I attended a Candlelight Concert and want to start by saying the musicians were absolutely incredible. Their talent, professionalism, and performance were outstanding. They truly made the experience memorable, and I would highly recommend seeing them. Unfortunately, the venue was experiencing air conditioning issues during a Texas summer. Handing out small paper fans wasn't enough to keep the audience comfortable in the heat. Because I was trying to stay hydrated, I ended up missing a large portion of the concert with multiple restroom breaks. It's disappointing that attendees weren't notified of the air conditioning issue beforehand or given the opportunity to reschedule. Knowing the conditions in advance would have allowed guests to make an informed decision. I would absolutely recommend the Candlelight Concert series because the musicians are exceptional. However, I would encourage attending at a different venue where the audience can comfortably enjoy the performance from beginning to end. read more

Came her a few weeks ago to see Saw The Musical. The play was alot of fun and they had great drinks to enjoy before and during the show. The only issue that I had and it might be more of a pet peeve is that they did not check tickets. The woman at the front was very friendly and said we looked trustworthy or something along those lines. The reason why this is a pet peeve is that I have run into issues with this before. It was not at this theatre but another. Someone else was already in the seats that I paid for. I decided not to make a big deal of it and sat somewhere else. At the end of the show, I could hear someone taking about how good the show was and how they couldn't believe it was free. This did not happen at this theatre but it could if they continue with not checking tickets. I recommend this place for good plays and good drinks. read more

Returned for Coldplay theme concert. Again awesome. Yes, old theatre needs a millionaire to renovate here, some seats you can actually see before you sit, are worn out but many fans. But we love the small venue, intimate, free and stress free parking, down the street eateries to stroll down afterward. Love the staff, very friendly, smiley. If you get a drink from the bar, they are volunteers so tip them well. Wishes: 1. Sell the Tshirts the staff wears 2. Get a different main announcer, his voice is not pleasant 3. Allow the announcements to have a speaker in the lobby where you cannot hear now if you are in the restroom or bar line (which is always very long) 4. Announce for ppl NOT to leave or enter seats during the pieces, you can wait!!! These classless people need education because they do not have common sense and think they are in a ball park instead of a String concert. read more

This is locally owned and always love to support these biz This theater may be old but they have events you can find onsite. They have a bar where you could order drinks before the event Parking was available on the side and a staff was present to guide you. It was a hidden gem. read more

Beware if you see a show and park your car --manager will call to have your car towed. This happened to me tonight after I saw an evening show that let out at 10PM. They towed me at 11PM. Bought a drink at the theater and wanted some time to work it off before driving, but I guess management doesn't agree. read more

We attended The Josephine last night for a Beatles/Queen candlelight concert and had a very nice time. The atmosphere is intimate which made the acoustics very nice. The quartet was fantastic and very skilled at their craft. The theater itself is quite dated and could use some updating but the seats were comfortable. We found free parking fairly easily just steps from the show. It was an enjoyable night out! read more

The venue is definitely dated. The seats are old but still in decent condition, and the sound system is surprisingly good. If you find a show you really want to see, don't let the vibe or the condition of the place discourage you from going. It's not fancy, but it works. They do have a full bar, offering liquor, wine, and a handful of bottled beers. However, I didn't notice any food options. Parking is free on the left side of the building, though I'm not sure how many cars it can hold. read more

My family and I went to the Josephine Theater for one of their candlelight presentations (flamenco dancing). Upon arrival, there was a large amount of construction going on around the building which made parking a bit confusing. Luckily, an employee of the theater came out and directed us to where we could park. Once inside the theater, they had numerous staff to check tickets and direct you to your seat. The seating was sadly not assigned though so someone always had to stay behind to save seats and you couldn't all go enjoy a drink at the barZ The theater itself was older and a bit out dated. There is a bar area with snacks inside, but it wasn't quite the upscale bar I was expecting (no seating or place to drink except for at your seat). The show itself was ok, but felt more like a learning experience than a true performance. I would not likely return to this theater for a show. read more

Went for date night to Candlelight concert for Coldplay. The theatre is on the smaller side and a little dated but that didn't take away from the reason we were there. The staff was pleasant and helped us to our seats after reviewing our tickets. There was a small bar as well. The show was really cool and involved fun facts. Parking was on site but it was also a small lot so I would recommend arriving early to get a free parking spot in the lot. read more

The performers I have seen here have always been fabulous. The venue is tired and in need of repair and renovations.

