Last Christmas, I purchased a gift card for my wife for Spa sessions at The Allison Inn and Spa. I've had my eye on the place ever since I heard they offered quality facilities and services. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor, and this time, 5 years ago, had gone through a double mastectomy, and then some major reconstruction surgery after that, earlier in the year. I wanted to give her some quality time at the best spa in the region. Our daughter, who recently moved to the area from Virginia, made plans to go with her since she practically lived in spas back in VA and wanted to check out this local Spa. My daughter owns her own business and was in a busy time of year so it took them months to settle on a day when they could both enjoy the day together. The day before they were to go, my daughter was called away on an urgent trip out of the country. The Allison Spa has a 48-hour cancellation policy but we explained this was truly an emergency on my daughter's part. We even offered to show them her plane ticket for her trip. I can understand the business reason for a cancellation policy, employees are brought in to serve clients, space is made available for scheduled guests, it is important in order to make a business run smoothly. It is also a business decision to allow or deny someone not wanting to have to pay the penalty for cancelling an appointment the day before the appointment. That decision that day cost them probable monthly visits from my daughter, and being crossed off my list of places I would recommend people to go to enjoy quality spa services. My wife loved the massage she received and said Sydny was amazing; however, my wife is 5' tall, she had a very hard time in the hydro bath, slipping down in the tub to where she had to hold on to the side for almost the whole treatment to keep from going under. When the assistant came, her comment was: "I'll tell the management". There is a waiting area at the spa check-in counter for people waiting for the clients to come out from the Spa itself. I waited there for about a half hour knowing they would come get me when she came out. She had been out for almost that half hour and hadn't been told I was waiting, I was pretty much ignored. I know, I sound like a complainer, but this was supposed to be a special day, and it wasn't close to what I hoped it would be for her. The cancellation fee cut into her gift card package and she did not get the full benefit of it. I'm trying to be fair to the Allison, and actually my lunch there was excellent and the service and attitude of employees, with the exception of the Spa counter staff, throughout was excellent. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. However, I am extremely disappointed and still very upset with the treatment my wife, my daughter and I received from the Spa. I hope it was an anomaly for The Allison's sake. read more

The service was exceptional friendly, attentive, and one of the highlights of our experience. The wine selection was also impressive, with plenty of great options to choose from. The ambiance was pleasant, but it wasn't quite what we expected for a restaurant at this price point. As frequent visitors to luxury resorts and upscale dining establishments, we found the atmosphere a bit underwhelming. The food was beautifully plated and visually stunning, but unfortunately, the flavors didn't live up to the presentation. The fish was fresh and of good quality, but it was underseasoned and lacked flavor. Despite the quality of the ingredients, the dishes were bland and didn't leave much of an impression. Overall, the presentation reflected fine dining, but the taste simply didn't justify the price. We had a Thai salmon, aguachile and a ham and cheese board. While we appreciated the excellent service and attractive presentation, the food itself was disappointing. For us, the overall dining experience didn't deliver the value we expected. read more

Really a beautiful inn. Well appointed rooms, bed was really cozy and comfortable. Pool is indoor. There's outside seating. But, the pool and hot tub are inside. Spa was great and staff is very friendly. The inn is not for the faint of heart when the bill is presented. Be prepared for everything to be expensive. It's a high end place. I was a walk in for their restaurant tonight, party of one. Not the most sought after for them, but was in town on business and wanted a nice dinner. They have a "Chef's Table" that I thought would be nice since I am a single and you can watch them cook. Was told that would be 45 minutes to an hour, but their "Living Room" was available. Okay, sat there. Meal was very good, server nice and it is not her fault they tried to deliver food I didn't order to my table, clearly no Michelin star. Not the most comfortable table since more like a lounge, but okay. After dropping $230 on myself, what was annoying was the Chef's table was empty when I was leaving just like when I came in. WTF? I am not sure what happened this morning, but booked my mom for Mother's Day which also falls on her birthday 2 weeks ago- Celebrating today. We sat for 30 to 45 minutes before anyone coming to our table and had to call someone over. 15 minutes later we got coffee and water. The food was cold - they did bring us nice pastries as an apology but after sitting that long and having other time commitments- it made it hard to make it right. What happened?? Also no acknowledgment of her birthday which they normally do and why I book there (for the food and that she shares Mother's Day and her birthday on the same day I look for something special to make her feel special). Definitely the worst time I have or my family has been there. $250 plus later- rushed- service not on par- not worth it and will be looking elsewhere to make my mom feel special In the future. read more

