[[HIGHLIGHT]]Christmas time is beautiful, as they decorate the ceiling with garments and ornaments and other decorations around the massive restaurant[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but reservations are needed no later than 6 months in advance. If you're fine waiting 3 hours for a table max, then you will be fine. Every single time we come to Angus Barn, something is different. Now they give you a soup or salad with your meal, along with bread! The cheese and crackers are famous among the people and are a great way to start your meal. The bread is so fresh also! All components in their house salad is great. Everything is awesome! The prime rib is tender and has such good flavor. Their mac n' cheese is the way to go. Their recipe is constantly changing. Like what I previously said, something is different every time you come to Angus Barn. The chocolate chess pie is the best I've had. This is a MUST when dining at Angus Barn. Stopped by Angus Barn for a quick dinner and it did not disappoint. This restaurant is near the airport if you are looking for a good place to eat before a flight out. When you arrive you'll enter the parking lot and have the option to either self park or valet. I went ahead and self parked as the parking lot wasn't too full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you walk in you'll be transported back in time to a rustic feeling, fine dining, and country feeling (since the restaurant is in a barn) type atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started at the bar on the second floor to have a drink and then grabbed a table. At the upstairs bar I ordered the Angus Barn Smoked Old Fashioned (Crafted with Angus Barn 65 Maker's Mark Private Selection and a special proprietary syrup, served tableside in a custom smoke box) which was very strong and a fun drink to order as it is served in a large smoke box. To grab our table we checked in with the host downstairs and were seated. Once seated the table had a complimentary dish of cheese and crackers which were surprisingly very good. For an appetizer we ordered the Wagyu Philly Cheesesteak Eggroll (Wagyu beef egg roll filled with mushrooms, onions & smoked cheddar served with a truffle garlic aioli) which were high quality and pretty heavy. The order comes with two egg rolls cut in half just as an fyi. For my entree I ordered the 22 oz bone in Royal Ribeye and upgraded the side to Mac & Cheese. Each steak is served with either soup or salad and a side. I went with the French onion soup instead of the salad. The French onion soup was very tasty and had a good amount on Gruyère cheese and bread. Additionally the ribeye was excellent and the garlic butter on the side was a nice touch. For dessert I ordered a crème brûlée which was a perfect way to end the meal. I'm looking forward to checking out the Angus Barn during the Christmas holiday season as I hear it is beautiful. We are repeat customers and tonights visit did not live up to expectations. The food took much longer than normal to come out. We were there from 7pm to 9:30pm. Our waiter was attentive but he definitely seemed tired. I will say I did not see a lot of support tonight for the wait staff and they have a lot to do besides top off your drinks and bring out the courses. My husband ordered the Tomahawk bone-in ribeye medium. The first one was well done and the replacement that we waited 10+ min for was medium rare, mostly rare (inedible) towards the bone. The manager was very nice but there was no compensation, dessert, or anything for the hassle. She said we could keep our current steak but it wasn't edible so they ended up taking it and tossing it. At that point, me and my son were done with our meal and waiting on the new steak that still wasn't cooked correctly. The Angus Barn is one of those restaurants that comes with a huge reputation and very polarizing reviews, and after visiting a couple times, I understand why. The food is fine/solid, competently prepared, but not particularly memorable for the price point. Personally, I think the steaks are just okay, especially when compared to other high-end options in the area. What you're really paying for here is the atmosphere, and to be fair, it absolutely delivers around Christmas time. The holiday decorations are magical, and the overall experience feels festive and special in a way few restaurants can replicate. Also there are what seems to be hundreds of employees so the service is good! That said, outside of the holiday season, I struggle to justify the high price tag when the food itself doesn't quite match the hype. It's worth experiencing at least once, particularly in December (you must place a reservation from January the Chirstmas before due to the demand), but for me, it's more about the ambiance than the steak. read more

