I've tried plenty of other boarding/daycare facilities since I moved to John's Island in 2017 because Barker Lounge is a bit far for daycare. I'm here for good now - my dog is happy, she runs in the door, and she comes home tired. Barker Lounge doesn't nickel and dime their clients like some of their competitors, and the dogs get a day's worth of play instead of an hour here and there. They are also really serious about matching dogs to the right playgroup, and when I'm gone for a week or more I get a creative update that clearly relates to my dog's personality. Three years later and they still get a solid five stars from me- I'd give them more if I could! Lola absolutely LOVES going there. Her little wiggle butt gets so excited when we pull up. She basically forgets I'm there and goes straight to Heidi, Kevin or any of the other absolutely wonderful staff. When I pick her up, she is happy and completely worn out. We use The Barker Lounge for boarding. We have had zero issues and know they take good care of her. I like that they've gotten more involved in social media (FB and IG) and post a lot of videos and pictures of the dogs throughout the day. Our pup, Luna, has been going to the Barker Lounge for over a year. She loves it so much and we make a game of going to "Barker" or "daycare". We tell her where we're going the night before and she literally can't wait! Once she arrives, she wants nothing to do with mom and can't wait til she's with her friends. We love to check out their Instagram to see if LuLu has made an appearance. She gets lots of love and attention from everyone there. They've even taught her certain commands which shows just how much they do. Luna has made lots of friends and we love to hear who she's hung out with that day. She also gets the Barker Lounge "hangover" where she is so worn out she can't even keep her eyes open on the ride home. She sleeps well that night! The owners, Heidi and Kevin, are great and Heidi remembers the smallest details and every dog's name. She really cares about the pups. Luna has also been boarded several times and loves her that too. Each pup has their own open-air "kennel" (indoor) with a see-through plexiglass door so they can see other pups. One of my favorite things they have done was to have a Christmas photo shoot which produced the cutest pics ever! I hope they continue to do that tradition. This location is very convenient for us since it is located on Hwy 17 in the south side of West Ashley. Dog Lovers this is the spot for Doggie Daycare, Boarding, and Grooming!! Our 2 boys love Heidi and her Staff, they are incredible!! We never have a problem Boarding here make sure you call ahead because they book up quickly on Holidays and I would expect it with the great care they give to the dogs! Our lil Tater girl had a great experience at Barker Lounge. Before she stayed there, she had a trial day to make sure she was comfortable and got along with the other puppies. When we picked her up from the trial day, the owner had notes on how she did and we got a full tour of the facilities. We also got a breakdown of her schedule for the day, which was comprised of her playing inside, outside, nap time, food time, more play time, then bed time! The owner was very friendly and you could tell she deeply cares about every puppy in their facility. After the tour and her trial day, I was confident Tater would have a great time! We went on vacation for four nights and we received an email update on the second day, which was very nice. They also posted a picture of Tater on their Instagram, and it was great to see her so happy! When we picked her up, she was a happy and healthy girl and that's all I needed to see! It was nice being on vacation and knowing exactly what Tater was doing while we were gone. Will definitely use them again the next time we go out of town! read more

I love this place, but more importantly, my dog loves this place. I've used them about twice weekly for daycare for the past 10 months, and have done occasional boarding and nail trimming. My dog loves other dogs but is extremely anxious around humans, and daycare has provided an amazing outlet for him to socialize and play. He always comes home exhausted! It's clear that Heidi and Kevin, who run this location, love dogs and are passionate about maintaining a clean environment. The facilities are great - both indoor and outdoor play space, as well as great sized kennels for nap time. For daycare, all the dogs have a midday nap time in the kennel and are provided a kong with 2 tsp of peanut butter while soft jazz music plays. Talk about luxury! Booking daycare/boarding is super easy (in person, online, or via phone). I'm currently pregnant, and Heidi and Kevin have said they will accommodate whenever we need to drop our dog off when I go into labor. I really appreciate how they go out of their way! read more

