We have been going to Sweet Cheeks Bakery as long as they have been open, and for the life of me, I have nothing bad to say about the place. I briefly kvetched about not being open later, and voila, they seemingly heard my wish and installed a pastry vending machine so that local residents could "grab an eclair at 2am." I was hoping that they would expand into breakfast items, and there they go, creating breakfast burritos and sandwiches. When I was sure I'd never find an amazing lunch spot in the area, boom, grab and go lunch sandos that rival any lunch joint in the state. I can't say enough good things about the charming and friendly counter gal, the warm, welcoming shop, the variety of delicious and gorgeous pastries and the ease of getting in and out of the location. Sorry Sweet cheeks, we want to love and support you. Breakfast in Bucksport was disappointing. Day Old, oil soaked home fries warmed up and re-salted was an accompaniment to undercooked eggs Benedict where eggs were barely cooked. Home fries were bad. Overly salted. I can't be nice about it. And selling breakfast burrito with no hot sauce? Service was slow even with 4 waitress and 7 tables. But ONE thing you do well is pastry. Keep doing pastry. Drop the restaurant, but maybe clients like salty slow. read more

Please consider boycotting this rank amateur so-called "boutique" bakery. My original intention was to support local businesses. I ordered an 8" round cake, vanilla and white frosting with a cake topper I would provide. Instead of jotting down the information, while standing at their establishment they forced me to send an email to the owner to review and approve. They stated they would charge me $50 and told me it would take a week. A few days passed and I was notified that they could not do it because, and I quote from their own email, "beyond our expertise." This bakery wasted many days deciding what they could do, only to turn me down. I immediately went to Frank's Bake Shop in Bangor where I was pleasantly greeted, they listened to me, and within minutes (with no emails nor approval process) stated the same cake would cost $39.52 and would be ready the next day. Sweet Cheeks in my opinion is nothing more than amateurs who will happily charge anyone the highest price for their products, force their customers through needless bureaucracy, and apparently is owned by a power-crazed micro-manager. I now boycott this establishment and unfortunately will go out of my way to find way better products elsewhere where they do it in a timely manner. Shame on you Sweet Cheeks! You are a wolf in sheep's clothing! Those living in the Buckpsort/Ellsworth area should be forgiven for looking outside the area for way better value and proper customer service. read more

The fun and energetic employee patiently answered all of our questions about the delicious pastries and then volunteered, "Do you need recommendations on places to visit today? I've got 'em!" Thanks to her we found a delicious lunch in a very scenic location, visited a beautiful small coastal town, and stopped at a lighthouse we hadn't known about. P.S. I saw an article about how Sweet Cheeks Bakery on Verona Island had a 24/7 vending machine for its wares. Frankly, I'm surprised that it took me as long as it did to get there. But my husband and I stopped by recently to peruse their offerings, and we were very pleasantly surprised. The door to the room to the right of the bakery proper is open, and inside is a black machine just like the one I saw in the picture in the WABI article. There are many levels of treats available - at that time only one non-sweet one, a chicken salad sandwich - with buttons on the machine to whirl them around so that you can peruse all of them. The prices are neatly posted next to each level. When I was there, there were carmelitas (if you haven't had one, you should), lemon bars, carrot cake, various flavors of cheesecake, mock Hostess cupcakes . . . That's all I remember, but I'm sure there were more offerings than that. And every item was good-sized, too - they don't scrimp on their portions! The Hostess cupcake, in particular, was the size of my head! I had collected recipes and seen pictures of carmelitas, but never had one, so, on impulse, I grabbed one. The other thing I chose was one of my favorite desserts that I've made myself many times - a lemon bar. I have to confess - we popped open that carmelita on the way home, and it was HEAVEN! It was more than enough for two, and incredibly delicious, with its brown sugary oatmeal crust, the chocolate chips, and the pools of caramel on the top . . . Ahem. Sorry. (wiping the drool away) We managed to hold off on eating the lemon bar until the next evening. Frankly, I was prepared to be disappointed. Most places don't make the filling lemony enough, nor do they manage to get the right crust-to-filling ratio. But Sweet Cheeks Bakery definitely does BOTH! It was one of the best lemon bars I've ever eaten - lovely, tart lemon curd lying on a bed of sweet, buttery shortbread. It was unbelievably good! And, again, more than enough for two to enjoy. So, suffice it to say, we'll be back - and try to hit them while they're open. They seem to be expanding into savory offerings, too - breakfast pizzas, pulled pork and meatball subs, as well as family sized and individual chicken pot pies, to mention a few, which all look amazing! If their meal options are anywhere near as good as their sweets, I'll be living on their doorstep in the near future! read more

An amazing gem in the small town of Bucksport, Maine. Egg sandwiches, and some of the most amazing baked goods we've ever seen. As someone who suffers from a gluten sensitivity, they went out of their way to accommodate my last minute request for a gluten free egg sandwich. It. Was. THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. (Do the business a favor and call ahead if you need A gluten-free egg sandwich before coming). Is there gluten free English Muffin is unlike anything I've ever had. They have egg sandwiches and home fries in a turnstile that's ready for you as you walk in. My wife's croissant egg sandwich was not greasy at all in her words, "Perfect. Perfection" Home fries? Beautiful. I got the blueberry lemon scone (gluten free), but couldn't talk my wife into getting the bacon maple doughnut. My only regret is that we found this gem on our way out of town instead of on our way in. Although, my waist line is thanking me for that. We are from Florida and happened across this little bakery on our way to Acadia National Park. The treats on display in the case were overwhelming! It was so difficult to choose because they all looked so yummy!! The whoopee pie was huge, soft, and delicious. The best part of our experience, though, was the proprietor. OMG this place is amazing. I was driving through Belfast and stopped in on a whim. The chocolate macaroon has crispy toasted coconut and a thick bottom of chocolate. The sticky bun is the best I've ever had - encrusted with nuts and brown sugar. The carrot cake squares are also delicious. Found this place on our drive back from Camden. It's a very unassuming place and honestly if I hadn't been craving something sweet not sure I would've stopped. I'm so glad we did though. We barely made it in before they closed. They didn't have a huge selection left at that point but we grabbed an eclair, a lemon square, a massive whoopie pie, and a mini strawberry pie.
