table. The decor at The Allis is beautiful and reminds me for a cozy library. Although the menu was not extensive, there are definitely some good options. I did find it bizarre that we were told that all of the juice offerings had expired. It sounded like a case of poor planning, especially for the weekend service. We ended up ALL deciding on the Avocado toast and different sides. I chose a side of smoked salmon, which tasted very fresh and was definitely enough to share with the table. The avocado toast was also great. Overall, the Allis was a pretty solid brunch spot. read more

Had afternoon tea here for my birthday yesterday. Let's get the obvious out of the way. This place is gorgeous. It's an aesthetic dream and if you're into Instagram you're going to get some sick shots. When the sun hits those chandeliers GIRL! There's a great tea selection, even some iced options, and they all sounds really delicious. We did the sparkling tea service which comes with a glass of delicious rosé prosecco served in an decorative coupe. That alone is a photo worth taking if you've got some great nails! The tea service comes with finger sandwiches, zucchini bread, chocolate cake, macaroons, lemon tarts, red velvet cupcakes and some other things I can't remember but were very tasty! Everything was delicious and it fun to sit and sip and chat. One of everything for each person! The only issue we had was with the service. It's honestly below standard and way below what you'd expect for anything related to soho house. First, at what I believe is their check in desk, under the quote, which is the first thing you see upon entering off of Green. We were greeted and asked the guy where we check in for a reservation at the Allis, he said we'd go over there to the host stand, I looked and saw no host and pointed to a low table with a laptop on it but no host, and asked if that's what he meant. A girl then chimes in, not looking at me, or at the host less host stand and says "yes the host stand" a little too snippy for my taste considering she wasn't the one helping us and her comment was unnecessary. It was my birthday and I was in a good mood so I said thanks to the guy and walked over. My issue with this is that the whole place is just cute furniture laid out to look like a casual place to hang and not a restaurant. The host desk could've been someone's workstation ! Next we were seated and our server came up to pour water and spilled a significant amount onto the glass table and never cleaned it up. Then a runner brought our drinks and sloshed them as well and still no one came back to wipe up the mess? It was weird because it was a significant amount of spillage but okay. In addition, orders were wrong, our server clocked out and never told us and left us waiting to receive our check for a solid 30 minutes before we even realized she was gone for good. I have been here multiple times. I like their food and atmosphere. My favorites are their coconut pudding and the French toast. One thing that always confuses me is where to check in with the host. They had it right by the stairways one time and other time was right after you pass those big 2 doors. read more

Went here to grab dinner on a rainy night and I'm so glad we did! The Allis very cozy and intimate. The space is very unique and the high ceilings and chandeliers add a lot of character. I love the roasted chicken and shishito peppers! Both were very unique and flavorful. I was very satisfied with the entree and appetizer ordered. The menu is very limited so I'd be sure to check it out prior to coming here for dinner. It looks like they have afternoon teas here, which sounds like a fun place to go for! I would definitely come back for that and to check out the brunch menu since that also seems to be a popular thing at the Allis. Parking is a bit scarce since there are a lot of restaurants in the west loop (mostly paid for parking that is $4.00 for 2 hours). There is valet parking, but it is pricey at $16. read more
