Found this place by chance and it's off the beaten path. First of all. I knew nothing about this bar but apparently I know more than ever now. It's out of the way but trust me it's so worth it. The drinks are on point and Heather is a GEM. I've been here a few times and every single time I'm glad I came. If your looking for a place you can unwind and relax with a stiff drink. This. Is. How cool is that? The draft beer is ice cold... so I'm a huge fan!!! Check in to Yelp or Facebook... and get a FREE drink!

A promising bar that's been featured on Bar Rescue, it falls very short of the expectations. The DJ. Let's start here. All he plays is hip-hop from the early 2000s. He tries to mix and cross fade but he can't match the beat so every time he does, it's an absolute train wreck. The bar has a sign that says "best pizza in town" so I thought I'd order something to eat. The only have frozen Walmart pizza, and a countertop pizza oven. And all the had was a margarita pizza. So I ordered dominoes and had it delivered. I be honest, they don't need a DJ at all. They have a TouchTunes mounted on the wall and would do better running that on WiFi so customers could pay to play music, allowing the bar tender to control the volume. . It's a dimly lit bar, and he has the most obnoxious lights flashing, and two speakers on stands. The bar staff is extremely pleasant and very kind to the customers. The atmosphere is a mix of older/senior adult Hispanic couples, and obnoxiously young army personnel ( mostly officers here for BOLC at Ft Sam). People are extremely loud trying to talk over the music. It's very hard to communicate even across the bar at the pool tables. There is a variety of bar games: pool, shuffle board, darts, giant connect 4.

This local bar is located just outside Fort Sam Houston off Harry Wurzbach @ Burr Road. Most might consider this a "dive" bar, but I'd say a friendly, local spot. The beer is always cold and Shelby is the go-to bartender. She may not always remember your name, but she sure remembers your face. This is definitely a spot you will find regulars. There are games such as pool, trivia and darts and also a jukebox. There is a sign outside the bar that reads "best pizza in town" and while opinions may vary, this dang pizza is good! That is all the food they have, but just wait and the tamale lady will come in and these tamales are delicious! Don't bother. I've been ignored so many times by a night time bartender. And after being there a few times I have already been felt unwelcome by ex employees. I was told that the owner no longer even lives in state and is looking to sell. Up until today I was trying to get a friend from Houston to look into the place. Not going to happen now. Like I said if you are new to town don't bother. read more

We saw the episode of Bar Rescue that featured this bar and thought 'why not check it out'. It's your typical neighborhood dive bar. The bartender was friendly and the service was good. It's dark and not well lit inside and they took out the draft system that was put in during the show. They did keep the theme and decor, as well as the pizza oven. It's right across from Fort Sam Houston and their golf course. I guess we expected more after seeing the show. read more

You know, it is rare to find somewhere I want to revisit however, I have frequently returned to the Base Line these past few weeks. The reason being is your bartenders, in particular Shelby. Shelby is the epitome of excellence. She is professional, friendly, and a sincere desire to take care of her customers. I only hope when I start my business, I will be so fortunate to find a young professional as Shelby. Thanks for bringing Shelby into my space, she is the reason for my satisfaction and comfort at the Baseline. Kudos read more

Came in to see how the bar had improved from the show, I wasn't impressed. Immediate smell of mildew. I've never heard the word Fu** more times used in a sentence in five minutes from the... I assume bartenders/owner but wasn't sure. Talk about pool party orgies and going down on each other's necks, backs.. and other areas of the body. Then came some racist midget jokes and the beer was flat and only locals who go there constantly are checked on all the time. read more

Tried stopping in for last call at 1am with 6 people after work. Bartender and door guy looked out to see us parking in a big white work van and then went back inside. When we walked in the bartender told us she was closed up for the night. An entire hour before closing time! Mind you, this was the second bar we had tried to stop at. San Antonio doesn't seem to know how to party, I guess. read more

