A friend invited us to lunch at the Athenaeum. This is a members only venue. From the architecture to the food, everything was excellent. My chicken sandwich was so crispy and flavorful! For lunch, it came with a soup and I tried the cream of asparagus. It was very creamy, and I actually couldn't quite tell it was asparagus. It was very similar to broccoli cheddar. Service was friendly and food came promptly. Being on the Caltech campus, it had a very scholarly feel to it. I can only imagine how perfect this place would be for a wedding or event. It was such a treat to dine here!

You need to have a membership to dine here. I'm unsure of how one can become a member, but I'd love to be one! My team had a staff retreat at Caltech and our connection made a reservation for us to dine here for lunch. Parking lot is for members only. We had parking passes so we were able to park there with no issue. You can find a street parking, but it might be difficult and you'll need to walk over. I absolutely love the aesthetic of this place. Staffs are friendly and service was excellent! I noticed there is a buffet but as a group we decided to order from the menu instead. I ordered Grilled Hanger Steak which came with chipotle lime marinade, garlic yucca fries and roasted corn salsa. I was blown away by how delicious it was! I did not expect that at all. I seriously would like to come back!

Was here for a company event and the food was good but not great per se. Service was good but slow (albeit we had a large group). Beautiful venue. You can only come here if you are a member of the club/school.

We had our staff retreat at Caltech and had a wonderful experience dining at The Athenaeum. This is a beautiful place and I loved the decors. For lunch, they have a buffet option but we opted out of it. Everyone loved their meals. For me specifically I had the steak medium well. The steak was cooked perfectly, so tender and delicious. The potatoes were crunchy! The sauce was tangy but paired very well with the corn and overall dish. I would love to come back here. The service was excellent.

Recently I had wonderful experience to attend a luncheon at the Athenaeum. The Athenaeum is a private membership club on the campus of Caltech that started in 1930. This private club features guest rooms and areas to have meetings or parties. When you step into this club you are immediately feel like you are stepping back in time. The club has nicely retained its ambiance from the past. The rooms are appointed very nicely. The room that I had my luncheon in was adorned with wood paneling and a fireplace lite for our event. The food was very nice, although quite traditional. And the service was excellent for our luncheon. The waiters knew the proper side to take dishes away and place dishes on the table. I appreciate this great service.

Came here for an exclusive dinner with my husband and his work associates, one of who is a member. Cocktails were superb (get the sangria!) and food and service were excellent. We dined on multiple appetizers...the plantains, shoshito peppers and grilled artichoke were all winners. I had the red snapper and hubby had the korean short ribs. Both were amazing and the presentation was top notch. We shared a few desserts, but the stand-out was the strawberry matcha cake. Would not hesitate to return to try more cocktails and the rest of the menu!

This was my 4th or 5th visit to The Athenaeum. I never thought to write a review before, since it requires you to be a member, or be invited by one. But when I saw there were other reviews, I thought I should add my own experiences. They have a dress code which they're pretty strict on, when dining in the main dining room. It's relaxed for outdoor dining (but still has some restrictions, such as no shorts). Parking in the adjacent lot is marked as "for members only", which always made me wonder if I could park there. Turns out that, yes, when invited as a guest, you can park there. I stayed overnight in a guestroom once. It was "cozy" (small!), but very nicely furnished, clean, quiet, and comfortable. I had breakfast that morning, which wasn't particularly memorable (except I remember loving the coffee). I had the buffet dinner couple times, which was very good. If I were to be invited, I'd definitely have that again. My most recent experience was with a private event. It was outdoors, but the space was tented, so it almost seemed as if it was indoors. The Athenaeum provided the space, and also the wait staff, bar, and food (buffet style). Just as with every meal I've had at The Athenaeum, the food was quite good. But this one was the only less-than-great experience I had. The wait staff I encountered were not especially friendly (rather abrupt, IMO). The buffet food was in short supply, so they actively discouraged people from getting seconds. My husband hadn't filled up his plate entirely the first time, expecting to go back and try more. They took his knife and fork, even though he asked to hold on to it. Probably a good thing for his waistline that they did. Bottom line, if you are ever invited to dine or stay at The Athenaeum, definitely do! (I haven't mentioned pricing, because as a guest, I have no idea how expensive things are.)

Beautiful outdoor dinning at the Rath Al Fresco ! Serving Dog menu that's very sweet and i brought my Chihuahua there! Very delicious Kobe beef burger ! I always enjoyed Athenaeum cocktail drink ! Very satisfied with Tokyo old fashioned, Oaxaca old fashioned, and Black Manhattan ! Price not bad for a Private club. Great Attentive service! Enjoyed !