Made reservations a few months ago to be able to see the holiday decorations before they were gone this month. First time trying Angus Barn as well. Overall it was a great experience! Service was phenomenal all evening, our waitress was attentive the whole evening. Loved the cheese and crackers, bread bowl, and pickled veggie bowl for complimentary starters, so much so that we didn't have to order any appetizers for the two of us. The cheese and crackers were my favorite of the 3. I went with the NY strip with garlic butter, baked potato, and Mac and cheese. I loved being able to get an extra side instead of a soup or salad included with the meal. The steak was a perfect medium well for myself and the Mac and cheese was very tasty. I was a little disappointed with the potato as it was a little overcooked though. My girlfriend got the crab cakes and a side of creamed corn and both were delicious as well. It was NYE dining experience full of nostalgia and CAROLINA PRIDE. I started my culinary fining dining experiences in Raleigh back in 80s with my middle sister. She was in banking and often included me as plus one. Now some 40+ years later I'm extremely proud to see that traditions of Angus Barn lives on. I had dined in the final years of Chef Royal who passed in 2023. The mystic of this rouge barn has been written about for several decades and its reputation of fine steak house dining emulates its staunce attention to detail, immaculate service and food that resonates their ambitions to keep you coming back for their unique ways. I am primarily a lean meat eater yet there are times you just need quality lean red meat, for me its a filet med rare or delmonico tonight was a filet adorned with traditional iceberg wedge. I have this strange unique combo of blue cheese and thousand island to complete my salad. Normally I would have requested no boiled egg yet being NYE engrossed in conversation I forgot. It was surprisingly flavorful with egg and I didn't really notice boiled egg. Let's rewind to our appetizer the ribs which were exceptionally tender a very nice lean rack that made it easy to enjoy without a mess and sauce on side. We savored the smoke flavors of ribs while nibbling on the relish of olives etc plus house cheeses and homemade crackers. The candles on tables plus all Xmas decorations adorned the warmth of this truly magnanimous dining experience. A fine glass of Pinot Noir was just the tonic to wash down such a flavor party in my mouth. I rewind to our entrance while awaiting our table. Lively atmosphere of people anticipating dining tasting new year. Grand Dames in real fur, festive evening wear shined in contrast of all the decor. Numerous generations of family, friends, dates all awaited their tables to indulge as we were to welcome in 2026. The conversation about flavors of ribs etc were going when our waiter approaches with our main entrees we both decided on filet I luv a bit of blood in mine my companion didn't. Temperature of my steak was on point plus my baked potato had been properly dressed by our server. Needless to say there was no way I'd complete this meal in one seating , so our server kindly packed our leftovers from dinner and appetizers. We continued to chat before finally allowing server to present the dessert platter which we chose from as to go items. I decided on blueberry cobbler while my companion took the Chess Pie. The timing of our prestinely packed to go and leftovers were placed by server, as the staff passed out champagne and party favors in anticipation of of NEW YEARS TOAST OF 2026. We had been dining almost 5 hours as new year countdown started. The most ornate decorations adorned these hallowed walls ceilings and grounds making a tremendous background for pictures to remind you of past as we all ushered in a new year full of music hugs toasts kisses and just being thankful to have experienced this event at such an institution of Raleigh NC! read more

The Angus Barn was all decked out this year. If you don't have reservations, get there early, as the line to get on the waitlist is long. I arrived before my reservations, as I like to look at all the decorations. I stumbled upon the elevator and the train. Looking back at my photos, it is fun to see how different they make it each year. I was seated at a great table and could enjoy the decorations while eating. There was no shortage of staff to make sure that I had everything I needed, whether it be bread or more crackers. Even at the end of my meal, I overheard another staff member asking my waiter if I needed more tea. I had already told him I had enough left. Bobby D. was my waiter and had a wonderful personality, and never missed a beat. I ordered the filet mignon again with creamed corn and a baked potato. The creamed corn is much different than what you get in a can. I don't know when the last time I even had that was, but when I saw the new addition to the menu, I thought I'd try something new. It is creamy but not heavy, with some subtle cheese flavors. When my filet came out, I was instructed to cut into it to make sure it was cooked properly. I couldn't finish as I ate too many of the homemade crackers, cheese, and the relish dish. But now I have leftovers. I did eat the sawdust pie later that evening. I hadn't remembered the sliced banana before. If all goes as planned, I will make it back next month. Maybe I will order another main dish, but probably not. Christmas at the Angus Barn is so special and I recommend that everyone go at least once