So on our way back from visiting friends at Lake Lanier, I as the passenger + navigator said..hmmm...we need a break but let's find soul food. I said. Who goes thru Macon and dont eat good. Not me. So, I hit Yelp. Then I asked AI. Claude. Claude gave me a list and there was the H! So we drove 20 minutes out the way. Best detour ever! Go early. Buy an extra meal for home. I gladly dropped my cash. ..salmon cakes made me cry....everything was off the chain. Well, I had my good juju on, I sat on a bench with a 30 year veteran of this place. She talked my ear off, what a delight. So the place is decked out in Allman brothers memorbilia. It was their early haunt as they rose to fame. Well the founder, older blk lady is dead. Her family smartly sold out to corporate. But it was worth it. They maintained all thats good. Even the tiny old bathrooms. Need an update for sure. But. .Definitely worth the visit. Parking was horrible! So go early! Now, you need to go by Macon cemetery. See Allman burial, civil war places. I want to explore Macon more now! Well, as we drove home, around Jacksonville, I reached in the back seat. No fork. Just a smile. Yes i fed my driver. Salmon cakes hit on all cylinders. Sadly the two meat plate left off my meat, turkey. But forgiven. I should have checked my to go order. Never trust. Always verify. Broke my own rules! Stop by. We visited again!!! And it's still just as memorable as the first time. We arrived on Sunday around noon and had 9 people. Our wait was minimal and once seated the magic happened! Our server was attentive and prompt! The food was oh so good! Loooooved the "white" gravy with biscuits. Made me feel like I was sitting at my Maw Maws table. So damn good! Truly ashamed to say we've lived in Macon 3 years and this was our first time eating at H & H. My pregnancy cravings put me on the hunt for biscuits and gravy and I am soooo glad that hunt lead me here. WOW. This is GOOD food & great people! A nice corner restaurant with a at home feel, truly a gem. Thankfully the day we went wasn't busy so we took our time going over the menu and asking for recommendations. Having an uncle Red Dog myself, my husband knew immediately what meal he will be ordering. I on the other hand was torn after I saw they had salmon patties. So this is a down home diner. We arrived @10am on a Sunday and there were no open tables. The place was packed with a broad mix of folks. Turnover was fast though. Waitress arrived quickly as did the coffee. We were lucky on timing bc when we left there were people qued up outside. Good strong coffee. Offer coffee to go if you want it. Great service and friendly. They have parking lot next to them on corner for about 12 cars. We had the brisket hash and Bisquits and gravy with an egg added. Both were delicious. Light, fluffy Bisquits. Good gravy and plenty of it. Eggs properly cooked. The brisket hash - a fee pieces over cooked, but generally well prepared. Good cook on potatoes, onions and peppers. Worth the Early Wake-Up Call If you're in Macon, H and H is a must-visit for breakfast. I ordered the H and H Standard Breakfast and was impressed with the execution - eggs cooked exactly right and the bacon was perfectly crispy. The hashbrown casserole was decent, though I personally prefer mine with a bit more color on it. Don't skip the cinnamon roll, but fair warning: it's seriously sweet. Split it with someone unless you have a serious sweet tooth. What really stood out was the service. The staff went above and beyond and made the whole experience memorable. My family and I tried this restaurant on our trip back to Florida. This is a good place for Soul Food cuisine. The menu consists of traditional Sunday dinner at "Big Momma's" house; down to the deviled eggs. Our food order came out fast and hot. The beef tips were very tender and favorable. The only regret is that you only get one piece of fried catfish, it's too good for just one piece. The restaurant walls are a history lesson of music greats such Johnny Taylor, Presley Sledge and famous past guest such as Oprah Winfrey. This restaurant seems to be community staple as there were many take out orders. We want to thank Mr. Terrance, Manager for his hospitality and sending us off with hot peach cobbler. My husband had country fried steak that you could cut with a fork, mashed potatoes and green beans. This mail was served with cornbread butter and sweet tea. And I couldn't leave without a piece of Bread pudding. If you are traveling on the highway don't eat at a chain restaurant right of the exit. Make the 5 minute drive to a real taste of the south! We knew we must try the H&H Restaurant after viewing the Big House (the Allman Brother's Museum). We arrived 10-15 minutes before closing time, but our waitress let us know that it was no problem. We got the meat and 3 so we could try the fried chicken, country steak and gravy and all six veggie options. We're smart that way!! Everything was hot and the meats were delicious. The biscuits were not from scratch but the vegetables were cooked with care and were tasty. I was very happy to see the restaurant has kept it's nostalgic charm and fantastic memories.
