This was actually my first time inside the Aztec Theatre. We went to see the Yacht Rock Review and it was so much fun. The inside of the theater is beautifully restored, and the venue is a great size so even balcony seats have a wonderful view of the stage. Even though it's a historic building, the Aztec is well cared for and very clean. There was plenty of staff and drink counters to reduce the lines. I'm a huge fan and hope that I can attend more concerts at the Aztec Theatre in the future.. read more

Good place to see music. Seen a few shows here. Not a huge place. The sound is good. The stage is huge. They have a lot of bars, so you can get drinks fairly easy. The bathrooms are a different story. Only two bathrooms for men and two for women. That I know of. I believe they have snack for food. I got me a beer, the bartender was nice. They were super nice to Maria, she got some water. Going back for a few more shows in the new year. Ran into a few guys I know, and are in bands. read more

The food is basic festival / carnival / movie theater nachos and hot dogs type food. Several adult drink options. Besides getting drinks or snacks at the counter prior to the show there inst service. There would be no way to bring in food and eat it with my food mere inches from someones head. So thank spaghetti monster i ate in the lobby. lol. The venue is beautiful but the seats would make a sardine blush. Sitting up full back contact my knees were in constant contact with the seat in front of me. It looks like the seats all have a great view so anywhere is good, just real tight. This is a great date night. read more

My first time here enjoying Phantogram on a Monday night, I was expecting a laid back atmosphere with outdated carpets & decor and it was perfectly that! The employees that check your ticket & bags were all serious but nice enough except the one dude putting on the 21+ wristbands. Got alil too impatient with my wrist turning over where palms face up? That was strange, don't know why it mattered, maybe a reason to just be stern with me but I brushed it off. Not my problem! I had tickets for standing room, which came with 2 levels. I got there between 8:30 & 9 so I got up on the upper level. The first song I almost had a perfect spot until a broad shouldered gentleman came into my view. I didn't want to inconvenience anyone standing in front of me by moving up so I sat up on the bar that is the perimeter. For an entire song I was able to sit there until an employee asked me to get down. I had a feeling he was being kind enough to allow me up for that one song which I appreciated. The sound quality was great, sounded crisp, not too heavy with the bass, had no ringing in my ears night of or next morning. I didn't bother to get any drinks or concessions but why waste the $ & wrestle to get a bartender's attention? I had a great time & wouldn't hesitate to go back to another show here! read more

I came here for the Hermanos Gutierrez concert and had a great time! I got my ticket at a yelp elite Fiesta metal scavenger hunt when representatives from the Aztec theater showed up to hand out metals and show the concert lineup. For Hermanos Gutierrez thing had a buy one get one free and I jumped on it right away! Even though the tickets were standing room, only, they did have some benches at the very back, which were nice to sit down and enjoy the show and just take in the vibe. We ordered a few snacks, a pretzel with cheese and some tonic water with lime. I was so happy they had food available because I definitely didn't eat enough before going! The pretzel was to be as expected, not horrible not great. But overall, I absolutely love it at the Aztec, it has a nice intimate atmosphere. read more

