Bagels are one of my main food groups so I know a good bagel when I eat one. And these bagels definitely hit the mark for me. I came here one morning with a friend when I was in the area and was definitely not disappointed. I had an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox (my go-to at any bagel place). The bagel was nice and big, cream cheese was tasty, and lox was fresh. I think pricing was on par with what it should be and I was more than happy with the sandwich. I think the point that came off (really only half a point, if I could) would be for the seating (lack thereof), and coffee options. There are a few small, high table tops without chairs inside of the store. Accessibility-wise, it is a bit of a fail. Secondly, there isn't much variety in the coffee offered. Just hot or iced. Which isn't a deal-breaker for me, but the iced coffee wasn't all that great. Aside from these two small things the service I experienced was nice. Our neighborhood Bagel joint is wonderful. Run by great folks, customer service is always paramount. The Bagels are very good, especially when coming hot from the oven. Locally roasted coffee, great whitefish salad and more. Sandwiches, breakfast or lunch are nicely prepared. Lots of cream cheese varieties and good sliced Nova. Best neighborhood bagelry! I love their everything flat bagels for their sandwiches- however they run out quickly, so you have to be there early. Great variety of bagels/cream cheese to choose from, and very friendly staff- who always remember you! My favorite bagel sandwiches are the Nova the Run and Whitefish- be sure to give it a try! The main con is the cream cheese supposed to be the best to be in business for a bakery but taste like no sugar was added my only suggestion is to add sugar to the cream cheese the kind in the grocery store taste better and the eggs tasted kinda fake. Idk please fix this my bagels were delicious my only problem is the eggs tasting fake then again the cream cheese no sugar and I got strawberry too so I just didn't know why it wasn't sweet. Was looking for spot to pick up some breakfast and someone insisted that we come to The Bagelry. They have some of the best bagels I have ever had. Better then most of the NYC bagels I have had. They are made fresh right there and in front of you. Boil in water and bake. Their selection of flavored bagels is amazing. Crazy wheat, parmigiana and spinach, jalapeño... I ordered the spinach and parmigiana with egg and cheese and it was so good! Crispy but chewing at the same time. Had a bite of the lox on the run and the lox were fresh and there was a good balance of ingredients. Loved everything so much we got some bagels to go for the weekend. Anybody who prefers bagels from the grocery store/Panera/Einstein/etc are absolutely insane. These bagels have no comparison in the area that I've found yet. I know that there is a place over in Kemp Mill that might come close but I have not been yet. The service is generally very quick here (unless of course you come in during a peak time). Weekend mornings tend to be busy but customers are served efficiently. Further, the staff is friendly and a lot of the local high school/college students work here - so you're bound to see a familiar face from time to time. Remember to watch them bake bagels in the old school oven too! You can feel the heat coming off this thing when it's cranking away! The number of bagel varieties they have here is staggering. I'm generally a plain or everything type of person...but I've been known to take the dive and get a salt bagel (I have no idea why they still make this - it can't sell THAT well). You can also buy day old bagels that are wrapped up from the counter. There are also a number of spreads you can buy. The plain cream cheese is very good and fresh tasting. They also have desserts/pastries and catering as well. I know they serve deli sandwiches as well but I've never ordered anything other than bagel stuff here. My go-to order is sausage/egg/cheese on an everything bagel. Continuing on - you can also get your Thanksgiving and other holiday meals ordered here. This place is especially popular around the Jewish holidays. Get your order in early - they wrap everything very well and will give you pickup instructions. There is *enough* parking but they share a lot with other businesses so it can vary from time to time. Worst case scenario - you can park across the street where the China Dynasty and Pizza Hut are and walk across the street. Bottom line - you will not find many places around here with superior bagels. It is tucked away on a street that may not be visible from the main roads (NH Ave and Randolph) but in an age of Google Maps and Waze, this should not be a problem. The Bagelry has become a long standing tradition over the years - even through ownership change. Our family hopes that this place stays open