I had owned expensive Lynx and Saber grill in the past and they didn't hold up costing big bucks in repair and down time. Mary knows her stuff. She figured out my real needs and showed me all the options. We eventually settled on a Weber option that gave me everything I needed at a lower price point. Thank goodness for the experts at The Bar-B-Que Barn - they saved our BBQ this weekend! I have an extremely old Skyline Series Weber grill, and when we ran out of propane the new tank didn't fit the hose on the grill. A trip to Home Depot yielded an adaptor that didn't fit, and with 3 hours till BBQ time, I was getting desperate. I called The Bar-B-Que Barn and spoke with one of the guys there, and when I described the problem he knew exactly what I was talking about and how to fix it. I ran over to their store in Arlington and in five minutes he had produce the piece that I needed to convert the hose on my old grill into one that would fit a standard propane tank, and even put some sealant on the piece so it wouldn't leak when I installed it. He gave me a quick tutorial on how to perform the minor surgery needed to install the new piece and told me to invest in a 9/16ths wrench and I was on my way. After arriving home, I was able to fix the grill in less than five minutes, and thanks to The Bar-B-Que Barn, when 20 guests showed up for dinner the grill was cookin'! If you live in Arlington, Cambridge, Somerville, or anywhere in the surroudning area, I highly reccomend a trip to The Bar-B-Que Barn to fill or exchange your propane tank or stock up on grill accessories! They might even offer you a hot dog fresh off the grill while you are there :) read more

The is exactly the kind of place we should be buying stuff from instead of Home Depot. These guys actually know what they are doing, and they offer--in addition to the usual brands--high quality stuff made in the US. We bought an MHP grill from them and it's been great. No stupid gimmicks, just a solid, incredibly well-built grill that will last a lifetime and that we never would've known existed had we gone to Home Depot and bought the same cheap Chinese-made crap we bought three years ago that is now rusted out. And here's the thing: the grill we bought didn't actually cost any more than the one we were planning on getting. Update: Over a year later and everything is working beautifully despite being permanently outside. Not a spot of rust and it works as well as a day we bought it. Have grilled for years but decided I wanted to give smoking a try. Went here because it's close to my house and thought it would be good to get some help from specalists. The guy on duty was helpful in explaining smoking but also gave off the impression that if I had to ask so many questions about smoking, I was in the wrong place. Understand smoking is complex and don't expect someone to give me step by step instructions, but was treated like I wasn't quite worthy of their smokers if I was such a beginner. Gave three stars because upon some further research, their prices are in line with what you can find on line with only a slight mark-up which I'm always happy to pay to a sole proprietorship with decent service. Also, asked about some replacement parts for my grill. They were quite knowledgeable about the replacement parts and had a good inventory of them as well so definitely a good resource for those items. read more

We had been to two hardware stores looking at grills, but had a few questions, and there had been no one around to answer them. I am so happy we found the Bar-B-Que barn. Within minutes of walking in, someone was answering our questions about smokers, showing us different options. It turns out, it was one of the owners helping us. She was super-friendly, we had a good laugh about her new exchange student, who was a vegetarian (gasp!). We settled on a Weber charcoal (we had looked at the same grill at the other stores, price was the same, maybe even 10 bucks cheaper) with smoker attachments. We had looked at other more expensive options (green egg, someday!), but we are apartment dwellers and needed a grill that would be easy to move in and out of a basement. We were never pressured to buy anything more expensive, but they also don't sell a lot of the crap that a Home Depot has on display. The only dirty look we got was when my boyfriend mentioned lighter fluid. Mrs BBQ Barn handed us a box of starter cubes and said, "They're 5 bucks." Even though my boyfriend had been raised to use starter fluid, he was willing to concede this point to Mrs BBQ Barn. We just won't tell his dad. read more

Having just received a Big Green Egg as a (generous) gift from a family member, I went to the BBQ Barn to stock up on accessories. The extremely helpful salesperson identified the accessories that made sense for a beginner...and actually talked me out of buying several additional accessories, suggesting I spend time using the BGE before spending money on accessories I may not need. I was so impressed by how they handled my earlier visit that when I decided to replace my aging Weber gas grill, I returned yesterday to the BBQ Barn to make my purchase at a locally-owned business that had earned my appreciation and respect. I have to say this is how a business should be run. Customer service is fantastic. My wife purchased a Green Egg for me for my 40th Birthday and I am now turning 53. Past year or so the glaze started pealing on the base and the fire box had some cracks. Well 13 years ago I never registered it and didn't have my original receipt which you need to register it on BGE's site. I emailed the Barn and with the little info I had Mary remembered my wife's name and was able to service my warranty. I was so impressed I ended up buying a new Weber and they were very helpful with information and suggestions. They are a bit out of the way for me but I will now go there for all my BBQ needs and supplies. Top notch friendly service with that real family (mom and pop) store feel. read more