Purchasing the membership to the Athenaeum was my first ever experience with exclusive clubs similar to this, and my experience at the Ath was pleasantly surprising. The value of the membership is really worth it (with great value prices on gourmet food, access to events, and reciprocal benefits at clubs such as the Harvard Club in Boston), and the food at the Athenaeum is absolutely excellent. My favorite perks would have to be the monthly events they hold, such as the Father's Day Event and the AYCE Prime Rib Buffets. They have a wide variety of food at buffets and all of it is incredibly fresh, well-prepared, and thoughtful. They have something for everyone and it is perfect for large parties or for meet-ups with friends and family. The service is top notch and it is an incredible experience all-around! The first event we attended was the Father's Day Event, which had varieties of steak, corn on the cob, dessert, popcorn and more. The environment is perfect for treating your friends, co-workers, or family to a nice meal. Each event has different varieties of food, and we even got to sample things like crab legs, sushi, ube ice cream and more.

It's a private club. We came the prime rib dinner. Dinner is only for members and their guests but the management kindly sponsored us as we used to be members and had our wedding here. The prime rib was great with horseradish, au jus, and Yorkshire pudding. There was a mash potatoes bar, sushi station, selection of salads, seafood with snow crab legs and cocktail shrimp, and a whole dessert table with macarons, bread pudding, and pastries.

It was a wonderful experience to dine at the most prestigious and memorable place. It was one of the loveliest spots in Pasadena. The building is very nice. It's a private social club, member with the guests only. You can't get in without a host who is a member. If you really want you can buy a membership (see their website for details). It was a Prime Rib Buffet Wednesday dinner. There are many staffs and they were VERY attentive (will kept come over to ask if you finished your plate and offered to take it away for you) and the way their customer service were in a splendid way. The meals were deliciously great. I love and would go for second and third plates were the mashed potatoes, green beans, and Roast Prime Rib Au Jus (yummmm). The only thing I regret was I didn't get to tried all their desserts before they were out and it was around 8pm and they didn't have anymore Berry Crème Brûlées. Overall, it is a very elegant and extravagant place. Reservations can be made on-line also; walk-ins cannot be accommodated. There are parkings on the street with 2 hours limit or the parking lot on property. Semi-formal for dress code. MUST be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination (they do check before seating you). It was a remarkable experience to dine here. Great food and service!

This an outstanding hotel. The service was excellent, and if the people working were always pleasant and helpful. The location is on the CalTech campus. The hotel also has much interesting history. It is convenient to stores as well. The rooms are small, but very comfortable. The restaurant is excellent. While our group's meals were prearranged, there was good variety in the food and it always well prepared.

I've come to the Ath for many Caltech-related occasions. Donor events, alumni events, mentoring dinners... I can say that the food can vary tremendously from day to day. Some days the food is salted to a point where it is inedible, some days I'd want to get seconds for all the dishes. In general, I found the lunch menu underwhelming, while the dinner menus generally tend to be good. Their course menus have always been very good too. The burger is a safe choice for any occasion, but more adventerous menu items can be hit or miss. Their menu changes quite frequently, which I appreciate. Their dessert is always on point! The berries-athenaeum is a fan favorite, and the matcha panna cotta is my personal favorite. Note that the Athenaeum is only available for members and their guests!

At the door, it said to seat ourselves & I immediately shot to the patio. The set up: once seated, the server comes with menus, you order & it's a sit down meal. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito ($11.50) & I opted for build your own omelette $11.50 for a 3 egg omelette & choice of two items- mushroom and bell peppers accompanied with breakfast potatoes, and chilaquiles ($13.99) to share. The patio seating is fresh, airy, there are tables, outdoor furnitures (sofas) and bright orange umbrellas for shade. My photos captured these elements. The food arrived shortly, although not all at once. I didn't mind it all because the ambiance was so soothing with the sound of birds chirping away and the background of other patrons talking. The only complaint from Hubby was too many pototo chunks in his burrito. My omelette was hot, fresh ingredients, delectable & the potatoes were mixed with 3 colors of bellpeppers. Oh and the chilaquiles? Pretty darn good! The tortilla chips were crispy, perfect amount of green salsa, freshly diced onions & a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Was I famished or was it that good that I devoured everything? What's left was Hubby's potato chunk discards. Giselle returned a few times to ensure our experience is to our satisfaction & another staff also stopped by to check on us. Such a perfect meal & day-- I'm so happy with this visit. Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

The mussels and clams were the disappointment of the meal. While the broth itself was flavorful, the portion was downright sad. We received only 4 mussels and 4 clams total, and the bowl felt almost empty. The standout was definitely the fish and chips. Dare I say the best fish and chips I've ever had? The batter was well-seasoned without being overly salty. The fish was crispy, hot, flaky, and surprisingly not too greasy. The fries were also excellent, with a crunchy exterior and fluffy, mashed potato-like interior. I would absolutely order this again. Overall, for happy hour, come for the fresh oysters and fish and chips. Skip the embarrassingly skimpy bowl of mussels and clams.

