I really wanted to support local business. But the first time I went in, along with my purchase I got to hear all about how archery is a great way to get away from a nagging b!+ch of a wife. Not a great start but I felt like I should give them some 2 more chances since they are the only place in town to get archery equipment. Second time I go in they tell me, unprovoked mind you, about their stance on trans athletes and their shocking "final solution" to the homeless problem. But, the final straw was my latest visit. No odd opinions shoved down my throat this time. Nope. They were closed during their posted business hours. So, from now on I suppose I'll drive out of town or buy my equipment online. read more

We were so excited to see what they had! Walked it and instantly felt the weird vibe..I felt unwelcome! My husband asked a question, and the older gentleman gave him a smart a** reply! Like why ! We were specifically looking for a left handed bow! Then we asked if he had a RVX32 and he acted like he had no clue..it's not what he said but how he saidot it.we wanted to buy a whole set..we will definitely be taking our $$$ to be spend elsewhere...I had never met someone to be so unmotivated to make a sale! Stopped in to get my bow re-strung after moving to CA from South Dakota. They were helpful and gave sound advice at a fair price.

Gary and Bruce were extremely helpful. Me and my friend went in to get our bows set up to us and buy releases, arrows, and targets. We are both new to archery and Gary and Bruce were really knowledgeable and passionate about helping us out and getting all our equipment ready to use. They took their time to help us with our shooting form and gave us a bunch of useful tips about shooting and maintaining our gear. Overall, they went above and beyond in terms of getting us set up and ready to shoot some arrows! We couldn't be happier with the level of customer service we received. read more

My daughter and I started taking a class that the Archery Shop graciously hosts here for a third party. So, naturally, this is where we've been going to get our targets, accessories, arrows, etc. Prices are actually pretty fair. The top gear is priced competitively, and I was even able to pick up the giant Morrell outdoor target bag for at least $13 less than Amazon's lowest price. Don helped me out a few times with new arrows and accessories, and always gives his professional input as to what would work best and most economically. Yeah, it's jam-packed with gear, but that's how most hunting/outdoors shops are. However, it would be awesome if they could move the shop to a larger location with an indoor range that they could charge by the hour, though... (hint, hint!) read more

Worst shopping experience ever. I don't like leaving bad Yelp reviews but this place definitely deserves one. I read reviews and didn't listen to all the bad ones. This shop tried to charge almost $200 to tune a bow. And the owner ,like all the bad reviews said, talked crap about the bows I brought in. Charging $175 to tune a bow cuz we didn't buy it from him. No one even wanted to help us. That's an upsale tactic if I've ever seen one. Charge 1/4 of the price of a new bow to tune one. No one even wanted to help my son and I cuz they knew I wasn't buying a new bow. My 8 year old daughter was so excited to get a bow set up for her. I will never spend one dollar in this store ever. Don, the owner, acts like customers are a nuisance. When you walk into the place he barely acknowledges you. If you know EXACTLY what you're looking for and need ZERO input then this place might do in a pinch. But if this is your situation, you can just buy it online from any number of places and have it delivered to your house in two days - and save a ton of money. The shop is small and is so crammed with bows that you can barely walk in it. Prices are definitely on the high side. Don's parents also work there. The old woman is like a badger with hemorrhoids, just a total curmudgeon. She will nickel and dime you like there is no tomorrow. Shoot three arrows in the range to test something and she dings you for range time. Watches you like a hawk as though you're going to steal something the whole time you're in the place. I've been in there several times and I've yet to see her smile. Tex is very knowledgeable, if he ever leaves Don will have to close the place. Archery should be fun, going to this place is like going in to school to take a test that you know you're not prepared for, just gives you a sick feeling thinking about it. Not what I was hoping for. Finally got around to try to get my first bow and thought this would be the best place for that. Walked in to a store that was jam packed with equipment which made me feel like I found the right place. Looked around waiting for some help, after looking and seeing the pricing; I was more than willing to spend a good hunk of change. Help took a little than I would but didn't mind. Once I was approached by someone, I explained my situation and was hoping for some guidance. Got back very shortly response but no real advice. Well first off I tried to make small talk with the owner about my limited experience and mentioned what little I felt I had learned about my new hobby so far. All this was in a few short sentences to him. The owner was rather short and very smug in attitude. He then told me he would teach me my short coming in understanding a bow for $175.00 and side stepped a basic question that I ask him about understanding how to get a correct draw length measurement on my bows. Then mentioned again he would charge me to answer the question. I also ask about a few bow recommendations and some pros and cons between a few bows he had in stock that I was interested in. He said he did not have or give any specific bow recommendations to people and for $40.00 I could try different bows out. He said he would fit them to me and I could see what I might like. I was a little put off here as well because other shops I have been in and purchased in do this as a courtesy if your interested in a particular bow. Then he informed me if I decided to buy he would credit the $40.00 back to the bow purchase = (I would sure hope so on this) Then he said If I did not buy a bow he kept the $40.00 for his time. It also seemed to bother him that I wanted to learn to do the basics / repairs and general maintenance to my own bows Well he lost out that minute on a $900.00 Bow that I was going to surprise my wife with as an upgrade. There is to many other places to buy online and stores in other states to buy from. I will never enter this shop again, what a darn shame. read more