3.5 Stars I was standing in line for at least an hour at the merch booth. A rocker dude was surveying the Aztec lobby trying to make sense of the choice of Mesoamerican decor. He was like, " I've gone to a couple of shows here!" I remember after this theater closed the conversation was to raze it. But salvaging its former architecture was the best plan moving forward. And I think its investors thus far have done a good job of restoring it. Twas not so long ago in a galaxy far away that this was once a downtown theater. I used to see Godzilla, Bruce Lee and Burt Reynold's movies here. I once got chased out by ushers for trying to sneak into "Conan the Barbarian." Those were the days. Now it has morphed into another entertainment venue. It typically has mid-sized level shows here of some gravitas. Spanish artists, comedians, metal acts. Lots of metal acts. Although I did come here to see the "Yacht Rock Revue" not too long ago. It feels like a live venue for misfit-oddball shows. I wish it would creep forward to at least being four stars but let me include in my review why that might never happen. Firstly it is downtown which means there is zero parking. When I go here I usually park across the street at a garage. It is $35. Some might say why not park further, pay lesser and walk? I've lived in this city since "David Carradine" movies have played here. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus the only distance I ever walk is from sofa to fridge. Secondly, since the place is so small you are or someone is always in your way. Which goes back to the hour wait at the merch line. Another issue for me is the seating. Depending on where you sit the quarters will be tight. The mezzanine is the most opportune of any seating here. However, to get to them you have to use the stairs, which are steep. Is there accessibility for disabled or wheelboound patrons? In addition due to the venue's acoustics a band's mix can be either too choppy or sounding like you're inside a bubble. Also it doesn't leave much space to headbang or rock out. Some young lady in front of me was trying to air drum. And the whole time she was doing this her seat kept smashing my legs. In addition one thing I find shocking are the prices of drinks. As Yelp's Resident Lush I find it highly offensive that a beer at a local Pik Nik that is 3 dollars is now elevated to 15 dollars. I mean I understand if it were Olivia Newton John(RIP) pouring it. But, por favor! I noticed now they are carrying a few food items. However it probably won't lessen or heighten your experience here. I will say its saving grace are the staff here, particularly the ushers. They are extremely helpful when guiding you to your seats. They also are ultra efficient at dealing with unruly concert goers. In my opinion this is a place you will either appreciate it or will think the decor is too gaudy or dated. I'm somewhere in the middle. I think it would better be served by booking more shows for mature audiences. Maybe Jazz, blues or comedy acts. Still it is a cool place that desperately needs to find its identity. And bring down drink places. It should do the latter first. read more

It was my first time at this venue for the Coco Jones concert and I absolutely loved it. From the architecture to the service. They have amazing ADA Accommodations and were so kind and welcoming. I also appreciated the flow of things inside and the type of security they had by the doors. I do wish they had better preparation for VIP instances because it started raining and we were getting soaked while waiting in line. That aspect of the event, did not start on time. Overall, everything else was good -- really clean restrooms and the food service/quality was good too! read more

Fun time! Came to see Hermanos Gutierrez- awesome laid back guitar playing. A friend told us about them but had never seen them. Been here many a times, the inside is so interesting feels like I'm straight out of a Quentin Tarantino movie (from dusk til dawn). The location is convenient, I especially enjoy how close the parking is! It's right across from the building, that's crazy! Most places you have to walk super far. Anyways, once getting to the door, staff is super nice and welcoming, thankfully have never been treated badly here. The drinks are not bad, every venue is going to be expensive, so prepare yourself. Lastly, the food, I have never tried. In my opinion, just looks regular, nothing to write home about. So I would NOT waste your money, I mean, unless you're down bad hungry. read more

Aztec Theatre is a small, intimate concert venue in San Antonio. It is right by the river walk, which is nice. After the concert, my wife and I walked over to the riverwalk to get food and drinks. My wife and I live in Austin and drove here for a Joyner Lucas concert. The venue is decent. I always enjoy smaller venues as every spot is good to watch the show. You will have to stand to watch the concert, but as long as that doesn't bother you, I definitely recommend this place. The bar is close by to get beverages if you want anything during the show too. read more

This theatre has a theme and can seem a little cheesy astetically but it's fun, it's almost 100 years old and becaue of this fold out seats are added for more seats and some things seem a bit dated but still a nice little space it is almost 100 years old after all. There is a huge old 2 ton chandelier in the lobby. If you arrive early for a show don't miss the outdoor upper deck this space has tables amd chair and a lounge area for sitting and visiting with pretty view over looking theRiverwalk. read more