for a long time to come. We went on the morning of July 4th and the staff was clearly more focused on closing up early than on getting orders right. While we were waiting for our order, another customer who had left a few minutes earlier returned because she had not gotten part of her order. I guess that should have been a red flag to us. When we got home, we discovered that our order was COMPLETELY wrong. It's really difficult to mess up an order as thoroughly as they did ours. We ORDERED a toasted plain bagel with maple cream cheese, a toasted spinach parmesan bagel with plain cream cheese and bacon, a "Maven" wrap (basically a BLT), a bagel dog, two bags of chips and two drinks. What we were CHARGED FOR (according to the receipt) was "1 Bagel w/Cream Cheese and Meat," "1 Maven," and the drinks. What we GOT was a toasted plain bagel with plain cream cheese and bacon (wrong), a toasted spinach parmesan bagel with maple cream cheese and bacon (wrong and inedible), no "Maven," a bagel dog (for which we were not charged), 2 bags of chips (one of which should have come with the missing Maven, so we got one for which we were not charged) and the two bottled drinks, which were the only things they actually got completely right. Normally, we check receipts and orders before we leave when we get take-out, but the staff was so clearly in a hurry to close that we just got our order and left. HUGE mistake. If we ever go back, which is doubtful, we'll be sure to open everything up and check it before we leave and I recommend you do the same. read more

Having just experienced the NYC Bagels, this place is as legit as it gets. That fresh bagel with perfect toasted outside that coats a warm pillowy doughy inside topped with a generous amount of cream cheese. This is as good as it gets. Adding bacon will be your best choice that day. Definitely worth the visit. read more

This bagelry is amazing! I recommend it to anyone who is close by. I gave this place 5 stars because of Nandini, who works here! She was so sweet and nice when I was being indecisive (as usual) about what to order. She gave me samples on a bunch of cream cheese and was very generous on their portions even though they were just samples. I ended up getting the blueberry bagels with strawberry cream cheese and it was delicious! If I can, I would eat bagels from this place every single day. Too bad I live in California :( Anyways, I really love love the bagels here and cross your fingers to have Nandini there so you can try out a bunch of cream cheese flavors. Oh and did I mention that they have a wide variety of cream cheese flavors? I think I tried Rocky Road and something else with chocolate haha. I pass by here very often and I went in and ordered some bagels. One to go and 4 to take home. Their bagels are so obviously fresh, they are amazing. They taste very different from the grocery store kind because of the freshness; I think. When I got home, two of my ordered bagels weren't in my bag so I called the shop up. They took care of the issue. I understand that we're all human and stuff happens. What's important is how people handle that stuff when stuff happens, and these folks handled it beautifully. One thing that I didn't know was that this shop is so much more than bagels. They have coffee, drinks, lots of bagel toppings, platters of meats, and stuff like that. The only thing I can see to improve is their coffee station. If you really want to seriously attract them, having more options like vanilla creamer, stevia or sugar in the raw sweetener can actually make a big difference. I'll need to come by with my family sometime soon for a quick sit-down to try out some of their other offerings. This seems like a great place to have cater your reception or special event. I was served immediately when I arrived, no wait - which was great. When I left the young lady at the register told me that I could call my order ahead so it would be ready immediately next time, that was very nice. That sounds like a great perk for those of us who are rush-rush type of people. Overall outstanding customer service and outstanding product. What else could you ask for? read more

Good place with a very good, pleasant professional staff. Wide array of food choices besides the array of tasty desserts and good bagels. One of my favorites was a blondie type brownie. Slightly off the beaten path (on a side street between New Hampshire Ave and Randolph Road) with parking available in a lot or on the street. The store opens at 7 am and has been closing at 2pm but as of March it will close at 3p.m. Good place made even better by nice, good people. read more

