One of the best parts of the event was how they introduced the elite runners. They turned the lights off in the arena, announced each athlete individually, and they ran out onto the track with sparks shooting up. That whole presentation was fire and really made the moment feel special for the athletes and the crowd. The atmosphere was great and you could feel the excitement in the building. My only complaint is about some of the staff (not all). I had been sitting in a section for over four hours after being told by one worker that it was fine to sit there. Later on, a few other workers came over and told me I had to move. It wasn't even the request that bothered me--it was the way it was delivered. When you're dealing with adults, especially paying guests who've been there for hours, it's all about how you communicate. At one point it felt like they were all teaming up like Voltron instead of just getting a supervisor to clear things up. Situations like that can easily be avoided with better customer service and communication. Needless to say I didn't go anywhere until my daughter ran off the principal. Aside from that situation, the event itself was great. The competition, the energy in the building, and the way they highlight the elite athletes made it a really memorable experience.

My runner lived the track itself, it was a great track.

If I ever make it back to Yankee Stadium, this is the only place I want to sit. The view is phenomenal and if you were attending a baseball game it would be comparable to sitting right behind home plate. You also get access to a private lounge with a variety of food options, multiple bars, and an incredibly friendly staff. Now, as for the concert itself if you didn't make it to one of the three nights at Yankee Stadium you truly missed something special. I mean, on night one, he opened the show by bringing out Beyoncé to perform Can't Knock the Hustle. For those who get it, get it! We went to an afternoon game and had the privilege of experiencing the club level suite, and honestly, it was a 10/10 experience! Everything was seamless from the moment we arrived, from security and check in to getting our wristbands and entering the suite. Upstairs, it was more of a formal sit down dining experience with SO many food options. We're talking tacos, lobster tails, French toast with fresh berries. There was truly something for everyone! Downstairs was more relaxed and had many of the same options, plus even more. Burgers, hot dogs, sushi, a candy bar, ice cream with warm cookies. The list goes on! And it doesn't stop there. Outside in the club seats, there's another menu where you can order food and have it brought right to your seat, and it's included with your ticket! Everything is included except beer and wine. There are also coolers stocked with soda and water that you can grab whenever you want, plus peanuts. The staff constantly comes around to check on you, take orders, and bring drinks. Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The only con is THE SUN! If you're going to an afternoon game on a hot day, be prepared because there is absolutely no shade. You WILL feel that sun! But the pro is that you're sitting close to the players and right in the middle of all the action, so the experience is hard to beat. We also lucked up with a little extra bonus because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were in town to play the Jets, so some of the players were at the game. We even got to see Baker Mayfield, which was pretty sweet! And because celebrities are often in the suites, that's another fun perk to keep in mind. The food was AMAZING, the service was excellent, and the entire experience was worth every penny. According to their website, happy hour runs from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The main reason I came was for their frozen rosé, which I remembered being one of the best. It's definitely more of a sweet, refreshing drink than a strong one, but it still gives you a nice buzz. I was even willing to pay full price for it. I literally paid for an Uber just because I was craving that frozen drink. The first thing I noticed was that, despite it being broad daylight, there was a security guard at the door checking IDs and searching bags. That's their policy, and that's fine, but what really stood out was the condition of the entrance. The front door was cracked and held together with duct tape. It seemed odd to be so focused on security while basic maintenance appeared to be neglected. When I walked in, I was only the second customer in the entire bar besides the bartender. Unfortunately, I found out the frozen drink machines have been broken for months, so there were no frozen drinks available at all. The bartender mentioned that she has repeatedly told management the machines need to be repaired, but nothing has been done. Since that was the only reason I came, and nothing else on the menu really caught my interest, I decided not to stay. This place has changed dramatically since the COVID era. The atmosphere feels completely different. One of the things I used to enjoy was their hookah happy hour, which was around $25 with refills for about $10-$15, and they had a great selection of flavors. From what I've heard, they no longer offer hookah, and it sounds like they may not have had the proper license back then, which is concerning if true. Another thing I miss is the outdoor seating area they had during COVID. The indoor space is pretty small, but the outdoor setup made the bar feel much larger and created a much better atmosphere. It's disappointing that they didn't keep it because I think it really added to the experience and probably helped attract more customers. Sorry I didn't take any photos, but honestly, there wasn't much worth photographing. Unless you know about it, you can easily walk by, given it blends into the general Harlem cityscape, especially during the day. Then at night, especially during the afterhours when I was there, the scene flips and this place becomes turnt up! People were lined up trying to get inside at 0130. The bouncers were searching and patting people down, nothing absurd or overly intrusive. There is a cover charge and they take credit cards for the cover. As you walk inside, the bar in on your right. Keep going and the dancefloor awaits you. It's not that large, but people are generally very courteous. There are a few places to sit, especially in the back in the left corner. That is also where the steps lead you downstairs, presumably to the restroom, which I did not have to use. The vibe is poppin' inside and it is fed by the DJ on a stage in the back, playing Worldbeats, Afropop, Afrobeats, Reggae, Dance Hall, and Soca. They are setup for live bands here. The volume is high, but not uncomfortably or earsplittingly high. The people here are drawn to this vibe and energy. You can dance here all night and the air conditioning and ventilation are of the capacity to keep you and everyone else comfortable. Stick around until closing time at 0400 when everyone starts walking out and the AC nearly turns the Shrine into a refrigerator. For an unassuming place on the outside, it is clear this is a place you can come to with friends or a date if this is your vibe and it's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying this. Barnard is situated across from Columbia and both campuses look like a shrine to academia. You can physicaly see the ivy growing up the sides of the walls, and you feel like you are automatically smarter for being physically present here. The faculty and staff were so helpful in developing my skills. I was here about 16 years ago and although I lived in NYC for a good chunk of my adult life, I no longer live in the city. But I sure make a point of walking through the campus to feel the nostalgia. (And then over to St. John the Divine to watch the peacocks, perhaps as I eat some pastries from the Hungarian pastry shop.) Thank you for being an essential part of my career, Barnard.
