Thanksgiving buffet lunch was excellent. Cannot beat $30 pp. Servers and owners were very warm, gracious and inviting. We stayed the night at the B&B and they let us check in early since our lunch started at 11:30. Very clean and comfortable room. Sorry I didn't take pictures. My reason for not giving 5 stars was bc the hot water for the shower/tub never got as hot as I like and I had it on max with no cold water. I also was not impressed with the breakfast. I'm not a breakfast person however, I have had some amazing breakfasts and this just wasn't one of them. Scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of bacon. The did bring some kind of fried apple and that was very good. Just expected more since the Thanksgiving food was so amazing. Overall I would def return to try their dinner or brunch and most def return for any buffet they offer.

We were looking for a place for our family of four to have lunch before heading out to explore the nearby Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. There are not many places to choose from in the area, so we were thrilled to have come across The Babcock House! Not only were we warmly received by our wonderful server at this 19th century B&B, we were all thoroughly happy with our delicious meals! I went with the Mushroom & Onion Tart ($10) - sautéed oyster mushrooms, cream, caramelized onions, goat cheese, served with arugula salad. It was so delicious - I let each person in my family have a bite and they may have been a little jealous. My daughter chose the Catfish Po' Boy ($8.50) - corneal fried catfish, slaw, slow-roasted tomato jam, Cajun remoulade, served on grilled French bread. She opted to substitute the cream of crab soup for her side ($1). Both my daughter and I agreed this was the best meal we have had on our long road trip! My son went with today's special, a meatloaf sandwich. Together with sweet tea, he also said it was his favorite meal of the trip! My husband ended up ordering the "Love Me Tender" ($9) - the chicken sandwich and very much enjoyed it. Overall, were more than pleased with everything about our lunch experience at The Babcock House, including the reasonable prices, and we highly recommend it!

This review is for both lodging and dining. I'll begin with lodging so that you can skip it if you're looking for a restaurant review. My husband, child and I stayed in the suite. There's an extra charge for children and honestly, that will be a turn off for some (I know because I asked around to moms who said it was ridiculous). My feeling about it is that a lot of bed and breakfasts won't even allow your children and honestly for a child who's younger, you risk them damaging property, peeing the bed, getting snack crumbs everywhere etc, so I didn't feel it was an issue for me. I very much enjoyed our stay and felt the staff and owners were very accommodating. My husband thought being over the restaurant was too noisy, but noise doesn't bother me and it didn't disturb our sleep. We were able to get food and drinks sent to the room, there's a lovely veranda, and a fireplace and trundle bed in the suite. They have books and games and I felt it was a good use of our time and finances for a simple, intimate, get-away. I would return. We would drive 30 minutes to eat at the restaurant and I think people often do. I feel the owners focus on quality and a positive experience. I've purchased their blueberry vinaigrette separately because it's incredible. We've ordered entrees, salads, desserts, and breakfast. Nothing has been disappointing. It's a staycation top ten. Visit the parks, the local thrift stores, and scenic locations the Babcock House for 5-6 meals at least.

Lovely bed and breakfast/restaurant in Appomattox. We went for lunch and split a fried half chicken, Babcock salad and apple turnover. The portions were huge so the split was a good idea. The salad was good but I would have enjoyed a more pickled egg. The half chicken was gigantic and under the thick crust the meat was juicy and flavorful. The apple turnover was deep fried and the crust shattered with each bite.

Really enjoyed the food and service! We arrived 10 minutes before lunch service concluded and ordered Onion Soup and Cream of Crab soup to start. The Onion soup was yummy, but the crab was okay. The main courses were the highlight of the meal. The Pimento/crab/bacon cheese sandwich with house chips was reported by spouse to be quite lovely! Winner Winner catfish dinner with fries and slaw was peeerrrrffffeeect! The best fries I've had in a long long time. I don't know how they were cooked, but I don't usually eat fries but could not stop enjoying them. Our cocktails were pretty good too. Thanks for the excellent service and tasty eats!

Lovely place to eat at. I went here with my fiancé's family for Mother's Day. They had a massive buffet with chicken, salmon, beef, pasta salad, peas, cauliflower w/ cheese, salad and desserts. The building is gorgeous and vintage. The staff was incredibly kind and polite as well. I'd love to stay there sometime. I hope to be back again.

