This place is a bit like that but mixed with the early days of Etsy. "Designers" can rent an 8x8 or bigger "storefront" to showcase their unique designs. Mostly stuff reclaimed from decades gone by and redesigned with some kind of flair. There's generally a theme to the different storefronts: women's vintage clothing, funny and lovey-dovey sayings regarding dogs and cats, plastic and silk flowers, dairy and farm, sarcastic sayings, whiskey barrel designs for the men dragged into this place, etc. My wife and I found a whimsical chip and dip bowl. It was nice and will replace one of the blander versions we have at home. Truthfully, there were quite a bit of items that were perfect housewarming gifts and gifts for people who have specific decor tastes. It's also a decent place to just kill some time browsing through all the stuff people have created to get your own creative juices flowing.

The shop itself is in part of a large building, so you need to follow the hot pink signs to find the entrance and their parking lot. I'd checked the business out online and discovered that it's a non-profit charity, so I brought in a bag of items to donate to the store. I was overwhelmed by the space. There's so much to see and a bunch of different rooms. I walked around in circles because it was just too much for my brain. I know I missed areas but I had to give up due to input overload. Unfortunately, Lisa had no time to help me. The next day I contacted the store but again, Lisa had no time to help me. I did leave a message for the store manager to call me. However, "Taylor" did not return my call. I then stopped by their location in Skokie. They had the chair. The sign said $1650 was the price. But when the salesman rang it up, the price had jumped to $1730. A supervisor I called at the corporate level could not explain the difference. Then a customer service woman called me to say they quoted a chair with lumbar support. I did not ask for this extra feature. I was not told the sale was being rung up with the add on. I could not get the store to see what the problem was here. So I will not be buying from Penny Mustard. If you are buying there, double-check the posted price versus what is rung up. Something is definitely off with their selling practices In my opinion.

Its held up great, so when I was looking for a low but long dresser (another odd size space to fill) and I figured I'd check them out again. I'd shopped around and had no luck finding something that fit my criteria. First, it needed to fit in the space. Second, it needed to be in my price range. Third, it needed to be REAL furniture, not that Amazon press board type of junk. On top of all that if it matched my room then even better, but I'd sacrifice on looks if I had to. I walked in and was greeted right away. The sales guy asked if I was looking for something specific or just browsing. I told him what I was looking for and exactly what my max dimensions were as I walked around looking at the dressers. He walks away for a second and comes back and calls me over to a dresser. "If you don't mind keeping the legs off of it this might work". Sure enough this thing was picture perfect. It was Just at the max for my dimensions and budget, but that included threshold delivery. The boss on duty came over and we finalized everything so easily, I honestly should have just started my day here and saved myself a lot of trouble shopping around. My delivery came on time and at the earliest point in my 3 hour window. Super nice delivery team as well. This makes 2 great experiences at this spot for me so I definitely recommend checking them out!
