So it has been a few years and it seems things have changed for the better and I need to update my review. Stopped by before the parade and this time they exceeded my expectations. Service was good considering how busy it got. Bathrooms were relatively clean. Drinks were well made and they had a good selection of beer on tap. I've lived here for six years. Great drinks, wonderful bartender, I was seeing rainbows.. gave me the best of the finest over and over at a good price. The "wave to no one troll game" from the bartender was priceless. Change your music to modern edm/hiphop/ vibezzzzzz and I'll be there every weekend. Over the years I've been to The Beacon a handful of times and each time I'm not that impressed. It's loud, the mixed drinks are inconsistent, full of Bros or barely legals. As far as food goes, I don't remember there any being available as implied in other reviews, but may have just missed it. What it has going for it, their Guinness on tap seems extra good for some reason; I'm guessing I was just really thirst. Another pro, they have shuffleboard! This automatically gets them another star. Even though the scene is definitely not my crowd, I'd venture here for a quick beer stop and game of shuffleboard before heading to the next bar. read more

Sooooo was literally just in here. Pros: great location. Cons: agree totally with the "Bro Club" someone must not worry about paying the bills bc customer service is not on the menu. Hope you like birds bc apparently the Macaw Bird type is part of the bar. Sits on the bar and I watched it relieve itself at the end of the bar on the floor. Probably good they don't serve food. We ordered two drinks and needed /wanted at least two more but after asking to see the menu there was no return visit by bartender to ask what we wanted to order or if we wanted another beverage. I gave it another 20 minutes and asked for the check as he was filling the Bro Club members gigantic beer glasses. ANOTHER 15 and I left a $20 and walked out and said thanks guy hope it's enough for the bill we asked for 30 minutes ago. Don't waste your money or your time. read more

Beacon has it all: golf bros, car salesman bros, bank bros, construction bros, hunting bros! Yes there is such a thing as hunter bros (they wear carhartt coats, something on them is camo, they carry chew on them at all times, but they're wearing a tight satin shirt by Under Armour). On top of it all, the vibes make you feel like a bunch of adults wished they were still in high school throwing annoying parties every weekend, but they own the place... so if you want to sit in a big circle, have a million conversations about your fantasy game team bs, then come on down to Beacon. Save yourself $5 bucks and just go to Schmidty's down the street and at least get the same burger for the same price served hot. Won't be back. The Beacon is a spacious, reasonably classy pub in downtown Coeur d'Alene. I'm guessing that the building used to be a bank; There may be some other reason why the mens room is a converted vault, but you know, Occam's razor and all. The bartender is kind of standoffish, and he'll serve you some kind of blush if you don't specifically ask for red, and he doesn't pour Guinness properly. He probably can, he just doesn't do it for out of towners because he's kind of passive agressive. He has to let you know where you stand somehow. I'm just speculating about this last part. read more

The Beacon is the name of an agency I used to manage. Now when I hear the word "Beacon", the color drains from my face and my first instinct is to curl up in the fetal position. Fortunately for me, *this* Beacon was nothing like *THAT* Beacon. For starters, this Beacon was quiet. And clean. And the people were, if not exactly friendly, civil. The bartender here isn't in it to make new friends, but he'll pour your Guiness (poorly) and get your wine (ask for RED zin, or you'll end up with a glass of pink wine by default) quickly and he won't give you any guff for being an out-of-towner. There are TVs above the bar playing sports broadcasts but the tvs are smaller than what you'd expect in a real sports bar and thus easy to ignore if you're not a big sports fan. If you happen to enjoy watching sweaty men run around in tight pants, you will have to strain your eyes and crane your neck in order to sneak a peak. There is beer, wine, and liquor and the place is huge. This past Saturday found us front and center at the bar, midafternoon, in the middle of a snow storm. Perhaps the snow was keeping people at home, because there were only a handful of people in the bar with us. They have a long bar menu, with burgers, veggie burgers, and plenty of yummy-sounding bar snacks. The Beacon was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back next time I'm up visiting. I'd probably stop in for a burger if nothing else was open, but it just felt too sterile and impersonal for me. read more

All I can say is "Oh My God" what a horrible experience! I am a President of a housing rental company and have supervised employees for over 25 years. The bartender this July 27th. evening was rude, lazy, indifferent and could care less about customer service. Our group included a professional bartender of over 30+ years who was enraged at the poor service, indifferent attitude, (like the world owed this guy something), of this bartender, or should I say stuck-up jerk. We ordered three different cocktails with each drink being extremely water-downed and overpriced. I could not wait till my traveling buddies finished their pool game and get the heck out of this nasty establishment. If you could give it three minus stars, I would. read more

Had I reviewed this place after my first visit in December I would have given it one star but after a repeat visit yesterday afternoon I have changed my tune... Amazing how a good bartender can change an atmosphere. Sterling was an absolute doll, he is quick witted and on top of refilling drinks. He not only makes you feel welcome but if it is slow he does his best to get the patrons interacting with other patrons which is a feat in itself. My drink were delicious and the boyfriend who is typically quiet was vocal and a bit drastic which was nice to see. Sterling was able to get my boyfriend to feel comfortable enough to be himself and not many have done so. Thank you beacon for a great time yesterday. read more

We were in town and came to the Beacon after hearing the fun music and it seemed like a vibe that was ideal for our group. Upon trying to enter, 8 of our group was allowed in but one ID was questioned. The door security took the ID without asking if he could take it to show it to someone else and took it to a guy drinking at the bar whom he claimed was the head of security. The guy looked it over and decided he didn't trust it and was not going to return the ID. We offered to all leave so we could have her update to date and real ID back so she could have it for the plane ride home. The unprofessionalism of the situation and the lack of knowledge of the security team was appalling and it is not a place any tourist should risk visiting. Having someone who is drinking being the one to inspect and make the call on an ID shows the lack of training and carelessness of the staff. I can't speak to the drinks as we never received a single one in our group, and if I was the owner, I would highly consider hiring new security staff or at least providing additional training. As a small town bartender from a non tourism area, even I have the adequate training on IDs to know the difference between states and markings each state provides on their IDs and we certainly would never allow a staff member who has had a drink to make a call like there was tonight. If you choose to go out here, beware that you will be most likely met by an incompetent staff at the door. read more

Well I will tell you upfront I am good friends with the owner of this pub and since he was in the Navy and could kick my ass, I better write a great review of this!! LOL..All kidding aside, I really enjoy this place to get my night started when planning a looooonngg night of partying in downtown Coeur D'Alene. I absolutely love the bartenders here. Super people and know what you want before you sit down. The bar is a square bar set in the middle of the building with TV's located above the bartenders on each side of bar. There is a cool raised seating area to the back of the bar that lets you look out over the bar and crowd. They have one pool table here and one dart board. It can get very loud in here with the fun crowd! It also gets packed with the "hip and beautiful" crowd around 10pm on the weekends. They have a full liquor license here, so nothing is off the menu. They have several draft beer choices, and decent pitcher prices. Its great here in summer as you can sit outside along Sherman and people watch or in my case bikini watch!! Really really good pizzas!! The mens restroom is in an old bank vault!! Love the owner, love the location, love the bartenders, and now they better love me! I love it when I going to a bar there's two people in the bar and it takes five minutes to place an order. The bartenders writing a text. With the two people in the bar one drink is three quarters gone the other ones completely gone and it takes another 5 minutes for the bartender to come back and fill my beer thanks but no thanks.