to have the experience. The staff are always amazing and provide excellent service. Food was so yummy I had steak and shrimp with two sides, all cooked to perfection and the Main Character the Ambience was on full display. There's no corner that's not decorated and the moment you step on the grounds you're immediately filled with joy. They are strong in the service and ambiance department. Our server was attentive and super friendly, and our glasses were always full. She never forgot anything we asked for. We had one very minor misunderstanding on the food order and it was resolved within what felt like seconds. They really go out of their way with customer experience here. The barn is beautiful during the holidays. They give out complimentary gingerbread cookies during the holidays on your way out, however our dinner ran late and they closed up the stand before we finished our meal so we didnt get any - but we did notice it on our way in and thought it was such a nice touch for the season. The food itself was fine. My t-bone steak and sweet potatoes tasted as what any other steak house would taste like in my opinion. I think thats fine? How many ways can a steak really be cooked to stand out, you know? The stuffed potatoes were dry. The prime ribs did lack for us as they were mainly bones than anything. I was anticipating this evening for the past year and was so excited to see the decorations, and enjoy the wonderful meal and time with my friends. It took a long time just to get a reservation and I took the first thing that I could get which was a 4 o'clock reservation on a Sunday. The place was mobbed, and I understand why because the decorations are fabulous. First off, decorations 10/10 - so much to see and I want to go back as I didn't see it all. The outside is decked out too. Our waiter was top notch - he was a pro and one of the better waiters I've encountered. He was outstanding. I split a meal with my friend and ordered a ribeye, with a wedge salad, sweet potato and a side of creamed spinach. The wedge salad was delish. I loved every bite. The steak on the other hand was not good. It was no better than a grocery store steak. For a $100 dinner I expected a steak you'd find at other top notch steak houses. The steak was chewy and fatty in many spots. I didn't finish it. I didn't get the steak intense flavor I wanted either. The creamed spinach was good but I wanted a thicker and creamier version of this dish. I got the experience and service but I can't give the stars for food. I had a few olives in the olive bowl they brought out but I don't care for pits in my olives and having to spit out the pit. A must visit during the holidays for their decked out Christmas decorations! Came at opening (2:30 pm) on a Monday to get a spot in the Wild Turkey Lounge (no reservations required for the lounge, it's first-come first-served). Upon arrival, our hostess took our name/phone number to notify us when our table in the lounge was ready. There wasn't a line, it just took a few minutes to be ready for each party - this ended up being perfect to allow us time to look at all of the decorations on the main floor which were stunning. Another benefit of arriving early was that we essentially had the space to ourselves to take pictures which became very crowded by the time we left a little before 4 pm. We were seated in just about 10 minutes at a table. The lounge was super cozy and while less intensely decorated compared to the dining room, still had a very festive atmosphere and superb ambiance. Our server brought out a complimentary cheese/crackers plate with olives and pickles which was quite a generous portion. Their drink menu is very extensive. I had the mule cocktail which was delicious. We ordered the crab appetizer which was warm, cheezy and came with lumps of crab. Overall, was tasty though a bit pricey for what it was and wish there was some form of soft bread/pita instead of the crackers that were paired with it. We did not ever feel rushed during our time in the lounge and we had ample time to take in the decor. It looked like you could order most of the same menu as the dining room in the lounge but after reading prior reviews, we chose to stick with drinks and the appetizer and being there mainly for the vibes/view which I think was the move. However, I would consider coming back for the food at a less busy time of year. Highly recommend trying to arrive as early as possible (they have their holiday specific hours listed on their website) for minimal wait times, as I think our positive experience was largely shaped by this. read more