These guys were very knowledgeable and happy to share advice. I was just in Bakersfield for a couple days and really wanted a heavier recurve than I was using. I'm a novice but know prices. I like to support local archery shops in particular as was need them as a pro shop and just guys and gals that know what they are talking about. I got exactly what I wanted (ordering from your local shop is good) on the spot and am glad to pay an extra 20.00 to keep these shops open. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Sure, it's expensive, but it's also the only shop around so it's to be expected. The customer service here is the absolute worst I've ever seen. I came in to spend around $1,700 on a complete new compound setup and was hoping to love this shop since it's the only thing close to my new home. Needless to say, I walked in with the best attitude and highest hopes of establishing a solid relationship with the people who work there and doing business today and for years to come. However, the very first bow I pick up, they SHOUTED at me. I could understand if there was a sign that asked customers not to handle bows, but the fact is that they welcome that in their shop. This bow that I picked up, they had failed to secure the string to the bow in order to prevent it from being pulled back. Being an archer, I would never pull back on a dry bow that didn't belong to me (an accidental dry fire would ruin it). Regardless, the guy in there shouted at me and yelled at me to put the bow back. I had literally JUST picked it up, nothing more. I was so embarrassed and so angry that I decided to leave, cash still burning a hole in my pocket. I hope they realize that, not only did they lose out on a great sale today and many more in the future for my sons, but that I will never ever recommend them to anyone. read more

Myself my wife and my 3 girls all do business here. I've never left a review in my life but this shop has done mmy family so right that its well earned. Tex is the man. He has dialed in bows for myself and my entire family. I've been a big Mathews fan my whole life. He sold my daughter a Hoyt bow. As unhappy as I was in the moment.... I had almost zero compound bow experience when I walked into this shop with my "ebay" bow. When I left, my wallet was skinny BUT I was hitting bulls-eyes from 20 yards and had everything I needed to safely shoot and maintain my bow. You get what you pay for, in my case they spent at least an hour and a half tuning my bow specifically for me, and some more time teaching me how to shoot. Think about it, there isn't any room for profit for these independent shops selling bows retail because of the internet and big box retailers, so they have to sell their time to keep the lights on and make a living. Highly over priced services and gear. They will try and take advantage of you especially if you don't do your homework and Know what and how to do things. Got a new bow that I needed to have the draw length adjusted on, Along with looking for some arrows. Walk into this place and start talking to this older man (owner maybe). Told him what I was wanting done and what I wanted my draw length to be. At this point he smirks and looks at me like I don't know anything and proceeds to tell me how he can adjust my bow to my "right" length and tune my arrow rest while at the same time trying to sell me one of his better rests. After describing the extra tuning work he would do he tells me its going to cost around $190! Just to adjust the draw and "tune" the rest and sight would cost me $190 dollars! I asked about arrows and even thoughs were way over priced for some bottom line arrows. I went in again to give them another try when looking for a recurve Bow to give as a present. Even their simple recurve Bows are highly over priced and once again they were trying to push their over priced services. I can't recommend this place to anyone looking for archery help or services. They're going to try and get as much money from you as they possibly can. read more

