My dryer died on a Saturday. Mike of Convenient Appliance was recommended by a friend. He called me right back and said he could come Sunday morning. I was impressed. He came right on time Sunday morning. Immediately diagnosed the dryer problem. He had the right parts and even showed me what he was doing, what goes wrong in a dryer and fixed our appliance in 20 minutes. He charged less than Blue Book rates. Then, he came upstairs and checked out the odd noise from a refrigerator and offered some advice. A great experience. read more

I wish I could give a better review because Mike seems like a nice enough guy. Long story short, our washer stopped working and when he came out the first time he basically disconnected and reconnected the hoses and it ran okay. For 2 days. Then it had the same problem. With a supposed 6 month warranty on anything related to the washer, Mike came back out and did the same thing. Said to just keep trying it. Failed the next day. I tried calling him multiple times Friday and Saturday with no answer. Eventually I just drove to Norwood to get the faulty replacement part that he told me to install myself if it stopped working. So $89 for that bit of advice. Maybe he treats some people better than others but our experience was not a good one. With a family of four and a move upcoming it was not a good time for the washer to quit working and me to spend basically days working on a fix. read more

I had a dishwasher that wasn't washing my dishes correctly so I called this company in. They made a really big deal about how great they were on prices etc . "Best in the area". The man took a look and said that he could tell by the sound of the dishwasher that the pump wasn't working property and the replacement of the pump would be around $400 or $500. He said he would get a quote on it and call me back. He charged me $69 for the callout. I called on two occasions to touch base and find out what was happening with the part and he wouldn't return my calls. I then called Thermador to find out about the pump for my dishwasher and they said the cost for the part would be $194. Wow, over a 100% markup from convenient appliance. Thermador said that they would like to send an engineer out to me to take a look to make sure that it was indeed the pump that was the problem. My first thought was, "oh! here we go, somebody else trying to scam people out of their money by sending somebody out to me to tell me that my dishwasher does indeed need a new pump and charge me another $100 for the visit." I couldn't have been more wrong; I shouldn't have believed Convenient Appliance. The Thermador engineer arrived, took a look, asked me for a pair of tweezers and pulled out a big piece of paper and and food particles that were blocking the water pipe. Dishwasher fixed. He said that he wasn't going to charge me anything for the visit. He felt bad that somebody had been trying to either charge visit fees and disappear off the face of the earth or charge an extortionate amount for parts that don't need replacing. Manufacturers engineers get a bad rap, they aren't all bad, this Thermador engineer was fantastic and Convenient Appliance have just lost, what would have been, a very loyal and generous customer if they had been honest and looked after me. read more

I agree wholeheartedly with Sam B. We used Mike for many years & was always pleased with how quickly he would return calls & do the repair. This past October he came to repair our trash compactor. He said he fixed it & I paid him the $90 service call fee. Within 2 hours it was clear the problem was not fixed. I called him immediately as he supposedly warranties his work for a certain period of time (30 days?). He scheduled a return date & then cancelled saying he was sick. Didn't hear back from him so left several messages which were not returned for quit a while. When I did he asked for the model # & said he would just order the part & we would just pay for the part as we ready paid for labor. Once again didn't hear back from him. After repeat calls got him on phone & we scheduled the repair for the following week. I waited & he never showed. He never showed & didnt even have the courtesy to return my calls asking if he was coming as I was wasting the entire day waiting. We ended up having Grays Appliance come and do the repair correctly. Of course we had to pay twice & wasted 2 months being jerked around by Convenient Appliance. Stay Away! read more

I was first impressed with Michael. He told me he had to order a part and would call me in a couple days. It has been a month and a half and I have still not heard from him (after leaving him 2 messages). I would NOT recommend using Convenient Appliance- even though he told me "I pride myself on my service." Yeah...I don't believe that at all!!! read more

I've relied on Mike Chavez for 20 years and he has always come through. He has fixed just about every appliance in our house and his prices are always fair. He is almost always prompt in responding to calls, but occasionally drops the ball. I think he's a one-person operation and make allowances for that. We're all only human. read more

I call Mike Chaves whenever one of our appliances stops working. He has always returned my calls even at 9 pm on a Sunday night when I left him a message saying that I know its a weekend and i don't expect to hear from you until Monday. He has fixed things for us every time - sometimes he may need a specific part, but we have had terrific, efficient service from Mike for years. He doesn't overcharge and his advice has been excellent. My husband used to be a part time mechanic and knows a little about plumbing. He agrees that Mike is straight forward,trustworthy, dependable and reasonable. I have never once waited long for him to return my call. I wouldn't call anyone else! I've had a similar experience. He worked for us in the past and was prompt and effective. But recently, he took our money for a "deposit" on a part and never returned to do the work. He doesn't return calls and wont give us our money back. I wish I had read these reviews before calling him! Don't call him. read more

Mike Chaves is an honest and smart appliance repairman. He has worked for us for years because I can rely on him to give us an accurate assessment based on the ability for an appliance to be repairable. Mike turned down an opportunity to sell us a costly replacement part for our 30 year old Maytag washing machine and steered us to a top loading Speed Queen instead. He explained that the front loaders break down too easily. This was confirmed by the appliance store salesman who had no relationship with Mike or Convenient Appliance. I will always look to Mike for an intelligent decision concerning repair work - whether it is better to fix or replace. read more

My experience with Convenient Appliance has been the complete opposite of the previous reviewer. Michael has been repairing all of the appliances in my two-family house (and believe me, there are a lot of them) for at least the past ten years. I've always received a call back within an hour, and have been able to schedule an appointment either that day or the next. I would recommend him highly! read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!! Michael Chaves of Convenient Appliance Company is a thief! Stay away!!! He has taken advantage of my mother and, from the look of other reviews, many others as well. He returned her initial call immediately, came to look at the problem with the refrigerator, and took a check for $200.00 for a new ice maker. Well the part never came nor was the check returned despite the many calls to the business, home and cellphone. There were promises that you will "get it next week". More unreturned calls were made and still no response. A complaint letter from the BBB was sent to him and ignored. Call anyone else! read more

A local appliance store recommended this repair service to us. On the plus side Mike promptly both returned our initial call and came out to do the repair. His personality was pleasant and exuded sincerity in his interest to provide excellent customer service and follow up if there were any problems with the repair. Unfortunately, our appliance was not repaired initially, nor after a second try. As similarly detailed in other reviews. he scheduled multi follow up appointments then canceled or rescheduled them and at times left us waiting for days before we received a return phone call. It took a frustrating month and a half to finally get our appliance working. Mike did not charge us extra for his additional labor nor for an additional part that was needed for the third and final try ( as he explained, due to the delay in getting it done) which at least helped reduce our irritation with his inconsistent service. All in all though, we experienced a very "Inconvenient Appliance Repair." read more
