Atmosphere is really fun -- live music, scenery, chill vibes. My kids couldn't get enough of the fish and turtles. We were there around sunset and it was beautiful. The serving staff were mostly younger individuals but they did a fairly good job. I would not recommend any food outside of fried; definitely don't order a salad. First time here. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. There was a solo musician performing. Our server Natalie was sweet. We shared the chocolate cake and cheesecake. Both were okay, the chocolate cake was a bit on the dry side and not very tender. The strawberry coolie was exceedingly watery. My biggest gripe was that they charged $5 for each cup of coffee (black) . Seriously I am expecting this place is more enjoyable during the warmer months. my experience was awful and i am not exaggerating. i went there with my family of nine with no reservation but just to grab some quick dinner and enjoy the music and food. However we got there and we put put our name in and they said an hour wait which we thought was not bad and none of us had a problem waiting. But when it had finally been 2 hours we to check in with the hostess, where she said that our table was ready they were just wiping it off. so we got the family to the front and when we got there she said people sat down and they did not even ask them to move she has no clue what she was doing so we decided to leave. now we were in the wrong coming in with 9 people and no reservation but you think they should at least try to stay organized with timing and actually know what they are doing. read more

As we drive down the long, quiet, country road, I can feel my hubby's eyes... where are we going. And... about 0.6 miles from our last turn you see the lights. I remember thinking... are we going to be the only ones there. And we pull through the lighted entry way and see 30+ cars. The place is so cute!!! It's honestly in the middle of the country and the pond, lights, and tables... so cute. It was Thursday night karaoke night... honestly not our thing and I wouldn't say anyone would win American Idol but if that's your thing, it would be a good place. Everyone was so encouraging and supportive. We sat outside and the view was amazing. Let's talk food.... seriously tremendously better than expected. The cheese bites were so cheesy. We got crab cakes on a whim and I knew I would regret it. But wow... they were amazing. We also did the burger and hot chicken. Both great but the burger was amazing. If you're rating the atmosphere, service and drinks I'd give it a 4-5. Many reviews mentored poor service, but we actually had great service. The night we were there the had 3 pretty big groups, and the service was still good. If you're rating it on food, I'd rate a 1-2. They definitely use a frozen burger patty, frozen chicken strips, fries, jarred salsa, etc. Their onion rings are from scratch, they're tasty. The food is nothing to write home about. read more

Reservations were at 7:00 PM and we did not receive our food until almost 8:30 PM. When the food finally arrived, it was cold, several items were incorrect, and one order never came out at all. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of management involvement. We asked to speak with a manager, but instead of coming to the table, the manager repeatedly sent our waitress back to relay "options" to us. Our waitress was actually very kind and did the best she could, but she should not have been put in the middle of handling a situation that clearly required management attention. The manager only came out after we asked a second time. I understand restaurants get busy, but poor communication, cold food, incorrect orders, and avoiding customers when issues arise is not acceptable, especially with reservations. This was our first time. The restaurant is kinda tucked back at the end of the street. It sits next to a small pond with cows grazing about. Kinda peaceful and quiet. the service was descent. Again waitress doesn't come by to ask how food was. We had to holler across the restaurant to get some ranch. The food was good. We had a cheeseburger and a blt with waffle fries. We also ordered some onion rings. Hubby had a couple of drinks. Total for the bill was $82 and that included the tip. To conclude... the food is good however they are kinda expensive. We tried this joint today for lunch, because we see their sign on the road all the time. It's located on a very nice piece of property, but the semi-paved road needs some TLC. We entered and were seated quickly. The waitress was pleasant enough. We started with the corn bites, which were crispy on the outside and had great flavor but still cool on the inside. Not too sure if that's how they're supposed to be, the ranch dipping sauce was good. Boss Lady had the 3C burger and I the Texas burger. Both were cooked correctly (medium) and the toppings tasted fresh. The fries are somewhat lackluster though. They were saltless and were nearly cooked. I told the waitress about it, all she said was that I could have ordered their shoe string fries...WTH does that mean?!?! There's ample seating inside and out near the pond. There's tons of TVs to watch stuff. The bar looks like it's well stocked. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience, but the prices are a bit on the high side. We went in about 1115am on a Friday and were the only people in there until noon. Waitress was very nice. And who I believe is the owner even stopped by for a hi and thanks for coming in. The place is super nice. Very spacious tables and even outside nice areas when it's warmer of course. Now the food --- the Texas corn bites are very flavorful and crispy good. The brisket sliders with chips are good but I could only eat one as I was filling up quick. Loved the sauce on the brisket. Flatbread was good husband liked it. We should have asked for some Parmesan cheese though!!! But we will be back as it's good and super close to our house!!! read more