The seating is terrible. If your taller than 5' 6" your knees are digging into the back of the seat in front of you. Plan on going up and down LOTS of stairs. Very small venue that gets congested quickly. We were watching a concert with nobody sitting in front of us and then they started filling in the seats in front of us and they all decided yo keep standing up and blocking our view. Will never go to this venue again under any circumstances. read more

The Aztec Theater is nearly 100 years old and the stalwart venue has been lovingly restored. This iconic venue is a sight to behold and evokes a time when the movies were a new and fascinating technology. The ornamental architecture is breathtaking. The owners have done good work to restore and enhance the venue (check out the outdoor terrace overlooking the Riverwalk) with the latest features, concessions, and modern amenities. Today's sonically sophisticated audiences will notice a significant difference in sound quality here compared to more modern theaters. This should not deter you from a concert here. This is a special and unique place. read more

Only thing I didn't like about this venue was security making it hard for me to enter, the button on my short set off the sensor. So I had to step aside and do all these extra security measures. Nonetheless the venue was small, stage seem small. Wasn't all one floor leveling. So as someone who was kind of short could still see above the tall folks. Drinks were okay. Just your typical bar drinks with popcorn to snack on. Definitely would try to attend more concerts here. read more

We got there at 730 for an 8pm concert and the line to get in was 2 1/2 blocks long. 1 person scanning digital tickets. Finally a second person came. The we had to take off our belts, unload our pockets. We got in at 820. Missed the first 2 songs. This crazy. Pretty awesome joint to see a metal band play! I caught a concert here one evening while I was in town on a biz trip. Loved the theme and decor of this venue. It's like a combination of Indiana Jones meets From Dusk to Dawn! You're really in an Aztec pyramid setting with terrific sound and sight lines. Good staff, separate room for drinks and merchandise, and decent bathrooms. Risers to stand on behind the floor pit area. Great crowd. Three bands played and put on a hell of a show. Would love to see another show here one day. read more

Went to see comedian Sofia Niño with my mom and sister; the show was GREAT! The theater was so so. Honestly the owner SHOULD invest in making some upgrades. I recently also went to the Majestic Theater and you can tell the difference. The carpets were filthy. Not sure if the A/C was broken or if the owner/manager is trying to save money but it was HOT! The show was sold hot and they didn't lower the A/C; that was truly a disappointment. A lot of people were complaining about it. The staff was GREAT! Super friendly and we loved the drinks! Overall it was okay but has room for improvement. read more

Went May 20th to go see Black Veil Brides in concert. Waited in line for 4 hours and the venue staff provided water to all the people waiting outside. We were let inside at the right time and I had no issues at all. It may be because BVB fans have proper concert etiquette, but I was able to leave the line and go to the restroom and come back to my original spot (I was 4th in line). The VIP session was conducted nicely. The whole vibe of the venue is really nice and the staff were really friendly. I would totally come again if BVB or any other band I like comes back. read more

Went for a concert last weekend and was very disappointed in the VIP section. We usually upgrade to VIP, but never again. They did some redesigning and the VIP section suffered. They now have low sofas and chairs and you can't see anything unless you stand up the entire show. It would be alright for a comedy show or a show where the GA has seats, but if GA is standing, you will be throwing money away. Beware.... DO NOT get VIP if you are attending a concert. read more

WOW!! What a fantastic place to see a concert! My favorite group is Blue October and my wife got us tickets to see them for my birthday. I had never been to the Aztec so I had no idea what to expect and when she told me what she paid for the tickets I was shocked! However the theater is AMAZING!! it is an intimate lushly decorated venue that seats about 500 in the balcony and then the floor is all general admission standing only. We had unbelievable seats!! The concert was more then I hoped for! The sound was huge and it was like I was up close and personal... truly amazing!!! They set up drink and snack stations all over the place. The decor is opulent. The service was outstanding! This is a out of this world venue!! I would go again in less then a hart beat! read more