You should know first and foremost, I'm an extremely flexible person so whether this place was…read morebustling with adults, children, and dogs or had the silence of a Buddhist temple, I would be able to adjust and be happy. That said, the weekend we stayed was very quiet and I think only one or two other people were guests, who we barely even saw. This suited me perfectly since this weekend in particular, I intended to focus on rest and solitude. We felt as if we had the entire grounds to ourselves. I'm an estate/antiques broker, so I would offer that my preference is to stay at historic buildings in general so my review is colored by that preference: I spend quite a while taking photographs of the antiques and other items just for my own enjoyment, which is what I did on this occasion. There is a foyer, and several rooms for leisure. One can imagine themselves reading quietly alone in the sitting room or having conversation with other guests, discussing the impressive Christmas Village collection. The enclosed patio provides a small refrigerator and a variety of games and puzzles. I notified the owner that I would buy the vintage bamboo etagere if she ever tires of it. Freshly baked cookies are waiting for you, individually wrapped, in the foyer. They're soft not crunchy, as most cookies should be. We stayed in the Magnolia room, which provided a King bed, sofa, fireplace, spacious closet area, private bath, and access to the patio and property. It is also located off the dining area so perhaps at busier times, if you're not an early riser, this is not the bedroom for you in case other guests are up having breakfast. I'm up at 5:30 so you have to be on your game to interrupt me. The owners placed locally-made soap in the bathroom. It's always a nice touch to see local businesses supporting other local businesses. I was very impressed by the owner's and innkeeper's willingness to provide gluten and sugar-free options for me. The innkeeper is a professional chef who has appeared on the Food Network several times. We enjoyed chatting with them and purchased their cook book, a charming collection of recipes, including allergy-friendly selections. I had been looking for a recipe for gluten-free Goldfish for my son and it just so happens it was included in the collection--what a magical surprise! We enjoyed chatting with one of the owners, Renee, who is in the antiques business herself. She owns a shop not too far from the bed and breakfast which I'm certain you'd enjoy visiting. We didn't have the opportunity, but it's on the to-do list. The dining area provides snacks and beverages at all times: coffee and cocoa, water, candy, cereals, yogurt, fruit, and other snacks. This is convenient especially when traveling with a child (or a hangry husband). I enjoy being out of doors and so does my son, but fair warning, it is the South, so the mosquitoes and other biting insects are plentiful. There is a lovely magnolia tree right outside the patio door and a variety of pleasant floral scents. Take your coffee out one morning and enjoy the quiet. A stroll around the neighborhood will inform you that you're within walking distance of a charming little park and several churches, among other businesses and interesting old homes. I took pleasure in chatting with several neighbors who were out early Sunday morning. The value is extraordinary for the experience. It's less than $300 for a 3 night stay in a suite. That's incredible. You could take a friend and spend a girl's getaway weekend for next to nothing. I look forward to what the property has in store and I'll be back.

My wife and I are seasoned travelers and have stayed at many hotels and B&Bs. We recently spent 2…read morenights at Longacre. The property is very beautiful and everything the website pictures represent. This was an anniversary trip and I must begin by saying that Lara was gracious and had flowers and a bottle wine as a welcome gift in our room. We were, however, disappointed for several reasons, including some genuine safety concerns. We stayed in the Magnolia room, which according to the website is "located off the breakfast room." What is not made clear is that the door to the room opens directly to the breakfast room. There is no hall, no alcove, no buffer at all. The door is very thin. We could hear every conversation there, which means they could hear us. Translation - no privacy. From the breakfast room, when you open the doors to the Magnolia Room, immediately there are 3 steps down with no railing, no safety grips or anything else. Carrying luggage, both of us missed the last step and nearly fell. Since the steps are the same color as the floor there should be a safety strip at least on the bottom step. Do not sit on the chairs. The cushions are not fastened to the frame. They both had severe indentations so we were concerned that they would cave in at any moment. While the term "deluxe" is subjective, the continental breakfast could hardly be classified as such. Cold cereal and English muffins don't really cut it. It certainly did not measure up to any B&B we have stayed at before. Those had outstanding breakfast with many homemade items and a different menu each day. We opted to go to a local restaurant - country cooking and quite nice. The website notes "Innkeeper lives on property and is available but leaves our guests to enjoy their privacy." Translation: your room will remain untouched during your stay. While this is noted in the instruction book waiting IN THE ROOM, that's a bit late to know about this rule. Again, never have we experienced this at any other property we visited. Further, we were advised in a phone call the day of arrival that the innkeeper would not be there on our first day. Most distressing, when I questioned the innkeeper about the lack of room cleaning, I was informed that Longacre "is not a hotel." Funny, we always thought that not being a hotel should be a selling feature. There is no question that Longacre has the potential to be an outstanding B&B. Key word - potential. It's not there yet.

