Our favorite Farmington area restaurant is always a good choice. The food is flavorful;the cocktails different (but not really weird), and the team is friendly and attentive. Our server, Jordan, quickly got our cocktails while we looked at the specials. My winter gin cocktail was tasty and looked great. The truffle lemon artichokes and balsamic glazed roasted Brussels were a great start and a full meal for my wife as well. I chose the bbq bahn mi - loved it. We have been to the Homestead three times now as we passed through Farmington. The food has been consistently good. The atmosphere strives to be classy. This place has such potential. Very nice and comfortable inside. The hostess was very nice and we were seated right away. The waiter was personable and attentive when he was not running, but obviously over stretched. After waiting for food for half an hour he brought rolls and an apology. Another half hour and the food arrived. My husband enjoyed his salad very much and the first few bites of the Chicken Parm was delicious and then it tasted smoky. I looked at the under side and found it was burnt, the 2nd one was worse. I didn't have time to wait for another, so I scraped off the breading and finished it and some pasta. When I showed the waiter he immediately went to his supervisor to see what could be done and they gave me a choice of getting another or a reduction in my bill. The food was tasty. I ordered the baked haddock and shrimp dish. The portion was incredibly small. They offer a petite size and an entree size. I thought they maybe messed up and gave me the petite size. When the bill came, it was confirmed that they charged me for the entree size. We may come back, but I definitely won't order this again. Our young server was stretched a bit with also having inside tables to serve, but she was very nice and accommodating, and we had a good chat while we were waiting through the various stages of the meal. I had the Reuben and it was excellent and the French fries were fine. I ordered a side of onion rings and they were a bit more crunchy than I prefer, but you can't win them all. It could even be the way they were intended to be, and you might prefer them that way. The draught beer seemed a bit pricey for my budget ($8), but they had several Maine brews to choose from along with bottles, wines and other drinks. I stuck with water this time. Our friends were happy enough with their choices (which by the way were somewhat limited to pub food). One had a turkey sandwich and the other a chicken salad. Their in house potato chips were pretty good. So if we find ourselves in college-town Farmington a few more times for lunch I would not hesitate to return there. We had dinner as a family here recently and it was absolutely wonderful. The food, drink and service - all fabulous. I am so thankful we have innovative food at a nice restaurant local to us. That said, it's a shame that the parents of a spoiled 12 yo feel it's necessary to malign the only fine dining restaurant we have in the area because their brat can't sing at open mic night anymore. I've been here a ton and should let people know that this place has really gone through multiple changes over the years. If you read reviews from even 3 years ago just FYI, they're really talking about a different place entirely. I've seen it in periods where it has been both good and bad. I think they're in a period where everything is really working right now. The place can fill up pretty quickly on the weekends. Keep that in mind. If so, you may wait to get a table, and when seated a longer wait for food than normal...which is kind of typical of any place really. Most times I've been here it's been a typical or normal wait that you would expect for non pub food. In other words, these are prepared meals. The service folk are friendly, helpful and do a good job in my opinion. My feeling is the chef is now focusing on the food and not a wealth of choices on the menu. This is good and bad. I suppose. I've noticed the food prep gets better and better all the time and the flavors are getting more interesting. They change the menu around, which can be seen as good and bad. I like that I can try new things, but also miss faves that have been replaced. Good drink selections. The place itself is very comfortable. This time, I got the spinach artichoke dip to start, it was good. but it needed more spinach to be considered a spinach artichoke dip in my book. and for 13 dollars I expect more dip! Before we even sat down she was rude about the fact that we needed a table for 8, which required her to put 2 tables together. I'm not sure what the problem was, but we did enjoy the food. Stumbled on this place while looking for a quick lunch in Farmington. They have a very spacious dining area and a menu that's quite diverse, from burgers and sandwiches to items with some ethnic flair (Moroccan, etc). Service was very friendly, although our food took some time to arrive. I tried the roasted vegetable gyro, which has broccolini, squash, onions, peppers, cheddar, and tzatziki in Naan bread. The broccolini was a little hard to bite or chew through, but it tasted fresh, and the cheese was a little overpowering against the other flavors. I opted for a side of sweet potato fries, which weren't completely crisp enough. We also tried one of the "best burgers ever" - the basic homestead burger. We found this little restaurant along the way home back to New York from Sugarloaf. It was the perfect spot to stop at, as there didn't seem to be much of anything else that we were on the road for the hour or so. There are 15-20 tables situated in the large main room and then another ~10 tables situated in the smaller room to the right which is beside the bar. The rooms are bare and simplistic, almost giving you the impression that the establishment is temporary with exception to the bar area. For my breakfast entree, I ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette ($8.59) which is a hearty choice consisting of what felt like 3 X-Large eggs loaded with a generous serving of ham, bacon, sausage, and Vermont cheddar topped with hollandaise sauce. Mmmm. I was amazed at how tasty my omelette was, with just the right amount of meat to make it substantial without being overwhelming. The cheese and hollandaise sauce took it over the top, which I found myself eating every last bit of this delicious omelette. Complimented on the side is a serving of home fries cut in cube-like fashion and choice of their own homemade breads, which I decided to try the Anadama Bread, which is made from cornmeal and molasses. The 4 halves of Anadama Bread were sliced very thick, giving the impression as if I were eating 8 halves of bread. Definitely a hearty meal that will not disappoint. Another added bonus that I did not expect when I asked for hot sauce, was that they also had Sriracha Hot Sauce in addition to Tabasco Hot Sauce. The Sriracha complimented perfectly with my omelette to give it a nice dose of heat. Who would have known that the little town of Farmington with no Asian population, from what I could tell, has a killer hot sauce in stock. Our waitress was very attentive as she refilled our cups of coffee and checked up on us occasionally to make sure everything was great. She even offered to break up our bill 4 ways when we asked for the bill, which was very accommodating. I'd have to say that Homestead Bakery was a definite winner in my book, and will stop by again when in the neighborhood. It's a local restaurant serving fresh local vegetables, freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries, and an eclectic selection of draft beers. With fairly cheap prices, hearty dishes, and great table service, there isn't much to dislike about this place, except for possibly jazzing up the decor of the establishment as it feels far from cozy. I've eaten here twice; once for a late breakfast and once for a late lunch. (I guess there's a theme there.) For breakfast I had the Thai Wonder Eggs. This is a scramble with broccoli, onion spinach, tomato, green pepper, mushroom, home fries and cheddar. The only thing 'Thai about it' is that is is served with a sweet chili sauce. This is not a complaint, as the combination was quite good. I particularly like the fact that they shred the cheese extremely finely so it really melts into the scramble. It came with a very good raisin toast from the bakery. From 2-4 they have a 'late afternoon' menu with a limited selection of items. I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was served on a brioche roll. The brioche roll is a bit of a cliché, but this particular roll was fairly light. The sandwich was served with some very good French fries. Service was efficient and quick. My water glass and coffee cup were kept full. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Farmington read more