I needed to get my bow (a gift) fitted to my draw length and just overall checked out. When I entered the store, bow in hand, Tex was sitting behind the desk eating. He said nothing until I was standing right in front of him and I said good morning. He looked at me like I just kicked a small child. How dare I interrupt him while he's working. I explained to him what I was needing. He closed his eyes and inhaled a deep breath like my very presence was ruining his day. He took a quick, and I mean 5 seconds quick, look over my Hoyt and quickly listed a plethora of items that needed to be completely replaced before he can even think about fitting it to my draw length. I said, ok what's all this going to cost me? He clearly skipped a few math classes in his early days because his first attempt at the final number was short by $165.... Or maybe he just added a few extra costs that he conveniently forgot about. Sounds like a mechanic to me. Will never return to this store and recommend no one else does either. I'm not expecting him to jump over the counter give me a hug and throw free stuff my way. But come on man. Ended up going to Second Amendment and Bowmen was a great help. read more

My wife and I wanted to get into archery. She had zero experience and I hadn't shot in 10+ years. We decided to head over to the archery shop. We were greeted by TEX. He was super polite, patient and full of information. He went over basic shooting techniques and multiple different styles. We got to shoot compound bows with releases and finger bows....we ended up both purchasing bows along with a dozen arrows. I came in a few days later to purchase some more accessories, I experienced the same amount of professionalism and top notch customer service. I would guess fewer stars if I could. I happened into this shop a little over a year ago with the intentions of purchasing a compound bow. I did not find anything g that fit me because of my 31" draw length. Don, the owner suggested I try a recurve. I didn't want one because I wanted a compund. Well with his insistence I shot a recurve, saw the price was very reasonable, and purchased it along with 12 arrows for it and just got my compound elsewhere. Well I went I to this shop yesterday fully intending to purchase a longbow or recurve with higher poundage for hunting. There was a different guy there named Tex. This guy thinks he is something else but is really just hurting the shop. I selected the bow I wanted to buy, a 380 dollar bear longbow, and was going to buy another 12 arrows to go with that kind of strenth. Not cheap ones either. Gold tips like last time. I asked to shoot it to make sure I liked it. I was then informed by this arrogant sales rep that I would need to cough up 20$ just to shoot it and if I bought it then it would be credited to the bow. At first I was like sure what ever but then I thought, what if I hate it? I'm out 20 bucks for what? He said it was to pay for their time. He would be sitting on his but anyways had I not walked in so that is a sorry excuse. Then he said that people shop there for what they want and then buy on the web. I am a return g customer. I at least deserve more respect than that. So after some thought I handed the bow back, told him to pack sand, I'd give my business to someone else. I don't care if I do pay more elsewhere. So I called today to speak withDon, the owner and let him know I felt it was a bad business practice. He seemed to not care and began to give the same excuse only adding a lane fee and insurance excuse. I told him that he just lost a customer and he couldn't care less. Hung up on me even. Believe me, if you want good service frome a place who will treat you right and knows what they are talking about, don't go here. i've always been intrigued by the bow and arrow. after work, i was driving back to my hotel, and encountered the Archery Shop along the way. so, i dropped in and met L who was friendly and knowledgeable about bows and arrows, hunting regulations, and tournaments. they sell a few long bows, but majority of bows were short ones, the ones w/ cams: mathews, hoyt, bowtech, mission to name a few in the store. i saw a price range from $700 to $900 per bow. after a bow purchase, they set it up to your liking and you can do a 20 yard test shoot behind the store. read more

