I ordered two Red-Tailed Red-Eye Puffers (Carinotetraodon irrubesco) from Monster Aquarium. What…read morearrived were two completely different fish--large, highly aggressive Pao puffers, apparently Pao abei and/or Pao cochinchinensis. These aren't species that could reasonably be confused in terms of size, temperament, or care requirements. This created an immediate problem. Irrubesco are small puffers that I had appropriate housing prepared for. The fish I received were roughly 3-4 inches long and belong to a group notorious for extreme aggression, requiring secure individual housing. I had to improvise emergency setups to keep them separated from each other and from my other fish while figuring out what they actually were. The most disappointing part was the response afterward--or lack of one. I contacted Monster Aquarium about the misidentification and sent photographs of the fish. I never received a response or any attempt to resolve the situation. Fortunately, a knowledgeable local aquarium store was willing to take both puffers, and they are now safely in experienced hands. But I had to solve a problem that never should have been mine in the first place. Fish identification matters, particularly with puffers. Sending someone a potentially extremely aggressive Pao in place of a small Carinotetraodon isn't just getting an order wrong; it can put the fish, the customer's existing livestock, and potentially the aquarist at risk. I understand that mistakes happen in the aquarium trade, especially with species that can be difficult to identify. What makes this a bad experience for me is that after a very consequential mistake, the seller simply did not respond.

The front tanks were gorgeous and housed very beautiful fish, the back tanks, lights were off and fish were on the verge of death. I'm new to saltwater, I have a lot of freshwater experience and I watch tanks carefully before purchasing fish. The guys over at Advanced Marine Aquatics are the best! They're professional, knowledgeable, kind, and welcoming. Every time I go there I ask plenty of questions. Every question I ask gets answered. Sometimes I even get wrapped up in conversations they have and try to learn from them. I tried to impulse buy a few things. They stopped me and told me it wouldn't work with how new my tank was and I should give it more time. It rare to find a store that tells the truth and are willing to lose a quick sale to optimize the customers experience. I will be doing all my purchases at this store. Thanks guys! Oh I forgot to mention, the pricing is ridiculously good. They are rational hobbiest trying to share the joy of reef keeping and aren't trying to bust anyone's bank account.

Expert advice on what type of fish may suit your needs and will actually go out of their way to explain why. They actually care that you will take good care of these little guys. The owner actually babysat my little fish. Yes he did. Three years ago we bought our first house in Levittown and I didn't know what to do with my 20 gallon tank and five little fish who at that point had lived past a year. He said he would actually keep our fish in a separate tank until we set up the tank in our house. When we went back to pick them up a few days later, there they were, swimming around happily. And - NO CHARGE for the babysitting. Well, unfortunately, our tank is now empty but one day we will set it up again and I will be back to Total Aquariums. I came here to wash my Husky. The fact that they have a self service dog wash is fantastic. Not…read moremany places have them any more. The price was around $20 and that included the wash area for 30 minutes, unlimited soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, a heavy duty blow dryer, and, even an apron to keep me mostly dry. The wash area is raised up higher than a bathtub, which saves my back from having to bend over for so long. Before the wash, I bought some peanut butter treats, that were on sale, to give my dog a reason to chill out a bit. The blow dryer worked fantastic, plenty of air volume and pressure without any heat. If you've ever tried to dry a husky, who has a heavy coat and undercoat, you'll appreciate the blow dryer. Friendly and helpful staff. I'm pretty sure that I went over the 30 minute time period and when I asked if I needed to pay more, they didn't charge me a penny. Even the other customers were fantastic! Most everybody there is a pet lover and my boy Giorgio got lots of attention and pets from random people in the store. They have plenty of items for other pets as well. Get your cat, bird, fish, etc needs taken care all under one roof. The icing on the cake? Plenty of free parking in the lot out front! I really hope that other people use this store for their pet needs and for the dog wash. They were really great.
