So I came here on a Thursday around 2 o'clock in the afternoon with my girlfriend and I have to say that my expectations for bears and was not met. I got the fried chicken macaroni and cheese dumplings and cornbread. The dumplings were the best part the corn bread was really dry and was not a little sweet like I like it but the chicken I got was dark meat and it was so dry. I have never eaten dark meat chicken that drive. The macaroni and cheese was okay I can make better at home. I have eaten soul food in so many different places and this place fail to impress me. Home cooking is always a toss up since no two grandmas cook alike. However, Bear's Den always does the trick when I'm missing my grandma's soul food. My fave dishes is the baked chicken& dressing (so moist) with the decadent mac& cheese and corn fritters. The veggies are surprisingly tasty and not too salty- I like the cabbage and green beans. The food was amazing! Each day they have different food. We came here on a Friday. I got the beef stroganoff with cabbage and green beans. The stroganoff was creamy and the flavor was really good! Didn't need salt for anything! My husband had the chicken parm with Mac and cheese and the cheese grits! It was so good! The sweet tea is perfect and the lemonade was amazing! Their banana pudding was delish! If it wasn't so far away from where we live I'd go back often! The staff is very courteous and friendly! This place is absolutely amazing. The food is all time comfort food. We arrived and the buffet had just closed so we got take out and they let us sit in the dining area to eat. Good food that will fill you. On a college tour to Mercer University with our daughter we asked a local resident their recommendation for great soul food. The Bears Den was highly recommended. The food was delicious, particularly the chicken tenders, corn fritters, fried shrimp, cabbage, dressing and yummy lemonade. Surprisingly the fish was below sub par, all batter and no fish. The potato salad, banana pudding and mac and cheese were also below our expectations. The place is crowded but the line moves quickly and the staff is nice.