I prefer The Inca Theatre and The Maya Theatre but those don't exist, so here we are. Pretty awesome theatre located in San Antonio where bands used to play a little bit more back in the day, but it's still a really cool place and I would love to play here. First things first let's just start off by I always love coming here is such a small video that you get such and how do you say intimate experience with the artists like there's not much room for them to be away from you even with gates in front of the stage so every experience you get here with an artist is always very intimate. It's very disappointing that for some reason people do not support artist who perform at this venue and yes, I know it's very hit or miss but it's worth it it's always affordable now. The drinks are completely over priced play $25 for a guess Maybe two drinks and a cup is really really really ridiculous but I guess you get what you get when you come to a video the Murch is always depended upon who's ever for for me but through and through I love this video is just beautiful. I think it's a beautiful environment to be in. There's so many beautiful paintings. It's just a great Time every time. read more

It's a pretty and historic theater. For the show we attended, floor was all standing room only, seems that's their most common format. So seating option is mezzanine/balcony. Those seats are quite small. I'm not particularly tall and my legs were hard pressed against the seat in front of me the whole time. I'd caution that you may find the mezzanine first row a little scary. With the lack of leg room and a very low rail, if you're at all afraid of heights, I'd recommend being at least second row back. I also found the steep stairs in the mezzanine/balcony with no railing a bit precarious. Younger folks will bound up and down with ease I'm sure, but if you're a bit older and not quite as mobile, please be warned. I expect because of these various seating issues, we'd avoid future shows at the Aztec. We did find the Warrior Room to be a quiet and peaceful place before the show, with a good bar and private bathrooms. read more

I have only been here once and it was for a live band show. The show was ok but production value was very low. That is more on the band but the sound acoustics were really disappointing. I was in the balcony and the view was fair. On the positive side, the venue is well laid out and the decor is interesting. They take that Aztec motif to the limit. There is a lot of carpet, which makes it feel very dated and the restroom situation is fairly ridiculous. There are not enough options for the number of people in the venue. read more

A really awesome theatre built in the 1920's and wonderfully preserved. When you go, do yourself a favor and step out of the show for a minute to explore the place. The architecture and decor in this theatre sets it apart from newer venues around town. Seriously, take your time and look all around the place - you'll find so many interesting things. It's a good venue for live music events and the occasional movie screening. Great sound, and not a bad seat in the house. For movies, they don't seem to make the balcony dark enough, so the light can be distracting - the screen could also stand to be larger for such a large venue. Convenient city parking lot just a couple of blocks away and a couple of parking garages nearby. The process to get inside works flawlessly and moves quick. They do have metal detectors, so you will have to empty your pockets before going in. And I almost forgot to mention this - the men's room has a lounge area with a couch and everything! That's something you just don't see every day. Draft domestic beer is $12 friggin dollars though!!! read more

Visited for a comedy show. They required people to show our vax card to enter. However, we could be maskless while inside and they also packed us in like sardines. Obviously being vaccinated reduces risk but, it just seems they wanted a participation trophy. In my opinion if they are worried enough to make us bring our card they might as well do the whole thing. Suggestions- They have light snacks and a full bar if you are hungry. Beautiful, historic theater right on the Riverwalk. A group of us ladies came here last night to see Thunder from Down Under. Doors opened at 7pm and there was already a line around 6:45pm. They did a good job getting people checked in quickly. Everyone working here was friendly. The theater itself is beautiful. Aztec statues and sconces adorn the walls and the lighting fixtures are gorgeous. It's dimly lit throughout but the colors are amazing and bright. The Aztec opened in 1926 as a movie theater. It closed in 1989 and reopened in 2009 as a concert venue. They managed to keep the original beauty intact. The stage was big and from what I could tell there isn't a bad seat in the house. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the drink prices. I know we were downtown and at the theater but $15-$20 a drink is very high. My friend's beer was $15. Drink prices aside, the Aztec is a wonderful representation of downtown San Antonio's rich history and culture. read more

