My husband brought our dog in today for grooming, and although it has been about six months since her last appointment, which is normal for us and she did look a mess. The staff called my husband stating they would need to shave her completely because she was "severely matted." This is not accurate. I personally combed her out about two weeks ago when I was considering grooming her myself. It appears they may not have brushed her before bathing and blow-drying, which can actually create mats if not done properly. They then showed my husband a video that did not demonstrate a need to shave her bald and told him that refusing the shave could result in injury, an emergency vet visit, or even animal control involvement if she "bit" someone. In the eight years we've used this groomer, we have never once been told that she bit anyone. My dog may fuss or growl when uncomfortable, but she has never bitten a person or another animal. It felt as though they were trying to pressure my husband into approving a full shave rather than taking the time to groom her correctly. This used to be a great place, and I'm extremely disappointed in how the situation was handled and how responsibility was shifted instead of acknowledging their own mistakes. I guarantee you when I get home I will be able to comb my dog out and properly shave her. It just takes time. We already pay $75 dollars even an extra charge to the $75 for extra time is understandable but to try and just shave the poor dog bald and then threaten us with the ER and animal control is just wild. The owner responded to this review elsewhere and it's extremely disappointing. There is a complete lack of accountability with this business and the owner straight up lies. My husband is not a liar and would never claim they threatened to call animal services if that were not true. Just because they did not want to take the extra time to properly groom my dog does not mean I expect them to treat an animal inhumanely. Suggesting otherwise is unreasonable. As paying customers, we have every right to bring up concerns when services we paid for are not completed properly. If nail trimming, sanitary trimming, and ear plucking are included in the service--and they were not done--then yes, I am absolutely allowed to say something. Each time we brought up minor issues in the past, we did so respectfully, they corrected them, and we moved on. We have never been rude. To now portray us as the problem for pointing out services that were missed or them just being LAZY is unacceptable. You are the business, the professional, and the expert. Grooming a dog properly and without causing harm should be the standard. We had no intention of returning regardless, but the unprofessional, defensive, and hostile response from the owner only further confirms that!! Do not go here because if they mess up they will not take accountability and they will lie!

I walked out of there feeling disappointed with that facility . I cancelled that reservation and now we were frantic because we didn't have alot of time before our cruise. I googled boarding facilities in the area and "Home Away from Home" popped up.. never heard of them but thats where we went!! the moment i opened the door to the facility.. i felt welcomed by Kathy !! We explained our situation in depth and without hesitation, they said yes.. whatever it is we can do it! If i tell you.. I legit started crying!! I asked Kathy before i left if i could hug her because she literally saved our vacation!! They took such great care of our babies we were able to enjoy our vacation. Kathy and the staff at Home Away from Home were so accommodating. I would highly recommend this facility for your boarding needs and i wouldn't hesitate to board our babies there again!! Now, all of a sudden, I am being told that "Chico has been biting"--yet no one ever mentioned these alleged previous incidents to me. If this had been an ongoing problem, why wasn't I informed after the first incident? A groomer previously cut off a year's worth of growth from my Goldendoodle's mullet without my permission. Although I received store credit, that could not replace his hair. Then Chico received a butchered haircut that did not resemble what I requested. When I picked up my dogs Friday, I specifically asked how they behaved. The gentleman only discussed my Goldendoodle and never mentioned that Chico had allegedly bitten Amy. No one contacted me when the incident supposedly happened. I only learned about it after calling Saturday to discuss Chico's haircut. During that call, I apologized directly to Amy. She initially apologized for not documenting the incident in Chico's notes but later claimed she had documented it. When I asked the owner to show me the notes, she refused. Those conflicting statements and her refusal to provide clarification made me seriously question whether the documentation existed. Despite the alleged bite, Amy still scheduled Chico for a trim to correct his haircut. However, when I arrived, the owner suddenly announced that Chico could not return because no one wanted to work with him. She also accused me of not being genuinely sorry, even though she was not part of Saturday's phone conversation and apparently did not realize that I had only learned about the incident during that call. If the bite was as serious as they later portrayed it, why wasn't I contacted immediately? Why was nothing said when I directly asked how my dogs behaved? Why was Chico still scheduled for another appointment? And if he had supposedly been biting "multiple times," why was I never told throughout all the years I brought him there? They acted as though I denied the bite, which I never did, and asked whether I wanted to see the video or pay Amy's hospital bill. I asked them to review the Friday pickup footage and Saturday's recorded phone call because those recordings would show that I apologized, never denied the incident, and was telling the truth. I feel the decision to refuse Chico only after I returned for his corrective trim was a reaction to my complaints and the store credit they previously issued. No one there seemed able to handle direct communication or accept accountability for their grooming mistakes. Instead, they became defensive, contradicted themselves, and attacked my character. I understand refusing service because of a legitimate safety concern. What I do not accept is withholding information, giving conflicting accounts, refusing to show the alleged notes, scheduling a corrective appointment, and then treating a longtime customer disrespectfully for asking them to rectify their mistakes. Unfortunately, I would love to recommend but after my last 2 experiences I'd warn against it.