Kaylea was chewing gum the entire time, of which I would consider unprofessional, especially since I have a hearing disability where that sound is triggering. Removal of the shellac on my sister's toes took almost half an hour. It should've been much quicker. Every time Kaylea talked, even if it was just friendly conversation, she stopped using her hands. The leg massage was only a few minutes, and my sister didn't even receive the heated booties. We were scheduled for 60 minutes and ended up only receiving approximately 50 minutes. The chairs did not have a heat or massage function, which every other salon I've been to has. About halfway through the treatment flies started circling. This hotel was delightful with walking paths, gardens and vineyards. They had a window seat that looked onto the grounds and a fireplace for the chilly nights. The bathroom was a good size with the tub away from the shower. Our room was nicely furnished. The mini refrigerator was an added bonus. They welcomed you with a snack basket and waters. They also had wine glasses and a wine opener. They provided daily room service and a nightly turn down service. Parking was nearby if you chose not to valet. Valet service was prompt. The check in process was quick and all the workers we came across were friendly and helpful. read more

Here for three days in the middle of our Willamette Valley trip. It is mid-September. The place is high-endy with many staff always ready to assist. We parked ourselves but there were valets all over, and checked into our room which was ready a bit early. We have a suite on the fourth floor looking East. We saw a couple of fabulous sunrises. We had a few dinners and some breakfasts while here. The food is wonderful all farm-to-table. They have a great lamb loin. The Marionberry jam with breakfast was unique. We were told you can find it all over the state. Service is top notch although we did experience a few issues at breakfast. They were all resolved satisfactorily. Managers are regularly checking in to see if we need anything or have any issues. Room service and housekeeping is top-notch. This is a very nice place with beautiful gardens, sculptures and other art everywhere. Very relaxing and refreshing. They have a Spa but we did not use it. There is a vineyard and winery on site, Rain Dance Vineyard and it was a short walk from our room. On our second morning we saw the grape harvest from our balcony. Pretty much the perfect spa. My small party and I loved everything about it. The occasion was a girlfriend's birthday, and she had previously stayed...and enjoyed the complementary spa facilities so much that she insisted we needed to as well. First thing in the morning the birds' songs were so impressive. One of the video clips records their amazing calls. The high-end amenities hit the spot in the morning: Nespresso coffee and espresso pods allowed us to sit in our bathrobes without having to leave the deep comfort of our room...cups in our hands as we sat in front of the fireplace and next to the window looking out at the beautiful vineyard that our balcony opened up to. The sense of ease and respite were amazing. There were delicious complementary snacks as part of our welcome. Some of us took a walk and discovered fresh quince hanging ripe on the trees outside. When we were done with our coffee, we slipped into the bathrobes and slippers provided and walked leisurely down to the spa area. The sound of the indoor fountains and visuals of the shallow rock pools were immediately mood setting. The spa staff were welcoming and informative: we decided we would just enjoy the sauna and a steam room. One of my favorite things were the iced face towels, waiting between the steam room in the sauna: they knew exactly what we would need. Staff are very attentive and replenished the cold towels regularly. One of the most satisfying things about the sauna was how much heat was generated when water was poured on the hot rocks. Real heat: not disappointingly tepid as some saunas can be. And the steam room was lavish with steam and the uplifting scent of eucalyptus. We spent the morning (2 1/2 hours) between those two complementary spa features, only coming out to cool down in the single-gender resting area, where we could enjoy some tea and order drinks, if desired. We didn't even make it to the indoor pool. I don't know of a better spot for the kind of experience we were able to indulge. I think that's the highest compliment I can pay. Honestly, the only thing that would be better is if the price could be a little more reasonable to be a little more affordable. At ~$600 a room we were only able to do one night. But in a heart beat we would've loved to be able to afford to stay another night. We promised each other we'd tried to come back next year. read more