Such a cute mom and pop bagel shop. I just got back from Montreal so I was in the mood to fill the hole in my heart with a bagel. There was such a huge variety of bagels to choose from and the all the funky combos of cream cheese looked amazing. My boyfriend got the salmon lox bagel on the old bay bagel and he seemed to enjoy it. I got the jalapeño bagel with scallion cream cheese and it was awesome. The bagel had the right amount of spicy and the scallion cream cheese really paired well with it. I hope to come back and try the challah bagel and the strawberry cream cheese. Way back...waaaaaay back, our dad took us here after our piano lessons were over next door and introduced us to our first bagels. Thank you, Dad for not making our first introduction to these lovely rings of chewy carby goodness one of a generic, get-it-from-a-plastic-bag-kind and giving us the real deal Holyfield. Mary took our order and was terrific. She offered to separate savory bagels from sweet...nothing like having a chocolate chip bagel tasting oniony to ruin a good meal. She also offered us freezer bags, which was super cool. However, we didn't need them as these bad boys were long gone by the next morning! I'm bumping up my star rating to five stars for the Bagelry. Their bagels are simply fantastic and their service is top notch. I've been coming here for years, and I've been stopping by almost every day this week. I realized that I needed to update this review when the guy who was taking my order felt around the plain bagel bin with the wax paper to get me the hottest bagel. That is good service. And their bagels are still phenomenal. I used to get upset when there weren't any hot bagels available, but I microwaved my tender but cold bagel for 25 seconds, and it was just killer. Their plain, blueberry, poppy/salt and everything bagels are the best in the area! And some of my favorite bagel sandwiches are: bagel with lox and cream cheese, BLT, bacon/egg/cheese bagel, Mexican omelette bagel. I also really like their whitefish salad - mmmmmm. So why only 3 stars? The service is iffy and not always the nicest, and it's kind of an inconvenient location. Best bagels in Silver Spring, hands down. Best cream cheese as well. The owner is excellent - I have had several conversations with him and he is always friendly. The variety of items is great. The prices are reasonable for what you get. The owner works very hard to please the customers - but his staff, sometimes can be shaky. That being said, we're not talking about a prime steakhouse here. I don't EXPECT the service to be perfect. These are high school kids that he is giving a chance. The kids are trying, but I notice minor mistakes. If a mistake is made, mention it to the owner and he will fix it immediately. Bottom line - * GREAT FOOD - from the basic bagel and cream cheese to the Jewish fare which is great as well. Bakery is awesome. * OWNER CARES ABOUT CUSTOMERS - got a complaint? complain to the owner and give him a chance to correct it. * DECENT PRICES - not the cheapest bagel and cream cheese you will find, but for what you get - it's worth it. You want cheap? go up the road to Shoppers Food Warehouse and eat that crap. * LOCATION STINKS - Can't fault them for this, but the location makes it a bit hard to find unless you are familiar with the area. Good place to stop by for fresh bagels and coffee. It can get crowded but the lines move fairly quickly. They make specialty sandwiches with bagels but I just got the everything bagel with cream cheese. They really put alot of cream cheese on it so if you don't like alot, ask for a smear. They also give you little plates where you can sample their pastries, turkey, roast beef and salads... I could probably just eat the samples and get full but they encourage you to help yourself which I really liked about this place. There's only like 3 small tables so it's really hard to sit and eat which is the only downside. The bagels here are very good. Let us be clear about that. Some are better than others. The plain bagels leave something to be desired but they know their way around blueberry and poppy. On that note I will give them a 3.25 with the potential for a 5 at times. I still think consistency is an issue. The price is slightly higher than what it used to be. All that aside: The cream cheese. The maple walnut and various flavors of cream cheese are all a 5. I have never been let down by the amount of, or the quality of the cream cheese. The business is under new ownership the last few years...the remodeling is beautiful and the food is still good, but the prices are really high now. I used to eat there every day for lunch but after a year of these new prices there's no way I can afford that now. The owner knows I am a regular customer and is not always that friendly- and sometimes doesn't acknowledge me at all. I still go occasionally, but I am mostly disappointed with the decline in friendly service by the owner. I mean, if you can't get more than a rare smile after spending $10 a day there for more than a year then it's obvious my business isn't very appreciated. read more