These guys are great. I brought in my non-functioning grill (bought elsewhere) that I had not been able to fix. They figured out the problem & fixed it and provided me with a better hose that I needed. Didn't charge for anything beyond the hose. This place is awesome! Owners know grills back and forwards! Went to Home Depot needing a part for my weber spirit. Was told..."they don't supply these anymore...you got to call weber directly" My dad who lives in Arlington like I do said to go to the barbecue barn... I went in and spoke to the owner who knows everything there is to know about Webers and he asked me a couple of questions and then went into the back and came back with the parts I needed. I asked how he could have them after what I was told and he said- that's the difference between a place that sells grills and a grill place! Darn right! They were very nice! We bought a Weber grill for list price, which is what you'd pay anywhere. But when they delivered it, they refused to put it on our deck! So here the weather is warming up, and here the grill sits in our garage. How am I supposed to get it up onto the deck? Isn't that where most people BBQ? This July 4th weekend I was faced with a barbecue crisis. House full of guests for the holiday and my old grill (a Charbroil Red) literally fell apart. Bar-B-Que Barn, off a little side street in Arlington MA however, came to my rescue! I had been using BBQ Barn for years, buying fancy wood, charcoal and and various little tools and had always been impressed with their help and attention. When I visited them Sunday (July 1), they had all the grills in stock that were on their website including the Weber Genesis II models I wanted to look into. Their prices were great ($100 less than Home Depot) so I made the purchase. I mentioned to them that I needed the grill the next day, delivered and built, they said, understandably that would be difficult but they would try. The very next morning, I got a call from the Barn that indeed the grill was ready for delivery. They delivered the new grill exactly when they said, in time for dinner, took away my old junker, and guided me through hooking up the grill to our house Natural Gas line. I was up and running before dinner and ready to Grill. I could not thank Bar-B-Que Barn enough or rate them more highly. Great advice, great service and a value way beyond Home Depot or Lowes. They were cheaper and provided delivery and grill removal service their competitors do not. So If you are anywhere close to Arlington, and need Barbecue or Smoker supplies or equipment, do yourself a favor, go somewhere that loves grilling, smoking, BBQ and customers and shop at Bar-B-Que Barn. read more

We needed to buy an electric grill to comply with Massachusetts fire code requirements which do not permit propane or charcoal grills in multi-family housing. As we had not had an electric grill before, we needed some help in choosing a model. We had received a recommendation from a friend that The Bar-B-Que Barn would be a good place to shop. We drove over there, and they were very helpful. We ordered a Weber 2400 electric grill after reviewing a couple of models with one of the salespeople. It was the largest size for the electric grills that we saw, but, nevertheless, smaller than the propane model we previously owned. But it met our needs, and the price seemed fair. The store thought they had the grill in stock, but, when they found that they didn't, they offered to assemble and deliver the grill to us with an accompanying cart without a delivery charge. read more

PERFECTION _ I am a customer for life. I had a problem with an MHP Grill that I purchased from a company that went out of business. The grill needed to be replaced and was under warranty. After many emails to MHP I gave up. My wife suggested that I drive 1 hour to the BBQ Barn. The owners were very helpful, very nice, extremely honest. A beautiful store hidden in an industrial area of Arlington, this is the best outdoor grill and barbecue store in the Boston area. Also, the Barn not only sells that well-known big brand but they also sell two high end brands (Green Egg and MHP). I bought a big brand grill from them and was so unhappy I brought it back and they gave me full credit on an MHP. Steaks and many other grilled foods need to be seared. My MHP gets incredibly hot creating a perfect sear and a completely cooked steak in minutes. If the big brand makes a grill similar to the MHP, I have never seen it. The big brand I brought home took a half hour to cook a two inch thick steak medium rare. I love my MHP and I strongly recommend it. Regardless of what grill you choose, please go to this store and support this local resource. Also, the big brand fixes its prices so the Barn will sell you the big brand at the same price as a Home Depot or Lowe's but with more models to choose from and MUCH better service. read more

The small location near Arlington Center has one of the best prices in the area for propane tank refills! Unlike tank exchanges at local hardware stores and supermarkets, they refill your tank to the legal limit. Bottom line you get more for less. They also have a great selection of accessories and while we haven't needed parts, our understanding is they have a large stock at fair prices. The owner could be a bit friendlier but generally we arrive just before closing on a hot Saturday afternoon. Bottom line: Recommended for their great value on propane tank refills. read more

Excellent variety of woods in both chip and chunk for smoking and lump charcoal too. Certainly one of the better BBQ stores in the Boston area and WAY better than the selection or advice you'll get a box stores. This is a friendly family run business and not some ultra high end Wolf, SubZero, Lynx etc BBQ jewelry store. Well worth a visit. Clearly a valuable resource for those in the Boston area.. Went to talk about replacing my old beat up (or so I thought) Weber. I was prepared to purchase a new grill until I spent a few minutes with Mary. I showed her a picture and expected that she would suggest replacing it. Nope. She looked at it and said it was a solid grill that was better than the one I was looking at even though it was considerably older. What an unexpected honest response.