I have to admit that reading through some of these reviews gave me pause. For a brief moment, I started to wonder if I'd make a mistake in booking a stay for our 15th anniversary. But I'm happy to report that all fears were erased immediately upon checking in and being escorted to our room. We arrived to the property at about 9pm so it was dark and we couldn't see much as far as the exterior goes. But we knew it was nice by how we were greeted by valet and the front desk and promptly escorted to our room. The valet provided us with a room tour and gave us all the information we needed to get settled in. We received a welcome amenity (bottle of wine) for our anniversary and a lovely card, as well as local chocolates filled with caramel. The snack basket was another highlight, filled with local goodies including Kettle Chips, which I had no idea were made locally in Salem, OR. The rooms are very generous in size with a wardrobe & large dresser drawers, robes & slippers, a nice dining area, a wet bar with a coffee machine & mini fridge, a seating area by the fireplace and a cozy window seat. The large windows and generous balcony provide tons of natural light. And lucky for us it was raining during our stay so we got to take advantage of the fireplace in August. The rain also made for a perfect spa day. I got to read my book in the women's lounge, seated right next to the patio so I was able to relax and hear the soothing sound of the rain. The spa is beautifully designed and very tranquil, with various water features throughout to create a relaxed ambience. I opted for a signature hydra facial and my husband got a joint & muscle rescue massage. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our spa services and connecting after in the coed lounge before retreating back to our room to get ready for dinner at the on-site restaurant (which I'll cover in a separate review). Upon checkout we decided to finally take a walk around the property. Because it's built into the hillside, there are some nice inclines and stairs that make fit a great workout. The paved trails are surrounded by lush landscaping and sculpture art to enjoy. Overall I highly recommend this property, because of its beautiful location and outstanding service, for a special occasion or just if you're in need of some R&R. :) read more

Soo expensive. Unfortunately my husband wanted to surprise me with a relaxing time and facial for my birthday. Not having a clue of what he was doing he thought the more expensive the better. Booked an essential facial for an hour!!!!!! Which absolutely sucked. It was literally a face massage. I wanna say it must have been like $160 plus a 20-30% tips. Which I get it's policy to not say tip amount but I'm please do. Maybe the people that don't tip should be called out and embarrassed!!! The steam and sauna were nice but I can go to a gym for this. They made it seem like it was going to be an amazing experience to my husband and sold it, which by the way they have no problem filling appointments. The 12 treatment rooms were non existent to me. He said they lady told him there were be a salt room? When I entered, I was asked if I wanted a tour and the tour consisted of: Locker room, wet and dry sauna, showers, restroom and seating/waiting "lounge", where they pick you up for services. That was it. So I had no idea until I was picked up that there should have been more, where was the spa amenities: 12 treatment rooms, 2 outdoor treatment spaces indoor swimming pool, whirlpool & sun terrace. Healthy snacks = almonds and dried cranberries. You. An also order wine. I would not come here again it's high overrated. I'm sure the massages are great. read more

Extremely overpriced and overrated. Rooms are spacious but very dated. Amenities should be way better for the price they charge for rooms. Spa treatments are below average, at best. Food is mediocre, nothing you feel like coming back for. This hotel has really gone downhill in the past couple of years. We've visited many times over the years, but after our most recent visit, we'll start looking for a nicer place to stay and spend our money. read more

Upon my 3rd visit to The Allison Spa it is apparent that their quality and commitment to customer service has declined substantially over the past couple years. My most recent visit included the Morraccon Body Oil treatment, described in their spa menu as a warm escape. There were modifications to my service which they refuted as an "effort to provide what I was looking for." Those modifications included: no blanket covering instead just a standard size towel, exposed feet in a cold room for the duration of the service, cold massage oil and the technicians hands were also cold. I voiced these concerns and the response from Mary, the Spa Manager was to apologize that I was "not warm" and that the modifications were for my benefit, also insisting that their technician was fully trained in this service. read more

The views from our room were just gorgeous, green rolling hills for miles! We stayed here for the husband's birthday and had dinner twice at Jory. Once in our room, but still delicious food! The drinks are also fabulous and strong! Very well made. They also have a wonderful well curated wine selection. You can't pick a bad bottle! Between waking up to chirping birds, a gorgeous view and penthouse room full of amenities and goodies, I don't know what part we enjoyed the most! So worth the splurge! read more