We had heard how very magical the Angus Barn restaurant is during the Christmas Season and beyond. As fairly new residents of Raleigh, North Carolina, my husband and I invited two locals of the Raleigh area to join us for a Monday night dinner at Angus Barn earlier this week. We all four were touched instantly by the entryway into the parking lot. We knew we were in for a very special dining experience. From the road we had seen the Big Red Barn lit up along with lights all throughout the trees in the surrounding area. We valet parked with a very friendly man named Harold who has been working with Van and her team for (I believe he said) 25 years! WOW! That shows loyalty to a place. The entire property is decorated in such a way that it takes your breath away. You cannot put into words how the team of volunteers transforms an already beautiful building into a true Winter Wonderland. I hear they begin October 1st and take about 6 weeks to complete their Christmas magic. We had the great honor of having Corey Mozdziak as our server this last visit. He did a fabulous job reading the table, noting that we needed some time to simply catch up as friends who had not seen each other in several months. The wine was delivered to our table at just the right temperature and as anyone who has dined at Angus Barn knows, the selection is stellar. None of wanted to start with an appetizer as the complimentary cheese, crackers, and relish tray kept our hunger at bay until soups and/or salad arrived, followed by our entrees. The French onion soup at Angus Barn is just what the doctor orders on a cold & snowy evening (yes, it was snowing this past Monday in the area). My husband's wedge salad was enough for us to split and then some. The flavors in that wedge salad are so unique and amazing. Both of the guys in our group enjoyed the feature which was a Tuscan Spiced Ribeye. Having the option of potatoes/sides is crazy GREAT. Angus Barn does a fabulous stuffed potato which in other places is referred to as a twice baked potato. My friend Amy had a delicious 7 oz filet mignon that the team did to a perfect rare temperature. My blackened tuna was so delicious and the cut of fish was so fresh and so substantial. I loved the carrot puree this dish sits in along with an Asian green bean salad. All of us agreed that the dining experience at Angus Barn never disappoints. Plus all four of us had some food left to take home and Corey graciously boxed each one up for us with a smile and an attitude of complete hospitality. From the moment little "elves" greeted us at the front door with offers of a complimentary gingerbread cookie to the kind staff that smiled as we wandered from decorated dining room to more decorated dining room, we felt so very welcome and appreciated. And that is what sets Angus Barn apart from every single restaurant you will dine at. Van, Steve, their children, and many, many longtime employees (who are family to them) run a great operation. Cheese and crackers were good but we really loved the pickles. Tried appetizer pork rib - off the bone - personally I think the bbq sauce was overpowering but the meat texture was great. I had the T bone - very good flavor and tender. Hubby got the rack of lamb - he loved it. Very tender and full of flavor - we opt out if the mint jelly. My son had the 10 oz filet mignon wrapped in bacon. The meat again was very tender and easy to eat for a 12 yo. Now best part is dessert. I tried chess pie - it was so good and rich and chocolaty. Our table loved the complimentary crackers and cheese spreads along with the fresh pickle and veggie bucket. I went to The Angus Barn yesterday for a company event and we had an amazing time. The beef melted in my mouth but the real highlight was their house made chocolate chess pie. I don't even have a sweet tooth but wow.. it was so rich and decadent it completely changed my mind about pie. I guess I never disliked pie, I just had never had good pie before. The event was held at The Pavilion and the atmosphere was beautiful. The tall ceilings made the space feel big and open and the ceiling lights really set the mood. We went for the first time after being in NC for decades and found both the food and service to be just ok. My son said his steak was cooked perfectly but my lobster was way overcooked and super chewy. Even the steak knife struggled to get through it. We also noticed that nothing was very hot - even the baked potato wouldn't melt better. I was so excited to try this place and see all of the Christmas decorations! It is decorated really cute and I love the Christmas vibes. It was difficult to get a reservation during this time (with the decorations up). We had to check the website everyday as soon as reservations dropped to try to get them and there were none that were available in December. The service here was great. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Since we had never been, she told us about the menu and some specials. We loved all of the complimentary appetizers we got. The pickles had a nice variety of peppers, olives, celery and cucumber. The cheese and crackers were a tasty starter as well. The complimentary bread was pretty standard toast and rolls, but both were good. I ordered the crab cakes as my entree with a side of cream corn. The crab cakes were full of crab and were on top of this nice creamy lemon sauce that had paired really nicely with them. The cream corn was probably my favorite thing from the whole night! My husband and I enjoy coming here for the holiday decorations. We ordered the french onion soup, the combination with steak and lobster tail, side of button mushrooms and apple cobbler. One thing do like about this place is the portion size. Our