Upon walking in, you'll find an upscale bar on the right and variety of tables on the left-hand side of the restaurant. Our hostess had a phone call when we first arrived, but she still greeted us brightly and promptly seated our party of 4. Jorge's customer service was on point throughout the night. He was polite, knowledgeable about the entire menu, and did his due diligence in accommodating my noted food allergy. We ordered: - the trio of tacos - peri peri half chicken - ahi tuna & noodles - branzino - flourless chocolate cake - oasis mocktail Tacos were fantastic! I recall my mother really digging the shrimp taco, while my brother loved the chicken taco. The big plate of chicken was a huge hit in my family's table. Apart from the half chicken itself, there was an abundance of mashed potatoes and broccolini. My brother devoured his ahi tuna steak and noodles, I guess that's the plate I'll have to try for myself for future visits. I myself, enjoyed the branzino plate - but for the price tag, I would have liked a slightly bigger portion of beets and perhaps a small salad to complement my fish. Still an overall fantastic dish, I was the first to clear my plate. If you're driving or cutting back on alcohol, they have a small mocktail menu. The Elixir, Oasis, and Velvet were the three drinks featured. Pricing is a bit steep at $12, but I will say the Oasis Mocktail I ordered was quite refreshing.

The drinks were so refreshing!! before getting our drinks, staff hand delivered about food, and were so welcoming and nice! For the scallion pancake, I do think it was missing some basil or garlic sauce in the wrap. For mapo tofu, it was well seasoned, and the tots were very crispy!!! It consisted of a house made scallion pancake with chicken tender, egg, cabbage, Thai basil, and cheese. It looked pretty small similar to a snack wrap but it was very filling. The chicken tender was similar to popcorn chicken. Wished it was more crispy since it seemed pretty dry and not much of a crunch. The pancake was a bit bland but I enjoyed that it wasn't as oily as scallion pancake usually is at other places. Overall, I felt like this was slightly overpriced but it was worth trying! The Black Sesame Matcha ($8.50) was amazing! I got it in large so that was extra $1. Requested it with regular ice, half sweet, and oat milk and really enjoyed that it wasn't packed with ice and not overly sweet. It's nice that they don't charge extra for milk substitutions! The matcha tasted very rich in flavor and I could tell they most likely use ceremonial quality matcha. The sesame was very nutty and really enjoyed that they make it in-house. This was definitely one of my favorite drinks! NOTE: it's very important to give it a good stir prior to drinking otherwise the sesame just sinks on the bottom! The Lychee Pear Blossom ($8) was so good! I got it half sweet with regular ice and it was just the right amount of sweetness and ice! Loved how they use fresh lychee and pear with no artificial colors or flavor! This drink was very refreshing and fruity! The green tea wasn't too overpowering and made the drink even more enjoyable! Overall, I really enjoyed my drinks and the wrap was ok. The prices are slightly higher than other cafes but it's nice that they use real fruits without any artificial flavors or colors unlike many other places!

5 Stars - A Hidden Culinary Gem in Alhambra! I brought some…read moreold friends to Sage Bistro in Alhambra once again, and we were treated to another incredibly satisfying feast. I am genuinely thrilled to have such an upscale, quiet, and relaxing restaurant right here in my neighborhood. You can truly taste the chef's passion and dedication in every dish. Every time I bring friends here, they are absolutely amazed and delighted by the flavors. We ordered quite a few dishes today. The highlight was the Chilean Sea Bass. The chef served a massive, beautifully thick cut--which is actually the hardest to execute. If overcooked even slightly, Chilean Sea Bass becomes dry and tough. But the timing here was absolutely perfect. It had a gorgeous, golden-brown exterior, while the inside remained incredibly moist, tender, and delightfully springy. The seasoning was spot-on and never overpowering; it wasn't too salty, perfectly preserving the natural, fresh flavors of the sea. We also had the Chicken Bowtie Pasta. I typically avoid chicken dishes at restaurants because they often turn out dry and lack the rich aroma you get from beef or lamb. However, Sage's chef elevates chicken to another level. Rather than using the traditional Cantonese technique of quickly flash-frying in oil (which yields a smooth texture but sacrifices the natural meat aroma), the chef here expertly pan-sears the chicken over extremely high heat for a short time. This creates a deliciously crisp exterior that locks in all the juices and rich flavor. Tossed with perfectly cooked bowtie pasta and cheese, the result is so flavorful and well-balanced that we simply couldn't stop eating! Another great thing about Sage is their incredibly generous portion sizes--we left completely satisfied! We finished our meal with a great cup of coffee and the chef's handmade Tiramisu, drawing a perfect, sweet close to our evening. Highly recommend!

We placed a large takeout order and everything from the service to all of our food was amazing. Some of my favorite items we ordered included the - Cast Iron Cornbread - Ribs and Two Meat Combo - Gus's Famous Burger The cornbread was divine, especially with that honey butter . Definitely a solid appetizer, but complemented the main dishes perfectly. The meats were prepared well; tender and flavorful. The bbq sauces paired well and merely elevated each of the meats. Gus's Famous Burger was one of my favorite burgers I've had recently. Ordered the potato salad as my side and couldn't have been more satisfied. I'd recommend any of these items if you're on the fence. I think it's important to review that we had all of this as a takeout order, so I can only imagine how much more delicious this would be if we dined in and ate everything right away. Gus's Barbecue is definitely going to be a repeat visit for us. There's so much more we want to try off of their menu. Can't wait to come back soon and dine in!