I had used Barker Lounge for two-day care days before placing my 2 dogs here for a 6 day board. While on my way home on the 6th day the manager contacted me that one of my dogs had a bite on her front leg, and that it wasn't bad, didn't need immediate attention, and they had wrapped her and suggested she be seen by a vet. I was not upset, I know that dogs can be dogs, and things happen. The following day when I took my dog to the vet (after a rough night at home with the dog crying most of the night), they showed me that BOTH front legs had multiple wounds, the side of her face was open and wounded, it was hard to see through her long thick fur. She was shaved on both legs and face and her wounds/bites were treated. She was given antibiotics and pain meds. She needed to be in her cone for almost two weeks. I was in touch with Heidi regarding the severity of the bites and the cost - which came to more than $600, not mention the boarding fees. I received an email from Heidi which said: "I believe in good customer service, as well as proper business decisions.  Veterinarian choices, suggestions and chosen treatments are subjective and vary greatly." I am not a vet, nor is Heidi or anyone on staff, and to suggest that there was any subjectivity in the dogs treatment is ridiculous. Barker Lounge "refunded" $265 to me. I will not be trusting these folks with my animals again. Their apologies were less than adequate in the face of the dog's pain and suffering, they did not seem to understand that they may need to reassess their care methods and despite their statement about good customer service they did not really take responsibility for what happened. read more

I think I've barked up the right tree. I've been on a quest to find a safe, clean doggie daycare that offers boarding services also. Who knew this would prove to be a serious challenge in the Holy City. Seriously, you'd be shocked by the number of doggie daycares that showcase lovely resort like websites, but in person you either a) need to dawn a biohazard suit or oxygen mask upon entering the facility, or b) you need a top secret security clearance ‍ and a weeks notice before touring where your pet will actually be housed; and/or c) the accommodations aka "kennels" looks like you've entered a war zone. Trust me, puppy mills and prisoners in 3rd world countries have better accommodations than these dogs. People pls demand to see exactly where your dog is sleeping. I'm still shook. Any-who, back to this review... I haven't used any of the services here yet, but the tour was impressive and the BEST overall facility I've seen thus far! 1. The entire facility is as clean as the lobby. A FIRST, let me tell you! 2. They accommodated my drop-in visit and INVITED me to tour the entire place on the spot. Nothing to see here folks... just happy dogs playing. 3. Indoor and outdoor play yards - nice for us owners of bulldogs bc they overheat easily. 4. Air filtration system helps with doggie cooties and that to me is a plus. 5. They allow you to bring your pet's personal bed, toy or your shirt which helps reduce your pet's stress while in a different environment. A lot of places won't allow that. The only thing I wish they offered were satellite cameras to view your dog from time to time. They haven't approved my bullie yet, but I'll update my review after she's been there. read more

We just picked our sweet boy up yesterday after being boarded for 9 days. I was called only Saturday evening (the night before he was to be picked up) and was told he may have kennel cough and that they separated him from the rest of the dogs. When I arrived I was told he ate good and besides the mucus in his nose and a slight cough, he had been acting just fine. He was excited to see me, but once we were in the truck I immediately knew something was wrong. He laid there the whole ride home, hardly moving. Once home I noticed he seemed much thinner and all he did was sleep all day, wouldn't eat or drink. I got him into his vet early Monday morning and was told he had a terrible infection, fever and had lost 7 pounds. He was put on strong antibiotics for 10 days and they sent us home with wet food because they were worried about the weight loss and dehydration. That certainly doesn't sound like a dog that was acting fine and eating well!! I am beyond angry with the owners of The Barker Lounge and the lack of care they showed our poor puppy. If you care at all about your animals, TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE!! These pictures were taken the morning I picked him up. This is not the healthy dog we left in their care!! read more

I had taken my golden doodle here twice for grooming. I was in the process of finding a new groomer since I couldn't stomach the $115 cost for grooming, but my dog needed a cut, so I made an appt with the Barker Lounge. I wish I had just waited. When I dropped her off, the groomer was incredibly condescending, making me feel like a terrible dog mom, reprimanding me on how frequently my dog should be cut/brushed/"blown out" (in the five years I've had my dog, never has a groomer told me to blow dry her, much less weekly as this groomer said). She then proceeded to completely shave my dog because she was "too matted" when in actuality, I don't think she had the patience or skill to work the mats so she took the easy way out. Yes, my dog had some bad mats, but she has had much worse and every other groomer has been able to work through them. I really wanted to like this place due to the convenient location and hours, but after the way the groomer made me feel and the outrageous price, I won't be returning. read more