Attended the Candlelight 90s Hip Hop concert here and had never been to this venue. We had to wait outside to park because there was a concert before ours. Security had us wait but once the chains were open to let out the previous concert attendees cars jumped the line to park for our concert. Security tried to redirect to go wait in line but to no avail. When we finally walked in we were directed to go take our picture. It was a small set up and not the stage set up you see on advertising. I was disappointed because there was time to take a picture with the real set up since we got there early as they recommended. The photo you pick up at the end on your way out on a random table- it was basically a Polaroid so that is disappointing quality for the add on. We then asked about the beverages and food advertised since we didn't eat and it seemed to be a make shift bar in the corner with chips to eat. Don't go hungry and eat first we learned. Seats are not assigned so it is recommended to get there early to pick your seat. Beware that they try and have you move to accommodate the late arrivals. The actual stage set up and theater are not the pictures in the advertisement at all. It is smaller and less romantic/elegant looking. Due to it being the holiday time they threw a tree in and random candy canes hanging in the background. At the beginning the host is upbeat and talks about having a good time but then tells you to please not sing so the performers aren't distracted. The performance set was a good mix. It would be nice if they included maybe a small section from Texas since that's where we are. They gave some background facts which were interesting but also mispronounced famous artists names. It was neat to hear the music played on strings and the performers were amazing! That was the best part. Even though the host said not to sing we had people behind us singing practically the entire time ruining the experience. Overall, it isn't worth the cost but was something different to do. read more

If you come for a Candlelight Concert, expect great music, and a wonderful experience, even if the candles are fake. But be sure to sit up close, or you won't be able to see a thing in the dark. Their photo package is a complete rip-off, however. You get a tiny, blurry Polaroid knock-off with 1/8 inch wide blurred faces. Totally unusable and they laugh at you if you ask for a refund. Save your money and take a selfie. read more

A small but comfortable theatre. We came for one of the candlelight concerts and the size of the theatre lent itself perfectly to this type of event. A larger theatre would lose the intimate nature that this event was seeking to create. I'd recommend this theatre for shows of this type. read more

Had the pleasure of watching The Rocky Horror Show here! Absolutely loved the production and the close, personal feel of the theatre. The microphones cut in and out at times, but it was opening night so it seemed expected to have some technical difficulties. The performers were good sports, as was the audience, which again emphasizes the intimate feel of the theater. You have a clear view of the stage no matter where you're seated (the picture I posted was from the very last row). And most importantly: free parking, which is rare to find downtown!! My one complaint would be that when both my friend and I called the office over a span of a few days to inquire about tickets, no one answered. This became inconvenient and somewhat frustrating since we both live on the outskirts of the city, and swooping by the theater to scoop up tickets would mean a 30 minute commute. Thankfully I was able to buy a ticket for the Tuesday show at the door, but my friend was out of luck when she drove downtown only to find out the tickets for the Saturday show were sold out. Other than that, I love this theatre! I look forward to checking out their future productions! read more

The Josephine is a great little theater that accommodates local performances, as well as smaller touring shows. It is rough about the edges, but the management is gradually making improvements to the interior, as well as the lighting and sound. The seating capacity is just under 300, but the stage is amply sized. There is an adjacent parking lot, but try to come early as it is slightly under the necessary capacity. Just past the art-deco lobby is a bar with small tables for seating. In addition to cocktails, they also have pre-packaged snacks like chips. If you want, you can bring your drink inside the auditorium. This year, I have attended two Opera Piccola productions at this facility. The second performance has improved technical production, with good lighting and sound. This fall, the "Musical Geniuses" series will include music and anecdotal stories of popular artists including The Beatles and Irving Berlin. Great, intimate theater! I never knew this place existed until my husband competed in a Guitar Wars competition being held there. It's an older theater obviously but it has this super cool old San Antonio vibe that you can feel as soon as you enter. The lobby has a small bar and a few round tables scattered around along with fairly decent restrooms. When they draw those big red curtains back, you see the theater that is a pretty good size, probably a third as big as the Majestic. The rows of chairs are classic green velvet and pretty comfy. I'd love to come back here and see what kind of plays they offer, my only critique is that the power and sound equipment seem to be a bit rusty but then again this is an older theater. read more

I went to see the Rocky Horror picture show featuring Ginger, Latrice, & Phi Phi from Ru Paul's drag race. It was such a fun and entertaining show! Lots of audience interaction and laughs. There is very little speaking dialogue in this show as it is more focused on all the tunes from RH. This was my first time in this theater, and I loved it. You still have the illusion of the theater while having a great view. There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. With that being said, they need to get the freakin' locks fixed on all the stalls in the women's bathroom! I don't find it pleasant to be leaning forward and grasping the bottom of the door in the hopes that a drunk somebody doesn't yank it open and find me in my most vulnerable position! read more

I've been trying to work with management to book an event here and with no luck. Management (Thomas) and his mother Margie are horrible about returning calls and answering questions. After finally getting to see the place - Thomas promised to email me the rental contract and I have yet to get it. This has compromised my event significantly because I can't get out invitations nor secure caterers because I'm not confident I will have a venue. What an utter disappointment from a local theater who could use the money. read more