Lots of Potential, Hoping Management Steps Up As someone who appreciates locally owned restaurants, I truly want The Back Porch to succeed, which is why I think it's important to share honest feedback about our visit. I've always heard good things about The Back Porch in Royse City, and I really wanted to enjoy our visit. Unfortunately, this time was disappointing. We arrived, placed full food orders, and then waited for about an hour while watching the game. During that time, we had two rounds of drinks, but no one ever checked in on our meals. Eventually, I tracked down another server who had brought our second round of drinks, only to learn that our food order had never been entered at all. She did apologize and offered to put the order in then, but by that point we had already waited far too long. The only compensation offered was 50% off our drinks, which didn't quite make up for the situation. I completely understand that mistakes happen and that restaurants can be busy, but what stood out most was that no manager was ever involved. In a locally owned establishment -- especially when it wasn't overly busy -- I think management should be aware and step in to make things right. That's an opportunity to turn a negative situation into a positive one. The atmosphere and setup are great, and I'd like to see this place succeed. I hope this feedback helps, because with stronger management presence and attention to service, The Back Porch could really shine. For now, I feel a 3-star rating is fair -- the experience fell short, but the potential is definitely there if improvements are made. read more

So first time here. Big open room with a bar and 7 TV's above bar, 3 in front and 1 big screen. Has a large patio that overlooks water. I'm sure it is packed during warm weather. Had chicken fried steak that came with mashed potatoes. Asked for gravy on side but that did not happen. Steak was not fresh but out of box. Partner had creamy pasta with shrimp. He said was more of a smoke taste then cream but gave it a 6. Ordered Lake runner drink and you definitely get your alcohol content. I could have lit a match. Appetizer was the winner. Texas corn bites. Missed getting a picture as we inhaled them. Sweet corn, jalapeños, cream cheese and bacon. Deep fried and served with ranch. 10/10! We will come back and try something else. Also, I realize that there is and outside and they open up the garage doors to the outside but the fly situation is really bad even with the garage doors closed. Our previous visit I had one of the greatest burgers I've had in a long time, I like mine medium rare and was cooked perfectly. This visit I ordered the same burger only to receive an overdone burger very close to well done. Told the waitress the burger was ordered medium rare and it's over done. She went to the kitchen and came back and stated that because they are smash burgers they can't be served medium or medium rare. They would not take my burger back and fix a new one. First time visitors My wife and I went today Beautiful weather. First thing we loved was the remote location. The next was the setting wonderful building small lake and awesome outdoor patio. Wasn't to busy yet at Noon on a Sunday. Greeted right at the door and seated. We picked indoor as the sun was beaming on the outdoor area. The high top table have no umbrellas for shade. My wife had the Fish tacos and I had the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with waffle fries. I thought they had Shoestring fries but she said all they had was waffle cut. Loved the full bar selection of beers and cocktails. Food came out in normal time the Fish tacos (3) made with ahi tuna and spicy slaw. Wonderful!! My Nashville Hot was so tasty. The waffle fries my least favorite type wasn't bad. Crispy as a waffle gets. We had the the Appi Onion rings, WOW big had dipped not frozen. Wonderful! All in all was a great experience. the place itself its super cool awesome setting and vibe .. but the food is well.. straight out of a bag it taste like. The chicken fried steak was definitely straight from a bag pretty small & thin and tasted like Tyson .. fries also came out cold and the burger came out with soggy bread and VERY pink & super greasy, the tacos & flat bread was pretty decent though. I think it's more for the bar and views and the food isn't the main focus, I just thought it was so that's probably on me. Our server was super nice and we didnt say anything to her about the food because it's obv not her fault, she was great.