My experience with the barker lounge was not a good one. I would not recommend it to anyone. I called to make an appointment and it was a two week wait. I continued to get an appointment elsewhere. In the meanwhile my daughter and I both were in an accident. Both injured and had several appointments to make and attend. The day before my dogs appointment I emailed stating we would have to cancel. The morning of the appointment I was called by their office and told I was marked a do not book ever again because I canceled my appointment the day before. I feel that was very ugly and would never want to do business with such a place. You guy are now marked a place I would never recommend nor bring the loves of my life to be groomed. read more

My nervous dog (when left with friends) completely loves the staff and always comes back happy and healthy, leaving me with ease of mind. I highly recommend them to anyone, but especially to those who have anxious animals that need a bit of extra love to feel comfortable. Take a tour and the owners will answer all questions, show you their dog playtime system, and their amazingly clean facility, with indoor and outdoor play areas. Took my 6 month old golden doodle puppy here for her first grooming and I could not have hated it more!! I don't think the groomer listened to anything I had to say about what I wanted and now my poor puppy looks awful! The body and legs are okay (just very short!!) but her face and tail look awful!! I asked for her to just trim up the face hair not too shaped, and they shaved her nose and did a VERY shape cut! I was obviously upset and unhappy when I picked her up and they did not offer to try and fix it or what I didn't like. My puppy also got very sick after I brought her home, she threw up several times. I called to see what treats they gave her and they said they would follow up the next day, nothing. Needless to say we won't be back, and I would NOT recommend them for grooming!! There is a reason you can get in quick here. Wait the month to get in at a good groomer, or do it yourself and at least save the $80!!! read more

I have to show this fantastic place some love! We've brought our boxer mix Dougal here multiple times, and I continue to be impressed each time. The doggy play area is spacious and clean, they are super transparent with everything and even gave us a tour to quell my anxiety the first time we left our dog here :). We moved to Charleston from DC and were so nervous about where to bring our dog, and Barker Lounge has totally put us at ease. The doggy suites here are so much nicer than the standard old crates you see jammed in one room at other facilities. I put a special leash on Dougal that he only gets when we go to Barker Lounge, and now when I go to grab it he just goes crazy and does his wiggle happy dance! What impressed me the most is how responsive Barker Lounge was during Dougal's stays, about how he was doing. This was really important to me. I've also received report cards of who he's played with, how he ate during his stay, etc.! In short, not all Dog day care facilities are created equal, and this is the only one in Charleston that I choose to bring my furbaby to time and time again! read more

We are thrilled to have found The Barker Lounge on Savannah Hwy. for our 2 yr. old Golden Retriever, Buddy. Not only is it the BEST facility we've used for doggy daycare, boarding & grooming, it is a total hit with him! Whenever we pull into the facility, he is so excited that he wants to jump out of the car window. This is the 1st place that we've experienced total satifaction with their services. Heidi and her staff clearly love the dogs and obviously make sure it's a first class operation. My husband and I can finally plan a vacation this year that we won't cut short due to worrying about Buddy...WooHOO! The only downside is that he seems depressed on days that he doesn't get to go play with his friends. I am extremely satisfied with the service that my dog (Blue) and I have received so far from The Barker Lounge. From the initial response that I received via my Yelp quote request, to the free day of daycare to get to know Blue (the meet n greet), the quality of care and service has been just what I was looking for. As an owner of a pit bull, it is hard sometimes to find a care facility that does not prejudge him based on breed alone. Luckily, Blue is extremely friendly and loveable, and the other dogs agreed when he arrived. He had such a fun day with his first meet n greet. He was extremely tired by the end of the day when I picked him up, and once he realized that we were going home, he curled up in "his spot" and slept most of the evening and night. We're dropping him off again Saturday night for a one-nighter, as we'll be taking a vacation soon, and I want to see how he'll do in that scenario. Heidi and her husband are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the dogs and their social behaviors. I was given a tour of the facility and am very comfortable with leaving Blue there for short or long term stays. I highly recommend The Barker Lounge and will share my experiences with anyone who is looking for great service for their furry family member. read more

