Walking around in Eastern Market with my brother and as we were walking pass, the bartenders began waving and greeting us. It was not our intention to stop but because they were so pleasant we popped in. Very nice atmosphere and very welcoming. They brew in house and you can see the tanks lined up in the back of the bar. Now, here's the thing.... I'm not a beer drinker. BUT not scared to try different things. The bartenders offered us free samples of the beers on tap. Out of the three that I tried, my fav was the Dunkel and my leaf fav was the Witches hat. The witches hat has a coffee smell and aftertaste to it which I couldn't get with and the porter reminded me of soy sauce. But hey, to each it's own. Stop in and have a good time! They have live bands that perform on a regular basis! During the weekend is the best time to go if you want to be among the crowd!

I love this place. The beer is pretty good, lots to choose from. The inside is super cool, spacious, and open. You can see where they brew the beer in the back. There is plenty of seating and it is dog friendly. There is also outdoor seating and a huge garage door that opens in the summer. The staff was very friendly and my huge beer was around $7. There are also fridges of tons of beer to take home. There is a pretty big TV to watch sports games on too. There are live music events sometimes as well. I am not sure if they serve food but I don't think so.

German inspired brewery in Eastern Market with delicious in house brewed beer. Tucked away from the main Eastern Market thoroughfare, this is the place to go for quality craft beer and a laid back atmosphere. The service has always been fantastic when I've been there, and the owner/operator is often behind the bar. This hidden gem is a must for anyone visiting Eastern Market.

What a fun find during a trip through the Eastern Market! The house beer is great, and they have a variety of other beers on tap, as well as fully stocked fridges of beer that you can buy and drink inside. The bartender was friendly and gave us some recommendations for nearby restaurants that we could get food and bring it back to eat. All COVID restrictions were followed, and we felt safe while we were there.

Stopped by late last weekend. The band was way too loud. Couldn't even talk to each other.

The music hits, the crowd is always lively, and it just feels like summer no matter what time of year it is. Whether you're stopping by before hitting another spot or making it your main destination for the night, The Skip always delivers. Now let's talk drinks -- because they do not play around. The Long Islands are ON POINT. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Not watered down, not overly sweet -- just right. You definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, and they're dangerously easy to sip. I love the overall vibe here. It's social, upbeat, and perfect for hanging with friends. If you want good music, great drinks, and a guaranteed good time, The Skip should absolutely be on your list. We made reservations in a weekend but it wasn't necessary at 5. What I didn't know what this theme is a pop up much like Miracle Bar around Christmas. The mugs are not really made for The Skip and can be found online for less. Most importantly is the drinks are not good. They're not spirit forward, they're full of mixers. Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. Service is attentive and friendly. Not in a rush to return.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

This is an update to my previous review of HopCat Detroit…read more I still love the food and the lively, energetic ambiance here. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location. Since then, I've had better experiences with staff, and the food and overall energy of the place continue to shine. Despite that one odd incident, I still highly recommend HopCat for the atmosphere, creative menu, and fresh food. I'll continue coming back and will share more updates (and pics) along the way.

The beer list online (which I reviewed to prepare myself) was not entirely accurate. Their beer list on the wall didn't really explain what anything was so for people, such as myself, from outside the area and unfamiliar with the local breweries it was a challenge.