entree came with a meal sized salad, which was shared. The lobster and steak were good, but nothing special. The mash potatoes were great and had the option to top it with bacon, butter and sour cream if we wanted. I loved the side of mushrooms (not pictured). we decided on apple cobbler for dessert. Now I'm a huge potato girl and this is one of the best potato dishes I've had, plus they will come by and ask if you want any sour cream! I love sour cream on my potato so I loaded it up. For my drink besides water I had a glass of Malbec. It was a very good Malbec, and if you're a wine person you'll have a great selection to choose from as they have a wine cellar containing over 25,000 bottles. For dessert I had the award winning chess pie and I can definitely see why it won an award. My family has talked about stopping by their store every once in a while because they sell them there for $25 - honestly a steal! Speaking of the store, they do have this cute little store so if you wanna stop by and grab a souvenir you can. They have various shirts and things and you can grab cuts of meat, pies, their cheese spread, dressings etc. When I went when I was three, I picked out a Kermit the frog stuffed toy. I still have that toy and they still carry plushies for kids! So your kids could have a super sweet memorable experience too. Oh one more thing! Even though my family all ordered desserts, they still brought out a whole pound cake to celebrate my sister's birthday! And they sell that pound cake in their shop too. They didn't need to do that but it really speaks to how their service goes above and beyond. We made reservations and had plans for a wonderful date. Angus Barn did not disappoint. We've been before but never when it was decorated for Christmas. I've never wondered what it was like eating in a Christmas tree but I now know! The decor was gorgeous!! If you have the opportunity to go when it is decorated, you should! When we were seated, there were two cheeses and some crackers (assuming they're homemade). Both cheeses are delicious! My favorite is white--it is a white cheddar with some blue cheese. So tasty! Our server was absolutely incredible! She was kind, knowledgeable, and kept our glasses full. I cannot handle spice at all so I inquired about the espresso rubbed filet because the sauce was described as having spice in it. I asked and our server mentioned she didn't know but went to ask and even came back with a dish of the sauce so I could taste it. It was spectacular! And not too spicy! My husband and I ordered the same dish including salad. The Caesar salad is great and filling! I didn't eat it all because I knew some deliciousness was heading my way. The steak was fabulous, with great sauce. The mashed potatoes had blue cheese in them and holy cow they were impressive! I saved part of my meal because I remembered how fantastic their desserts are so I wanted to save room. They have this chocolate chess pie that is warm and served with ice cream! It is amazing! Angus Barn is the most festive establishment in the RDU area for Christmas. Each year they go above and beyond with their decorations and it's stunning. I can't imagine how many hours they put into hanging all the lights, coordinating all the logistics and how much their electricity bill is... yikes! Unfortunately it's very difficult to get a reservation here during the holidays, as they are booked over a year in advance - but you can still try. I think you can also walk in, but there no guarantee with that. There is also a Facebook group where people can swap/trade reservations but not sure how well that works. This is only for the Christmas holiday though, when it's off season, it's much easier to dine at. I had the pleasure of snagging a reservation and dining here in December. We had a jolly good time, the steaks were good (but not A+) and the chessman pie was yummy. I wouldn't say it was the best food I have ever had, but the service and ambiance took the experience to the next level. Honestly, if you have out of towners and you can't get a spot, I would just pop in and take a look at their gift shop, while taking some beautiful photos of the decor. It's a must see! read more

The food had absolutely no flavor. My prime rib was perfectly cooked but the lack of flavor was very disappointing. I have to say the same for the mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and the au jus. No flavor or seasoning. Do better for the price you charge. Service was good. read more

What a wonderful Wedding Anniversary celebration I had at this place. Holiday decorations consumed the roof tops and every inch of the place which made it feel like a cozy Christmas barn wonderland. From the moment you enter the front door to the money you leave, you are in a sea of Christmas decor. The service was excellent. We were greeted with homemade crackers and cheese spread followed by a relish tray. The espresso martini I had was delicious with a perfect foam on top. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet and ribs combo with creamed corn. The overall plate presentation was lacking on everyone's dinner. However, the food was delicious!
