I visited the salon for the first time a couple of days ago and met with Roman, who cuts my fiance's hair and does a fantastic job. My hair has been thinning terribly for the past few years and Roman really took the extra time, patience and care to see what the "root" of the problem was. He spent a lot of time precision cutting my very thin and fine hair and came up with a plan to get my hair growing again. Roman made me feel confident and hopeful that I might actually be able to have a cute haircut again. I've already scheduled my next appointment and I'm excited to see the progress. Was hoping to schedule a haircut here but when I called to ask about the salon's COVID safety policies, the manager I spoke to was very rude and said "I don't know how you want me to answer these questions." Very simple questions about masks and their cleaning protocols. The call was really cold and didn't reassure me at all. If you're concerned about this, I would avoid this salon. Edit: I got a message saying the manager responded to my review and they were very defensive and combative about it. They are also making false statements about my call. I was never informed about the cleaning protocols and when asked if the staff was vaccinated, the manager said "I don't know how you want me to answer these questions." To clarify, medical records were never asked for. To claim that I asked for records shows how defensive they are when asked about safety procedures. Reading other reviews, it seems that management is a big issue at the salon. read more

I came here from the city because my current salon hasn't been the same in the last 2-3mo & this one is one of a few that use the colour I prefer. Called to make an appt & spoke with a guy - how much is root touch up? $95. Perfect. Same as what I pay in the city. Brought along my colour formula, ok, no problem. Showed the girl how I normally style it after. Oh blow drying is extra. What to you mean extra? Blow dry is only part of the coat with a haircut not colour service. Um, ok fine no one told me when I made the appointment. It's also 55F today so why would I leave with a wet head? Shampoo out the colour, end up with a face of water because somehow the shampoo girl sprayed me. Do you need a new robe? Yes because I don't feel like finishing in this wet one. And thanks as my mascara is now smeared all over my face and you gave me a towel with my hair colour on it to blot my face. So, in the end, I was guessing the "extra" BS blow dry charge would be $20-30... nope! $70 and didn't even attempt to do it from how I showed you & you parted it completely the opposite of what I told you. 3 stars because I gave you my colour formula so that wasn't difficult. -2 for the BS drying charge I wasn't told about and getting a face of water when washing my hair and not even apologetic about either. read more

I was not treated like an "Awesome Guest" at my recent hair color appointment at Salon Topaz, Dobbs Ferry. Jenny, my colorist, did an amazing job with my color. An entry level employee was responsible for: rinsing my hair and swiping the dye from my eyebrows. She did such a poor job. There was water halfway down the back of my shirt. My eyebrows looked like I had coffee grounds on them - the dye was not adequately removed. My left ear was covered in dye! I had to remove the excess dye when I returned home! I was not scheduled for a haircut, but asked if someone could trim my bangs. The woman who usually cuts my hair was on her phone during my entire visit. She had no customers the 2+ hours I was there. Previously, she had told me I could drop in anytime to have my bangs trimmed. Jenny said that she "would try to find someone" to trim my bangs; she didn't. The hair color cost $207, plus a $35 tip ($242.) I combed and blow dried my hair. These services are not included when only a color is booked. I'm returning to a salon in the city. read more

My treatment and haircut with Liz were fantastic, as always! The deeply soothing scalp treatment (to help with the itchiness) and massage relaxed me as nothing else can, and then Liz gave me another great haircut. She understands my hair's texture and the funny ways it grows in some spots, and the cut and styling take all of that into account. I also want to praise Salon Topaz for always using and only selling high quality, nontoxic hair products. They have been a health-conscious and eco-friendly salon for ages, well before such products and practices became more mainstream. Monica is the first stylist who truly understands my curly, wavy hair. Other stylists have tried to blow it out straight or have given me cuts that just don't work given my hair's natural inclination. Monica gave me a cut that I don't need to blow dry and then showed me exactly how to use products to get it to hold its shape without getting frizzy. I can now style my own hair in five minutes or less, which is a miracle, and it looks healthy and shiny, too. read more

When you have an appointment, you never have to wait. The products they use are high quality, which is a blessing and a curse because you will always want to purchase something.