This gets 1 star bc I had to give it something. I took my 10 year old Golden Doodle here for a groom because the other places I have gone in the past don't have groomers right now. This was a nightmare. We asked for a normal golden doodle groom and knew she had some mats which is normal for her and asked to have the mats taken out but leave as much hair as possible. We expected her coat to be taken down. We picked her up and they shaved her whole body so low that we could see her PINK skin. They really irritated her skin. I feel so bad for her. They even shaved her face. My daughter called me bawling on her way home. They left some kind of ridiculous looking tail and a tiny poof of hair on top of her head (like you would see on a poodle) but no hair on her ears either which have been bleeding. On top of all if this they nicked her on other places on her body and has been bleeding in areas for 3 Days. I took her back to show them what they did and the owner told me the nicks were not from the Groom and all he could say was he was sorry with a big fat chew in his mouth and that they had enough business he didn't care what I thought. To add fuel to the fire they charged us $150. I have never in the 10 years of grooming my dog paid close to that. Never even over $100. Yes, the price was bad but what really bad was they hurt my dog. She was shaking so bad when we walked in for me to show them. Don't go here if you want a compassionate groomer. read more

This has been my first experience with "camp" for my piti. She needed more playtime and excercise during work time for me. Marley had never spent the night away from family in 4 years. She spent a week at Barker Lounge while I was in Denver. Unforseen circumstances delayed my return by 3 days. I was assured that they could deal with the change which they graciously did. This is possibly my Dog's fave doggie daycare/ boarder he has ever been too. Lets put it this way, its the only place he has ever ran in to and showed no signs of separation anxiety from me! The place is extremely well set-up, the staff have a clear methodology in place and are obviously well-trained. The fact the building also smells clean and not of wet-dog is also as surprising as it is amazing! My Dog has had multiple days there and now &has spent 2 maybe 3 nights overnight, which he has never done anywhere and that still doesn't stop him running in the next time I take him in. I give Barker Lounge 4 stars for our experience so far - the only reason its not 5; I would like a little review of his stay, especially after an overnight. Its important to me I hear how he did and what they etc etc. This isn't so important after a basic daycare, but overnight I think a little review would go a long way. Also, maybe a photo or 2 would be a great thing to receive, or even just a quick post on insta-stories before bed would be nice. Just some suggestions which I think would take Barker Lounge to a whole new level of service in this market. 3/2/19 2nd review for the Barker Lounge here after both my dogs spent an overnight together for the first time. Again, overall, it seems like it was a hugely successful stay with both dogs having fun. Things to improve: * we were told it was not necessary to bring bedding for our dogs as they would take care of it. The reality is, both my dogs were provided a towel to sleep on, on-top of a hard concrete surface. Next time we will be taking their beds so they have some comfort * again, for dogs that stay overnight, a photo or at least and update on their day/ dinner/ lights out would be great and separate them from the competition in the market. They really should start using social media more. The use of insta-stories would be useful here. * finally, as with our previous stays, at pick-up we just asked for a little review on their stay and were told "fine, no issues"... but for over $100 for a 24+ hour stay Id like a little more than that. They have competitors that provide mini-report cards which is cool. I just got the sense that they got frustrated when I simply asked "how was their stay". read more

She was able to get me in the next day, answered all my questions, and made my dog feel so relaxed. She never takes treats from people in new places!! So as a new mommy, I am very cautious about taking care of my furry child. Because of that, I have only ever bathed Molly myself. But with a busy work schedule and her getting too big and strong, I knew I had to call in the pros. After reading lots of reviews on groomers in Charleston, I went with the Barker Lounge...and I'm so glad I did! From the initial phone call inquiry to the treat (or two) at the end of the appointment, Heidi was so genuine and helpful! You can definitely tell she knows what she is talking about and cares. My Molly is so soft and her coat is shining - not to mention the eucalyptus oils they used make me want to use her as a pillow tonight. I'm so happy to have found a spa for my furry one :) !
