From the moment we arrived, we were shown nothing but kindness and hospitality from the operators Tara and Mike. The welcoming environment of this place extends into every nook and cranny. Guests can access free microwave popcorn, sodas, ice, and coffee, and can access the main lodge at anytime and sit on the couches or read in the library area. There is wifi accessible and our room came with a tv that included access to a variety of apps, including Netflix. We were fortunate enough to bunk in a family suite and it is perfectly suited for a group of people that are looking for a home-away-from-home feel. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and open-concept kitchen and living area, it really felt like we had our own apartment here. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with travel-sized toiletries and condiments, and there are plenty of dishes and cookware to utilize. There would be no need to worry about cooking in the morning, however, because breakfast is prepared and delicious! Every morning was plenty to fill me up for hours, and the variety and quality of food was really exceptional. It is served at a communal table, so everyone at the lodge eats together. This turned out to be the most pleasant surprise, as we began establishing friendships and connections with other people. Between the friendly staff, the beautiful location, and the impressive breakfast, Hisega Lodge went far and above my expectations. The service is all order at the bar and then they'll bring the food to you from the disconnected kitchen. I ordered the Orange Chicken Bowl and my husband got their Chipped Beef Special. It was out to our table in about 10 minutes, and everything was fresh and piping hot! The orange chicken could've been mistaken for the packages they sell at Trader Joe's or Costco (and I mean that in the BEST sense - I LOVE those brands of orange chicken!), but the broccoli was obviously fresh and still had a nice crisp to it while being just the right amount of tender. The serving sizes are huge and we weren't able to finish both meals. There are pool tables inside that are extraordinarily expensive, so we only played about two games. There was extremely loud live music we weren't expecting the second night, so we sat outside on the patio to try and get a way from the volume, but we still returned for the ambience and the quick service.

After checking into my room, I grabbed a beer and went down to the sportsbook to make a bet. I took a seat to relax for a minute and put my beer down on the table in front of me. The bartender came over and asked if I wanted to order anything. I told him no. He then picked my beer up and said "We don't serve this beer here. You can't have outside beverages." He then threw the beer in the trash, said "There you go" and left. I was stunned. I couldn't believe that he did that. The proper way would have been, Sir, we don't allow outside beverages. I'd be happy to get you a beer that we serve. Had I have been this employees supervisor and had seen the way he treated a customer, I would have pulled him aside and immediately reprimanded him. This may be the rough and tumble town of Deadwood, but those were the old days. Surly bartenders are no longer the norm. Tourism keeps the town alive. This AL Swearengen wanna-be has singlehandedly succeeded in ruining my stay, and perhaps to the point where I won't stay at this Holiday Inn again. It's my suggestion, that if you stay here, think twice before you patronize the sportsbook bar. You may inadvertently tip someone who couldn't care less about you. Quick Tip: Wear your walking shoes. I get the hotel is only 2 floors, but if you're on the second floor and you have a lot of luggage, it's a bit of a pain. Yes, there's an elevator, but it almost always full of wet families. Our room faced the pool and that was a nightmare. Between the track racing down the hall that faced the pool and the noise, just terrible. Rooms are not at all soundproof. Toilets were small and low to the floor, not ideal if you're over 6 feet tall. At least got our squats in! Bed was hard and uncomfortable. No complimentary breakfast and the onsite restaurant just not great. Gets a star back because staff were friendly.