The Allison like many hotels, spas and businesses is a tale of pre and post Covid. Pre Covid the Allison was A++ post Covid it's C+ at best. The spa sucks now, they have a spa-cafe, they had us order a cheese plate several days in advance because they want to pre make it. Plastic wine and champagne glasses. I get it things are difficult after Covid but at this price point at this establishment level you've got to do better. An example on the Oregon coast The Stephanie Inn - they are not as premium of building and architecture but they absolutely nail hospitality- it's not cheap either but we keep going back...the Allison needs to get back to hospitality and catering to their customers instead of opening a lame spa cafe... We tried brunch - it was sub-par as well. This is all very disappointing... We'll give it some time before going back or recommending it to friends and family. read more

I've always had great experiences at The Allison, but unfortunately, I feel compelled to warn future patrons about their cancellation policy. Their cancellation policy requires 48 hours' notice, or you're charged 50%--which I understand in most cases. I emailed 24 hours in advance to cancel because I had come down with the norovirus, which comes on extremely quickly. In addition, it had been snowing and the roads were not safe to travel. Given that I was seriously ill and unable to predict this, I was disappointed when they said they'd have to charge me 50% of the services ($180 for two massages) because I couldn't give 48 hours. They offered for someone to take my spot to avoid the charge, but because there was weather, people felt unsafe traveling. When I spoke with the manager, she said there was no weather policy in place. I should note, that when I called back to explain, they did waive the fee for me as a one time courtesy, which I appreciated. However, while I respect that businesses need policies to prevent last-minute cancellations, I believe a more reasonable approach like waiving cancellation charges for unpredictable illness or inclement weather would be much more reasonable. I hope Allison considers adjusting this in the future. Because of this, I will not be choosing the Allison anymore for any spa services. As a parent, I know firsthand that moms need massages more than anyone, but we're also the most likely to have to cancel last-minute due to illness or unexpected circumstances. A little flexibility in cases like this would go a long way in making the spa more accessible and supportive for those who need it most. read more

This review is for the spa only. Today we paid $383 for two decent services. In the "spa" there were 10-12 women on their phones in both the "private" locker rooms/shower/steamroom areas, and in the ladies lounge. You know...on phones that have video, photo, and live streaming capabilities. In the coed lounge, two men were on their phones. Look at the Allison's most recent Google review. A young lady is posting a photo of herself in the locker room, and of herself in the lounge. Do YOU want to be in one of her pictures on Google? Not me. Men and women's saunas were only about 80-85 degrees. men's steam room has a broken faucet, and women's steam room has...several...things....on the benches and in the drain that definitely should not be there. Husband said no one replaced towels on the men's side showers. I am used to going to spas that 1. Are half the price 2. Offer hot tubs, cold plunges, and optional coed facilities with hot tubs at least, 3. Workers who aren't embarrassed or phased to see a nude body. The Allison Spa does not have 1-3. I told a very nice young woman (I think she was a spa supervisor or something) about the ever-present phones and how I could not relax. I also mentioned how it's not just about my feelings but also about privacy rights of customers and potential legal liability if someone's likeness in a state of undress is posted online without their permission. Do ya'll remember that woman who posted a nude picture of an elderly woman in an LA locker room? I do. So why would I pay this much money to run that risk? The young woman seemed to empathize. She said she would go speak to the Spa Manager to find a resolution to my concerns. Young woman comes back. She says she had a conversation with the Spa Manager who informed her that the spa had initially contemplated the no-phones policy but it was preventing people from coming to the spa in the first place. (Meaning: money is more important than customer privacy.) The woman said her Manager offered to make things right in the following way. "During your next time with us, if you see people using their phones, you can find an attendant or come out to the lobby [where people are checking in] and tell us someone is on their phone. And we will address it with the person." Ha! You think I'm ever coming back there? You think I would ever recommend to anyone to go pay $383 for a cold sauna and the chance to make it onto SnapChat/TikTok/Insta? I suppose I could come back and start an OnlyFans account inside the steam room to make a few of my $383 of wasted money back. Huge waste of money. read more

The Allison is at best a middle range facility, with inconsistent policies, untrained and disengaged front desk and restaurant staff, mediocre food (although the outdoor seating in summer might help make up for that). It seemed too good to be true that we could have a first class hotel and spa in the area, and it is. The outdoor art walk is wonderful, however, and that's free for all to enjoy. read more