I love this bar! The recovery room girls are the best and the drinks are on fire. Have spent a shit ton of nights here and can't even begin to explain how much fun I have had. If you are looking for a chill bar with great people, Give this place a try. You will be treated right and will want to come back every weekend. Will be forever my favorite bar in San Antonio. We have been coming to the Base Line for years now--long enough to see it's evolution from the "Recovery Room" dive bar into the amazing (still pleasantly dive-y) destination it has become today. There is a relatively new staff (Karen is amazing!!) that treads the nice border between friendly and respectfully detached. This is for sure our place, and we're looking forward to many happy years ending our nights here. read more

I've been coming to this hidden gem for a while now, can't say enough good things about it. Bartenders are super friendly, they know their drinks and will remember your order and have it on the bar waiting for you before you even sit down. $0.50 for the pool tables, dart boards, and live music here and there. My only "complaint" about the place is that there's a weird smell outside every now and then on the back patio. Totally not the fault of the bar at all, it's the apt complex behind it. Always have so much fun when we're there. read more

I have worked as a bartender with over 15 years of experience. I have always wanted to open a bar so when the opportunity came, I DID IT! Enter The Base Line, formerly known as The Recovery Room and feel the vibe! I poured my blood, sweat and tears into this establishment! I enjoy meeting many people from different walks of life and this is the perfect place to do this! My family, my staff and myself are excited to invite you to pull up a seat and join us soon!

You know the night before a holiday urge to go get a drink in your hometown feel? I know it and I…read morewas super excited to see Slow Ride come up as an option for me and my sister to pop in and catch up over some drinks. Parking along the street is free (along the fence line of Sam Houston) and was not an issue even for a holiday. There is a paid parking lot that is secure and available too so note that if ever you have an issue finding a good spot. Walking into Slow Ride is like walking into your tio's (uncle) or a grandpa's cool, 70's/80;s vibey, and home-y bar. This is the kind of spot where every picture you take of yourself, or your friends, will look like you took it in the 80's! This is not a bad thing either. Seriously. It IS A VIBE here! Cushy seats at the bar was my favorite spot to hang out while we had some cold beers and a shot to go alongside it too. They have beer and shot combos here around $8. You get plenty of choices on beer and liquor of choice. I opted for a tallboy Lonestar and a small shot of the Mexican Candy. My sister got a Live Oak Hefe in a can (she likes Blue Moon so this was the closest thing to it and she liked it!) and later a Shiner in a bottle. I also decided to close out with a daiquiri that was super delicious and offered in nice glassware. Patio out in the back is spacious and a great spot to hang out with a group of friends. The back space is taken care of and has a modern look to it out there. I can see it being a nice vibe outside on a pretty day too. Jukebox is legit! All great music selections from all genres on CDs and pretty cheap too to play 5-8 songs. The artwork around here is worth a look around too. I love all the unique Garfield toys surrounding the bar area too. All of the back bar is so great with the wooden shelving and lighting too. You can see many honorable nods to those who currently or have served. It's a great thing to see especially so close to Sam Houston. One thing I have a pet peeve on is any service bar who has to keep my card on file. I am the worst person who won't remember so I have to be extra careful when bars keep my card. I usually walk and don't mind paying the 20+% tab walk fee but I do want my card back so I have to get everyone who is with me to remind me to go get it. That's why I am giving it 4 stars. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and bringing some more family and friends, though. This spot is so nostalgic and their social is super active and will promote DJs and sets happening that week and into the weekend. Go check them out and play some pool. Basically a bicycle theme microbrewery that has a fantastic lay out and such inviting space with comfy couches and other seating. The vibes are all Breaking Away (some of a certain age will remember this 70s movie). Had a flight + 2 full pours. All their beers are solid and it was hard to find which full pours I was going to have. Their Marzen was definitely the winner both times. If you can, try it before it runs out as it's only being offered for Oktoberfest. The bar keep was super cool, attentive and definitely added to the vibe.

This is my FAVORITE home away from home!! Heather is awesome! Everyone is super friendly, the bartenders are great & fast to get drinks, most know your drink order, when you walk through the door! They have amazing drink specials, with snacks most nights!! Saturday is Kareoke, Sunday is funday, with a food bar of variety!! They do monthly BDay specials!! This is my new favorite bar! Heather is so awesome and she takes care of you. She maintains her bar very well and the drinks taste amazing. Pool tables, darts and a beer pong table is all the fun that you need. This will be my regular bar for now on. This place rocks! read more
