When first started it was 8 UCLA students. Four decades later, it is 50 committed actors. You simply must go. It is a not for profit and the actors work for nothing. I recently saw the Charles Busch in his classic camp "Die Mommy Die," and Jonathan Cake and Sarah Drew in "Pressure," both superb. The shows are not staged plays, but readings, with the actors at microphones, recording audio for later broadcasts. Because the actors and direction are always so fine, it's an entertaining show. LATW also hosts NTLive, the National Theater of London's recorded plays. Nobody does theater better than the National Theater, and nobody makes videos of plays better, either. The results are that you can literally see the best theater in the world, right at the UCLA James Bridges theater for around $25. Recently saw Fleabag (brilliant), and the Lehman Trilogy (one of the best plays you'll ever see). Just buy your tickets early as they sell out! LATW is a fantastic resource for theater lovers in LA!

This queer owned and queer focused safe space for visual, performing and creative arts has been doing the work for over 36 years in the city of Santa Monica, Los Angeles. California. From live theater to an great art gallery, lobby, multiple restrooms, a fair amount of parking, great acoustics, lighting and the list goes on. The staff here is wonderful though I will say with larger events such as the one I attended with friends to support friends they did run out and low of certain beverages and snacks, which are a little more than good expect, but well worth supporting this small business with an incredible space. Attending the Los Angeles Leather Pride Contest where a Mr. LA Leather 2026 was crowned was a true gift. Highly recommend this venue and space for a variety of your creative needs, including screenings, art shows, etc. Stellar outdoor open patio space as well as various buildings. Perfect lighting, inside and out. They've definitely put tlc into this space over the years.

For over a week. When we checked in for the show at The Blue Door, we expressed this to the 2 women running the event and they were shocked and apologized and said they would forward the concern. Presumably they worked for the event, not for The Blue Door. We chose seats at the end of the second row with no seats in front of us so we had a clear view of the stage. Minutes before showtime, a man added loose chairs in front of us and said, "We may have latecomers." These chairs are taller than the theater seats, so if someone sits there, they are a head taller than if they sat in the theater seats, meaning your view of the stage is significantly obscured. Sure enough, 2 people who were sitting in theater seats switched to the chairs right in front of us, blocking our view for the entire show. If you have to add chairs to accommodate more people, find chairs that are the same height as your theater seats. Show that you actually care about the audience experience. And when hosting a live show, why are you allowing latecomers? It's distracting. 3 people entered the theater during the performance and it was indeed distracting when 2 of them searched for seats. This is all very basic stuff that a venue for live shows should have a handle on. Do better.

Now this is one review that's been sitting in my back burner for years, but since I'm still in…read morerecovery from their 10th birthday show, which was held last night, it's time I finally whip this out. Having spent some years in the Rocky Horror community, I've always found Hedwig refreshing. In the long run, it's a better movie -- great music, a deeper story, and more colorful characters -- and I've loved it for years. Yep, I'm a Hed Head. I first saw Rainbow Carnage nearly a decade ago, when Midnight Insanity, the Rocky Horror group I was associated with, still had their own Hedwig shadow cast, the Crypto Homo Rockers (and sadly CHR disbanded before I got the chance to see a show). They were doing a Kick Some Karaoke Ass theme night, with cast and audience members getting up to sing before the show. Even back then, I'd found Rainbow Carnage to be exciting, doing their film justice. Unlike Rocky, where call-outs are usually made putting down the characters, props, set pieces, and songs in the movie, Rainbow Carnage reiterates before their performances, "We love our movie, and please respect it." That's not to say that people still don't yell out their own jokes during the show and get a laugh from the crowd (I giggled like an idiot at the end when someone shouted, "Gentlemen, please, it's after Labor Day." Well, you had to be there). It's thoroughly encouraged that you sing along with the movie, as well. Also unlike the majority of Rocky shadow casts, due to the frequent costume changes in Hedwig, Rainbow Carnage uses multiple actors to play the roles. So you could see one person play Hedwig during "Tear Me Down," a different person as Hedwig for "Origin of Love," and then the first actor again for "Sugar Daddy." For the record, the girl whom I always considered a kick-ass Yitzhak some years back is now a bad-ass Hedwig. She's got the blocking down perfectly. As others have mentioned it is an interactive show. During the scene between Tommy Gnosis and Hedwig in her trailer, cast members drape a clothes line over the audience with slips, stockings, and shirts sliding across their faces like Hedwig and Tommy slipping through a labyrinth of laundry. During "Sugar Daddy," they toss out baggies of Gummi Bears, and YES, someone DOES get a "carwash, ladies and gentlemen!" Unlike Rocky they won't be squirting water at you during any scene (not that any scene really calls for it), so you can rest easy there. I just wish Rainbow Carnage held more shows throughout the year. I remember when they went down to performing quarterly and I was pretty bummed. Well, here's to another 10 years for the longest running Hedwig cast in the world!

Now they're only doing the shadowcast 2 times a year; January and July…read more I went last Friday and fortunately, they started a little sooner than usual though they kept us in line past midnight. Sigh. At least the pre-show entertainment was fairly good this time. The shadowcast this time seemed to feature more females and they actually got a black guy for the Sargent Luther Robinson role! They added a scene they never shadowcasted before which made me happy. Overall, I had another great time.