To say this place was "quaint and nice" would be doing The Carriage House a great disservice; rather, it is a classy and serene locale, with plenty to do within a 20-minute drive! I would without a doubt recommend this place to anyone looking for a romantic getaway with plenty to do aside from enjoying the country life. To do locally: wineries, rafting, tubing, outdoor year-round skiing, museums, visit Jefferson's other home, bike, hike, dine out, etc. Came with a package deal from LivingSocial.com - and am thrilled I picked this "escape package" - worth every penny.

When we finally decided on this hotel, mainly because it was halfway to our final destination of Pennsylvania, and it looked quite interesting, I had trouble booking through their webpage. Maybe you can blame it on me? I just couldn't quite get the system to accept the "check in--checkout" dates. So I gave them a call and booked through a representative located in Las Vegas Vegas. Everything went smoothly. She was very friendly and accommodating. We actually loved the curvy roads leading up to the winery and hotel. That portion of the trip would've been better in our roadster for sure! We were checked in by a friendly gentleman named Thomas. He gave us a room next to the outdoor pool. Finishings kind of reminded us a little bit of the accommodations. It was peacefully decorated, and mostly comfortable except for the couch. We were only using it to lounge in and something more comfortable would have been desirable. I took advantage of the dry sauna and hot tub, which was a short walk across the parking lot. We tried to take advantage of the grounds by walking around the small lake and through the fields. If they were in a dedicated walking trails, we didn't find them! Being off season one cannot take in all the amenities like the pool, some of the outdoor activities, and just the ability to lounge or otherwise enjoy the surrounds while staying here. It's not often that the place you're staying can become the destination in itself. A marathon…read morebrought me out to the area, and I was looking for a place with a kitchen and where dogs were welcome. I'm so glad I ended up staying at Fox Hill b&b, even though there were hotels closer to my race. Charlie and Julie acquired the place during the pandemic, and they're seriously killing it. Grounds. Absolutely gorgeous. The b&b is on a large stretch of land and there's plenty of small mown grass paths to explore and walk around. Mountains around, and of course close by to some legit hiking trails which I hope to hit in the future. Rooms. All I can say is that the pictures don't quite do them justice. Yes, they're quaint. I think I was expecting the rooms to "feel" older, but there were so many cute details, and everything looked new and very well kept. The bed and couch (where I may have watched like 2 hours of qvc) were comfy. They have a few rooms, two with kitchens. We got a kitchen room, and my parents got a non-kitchen room. Both with beautiful views of the grounds. The kitchen was well equipped, literally with everything that I needed (pots, saucepans, strainers, cutlery, bunch of different sized bowls/plates/mugs, etc.). There were also a lot of nice little touches, like drinks in the refrigerator that were gulped down immediately after the race or paw wipes for the dog. FOOD. This is the biggie. I've never ever ever have been to a more welcoming b&b. When I booked the room, about half a year in advance, Julie asked about dietary restrictions. I told her that we were vegan, and she asked me what type of milk I liked to drink (oat) and what I thought about vegan muffins/how I made them. I didn't think much about it because I figured she'd forget and we'd do what we always do - bring our milk, bring our food, just eat out of a can (sigh/lol). When we got there, they had bought oat milk, just egg, and had a recipe for vegan muffins for our breakfast. Breakfast was topnotch. A scramble of just egg with lots of veggies, vegan breakfast sausage, potatoes, delicious blueberry muffins, cup of fruit, and coffee with oat milk. Maybe redundant, but Charlie and Julie were also just good people. And there's some self selection it seems, because all other guests were friendly as well. Some other notes: - Dogs allowed in rooms, grounds, but not in main building (where the kitchen is). - There is an outdoor eating area if you're still uncomfortable eating inside (like my mom is). They had large heaters for the outdoor tables. - Check in between 4 - 7 p.m. They like to know when you get there because they set things up for your stay and like to welcome you in.