Horrible customer service, Tex is so rude. Part broke on my PSE and he refused to help me even though it was under warranty. Called PSE and they instructed me to have it ordered through my local archery shop to have it replaced for me. However Tex said I didn't buy it through him so he won't replace it unless I pay full price. So I called PSE told them my situation and PSE rep sent it to me for free. Very disappointed in the local archery shop. I now go out of town or shop online. San Luis Obispo has a great shop, go there for all my needs now. read more

Tex is awesome and the guy behind the counter was super cool as well. My partner brought our 13 year old in to just check things out. He wanted to get into archery, but we had no idea how or where to start. Tex was awesome, within minutes he had our son shooting. Tex took his time to instruct him, no charge and also gave us some insight on how to get our son some lessons. Our son walked out with a huge smile on his face and two parents who couldn't be more thrilled with our experience. Tex has customers for life now. Let me start off by saying I believe that they are knowledgeable people at the archery shop With that said the younger guy Tex comes off very arrogant. When discussing compound bows they went down the list from best to worst. I bought 2 bows that they said were the better ones however said the the bow the I just bought (PSE X Force Omen) was the hot rod of bows and that it had no let off and that I would not like the bow at all unless I wanted to hold 70 lbs of pull till I releases the arrow. It was rate at 75% let off. And is a great bow I love it. I brought in a bow that I bought for my girlfriend in to have them re string because it was dry fired in the strings popped off. They restrung the bow for $30 which included a broken string guide that i feel was fair except that Tex who says the are a pro shop did not check to see if the peep site was set up correct. Again keep in mind Tex repeatedly down talking other businesses and said that they were a pro shop you think they could have got that right But that is the thing that bothered me the least. What bothered me the most was the fact that in our conversations he said that if you buy a bowl from them they will tune the bow to the individual for $50 I think that's a fair price however if you just bring in a bow that you own or purchased elsewhere ie...( on the Internet) they want to charge you triple the service charge for that, which is $150. so in my mind they want to punish you for not purchasing the bow from them. Instead of helping the customer and setting a bow up for the $50 so that the person has a good experience and wants to come back to their establishment for further business So for me I will never go back to their shop again I would rather travel 120 miles to LA to a shop that has good customer service regardless weather you by a bow from them or not read more

I read the reviews before going to this place and there were some bad ones. I am brand new to archery and hate going to places not knowing anything . I looked up what I wanted online and went in. The guy immediately told me I was wrong ha! said he would gladly sell me what I wanted but knew I have to come back to get what I really needed once I outgrew my purchase. This is a PRO SHOP with a pretty specific product. If you want a cheap bow go to a big box store. I got a setup that included everything and he was right, I think I have already outgrown what I bought. He mentioned it and price made me buy it. Now I want the bow I passed on cause of price. The prices were not higher then online. I paid the same foe me bow as I saw online and I got it completely setup and shooting bulls eyes before I left. I have never been into archery so I went to this shop to learn about archery and I was ready to buy a bow until I asked a few questions and found the younger sales person had a rude condescending attitude. The older sales rep at the front counter was nice when I walked in and told me to walk around and take a look. New to Bakersfield, I was so excited to have an archery shop nearby. I went in to see what they recommended for an archery range and to see what they had to offer for new Bowtechs. I was interested in the Eva Shockey bow, but was told that it's just last years version of the car ion knight with Eva's signature and way overpriced. They didn't have one there to shoot, and I didn't want to buy it before I shot it. After more research I ended up buying the bow while on vacation at another shop. I went back into this shop to have them help me set it up, with all intentions of spending money on upgrades and whatever else I needed for it at the archery shop. They wanted to charge me $150 to tie in my peep sight and a few other "tunes/adjustments" which he said would take about an hour. I left so upset that he wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount since I didn't buy my bow at their shop. The people here have attitude, terrible customer service, and were not helpful at all even after they knew I am serious into archery and looking to improve. I feel that they didn't take me seriously because I'm a young woman. I will not be going back, and definitely not recommending this shop to anyone!! read more