How have I not been here before in my 15 years living in this city ??!! I love and I mean LOVE music and through I have attended various concerts at various venues I have never been here !! Let's begin the coolness that is the location - unique Aztec decor makes this location unique!! But there are two things that make this place a must see : One , you can get up close and personal with the stage - these days most venues have a large divide between the stage and the audience but not here - we we mere feet away from the band and it felt like those days when you would go to a bar and catch a band before they became big - it was awesome and you really get to enjoy the whole music experience Two - the sound here is superb, really, really good - sine other places in town - yes Alamodome as one example - cannot come close which makes this a great venue to catch a band Now yes drinks are crazy , stupid expensive which is why I took off a star! I get that venue drinks -Vegas , vacation , concerts - are expensive as that's just the way it goes but $30 for two beers is just crazy and it's not like I was drinking premium IPAs ... that Freetail beer is $5 at the brewery - so three times the cost is a lot steep though they were eager large pours which offsets it a bit ! Overall though loved the venue and hope they get some more of my fave bands soon read more

Attended the second night of the event with my partner. We inquired about upgrading to VIP. We were told for $100 per person we would get a table and waitress. We thought this may be better than dealing with the thick general admission crowd. So we pay, only to find out we paid $200 additional dollars to SHARE a tiny table with two other people. Then when the headliner took the stage, the people in the velvet chairs and couches all stood up and completely obstructed our view. I tried to move to the side of where our table was (as no one was at the neighboring table) and I was very rudely told to return to the area by my table by a woman with blue hair. I asked her if she was serious, as we had just paid $200 for a "better experience" when my view from the general admission pit would have been the same or maybe even better. This woman has no customer service skills. And VIP is an absolute rip off. I go to MANY shows and will opt to stay home and watch YouTube recordings of my favorite bands rather than step foot inside your establishment again. The view would be better than you "VIP" experience. No value for money, very poor customer service service. I intend to inform all of my family and friends and Google, Yelp and social media audience about the experience. Shameful. read more

I'm a fan of the Aztec because of the huge range of entertainment to grace their stages. I'll buy a ticket to almost any show just to have a guaranteed evening of entertainment (and also because they tend to have some solid Groupon deals) I've only had seats on the lower level/floor area and have always had a great view of the stage but I've also been able to look to the upper levels and see folks pretty clearly so I can only assume they have a solid view as well. Lighting is always good, sound on point, and bathrooms clean, and I love the temple theme throughout. The Aztec's only (imo) and biggest downfall would be the crazy over-priced drink selections at the bar. I appreciate the cutesy themed drinks I've seen at a couple concerts and at the latest drag show but a 12-16 oz (3 ingredient) cocktail ringing up at $18 or a can of domestic beer coming in $7-12 (regular or tall boy), like woaH, what's with the AT&T/arena pricing? read more

This was a beautiful venue. We went for the first time to see an ABBA tribute band. We had general admissions down on the floor area, which is standing room only. I like how close you can get to the stage area and see the performance. And I also like how there are two standing areas, one slightly above so people are not in your view. The design is well set up and the decor is beautiful. I truly love how many places they had you can buy drinks and food. I will be going back if they have a performance there I like. read more

Thankfully I read the reviews on Yelp before I went to the show and knew I should do my drinking elsewhere. I basically avoided Aztec Theatre until just before the headliner was to go on. I went in and was pleased to find a place on the first balcony to watch without anyone in my way. The sound was great and I enjoyed the band a lot (Anberlin). The place reminded me a lot of The Observatory in San Diego. Aztec charges way too much for drinks so they missed out on getting some of my money there. Really don't understand how they can be so obscelely high... California concert prices weren't even this high! Oh well. Parking in Downtown wasn't too tough, but I got there around 5pm. Paid the meter for an hour and then it was free, so I avoided the overpriced lot next to the Aztec. Minus the $4 coat check fee for my umbrella and the drink prices, I don't mind the place. I'd come back down from Austin for another show if the right band played. read more
